Author's Note: Thanks to SeekingShadows, WinterRain36, lizardmomma, ObsessedwReading, and for writing reviews of the previous chapter. (I literally rushed writing this post because I know I've been delinquent, and requested more!) Thanks also to LovBrenDyMack and Anouki90 for adding this story to your list of followed stories!
I apologize for writing such a short chapter. Initially this episode was a two parter, but since I'm going to provide more details for Paige's magical mixup, I have to break the episode into three parts.
Just so you all know I've just finished writing the episode 4x15! For all you followers who have been anticipating the appearance of Prue's devastating power (as seen in 2x02 "Morality Bites") or her reaction to finding out Andy is alive, episodes 4x14 and 4x15 are going to be amazing. Continue to review and follow!
Chapter 26, Episode 4x13
I Only Have Eyes for Prue, Part Two
The Seer's Chambers, The Underworld
While the Seer quietly meditated in one corner of her private chambers, sitting cross-legged atop a flat boulder, the Oracle paced restlessly before her. The Oracle's silk and chiffon robes rustled as she walked. It was the only source of sound in the chamber. Every few seconds, the Oracle aimed incensed glances at the Seer. She stopped pacing, glared, and unfolded her arms from her bosom. The Seer's eyes remained closed. Finally, the Oracle gave an impatient snort. Without opening her eyes, the Seer drawled, "I see that you resent the current state of our plan."
"Resent? What is there to 'resent,' Seer?"
"I sense that these quarters are not suited to your liking."
The Oracle stomped across the room and leaned closely to the Seer's face. "When I served the true Source of All Evil, I lived in luxury. I had the finest foods. My clothes were made from the most luxurious materials, and I was protected by a legion of loyal demons. Now," she chuckled derisively, "I am in hiding for my life. My clothes are stained. And…"
"And you are protected by a far more benevolent Source." Cole emerged from the recesses of the Seer's chambers. His shirtless, hairy torso gleamed with sweat from some exhaustive training he had undergone, and he gave the Oracle a look of cold assessment. "One who is willing to forgive the mistakes of loose tongue."
The Oracle assessed Cole with blatantly lustful eyes. Cole's left eyebrow rose. "I suppose you have a point, my liege. Thank you for your gracious forgiveness."
"In my former vessel, Oracle, you never gave me such a look."
"Your former vessel was no merely so…appealing."
Cole smirked and folded his arms authoritatively. "What were you discussing with the Seer?"
The Seer exited her meditative trance. "The Oracle is displeased with our current status. She longs for the finery of the Source's palace."
"Well," the Oracle chuckled nervously, "I didn't exactly say that. I just…wanted to know a timetable."
"A timetable for what?" Cole asked.
"When are we going to take back power from the legions of demonic upstarts?" the Oracle demanded.
Cole smirked. "Once the Seer's plan is carried to fruition, you will have all your finery again and much more. You will be my Queen and mother to my heir. This is only temporary." Cole turned to return to the darkness from which he had come and stopped. "And if you ever question the intentions of my plans again…" He conjured an energy ball and flung it from his left hand without turning. The energy ball passed so close to the Seer that she literally felt its heat burn her left ear. Cole continued walking away.
Halliwell Manor
Piper and Paige arrived in the kitchen in a cloud of iridescent blue-and-white Orbs, just in time to see Prue dodge another energy ball. The demon who had thrown the energy ball chuckled sinisterly. "Come out, pretty little witch! There's no use in hiding now!"
"You're right." Piper aimed her hands at the demon and Combusted him without a moment's hesitation. That was when she spotted the other three demons, and Dalthiel, who stood in the kitchen. All three powerfully built, towering demons flanked Dalthiel. He sneered at Piper and Paige.
"That was one of my best lieutenants. But four against two? I like those odds."
'Where is kick-ass Prue when we need her most?' Paige wondered. The three demons surrounding Dalthiel formed energy balls and raised their arms to lob them at the sisters. Piper flicked out her fingers to Immobilize the four demons. They slowed down but did not stop moving. "Uh, Piper?"
"Yeah, Paige, I see it! Quick, what was the spell we used before?" Piper said hastily.
"What spell?" Paige shrieked.
Piper groaned and glanced down at Prue, who huddled beneath the kitchen island. Prue's eyes were shut tightly in fear. "Prue, what was the spell?"
"Make them go away again, Piper, like you did before!"
The demons Unfroze and unleashed their powers simultaneously at Piper and Paige. They ducked to the floor. There was a loud snap from Piper's right wrist. Paige watched her older sister flinch from immediate pain. "You two, kill the annoying one. You, kill the other one. Prudence is mine," Dalthiel growled.
Piper scrambled to her feet. 'I wish I had a more useful active power. Then I could help my sister fight!' Paige thought sullenly.
"Leo!" Piper yelled as she presented herself to the attacking demons. "Prue!" Piper flung out her hands at the nearest demon and he Combusted before releasing the energy ball. A second demon, designated by Dalthiel to attack Piper, flung an energy ball at her. With a flick of her right fingers, Piper Combusted the energy ball and sent the demon tumbling backwards.
"You stupid witch!" Dalthiel launched a fireball at Piper. She ducked, but Leo Orbed into the kitchen in the fireball's path. He was knocked into a wall.
A third demon lobbed an energy ball in Paige's direction. She Levitated above the energy ball and high kicked the demon in its face. Piper flicked her fingers outward, and the demon Combusted. Dalthiel let out an enraged yell. "I'll kill you! I'll kill both of you!" He fired off a lightning bolt from both hands: one aimed at Paige, the other aimed at Piper. Both sisters ducked. Where they had stood, the walls exploded from the lethal force of Dalthiel's attack. "You think that little trick is going to save you?"
Piper jumped to her feet. Before Dalthiel could attack again, she flung out her uninjured hand and Combusted Dalthiel. He exploded in a swirl of demonic dust. "Paige, Prue, come on, Power of Three spell!"
"I-I don't have one!" Paige yelped.
"Make him go away, Piper!" Prue hissed under the kitchen counter.
Dalthiel Reconstituted. Piper waved her hand at him and Combusted him again. "I don't know how much time we have!"
"Ok, ok, I think I have a spell!" Paige said anxiously. She stood up and took Piper's right hand, just as Dalthiel Reconstituted a third time. Piper used her left hand to Combust him. Holding onto Piper's injured hand, Paige yelled,
This unwelcome evil is in our home,
Within these walls, he cannot roam.
Take this evil in our midst
And make him vanish like morning mist!
In an explosion of inky black smoke, Dalthiel and the unconscious demon vanished. 'I can't believe it worked!' Paige thought, smiling gleefully. Prue stood up, brushed back her hair, and breathed a sigh of relief. "You made the scary bad man go away, and there's no icky mess to clean up? How did you do that?"
Paige put her hands on her hips and jerked her thumb at Prue. "Okay, how do I get her to stop? It's like she's under a spell or something."
Piper stooped beside Leo and shook the blond Whitelighter awake. "Hey, you missed all the fireworks. Welcome back."
"Did you Vanquish the demons?" Leo asked.
"We didn't know how to, but Paige had a makeshift spell handy. What were those things?"
Prue cleared her throat. Her sisters and Leo turned their attention to her. "If you three don't mind, I need space in my kitchen. I have a busy day ahead: Bane is expecting me to bring his lunch to work and have dinner on the table when he gets home tonight. And I will not be late! So shoo!"
Piper rolled her eyes but pushed past Paige to exit the kitchen. Leo and Paige followed. "Leo! What am I supposed to do? This is bigger than a case of pre-wedding day jitters."
"Yeah, it's like Prue's become one of those scary 50's sitcom wives," Paige added. "She has all of the sweetness but none of the reality."
"In my experience as a Whitelighter, Prue is under some sort of spell or curse."
"Can't we do a counter curse?" Paige asked.
"Check the Book of Shadows. We can't afford to have Prue out of commission like this. Prue might not even be able to access the Power of Three in this state."
"I'm on it!" Paige announced. She jogged toward the stairs.
"Wait, Paige," Piper called. Paige stopped on the first landing of the stairs. "How are you going to do demonic research, when you have to go back to work?"
"Oh…I, uh, took half the day off." She nodded as if the story sounded acceptable to her and continued up the stairs without another word. 'In the meantime, let's check on the clones back at the office, shall we?' Paige Orbed out.
Bay Area Social Services
Paige arrived at her office secluded in the privacy of a janitor's closet. She cautiously turned the knob from the inside and peered into the hallway through the crack. No one seemed to be in the hall. Paige opened the door wider and snuck carefully into the hall. 'If I'm right, this is the hall with the toilets. The full-time staff have their offices on this hall too.'
As she approached the women's restroom, the door swung open inwardly. The person exiting the restroom was too swift for Paige to duck into obscurity. The blonde woman's eyes widened when she spotted Paige. "Paige? Is that you?"
"Um," Paige chuckled sheepishly, "yeah, it's me." The stout, red-haired woman wasn't remotely familiar to Paige, so the youngest Halliwell smiled awkwardly while racking her mind for a name. "So…how's it going?"
"You have some nerve coming back here." The stout woman advanced upon Paige with a menacing glare to her dark blue eyes. "After the stunt you pulled, disgracing our profession, and in front of parents seeking adoption, too! I ought to call the police on you."
Paige backed up into a corner at the end of the hall. "What are you talking about?"
The red-headed woman's face turned as scarlet as her hair. Paige could imagine steam billowing from her nose. "You danced on a desk like some kind of…harlot! And during a visitation from prospective parents!"
"Wh-why…why would I do that?"
The red-haired woman narrowed her eyes. "Like you don't know!" Her lips curled with revulsion. "You know, my favorite rumor going around the office is that David Haynes from Human Resources offered you twenty dollars to do it."
"What? David is married! And gross!"
"Whatever. Just leave this office, you little trollop. Leave before I call the police!"
Paige lowered her eyes and walked briskly down the hall until she reached the main door of the office. She could sense dozens of pairs of eyes following her and peeked a couple of her male coworkers grinning knowingly. Paige kept her eyes lowered until she exited the building. Outside in the brilliant San Franciscan sun, Paige pressed her fingertips to her temples. 'What on earth did my clones do? And where are they now?'
Halliwell Manor
Only moments after Vanquishing Dalthiel, Prue had returned to the kitchen and was busy assembling a deli sandwich. She had styled her long brown hair into a B-52 hairstyle, wore a fresh, crisp white apron, and a pink posh designer dress to compliment her black leather pumps. Her makeup was flawless. Prue was humming a tune. Her smile seemed almost maniacal.
Piper watched from the doorway. When she could tolerate no more, Piper turned from the sight to face Leo with a slack-jawed expression. "Leo, what am I supposed to do? There was nothing in the book about a curse like this. And Paige Orbed out to God knows where." Piper folded her arms over her chest. "I just hate being in situations like this. Prue always knows what to do. She knows the next step. She always plans for the worst."
Leo stared at her for a pregnant moment. He rubbed her left arm. "Piper, it's been three days."
"I didn't ask for that." Piper snatched away her arm.
"Can't we talk? I miss you." Leo reached for Piper's hair to stroke it.
Piper snatched away again. "Tell me the truth, Leo: Has it really been three days? Or did you sprinkle some Memory Dust in my coffee when I wasn't looking?"
"You know, I bet it's really easy for you, Piper. All you have to do is to blame me."
Piper glanced into the kitchen. Prue was wrapping the assembled sandwich into plastic wrap for transportation. She had no idea that Leo and Piper were on the other side of the doorway. "It is easy, Leo, because it is your fault. You lied to me, your wife, for months, and you erased my memory to make sure no one would know. How could you?"
"I think a better question, Piper, is how could you not tell Prue the truth yet?" Before Piper could say anything in response, Leo turned and stormed up the stairs to the Book of Shadows. Piper turned to the kitchen, only to find it empty and Prue missing. 'Damn it.'
The Underworld, The Seer's Chambers
Dalthiel stormed into the Seer's chambers like an enraged bull. He swiped his left arm and a lit brazier fell to the floor. He flicked his claw and the Seer's astrological chart burst into flames. The cave was completely empty. "Seer! Where are you, you lying bitch? Having a vision of your imminent death?" Dalthiel fired another lightning bolt at a lamp.
The Seer Appeared. She was placid as ever with her hands folded serenely in front of her. "What do you want, Dalthiel? Did you fail to…?"
Dalthiel seized the Seer by her throat and slammed her against one of the walls. The Seer's eyes bulged in their sockets. "I am not to be toyed with," Dalthiel hissed. "You told me that the one witch I needed to kill would be powerless. You told me she would be alone. Instead, her sisters were there! They killed two of my best lieutenants! Explain yourself!"
He flung the Seer to the floor. She gasped for air. "I…told you…truthfully…what I saw. I didn't know…how long…she would be...alone. You should focus on killing her."
"But killing you would be so much more fun."
"If you kill me, who will advise you once you are on the throne?"
Dalthiel sneered. "I am going to kill this witch. And when I do, I'll return to decide your fate." He Shimmered out.
Cole emerged from the shadowy recesses of the cavern. His arms were folded over his chest. He wore an elegant red silk vest, white collared shirt, and black slacks. "Tell me why you did not allow me to slay Dalthiel. And make it believable, Seer."
She turned on him. "Let Dalthiel attempt to kill the witch. If he succeeds, then the Charmed Ones are dead. If he fails, then one less claim to the throne has been eliminated. Your powers aren't at their full strength yet. Surely you know that."
"Very well then, I will follow your advice." He turned his head, and Cole's eyes became as black as his slacks. Then he stared the Seer down. "If you ever imply again that I am not powerful enough to handle myself, I will not be so conservative with your life."
Halliwell Manor, San Francisco
Bane parked his 2000 silver Mercedes two door coupe in front of Halliwell Manor. The sleek, modern exterior of the car starkly contrasted Prue's appearance. She wore a blue dress in the 1960s style of Jacqueline Kennedy with a white pillbox hat, kit gloves, and matching blue pumps. Her brown hair was tucked neatly under her hat.
"Bane, honey, it is very inappropriate to bring me home like this. We are only engaged. The neighbors might think we aren't waiting for marriage!"
He turned off the car and turned to Prue. "What's going on, Prue?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're acting like some nineteen fifties TV show housewife! This isn't you!"
Prue pouted angrily. "I don't see what the problem is, Bane. I brought you a healthy lunch. I would be derelict in my duties as your intended wife if I didn't."
"You brought me a smoked ham sandwich, a baked potato, corn-on-the-cob, and a slice of freshly baked apple pie." Bane narrowed his eyes at Prue. "How did you make all of that? You don't cook."
"Bane, I'm about to become your wife. It is my duty to make your meals, wash your clothes, clean the house…" Prue's complexion and clothes briefly flashed to a washed out gray. Bane shook his head and blinked his eyes in awe.
"Prue…."
"Yes, Bane?"
"Never mind. Prue, what you're describing is a maid, not a wife. If this is what being married to you will be like, I don't want it."
