Flashback...

Before anything else could be said and done, there was a knock on the door again. When it opened, it was the doctor who entered holding the discharge papers for both Naru and Shinji. Everyone else left the room to wait for both Naru and Shinji to finish getting ready. Soon enough they were all on their way back to to the Davises' house since it was already getting late. The ride back was uneventful with everyone else drained from the day's events.

...Flashback

-oOo-

The morning after Naru and Shinji were discharged from the hospital, everyone was eating breakfast and were chattering about different things. The team will not be going on any cases in the immediate future, with both Naru and Shinji still out of commission since they were ordered to rest and not to do anything strenuous by the doctors.

Martin cleared his throat to catch everyone's attention. When all eyes were on him, he began to speak, "With everything that has happened, I think this is the best time to inform you about SPR's annual Christmas party. Luella and I would like to invite you and hope that you would be able to come." He finished with a smile on his face.

Luella interjected, "You guys are going to have so much fun. All the members of SPR from the different branches around the world would be there." She said all of this without even taking a breath. Without a word she immediately rushed of to who knows where and returned with a stack of albums in her arms, she placed it in front of the team. "Here you go dears, these were some of the pictures taken from the previous years Christmas parties." She exclaimed with a grin and soon went of a tangent, chattering about all the activities they do during the party like games, the different themes, raffle draws, dancing and other things. None of them could follow what Luella was talking about, with how fast she says her words. But what caught everyone's attention was her spouting about the Japanese branch of SPR becoming official and it will be announced at the party.

"What do you mean by a Japanese branch becoming official mother?" Naru asked with everyone else paying attention as well.

Martin took the reigns from his wife, knowing quite well if he allowed her to explain they would never finish, "Let me explain." Everyone turned to look at the professor, who was smiling at them "The reason why a Japanese branch of SPR hasn't been made off officially is because the purpose of the office back in Japan was only a cover for Noll. He was to take on cases and see whether Japan would be a fitting place to start a new branch, but the real reason for his stay was to search for Gene's body." The others nodded at the information since they were already aware of it. "Nothing will change in how things will operate since Noll would still be in charge, the only difference now is that your team would now have full protection and support coming from the main branch."

Naru along with everyone else were astounded with what Martin just said. Naru looked at his father, who already had an idea on what his son was going to ask raised his hand to stop Naru. Martin then said, "I already have an idea on what you are going to say but listen to me first." Naru conceded and nodded to his father to let him know that he understood. "I believe that it would be a waste of time to come up with another group to handle JSPR, when it already has a fully functioning team albeit unofficial." He looked at each member of the team. "For me, I think there is no need to change what is already there, so what do you think Noll, will you head JSPR officially?"

Naru looked at the others, they were all looking at him with anticipation and expectancy, as they wait for his answer but what caught his attention the most was Mai's hopeful look. He realized then and there that the thought of not having them around, despite how irritating and annoying they were at times, was not very appealing. Despite him hiding his real identity they still accepted him and still consider him as their friend and that was more than he could ask for. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. When he opened them again, he looked at his father seriously, "I would head the JSPR branch officially father, if everyone is amenable with the situation."

His answer was met with loud cheers from all the irregulars, a smile from Lin and most of all an armful of his brunette assistant. Naru found himself suddenly aware of how small Mai was and how she fit perfectly in his arms.

Mai on the other hand wasn't aware of her actions and just threw herself at a certain narcissist boss of hers due to her excitement. She hugged the man with all the strength she has. A cough from Lin made the two realize their position and they immediately separated from each other, with blushes adorning their faces.

Everyone was whistling and cheering from the guys and squeals from the women of the group. Naru started to glare at them, but it no longer had an affect on them since he had an embarrassed look on his face. The guys were patting Naru's back and taking the mickey out of him while Yasuhara started to make lewd suggestions but stopped when he felt Lin's glare directed at him. Lin's siblings were looking at their brother quite amused, they never expected their younger brother to take on fatherhood like a duck to water. Just like all the fathers of teenage girls he was very overprotective.

The women on the other hand pulled Mai to them and started teasing her, with Ayako and Luella commenting that they should start shopping for dresses and to make sure that Mai will make Naru speechless during the party. The girl in question was blushing so much from all the teasing.

From so much embarrassment, Mai squeaked and stood up and said that she'll go make some tea for everyone and rushed out to hide in the kitchen. Naru on the other hand just kept on glaring at everybody else.

-oOo-

When Mai finally returned from making the tea, she found everyone had moved from the dining room to the sitting room. Mai relaxed when she saw that everyone has calmed down and were talking about other things. She headed to Naru first, who was seated away from everybody else reading his notebook, to hand him his tea. As she did so, they made eye contact and it made her blush and squeak and made a retreat, not bothering to wait for his thanks. Naru on the other hand just chuckled at Mai's reaction, feeling content even if he took on the brunt of everyone's teasing. He looked at his assistant with a fond look on his face, not noticing that a certain someone was sending him death glares and wanted to strangle his neck.

Once Mai gave everyone their tea, she headed towards Ayako and the other women. She then saw that they were looking at some of the pictures and caught a glimpse of something. Looking closely, she saw that it was a photo of a cruise ship, "Luella-san, do you know anything about this picture?"

Everyone stopped what they were doing when they heard Mai's question. Luella looked at the young girl and turned her attention to the picture, "Hmm, I believe this picture was taken several years ago. It was during the time when SPR was already at full swing and we were celebrating its founding. I believe the name of the ship was the Cathalina. Why do you ask of it, my dear?"

Mai who was staring at the picture intently, absent mindedly answered, "I...I think I've seen this somewhere, I just don't remember where." The name of the ship kept floating around Mai's head as though being whispered by a voice that Mai felt she knows but couldn't recognize or remember who it was.

Before she knew it, Bou-san's hand was on top of her head and was asking her with a worried tone, "Jou-chan, are you just fine? Did you see something?"

When Mai looked around, she saw everyone looking at her with worry on their faces. It was also when she realized that she had tears running down her face. Mai's eyes widened, "Wha-t, why am I crying?" She said in surprise while clutching the picture.

"Mai." Naru called out to the girl, but his tone was not that of impatience but of worry. He went to the girl and handed her a cup of tea. Mai looked at Naru and thanked him for the tea. When he saw that Mai was calm enough he asked, "Are you feeling alright?"

Mai was startled by his question and after a while nodded her head, "I'm alrignt, the picture just startled me. It just feels so familiar."

Shinji then asked his student, "Was it a vision or a memory?" Mai shook her head in the negative.

"I'm not sure, it feels like a vision but it also feels like a distant memory. I don't know anymore, there are times I feel as though some of my memories have a blank space in them and no longer know what's real or not." Mai said while hugging herself like a scared child and was starting to shake. She then felt warmth wrap around her.

When she looked up, she saw that it was Luella who was holding her and saying soothing words to her. The calm and warmth she felt being emitted by Luella made her break and she finally cried her heart out, clutching unto Luella like a small child. Everyone looked on with worry on their faces but Lin, Shinji, Naru and Lin's siblings had a solemn look on their faces thinking that something must have happened to Mai and they need to find out what it was fast before anything else happened to the girl.

After a few minutes, Mai's cries finally subsided and she let go of Luella, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cry on you. It's just that." Luella place a finger on Mai's lips to stop the girl from speaking.

She then said to the girl in a motherly voice, "You don't have to explain anything Mai, if you ever need a shoulder to cry on I'm just hear along with everyone else. Remember dear, you are not alone." The others just smiled at her as they all agreed with Luella.

Mai smiled and thanked everyone else. But before anyone could comment or something, Madoka barged into the room startling everyone. It was only they became aware of the fact, that Madoka wasn't with them during morning and they found it strange that they didn't even notice that Luella's partner in crime was missing all through out breakfast.

Their thoughts were broken however by Madoka's excited chatter, "Guys, you wouldn't believe it, I found some information about Mai's parents." She was her usually cheery self but when she looked at everyone then at Mai, her face soon had a frown on it. "Mai, honey, what happened? Were you crying? Did Noll do something to you?" The question earned her a glare from Naru.

Mai waived her hands in front of her, "I'm just fine Madoka-san, Naru didn't do anything. I'm alright now, I swear I just got a little bit overwhelmed with something about my memories." The girl tried to assure the woman, she then continued to ask, "So, what did you find out about my parents, Madoka-san?"

Madoka was a little bit wary to tell Mai what she found when she saw the worried looks the others gave the younger girl. Bou-san was about to say something but was beaten to it by Naru. "Mai, are you sure you want to find out?" Naru asked his assistant, worry marring his face though it cannot be noticed if you didn't know him.

Mai looked at Naru and nodded her head, "Yeah, I'm alright. I want to know and maybe we can find some clues about my memories." She said with conviction.

Everyone smiled since they were glad to see, despite what had happened, Mai's spirit was still strong. Madoka, seeing Mai was not backing down, relented, "Well , if your really sure Mai-chan, I'll start then." Mai nodded her head and focused all her attention to Madoka along with everybody else.

"Alright, I'll start with their names first your father's name was Taniyama Hosuke and your mother's maiden name was Amamiya Reiko." Madoka looked at the girl who nodded her head in the affirmative.

Madoka nodded her head, when she saw Mai nod to her parents name. "I'll continue from there then. From what I've found so far, Mai's mother was actually born here in England though she is of Japanese descent with her parents here for vacation but your grandmother giving birth prematurely." She stopped talking and looked if everyone was still following what she was saying.

She then continued, "As for your father, he was born here in England since your grandparents lived here but soon enough his family migrated back to Japan once he was born. I also found out that his parents were acquaintances of Martin's parents but lost contact with them. The same with your mother's family who returned to Japan a month after your mother was born. This were the only information I managed to gather so far, but its a start." Madoka finished and she looked at their reactions.

Madoka then looked at the girl with an apologetic look, "I'm sorry Mai, that was all I could find at the moment but we might be able to find out more back in Japan seeing as they did return to Japan."

Mai smiled at Madoka, "It's alright Madoka, though I want to find out more about my parents, hearing any information about them makes me happy." She looked at everyone, "I want to thank you guys for helping me find out more about my parents and just being here with."

Everyone smiled at her, with Bou-san rushing towards her and giving her a bear hug. The next thing you know he was being hit by Ayako with her purse and things start to get lively again. Naru rolled his eyes at their antics and started to get up to head to his office when he heard his mother comment. "Its going to be so lonely when you guys return back to Japan." She turned to her husband, "Martin, don't you think it would be a good idea if we buy a home in Japan so that if we come visit we have a place to live in."

Before Martin could answer his wife. Naru immediately commented in alarm, "You will do no such thing mother."

Everyone was startled at Naru's reaction. But what really shocked them was the frightened expression on his face when his mother suggested that she will go and visit him and everyone else once they returned to Japan. They were all losing their battle to not laugh at Naru's expression when his parents agreed to buy a house in Japan along with his mother trying to guilt trip him about not seeing her son and how lonely she was. Aside from that, she was also threatening Naru about telling everyone embarrassing stories about his childhood. Mai watched everyone enjoying themselves and she thought to herself everything would be alright as long as she's with them
