Another shorter chapter which will be closely followed by a longer one.
It would be lovely to hear some feedback on what you think/how you would like this to progress/what is working/what isn't working, etc.
Chapter 26
Sophie allowed herself to continue to watch out the window until Squid was a shadowy speck in the distance. She suddenly felt wide awake and even though she got under her bed covers and squeezed her eyes shut, she knew there was no chance she was going to fall asleep.
She felt under her pillow for her sketchbook. She often drew to calm herself down or to send herself to sleep. At home, she would often draw late into the night until her eyes got itchy with sleep and her head would be heavy and resting upon the rough pages of the book.
Her hand explored the depths beneath her pillow yet her fingers did not grasp the hard cover- the sketchbook wasn't there.
She sighed, sometimes the book would fall through the bed frame at the head of the bed and would be lurking under her bed somewhere. She climbed out of bed and rummaged beneath, a few missing socks, but nothing else.
Sophie felt panic surge through her. Her sketch book was her most valued possession and it haunted her to think she had left it somewhere and that she never found it again. All her drawings…all those hours…they were important to her.
She grabbed her bag off the side and searched through it frantically- not there! She was so sure she had left it under her pillow. A thought suddenly gripped her…Squid! I'm so going to get him for this.
