She laid in the dark, her head resting comfortably against his chest. His breathing was even, his body warm against her own. Limbs tangled together, keeping them locked together. She didn't want morning to come. Time could stop and she would be content laying in her lovers arms.
"Where is your head at Gilmore?" Paris snapped. Only getting the lost in La la land look. "Forget it. Are you sure you're not pregnant?" The daze Rory had been in since waking up, dispersed rather quickly. They were best friends, they talked about things. They're period's had always been on the same schedule, now was no different. When Paris got her's and needed a tampon, Rory didn't have one she could use. Because it was the safer bet to ask a friend then go all the way across the campus.
"I don't know," Rory whispered, horrified at the thought. Counting back in her head it had been two months since she slept with Jess. She had put it down to stress from starting Yale. The idea of being pregnant never crossed her mind.
"When's your last class?" Paris offered. She would suck it up. She wouldn't do this for just anyone.
"As touching as it is, Paris, I need my Mom." She wasn't afraid to admit that she was scared and in desperate need of her mother.
"I slept with Jess, twice, in California," she whispered, not wanting her mom to judge her. Jess still held her heart in his hands.
"I can't judge you on that, sweets. We all make mistakes."
"Sleeping with Jess wasn't a mistake," Rory seethed, jumping from her spot on the couch. This was why, she waited until Luke was at work. It had hurt walking away from him. This time unlike before, they had kept in contact so far. Even if it had been two Weeks.
"It shouldn't have happened," Lorelai reasoned. Rory shook her head, feeling her eyes start to well up.
"It did happen and I wanted it to happen," Rory yelled storming out to her car.
"It wasn't a mistake," she whispered, sitting in the waiting room. "I can't do this,"she sobbed.
"Sweets, you have to do this to be certain." She was going to take an over the counter test, but she had to be certain. She needed to know. Rory fumbled with her phone. Did you tell someone there could be a possibility they might be a father? How did that work? What were people going to say? How bad were her grandparents going to hate her? She couldn't be pregnant.
"Do I tell Jess?" Her voice broke saying his name.
"That's up to you, Hun. Do you think you need to tell him? Do you need to be honest with him?" That didn't help her any.
Where are you? She didn't see the point on messing around with the whole hey how are you, crap.
The road, now I'm sitting in the ditch. Why?- Jess
Curious. She rolled her eyes, she wasn't in a very joking manner right now. She knew he never touched his phone while driving.
Where are you?- Jess
This was it. Either she lie and tell him she's in her dorm or she could tell him the truth. The clinic, she stared at the word unsure if she should send it. Closing her eyes she sent the message. There was no way she could back out now.
Jess put his book down, reading the words that sent his heart into over drive. Something was wrong with Rory and he wasn't there to comfort her. Shaking his head of all the things that might be wrong with her, he moved his fingers over the phone keys. You're not pregnant are you? He tried to get back into his book, but it was no use. He was trying to lighten the mood, make a joke, but the seconds quickly ticked by and he didn't get a response.
Possibly... One word had never had such an impact on his life. His life was worse than it was when he was in Stars Hollow. He was in no place to be a father. It was hard enough to take care of himself. Odd jobs along the way. That was no way to live.
Fuck! He typed back. He wasn't happy about this possibility, but he'd do what he had to do. I can be there in a few hours. Say the word.
I'll be fine. Thanks anyway. I'll let you know.
His eyes skimmed over her text. He couldn't let her face this alone. It wasn't the best news to get. She needed him and he need her.
On my way. He tossed his phone into the passenger seat and sped off. He worked himself up, now there was no way she couldn't be pregnant. He'd go to Luke after he talked to Rory and things would fall into place.
She had been anticipating the knock on the door. So when it came she barely heard it. She gave him a smile, stepping aside to let him in. They took residency on the couch. Rory's dorm mates were all out.
"I thought you were on the pill?" Jess asked, raking a hand through his hair.
"Between Europe, California and everything in between, it slipped my mind. I thought you would use a condom!" She hissed.
"I did," he sighed. "Arguing about this isn't going to help us any. Do you know for sure?"
"There is no baby." Hearing the words, felt so freeing. They wouldn't be tied down. They were able to move forward in their lives, kid free. Maybe that's what hurt the most, they wouldn't be tied together for years to come. It wasn't the time to have kids, their whole lives were ahead of them. They were free to do what they wanted. There was even a possibility of losing each other along the way. The only thing keeping they from falling off the side of the earth was Luke and Lorelai. But really how often would they see each other?
