Wanda POV
When the lift doors opened, I immediately regretted my choice to where a thin, yellow dress. It was pouring down with rain. How had it gone from bright and sunny to stormy and gloomy in the space of an hour? Nevertheless, I hurried over to the back entrance of the Helicarrier and ran up the sloped door with my suitcase trailing behind me. Mistake.
I heard my shoes squeak against the metal as I slipped. Squealing, I put out my red energy shield to protect me, landing with a thwump against it. It didn't hurt that much, but it wasn't exactly what i wanted with a hangover.
"Wanda, you hurt?" I heard Nat shout as she hurried over to me. Cute.
I nodded my head as I pushed myself to stand up. "Only my pride," I answered, brushing my dress. I went to pick my suitcase back up, but Nat got it for me. We smiled at each other and made our way up the ramp.
"We really need to work on your balance, Maximoff," he jested, spinning around in the pilot's seat to face me. My cheeks flushed at the fact that he saw me fall on my face. So embarrassing. His eyes looked down at my dress and then back up to my face. He grinned and turned back around, flipping a few switches on the control panel.
"Ignore that asshole. Come on, I'll show you where to put your bags." Natasha guided me through the corridor to my bedroom. The helicarrier we were flying on was small, only built for carrying a team of four maximum, which meant it had a very simple layout.
"It'll take at least half a day so you'll probably need some sleep, especially with that hangover," Natasha said as I dumped my suitcase on the floor. At the mention of my hangover, I felt the tiredness grow. I put my fingers against the dress and sighed at the wet, cold feeling. Looking in the mirror, I noticed you could see my bra through the material.
"For fucks sake," I groaned, unbuttoning the dress and pulling it over my head. I stared at Natasha as she laughed at me.
"Attention all passengers, we will now be departing. Please come back to the cockpit and fasten your seatbelts, because I'm bored. Thank you."
I rolled my eyes at James' announcement, quickly pulling up my joggers. I grabbed a tanktop from the pile of close in my suitcase.
"Are you coming with us?" I asked Nat as she lounged on my bed, waiting for me to get dressed. I thought it was just going to be me and James.
"I'm getting dropped off in England. Bad girl to stop," she answered. I smacked them shut, stopping my sigh of relief. "You worried I'm going to ruin your romantic weekend away?" she asked, smirking at me.
I pushed her playfully. The plane started to pull away from the ground. "Shut up, Nat."
"What? It was just a question," she said innocently. We walked out the door as I pulled my hair from where it was tied. She grabbed my arm as I was about to put my hair up again. Her expression went stern, which was neer a good sign. "Seriously, what are you going to do about you and him?"
I groaned, knowing that Clint would just tell her anyway. "I'm leaving it. Our relationship is...different than most. We work together and I'm fixing his brain." The more I thought about it, the more I was convinced it was a bad idea.
Natasha nodded. "You're letting things run their course." I was glad she understood and wasn't pushing anything.
"Exactly," I replied, continuing down the corridor. I scraped my hair up with my hands and styled my hair into a messy bun. I felt like I needed a nap, but wanted to wait until later so that my sleep pattern wasn't messed up.
We rejoined James in the cockpit. Natasha sat on my lap as the three of us chatted.
"What do you mean 'what happens when I die'?" Nat asked. We somehow got onto talking about death, not an uncommon topic when around Natasha.
"I mean, can I get all your stuff?" James asked with a twinkle in his eye.
"Wait, I want your outfits!" I said, poking her side. She wriggled in my lap and I smiled, realising she was ticklish.
"Well none of you are getting my knifes, that's for certain," she said, rousing a blade from somewhere. I didn't even want to know. God knew how she hid those things. She smiled at it. "They're being burried with me," she added, slipping the blade back to where it came from - somewhere under her top? "And you'll have to kill me first?"
"You're 5"3! How are you going to defend yourself?" James teased, almost getting ready to run away from her.
Nat scowled. "Say goodbye to your kneecaps, asshole!" she growled, pushing herself off of my lap and running after James who was already half way down the corridor.
I chuckled as I watched them disappear into another part of the ship, Natasha's knives reappearing in her hands. Stretching, I leant back against the chair.
I looked out at the view, we were somewhere over the sea now. The world was so beautiful. It was a shame everyone was letting it be destroyed. I felt my body sink further into the co-pilot chair as my eyes fluttered close. I'd just rest them for a moment.
James POV
"Come on Natalia," I taunted. She took two swipes above my head with her knife, which I quickly had to swerve to avoid. She would never actually harm me...too badly.
I chuckled, sprinting further down the hall. As I was about to turn down a corridor to the right, a blade whipped past my face, embedding itself into the metal next to me. She was a few metres away from me, another knife poised in her hand.
"What do you want me to say, that I'm sorry?" I smirked, watching her slowly slither forward.
BAM! Another knife on the other side of me, piercing the wall. "Who's the best?" she asked, twirling another blade through her fingers. That evil look in her eye would never fade. She would never change.
"I'm sorry, what?" I asked, feigning to be hard of hearing as I put my hand up to my ear. I quickly jumped upwards, spreading my legs, as she threw her last blade. I looked at its place in the wall, right where my pinned testicles would be if I hadn't jumped.
"You are the best," I admitted, holding my hands up. I turned around to find her slipping the knife she had back into her hidden arm compartment. Apparently she hadn't thrown her last knife. She raised her hand and it took me a second to realise what she was doing. I immediately dropped to the floor, watching the blades come back to her hand, similar to the way Steve's shield returned to his arm when he commanded it to. Stark's technology was seriously advanced.
She smirked and walked away, leaving me lying there on the floor. I sighed and rolled back, using my arms and back to jump up to my feet. I quickly followed her back down the corridor.
When we arrived back at the cockpit, Natasha was leaning over the passenger seat.
"What are you-"
"Sshhhh" she said, scowling at me. She stepped back revealing a sleeping Wanda slumped against the chair. She was incredibly peaceful with her eyes shut, her hair tied up in its messy bun.
"Should we leave her sleeping?" I whispered quietly as the two of us watched her.
Natalia nodded. "She'll need the rest."
Wanda stirred in her sleep every now and again, but was mostly quiet. Natalia and I were playing rummy in the centre of the helicarrier with nothing better to do. She knew her mission cover back to front.
"How long are you going to be away for?" I asked, picking up a card.
"Hopefully the same amount of time you're in Wakanda so you can give me a ride home," she answered with a wink.
"If you're longer, we can stay in Wakanda for longer until you're done." She picked up a card and considered putting it back down.
She shook her head and smiled. "Should be plenty of enough time for me to get my mission done."
"And what is that mission?" I asked, picking up a card. Ace. Fucks sake. I moved my cards around a little and put the card back down.
She smirked at me, picking up the ace. "That's classified," she replied, placing three aces down in front of her. Dammit. I was so far away from three of a kind. She smirked and put a card down on the pile. "There's a woman in France, Sophie De Beaure. She's been smuggling illegal drugs as well as HYDRA weapons."
My brow furrowed. "I thought HYDRA were dead."
"Supposedly yes, but that doesn't mean all their weapons are. After Stark stepped away from manufacturing his weapons, they still circulated for months, years after. Sophie is smart, but not smart enough. She's been leaving traces of where she's been everywhere."
"How come?" I asked. Surely someone carrying HYDRA weapons would want to be careful about it.
"Hill and I believe she's been taking the drugs she's smuggling. There's photos of her looking more than a little bit out of it. No one is questioning her because she has the weapons to kill them easily." Natalia almost looked annoyed. She never liked an easy chase.
"So, what's the plan of action?" I asked, smirking as I put down a set of four cards.
"Well," She glared at me, but answered. "I plan to meet an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D agent over there, plant an untraceable camera in De Beaure's room and record the evidence to prove her guilty."
I raised a brow. "The legal way?"
She rolled her eyes. "I know, isn't it boring." I chuckled and leaned back in my seat as she picked up a card. "Do you know what's not boring?"
"What?" I asked.
She placed the remaining cards she had on the table with a smirk. "Winning."
Wanda POV
I woke up to the sound of people laughing and a darker sky than I'd last seen. I scrunched my eyes together and yawned, stretching my arms above my head and clicking my back. "Evening sleepy head," a soft voice called from behind me.
I smiled, watching James and Nat walk over to me. "How long have I been out for?" I asked, resting my chin on the seat's back.
"Maybe three or four hours?" My eyebrows shot up. That long? Wow. I must've been tired. My comfortable clothes probably helped too. I pulled my sleeves and hid my hands in them.
"Sorry," I apologised, getting up from my seat. I grabbed a drink from the side of the shop, feeling very thirsty.
"We thought it would be better to leave you sleeping," Nat explained, shuffling a stack of cards in her hands.
"Thanks, I think I needed it." Natasha sat in the cockpit as I reclaimed my co-pilot's seat. I still felt tired, but tried to stay awake.
Natasha opened the link to her communications device. "Hill, report. Flight is going well, no problems so far. Will radio in again in a few hours."
"Roger that," she replied from base.
After five minutes of chatting in the cockpit, I could already feel my eyelids begin to close. "Wanda?" I moaned and lifted my head. Natasha smiled. "Go to bed."
I didn't argue. I pushed my body out of the chair to make my way back. "Goodnight," I sighed, dragging myself down the corridor to my bedroom. I immediately flopped on my bed and groaned, pushing away the covers to slip inside. Sweet bliss.
When I woke, it was morning wherever we were. Sunlight streamed through the small, thick window near the door. "Good morning, Wanda."
I smiled. "Good morning, JARVIS." I climbed out of bed and stretched, hearing a bone in my back click. I cringed a little.
"Apologies Wanda, but I thought you would be interested to know that we are arriving in France in five minutes." I nodded, slipping on a pair of jeans and a crop top. Would I be too hot in jeans? I would ask James when I see him.
I brushed my hair, which unfortunately made it a little frizzy like usual. I put it up into a high ponytail and made my way out to the cockpit as the helicarrier decended.
"Oh god," I muttered as stumbled into a wall, tripped by the flying pattern of the helicarrier. I rushed to the cockpit and tripped into one of the seats, strapping myself into the co-pilot spot.
"Mornin'" James greeted, gruffly. I smiled at the slightly scruffy hair he had. Clearly, he'd just woken up too. He glanced at me and smiled back. I felt a shiver roll over m, wanting to reach out and ruffle his, now-short, locks. I liked the haircut I gave him.
"Well, this is my stop." Natasha emerged from behind us wearing a blue pantsuit and a black handbag. Her hair was black, which I hated. It really didn't suit her, but easily went with the look.
She was carrying a black suitcase behind her. She wore square glasses and a slim, silver necklace. "Business woman chic?"
"Dress-up is fun sometimes," she said, looking down at her clothes. The plane landed and Natasha peered outside. It was cloudy outside. Natasha sneered. "How disappointing. You get sunshine, I get misery."
"I'm sure it'll perken up," I replied, optimistically. I didn't really care about the weather. I just hoped that she stayed safe. I knew that she would though.
"I've checked the weather. It doesn't. Rain and more rain for me," she answered with sarcasm. She shrugged and made her way to the helicarrier exit that was slowly lowering. "I'll contact you when I'm finished. Like I said, shouldn't take too long." Nat winked at me.
"You're the best," James told her with a nod and a smile.
"You know it," she replied with a smirk. "Have a safe flight." We watched her walk away, suitcase trailing behind her. She looked so professional in her blue suit and her glasses.
"How long until we arrive in Wakanda?" I asked some time later, gazing at the horizon.
"An hour or two," he answered, pressing some buttons on the screen. "T'Challa and I will show you around once we get there," James replied.
I grinned and sat back in my seat. Travelling to Wakanda didn't take long, especially with James for company. He told me about everything he'd experienced in Wakanda from making his own food each morning to swimming in their lakes. It sounded incredible.
I began to worry when he told someone over the comms in Wakanda that we were beginning our descent...into a bunch of trees. "Uh...James, I don't want to worry you."
I glanced over at him. He simply smirked. I looked at him questionably. "James..." I warned when we began to fly into the trees. "JAMES!" I pushed myself right against the back of my seat as the trees gliched. I frowned. Trees don't gltch.
Within a second, the entire view changed. There were tall buildings and drones flying, large lakes and waterfalls. It was surreal.
"Blimey. Never known a dame with such big lungs," James quipped. I was too distracted by the view to think of a reply.
The place was stunning, so modern. It took my breath away. At the entranceway stood a tall, strong panther carved from stone, almost as if it were a protector of the land. We flew lower, flying past the different buildings, beautiful buildings. It was its own hidden city. The building styles were modern but with an cultural African twist. It was beautiful. "Wanda Maximoff, welcome to Wakanda."
I grinned, barely containing my excitement. "Get your ass down here. It's been too long, white boy."
"Shut up, Shuri, we're coming. And that's white wolf I think you'll find," James said back over the comms. My excitement felt more contained at the thought of Shuri. Maybe I was overthinking the situation; she could've just been a friend. I stopped my thoughts. I was here to enjoy Wakanda, not stress about my relationship with James.
I held myself tightly in the chair as we landed, but James managed to park the plane more than smoothly. He gave me a cheeky grin as we unclipped ourselves from our seats. "Meet me back here," he told me, before running off to his room. I'd never seen him so excited before. It was adorable.
I smiled at the thought all the way to my room, which I was also running to. I couldn't wait to go and explore. We rejoined at the cockpit and lowered the bay door. As we walked down the ramp, I could almost feel the heat rush over my body. I nearly shivered at the change in temperature.
I glanced at James as he practically bounded down the ramp ahead of me. He was practically ecstatic. I loved the way his dimples showed when he really smiled. He was adorable. I looked up at the huge, modern buildings and I almost felt my body shrink a little. Small planes flew around the city, smoothly curving around the buildings.
As we walked forward, we were greeted by two lines of women standing tall. They had separated for the King who was walking towards us accompanied by two females. One of them was quite young, perhaps 16. The other was older, dressed in the same clothes as the other warrior-looking women. T'Challa was wearing a black suit, a tribal necklace around his neck that looked like a row of large teeth.
What was I meant to say? I didn't want to disrespect him. I panicked. "Your highness, it's an honour," I greeted, bowing my head forward. I didn't think that was too bad.
I lifted my head. "The honour is all mine, Miss Maximoff," he replied with a soft smile. I politely smiled back at him as he turned to James. "Good to see you, as always." I was surprised to see James and T'Challa hug, but he seemed quite comfortable.
"I'm glad to be back. Missed it all," James replied with a grin, looking around at the city. I guess it would be a difficult place to forget.
"Even me?" the young girl asked. Who was this woman?
"Shut up, you know I didn't miss you one bit," he teased before giving her hug top. When he let go of the girl, he turned to the last woman and simply gave a nod to her. She obviously wasn't the hugging type.
"Wanda, this is Okoye. She is leader of our female special forces, the Dora Milaje." I smiled at the woman and nodded. She nodded her head back. The women had some resemblance to Natasha, the quiet way she regarded herself. "And this is my sister, Shuri."
My eyebrows rose at the mention of her name. That...was Shuri. Because of this whole James dilemma, I imagined her ten years older. I almost laughed at myself for being so stupid. "It's lovely to meet you, Wanda. I've heard a lot about you," she said, eyes glancing over to James who's cheeks reddened ever so slightly.
"Well, I'm very excited to learn about you and your beautiful country." Shuri nodded and smiled. What a sweet girl.
"Let's go inside. I'll give you a tour." T'Challa suggested. He certainly gave me a tour. The interior design was insane. I even got to see his thrown. I joked to James about sitting on it, but he said that I would probably get shot for doing so. Surely T'Challa wasn't that mean...surely.
We came to the Dora Milaje training room where some of them were sparring. "Are you well rested from your trip?" Okoye asked from beside me. I nodded and smiled. I was about to say thank you when she spoke again. "Good." She hit her staff on the ground and suddenly five members of her team were slowly walking towards me.
James and T'Challa stepped away from me and I glared at them. James just smirked and shrugged at me. Asshole. I turned back to the situation at hand - being surrounded by badass female warriors who could kill me in a second. Fuck.
She said a command in her language and they dropped a little lower, as if they were preparing to attack. I stayed calm and felt the energy flow through my fingers. I let my eyes flash red to Okoye. She smirked, stepping back from the circle of women.
"Rhuba!" she shouted and one of the women charged towards me. I was going to try and beat them without powers as far as I could. I ducked under the woman's spear and grabbed it. Another warrior charged, but I jumped, using the spear as leverage to kick her body with my legs. Unfortunately, the first woman lowered her staff, making me fall to the floor.
I quickly regained my stance and prepared for the next attack. The next woman went to hit me and I attempted to duck, but she was too fast. I was thrown a few metres, but managed to roll into a side lunge. I knew they weren't fighting me to their full potential.
They all charged towards me. "Ah, fuck." I ran for the wall, which made James chuckle. Little did he know I had a plan. Sort of. I sprinted to the wall, pushed myself up and ran up the wall to flip over. I landed next to one of the warriors who still had her staff next to her, but not tightly.
I didn't have time to breathe, using my acceleration to spring up and wrap my legs around her neck. I swung round, the momentum causing her to fall. I quickly grabbed her staff mid-turn and held it against her neck. I looked up at the other warriors and smiled, hoping that they understood I wouldn't kill one of their team. They didn't seem to make any moves. We all knew Okoye just wanted to see me take one of them down. I could feel James' eyes on my as I stood up.
I offered my hand to the woman on the floor. She rose up, nodding at the staff I still had. She smiled as I handed it back. I walked back to Okoye and the others. "Mathig!" She shouted. I turned around to find five spears about to be thrown at me.
I knew what she wanted to see. As the staffs left the warriors' hands, I used my powers to stop them in their paths immediately. They had barely skimmed the air.
"Very impressive, Miss Maximoff," she complimented, throwing her staff from one hand to the other. "The Dora Mijale will enjoy your company over these next few days."
I nodded and smiled. Shuri winked at me as we continued our tour. James joined me again. "You're getting really good at that thigh wrap."
I shrugged. "What can I say? I had a good teacher." He laughed and nudged me with his arm.
A few minutes later, we'd arrived in a corridor. "Will you be needing two rooms?" T'Challa asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Uh...of course," I answered, sounding slightly unsure of myself. I didn't fail to notice T'Challa lip smirk slightly, but he played it off by licking his lips and smiling. Shuri smirked also, looking as if she were holding back a laugh. I could almost feel the heat radiate from James' cheeks. Had he suggested something about the two of us? Perhaps it was just because I was working on getting his memories back? I could've sworn I saw James glare at the pair.
"Two rooms have been prepared. However, if you would prefer, you can sleep in your previous accommodation," T'Challa said to James. "The hut was readied for your return," he added. James bowed his head and nodded.
"I may spend a night there. I will definitely visit," James replied. I wanted to see this 'hut' they spoke of.
"I'll leave you to unpack," he replied, leaving us to it.
When I entered my room, I gasped. It was beautiful, mostly decorated with wood despite the building's appearance. I grinned as my hand glided over the silk sheets and wooden posts that were carved using the panther as inspiration. I could see a balcony outside overlooking the entire country. I jumped onto the bed (such a soft mattress) and looked up at the ceiling. This would be an exciting couple of days.
I know, I know. It's nearly been a month, but I have great things in store for the next few chapters! Just you wait and see. Sorry if it's a tad short though :(
Reviews really spur me on, so I might get a chapter out in the next week or two if you leave me one ;) Especially seeing as I am now on holiday.
Mum's gotten worse and I've had a lot of Uni stuff on. However, I've just arrived in Melbourne, Australia! How exciting! The city looks very colourful and I can't wait to explore!
Love you always,
