When JJ got back, she handed the towel to Kate.
"Alright, take your time, I'll be in the kitchen making something for us to eat, alright?" JJ asked.
Kate nodded.
"Alright, tell me if you need anything." JJ said.
Kate nodded again and headed to where JJ told her the bathroom was.
As soon as JJ heard the door to the bathroom close, she headed to the kitchen and started preparing some pasta.
She kept thinking of Emily.
She kept thinking that if only she had been faster to pull the trigger, then her wife wouldn't be lying in the hospital still unconscious.
She was snapped out of her thoughts, when she heard foot steps behind her.
JJ turned around to see Kate standing there, her hair wet from the shower.
JJ smiled. "Hey, all done?"
Kate smiled and nodded.
"Alright, dinner's almost ready." JJ said as she finished setting the table.
JJ checked the food and saw that it was ready.
She took it out of the oven and poured a little bit on to each plate.
Kate smiled and thanked her before they sat down and began eating.
"Are you sure you're okay with me staying here?" Kate asked as they ate.
JJ looked at her and sighed.
Kate took the sigh the wrong way and gulped.
"I'm sorry." She said, her voice almost filled with fear.
"Hey, I didn't sigh because I'm mad. I just don't know how to make you understand that I want you to stay here." JJ said.
JJ saw Kate visibly relax.
"I just don't want you to feel obligated to do this just because I'm your wife's daughter." Kate said, chancing a glance at JJ before looking at her food again.
"Kate, I'm not doing this just because you're my wife's daughter. Yes, that is part of why I'm doing this, but I am also doing this because I connected with you from the moment I met you. And you have no idea how I feel to know that you trusted me enough to tell me about your parents." JJ assured.
Kate looked at her, this time not averting her eyes.
"I don't know why I trusted you like that, I just knew that I could trust you. I don't trust people that easily, so I don't know why, but you are different." Kate said.
"And you can talk to me, whenever you want." JJ said, sincerely.
Kate smiled a little.
They continued eating before Kate spoke up again.
"JJ?" She asked.
"Yeah?" JJ asked as she looked at Kate.
"Thank you." Kate said.
"What for?" JJ asked.
"For everything." Kate said.
"You don't have to thank me." JJ said.
"Yes I do. Nobody has ever been like that to me. You make me feel safe." Kate said.
Her words hit JJ straight in the heart.
JJ just smiled, trying to make her voice not crack.
"I'm glad I do, honey." JJ said.
