The morning had absolutely dragged. Zoe hadn't seen Nick all day and in a way, she was glad. She was certainly not in the mood to be putting on a happy act for him. She had felt awful all morning and the nausea and headache was becoming considerably worse as the day went on. She had never had to rush out of resus in the middle of treating a patient as fast as she had this morning; the first sight of the open wound made her gag. She didn't even crave her usual coffee or cigarette to relax her and that's when it hit her. It was a shot in the dark, but there was definitely no harm in finding out.

Pulling down the toilet seat, Zoe took a seat; anxiously sitting and waiting as she picked up the white stick that lay before her, flipping it over so that she could see those long awaited results. And there it was, two little pink lines; positive.

A tear began to fall down Zoe's face. She wasn't entirely sure why she was crying, her emotions were completely blank. This was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of her life; but it wasn't. A part of her would love a second child, a little brother or sister for Hollie to play with, but another part of her wished that she wasn't pregnant at all. This was all completely the wrong timing. Their relationship was only beginning to get back on tracks; having a baby would change all of that considerably.

6 weeks the test read. That meant there was a split 50/50 chance of the baby being both Nick or Max's. There was no way that she could ever tell Max there was a possibility he was the father of her child; it would break her and Nick and there was no way that she could risk loosing him again. She could not get rid of this baby though; the thought had momentarily passed through her mind, but that was just out of the question. She would love this baby no matter who the father was. This baby was a miracle; her miracle. It took many attempts of fertility treatment to get Hollie and now that she had managed to get pregnant naturally, she wasn't ecstatic like she should have been and she couldn't understand why.

She quickly wiped away her tears as her pager began to go off and rushed out of the toilets back downstairs to resus.

"Zoe, are you alright?" Nick frowned, obvious to him that she had been crying, as she quickly rushed past him.

"Yes I'm fine" She snapped, not wanting to talk to him right now as she raced back into resus.

She couldn't get it off her mind. The question kept rolling around whether or not the baby was Nick's or not. She hoped it would be. Her children at least deserved the same father, even if he wasn't always the greatest dad in the world. Finishing treating her patient, she quickly hurried out of resus and straight to the toilets; she needed time alone to think.

"Everything alright Zoe?" Tess asked as she walked into the toilets, resting against the locked door that Zoe occupied. She knew Zoe as well as anyone and knew full well that she had not been her usual self today. The tears welling up in her eyes as she left resus did not gone unnoticed by Tess. Zoe had been the one who supported Tess during her past difficult months and now she was going to do the same.

Zoe flicked the lock open, standing up and opening the door slightly to see Tess standing outside. She took in a deep breath; knowing that she had to speak to somebody "I'm pregnant Tess" She announced; no emotion what so ever.

"Congratulations, that's great news isn't it?" She questioned, seeing the unhappy look upon Zoe's face. She knew full well that she and Nick had recently started seeing each other again, in fact, most of the ED knew, the sneaking around and small remarks thrown around were obvious to anyone who knew them.

She shook her head slightly "I don't know who the father is" She admitted, a tear beginning to form in her eyes. She couldn't believe how stupid she had been, getting pregnant with no certainty of who the baby's father was.

Tess frowned in confusion "Is it not Nick's?" She questioned.

"I don't know" Zoe admitted, turning to look at Tess "The test said I was about 6 weeks, which means it could be Nick's or Max's"

"But I thought you broke up with Max way before you slept with Nick?"

"No" She shook her head, ashamed with herself at her recent decisions "I cheated on Max before we split up" She admitted.

"Oh Zoe" Tess sighed, placing a hand on her back and rubbing it in a soothing motion "Have you spoke to Nick?" She asked.

Zoe shook her head "No" She mumbled. There was no way she could face telling Nick. If he knew it wasn't his, she knew he wouldn't stick around. One sign of commitment and Nick Jordan ran a mile. She couldn't face loosing him again, not now she finally had the man she loved back.

"Well I really think you should speak to him" Tess encouraged her.

"I don't think he'll want this baby if it's not his" She sighed "I can't loose him Tess, not again" She sobbed as Tess pulled her into a hug.

"Nick loves you Zoe, he'll be over the moon no matter what" Tess tried to console her as she ran a comforting hand across her back "Go and speak to him, I'll make an excuse for you"

Zoe nodded. Tess was right, she couldn't hide away from it. Nick needed to know.

Thanks for the lovely reviews for this! Yes, you all guessed right; she's pregnant. I thought it'd add a bit more interest to this story so here it is! So, I'm not really sure if Nick or Max should actually be the father though so please leave your opinions on which way you would like to see this go :) xx
