Dual Personalities
Kurosaki Makoto
Yandere was a word you never understood.
Your friends always called you one, your family said you are one, and the class labeled you as one. They were quite afraid of you yet you never understood why. It was nice enough to have a close-knit of friends, but you never were possessive of them. So, why?
Kurosaki pinched your cheek. "Something wrong?"
You stared back at him with your eyes kind of watery.
"[f/n]?"
"Nee, Makoto... why do you think they call me a yandere?" you asked.
Kurosaki furrowed his eyebrows. "I'm not sure either..."
Somehow, you knew that he was lying, that he knew what was wrong with you. Your eyes fell and you looked straight to the ground. You wondered why anyone would call you a yandere, and you were afraid people would still keep going on and on about you being one. Even if you didn't know what it meant.
Kurosaki pursed his lips. Figuring that you were lost in your thoughts, he didn't press on the matter either. The both of you kept walking in silence, until you two are forced to separate ways.
"Tadaima..." you grunted once you opened the doors to your house.
"Okairi, [f/n]." Your mother smiled at you.
You smiled back and then walked upstairs to your room. Lying on your bed, you realized Kurosaki was alone in the dark. You sat up and your curiosity gets better of you, so you decided to check on Kurosaki.
This is why you jumped from your window.
Your eyes fluttered to Kurosaki. He was badly bruised and battered. How he had survived that fight was truly a question of the century. His eyes opened and he smiled weakly at you.
"Makoto! You shouldn't do that again! What if you got killed?!" You pouted.
"Don't worry... you know, there's always someone who saves me from those things." Kurosaki tried to stand up, but you stopped him. Ignoring his pleas, you tucked him in his bed.
"You're hurt, Makoto. You shouldn't go skipping around your house."
"[f/n]..."
You asked him, "So, where is your savior? You think I could meet him?"
"My savior's a girl." Kurosaki chuckled, "She's pretty amazing. But I'm not sure if she'd like to meet someone else."
Your breathing became ragged and your heart felt like it was being squeezed. Why would you feel like this? Well, you know, it's not like you felt jealous just because he thinks his savior is amazing when you were the one who saw him at the sidewalk (nearly dead, if I may add) and nursed him back to life.
Oh wait.
You did.
You growled silently in frustration, but you decided to let it go. You weren't one to harbor a grudge to another person. Especially if you never saw the person before.
"[f/n]? Where am I?" Kurosaki knitted his eyebrows.
You turned around and gave him a grin. "You're inside your house, Makoto. Can't remember?"
Kurosaki stuck out his tongue and then laughed. "Right, sorry. My vision's kinda blurry..."
Your ears perked up and then you frowned. "Are you sure? Makoto, we should really sign you up for a check up!"
"I'm fine, [f/n]."
"Makoto!"
"You can't force me, [f/n]."
"I can!"
Kurosaki glanced at you. "Prove it."
You bit your lower lip and then sighed. You sputtered, "S-someday!"
"I'll wait for it, then!"
You huffed and walked out of his house. That no good Kurosaki! Can't he even give you a simple thank you? You jumped out of your window just for his sake! But, nooo, he isn't even grateful enough! Imagine, kicking those guys' butts just for him! He's so-
Wait, what?
Did you just hear what you said?
You can't possibly have beaten those guys for him! You were gentle, shy and caring... You can't even hurt a fly! But if you were the one who had beaten all of those guys... wouldn't that make you the person Kurosaki praised? It was possible Kurosaki even likes you!
You sighed. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding inside your head.
You walked to your house, remembering that you spent the night nursing Kurosaki back to health. You grumbled silently, before walking inside your house.
"Oka-san-!" You greeted, but stopped short.
"Who's there?" another person's voice cut through the silence of the house. Knives came flying from upstairs and you managed to dodge every single one of them. You caught the largest knife and hurled it upstairs.
"OW!"
"What are you doing inside my house?!" You yelled.
Your mother walked out from the kitchen. She giggled, "They're your cousins, sweetie. Had fun with Makoto?"
"Y-yeah." Your ears slightly pink.
"You throw too good." One of your cousins complained as he walked down the stairs.
Instead of blushing at the compliment, you paled. So, it was true you were rather good at fighting, thus you could have protected Kurosaki... but why do you only know now?
"[f/n]? Is there a problem?" Your mother combed your hair with her fingers.
"Fine." You sighed, "Well, maybe a little confused..."
"If you mean that how your cousins are here, it's a long story, but-"
"Mom, how do you think I did that?" You cut her off.
Your mother gave you a surprised look. "What do you mean?"
"How I dodged those knives and stuff." You explained, beginning to become nervous and shy.
Your mother touched your head. "Are you sure you're all right, dear? You always been able to do that."
You widened your eyes. "B-but, I know that I can never do that."
"Oh, dear."
"What's with this fuckin' atmosphere?" your cousin growled as he rubbed his temples.
"I think [f/n]'s hitting puberty." Your mother sighed dramatically.
Your cousin ruffled your head. "About time!"
"Wait, wait, wait. I don't get it." You admitted as you struggled out of your cousin's grasp.
"Puberty for us [l/n]s is like having two personalities. There are two people inside you, [f/n]. One who's so forgiving and careful and one that's not so forgiving and careful." Your mother explained.
"W-what are you guys talking about? I'm pretty sure I'm the only one living inside this body!" You fumed.
Your cousin guffawed, "First stage of puberty: denial."
"You should go get some rest. You looked like you spent all night staring at nothing." Your mother rubbed your cheeks and pushed you to the staircase.
You can't help but think that today was rather creepy and that your mother was a psychic.
School, at Monday, was fucked up.
Once you went to your locker, which was at the farthest section of the school, some students were loitering there (looking like mysterious people). But you let them be, after all, it was their choice, not yours.
A small, petite girl walked up to them, a girl you realized was Jade (one of your quiet classmates).
She stammered, "H-here's your lunch..."
"Is that... plain bread?" a girl said with distaste.
"T-there was no more..."
"You can't do anything right!" One scowled.
You frowned as the students threw more insults at Jade. You quickly arranged your things, and, by the time you looked back, Jade had a large bruise on her face.
Anger ran through your veins and rushed over to her. "Jade? Can you stand?"
"[l/n]?"
"Look, you should go to the clinic, maybe they could-"
"Who's your friend, sweetie?" a girl mocked as she walked up to the both of you, with the other students who were loitering around earlier.
"S-she's not my friend!" Jade said quickly, panic running through her.
You frowned and stood up to face the bullies. "Look. I don't care if your older or younger than me, but a rule is a rule. And you should be aware that bullying is against the school rules!"
The guys hooted. "Feisty! That's more like it!"
You looked at them in disgust. One of the girls grabbed your wrist, she whispered, "You'd regret ever saying that." And she pushed you to some boys, who began sticking you up on the wall.
"It won't hurt." One of them grinned sadistically as he pulled out a whip from his bag.
You gritted your teeth. Adrenaline pumped inside your body, and you felt a like there was a person bursting through your body, as if she's waiting to be used. You didn't know back then, but you realized this was another one of your personalities your mother had been talking about.
"I hope this will." You muttered.
They exchanged looks and you kicked one of them in the shin.
You glanced at your dirty hands.
"[f/n]? What's wrong?" You heard Kurosaki enter the clinic.
You looked up to him. Clearly, you had been crying before. You wailed, "I'm a monster, Makoto."
Kurosaki rushed over to you. "Hey, hey, that's not a way to think."
"Did you see what I did to those bullies?"
"I'm sure they deserved it."
"T-they were... t-teasing and k-kicking Jade... w-what if Jade thinks I-I'm a freak?!" You stammered.
"What did you do?" Kurosaki held your hands.
"I-I kicked their asses."
Kurosaki chuckled. "That's great, [f/n]."
"N-no!" You complained, "I'm supposed to be a good student! I didn't want to be so... so indecent!"
Kurosaki hugged you out of nowhere. "Sshh... [f/n], I couldn't care less if you were indecent or unladylike."
You sniffed, "Why?"
"Because you saved my life."
"But-!"
"Be it so that you might say it wasn't you. But, as far as I know, it was really you."
Your face flushed and you hugged him tightly. "Thanks, Makoto."
"I should be the one thanking you."
"No need." You sniffed, "I don't even remember what I did."
Kurosaki chuckled, "I worry about your family, [f/n]."
"You should worry about my sanity."
Kurosaki laughed, "Of course." He tugged your arm and pulled you up, "Come on, we should get going."
And that's when you remembered something. "But, Makoto." You whined, "Don't you have to check up on your wounds?"
Kurosaki stopped and looked at you, recalling the events the day before yesterday. "Oh, yeah. But, you didn't force me yet."
"Makoto~"
"No."
You pouted and complained, "I saved your life back then, and you wouldn't repay me with a simple check-up?"
Kurosaki widened his eyes, and that's when you realized what you said aloud. You apologized, "SORRY!"
"Alright." Kurosaki gave in and walked to the nurse.
Surprising was an understatement.
"I can't believe you did that." You muttered as you and Kurosaki walked home.
"But you won the bet anyway." Kurosaki dismissed.
"It wasn't a proper bet!"
"Mhm..."
The both of you went silent. You spoke up, "Thanks."
Kurosaki looked incredulous, "What?"
"Thank you for going for a check-up." You grinned at him.
Kurosaki smiled back, but his mind was somewhere else. You touched his shoulder, "What is it?"
"I feel like that wasn't enough for a repayment."
You chuckled. "It was definitely enough."
"But it isn't." Kurosaki insisted.
You sighed, "So, what are you going to do?"
Kurosaki stopped. "That's what I've been thinking."
"..."
"I know!" Kurosaki snapped his fingers.
"What is it?" You asked excitedly, leaning your face towards him.
He surprised you by putting his lips on top of yours. When you two broke away, you looked at him with a shock look all over your face. "I-you... what?"
Kurosaki chuckled, but he looked kind of crestfallen. "Sorry, couldn't resist. You were too close."
"O-oh."
Silence.
"Was it you first kiss, [f/n]?" Kurosaki asked.
"Yes." You mumbled.
"Sorry."
"It's alright. Just don't so it again."
Silence. Both of you held your gaze with each other.
"Well," You paused, "maybe just one more."
And you kissed him.
Right then and there, you understood the word: Yandere.
Is it fine? Is it good?
Review and let me know!
And vote for the next victim, too!
