Author's Note. Hey, everybody. I apologize that I haven't updated in forever. This is just a little snippet that popped into my head. I've been having a lot of Brittany and Quinn feels lately, lol, and just wanted to write up a quick little scene between the two. This chapter takes place between Chapter 18: Grieve and Chapter 22: Parenting. The lyrics are from Journey's song "Faithfully".

"Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind
Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sending all my love
Along the wire"
"Hey, how's our girl doing?" Quinn asks as she walks into the darkened living room. She walks over beside Brittany who is sitting in a rocking chair, holding Hope, and she gently strokes Brittany's hair.
Brittany looks up and gives Quinn a tired smile. "Fever broke. She was just a little fussy, so I thought I'd try singing to her. She's sleeping now though." Hope their second born and eldest living child was now about eleven months old and was just getting over a bit of a cold.
"I heard, I forgot how much I love the sound of your voice. You don't sing much." Santana and Rachel sang all the time.
Brittany just shrugs her shoulders, careful not to jostle Hope too much. "I was always more of a dancer anyway."
"And singing Journey," Quinn says with a teasing lilt to her voice, "Aren't you singing the wrong song? I thought all New Directioner's go to song was Don't Stop?"
Brittany chuckles, "If I tell you something will you promise not to tell anyone?"
"Of course."
"I don't really like that song." Brittany says guiltily.
Quinn snorts and quickly covers her mouth, "Sorry." She whispers, worried she might have disturbed a resting Hope, but their daughter doesn't even fidget. "That was just so unexpected."
Brittany grins, "I know, I know, its sacrilege, especially as a former glee club member but to me… that song was never New Direction's song, it was always Finn and Rachel's song. And don't get me wrong I love Finn, I really do, he's really grown up over the years and I'm glad we're friends, but why would I want to sing my wife and her ex-boyfriends song?"
Quinn ducks her head, a huge, amused, grin on her face. "I feel the same way actually."
"Besides, Faithfully is a much better song anyway."
"I agree, though… it does have the same exact issue that Don't Stop has. Worse even, because it actually is a song about love." Quinn points out.
"True, but I never really thought of it as their song, it was just a song that they sang, you know. Despite the fact that… well, yes okay, it is a love song and they did sing it together. It's funny how most songs we sang were actually done by them, actually." Brittany says with a frown. "I swear we all were there but most of the numbers that I recall were Rachel and Finn duets."
"They did have a lot of them didn't they, mind you it's not like they didn't deserve them. Nobody put more work into that club than they did." Quinn says with a shrug.
"Or added more drama." Brittany says with a light chuckle.
"Oh, I don't know about that. I think we were all guilty of that to some degree or another. I know I was."
"True enough. Though now I am curious, which numbers do you remember the most?" Brittany asks, "I think my favorites were the Thriller mashup and when Santana and I sang Landslide with that substitute… what was her name again? Oh well, doesn't matter, but Landslide for obvious reasons, and Thriller because it was just so much fun."
"I think her name was Holiday or something like that." Quinn answers, "I personally have three performances that I really remember, that always meant a lot to me, and that I thought were special. Keep Holding On, Landslide, and Tik Tok."
Brittany arches a brow at Quinn, "Alright the first one I completely understand, same with Landslide, but Tik Tok, really? Didn't I throw up all over Rachel in front of the whole school?"
Quinn's shoulders start to shake as she tries her best to hold back her laughter, "Yes… yes you did, and it was completely disgusting. And promise me you won't tell her, but after that fiasco I went home and I laughed for hours, it was so gross, it really was… but… I was so stressed out at the time and it was just… it was the first time I laughed, really laughed, in weeks. Hell, maybe even months."
Brittany reaches up for Quinn's hand which was currently resting on her shoulder and gives it a comforting squeeze.
"Speaking of Rachel, where is she? I didn't think she'd ever sleep while Hope was down, not that I can really blame her." Quinn says with a slight frown. Rachel had been near neurotic with worry when Hope first caught this flu. Even after the pediatrician had said that she would be fine and that it was just a little bug that was going around, Rachel almost refused to believe them and had spent every moment holding and caring for Hope to the point of neglecting herself. The four of them were a team but Rachel needed to be the one doing everything, or at least supervising, like if she wasn't there then something would go wrong. Quinn was a little worried that Rachel may need to go back to therapy to help deal with her fears and anxieties.
"Santana finally managed to get her to take a sleeping pill and took her to bed, so she's sleeping in Santana's room tonight. I think this has actually been rougher on her than the baby." They had bought a huge house, what with all of the different incomes coming in, it was easy for them to afford and so each of the girls had their own room. They loved each other, but recognized early on that space was sometimes necessary with four of them.
"I'm worried about her."
"Me too, but I think she's stronger than we're giving her credit for. Hope's doing better now and I think once Rachel sees this, it'll go a long way in helping her."
"It's crazy how much she looks like San, isn't it?" Quinn says, after a few moments pass.
"I know, she's the spitting image. Maribel and Aiden were both shocked. Maribel said holding her for the first time, she swears up and down that she was holding Santana at that age and as she's gotten older it's even more noticeable." Brittany says. Yes, Santana was the biological mother, but even still the likeness was uncanny.
"You look tired." Quinn observes.
Brittany just hums in agreement.
"I can hold her if you want to get some sleep." Quinn offers.
"I'm good, thanks though. I think I'll just hold her for a little while longer before I put her to bed."
"Okay, just don't be up too much later, you need your sleep too."
Brittany nods.
"Join me tonight?" Quinn asks, as she goes to leave.
Brittany gives her a playful grin, "I thought you said I needed to sleep."
Quinn just rolls her eyes, but waits for an answer.
"Yeah, sure I'll check in, if you're still awake I'll join you."
"Wake me, I won't mind."
"You sure?"
Quinn just hums in the affirmative before heading out of the living room and down the hall to her room.
Brittany looks down at her daughter who is sleeping lightly and starts to sing softly once, more, picking up where she had left off.
"They say that the road
Ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line
It's been you and me-"
