Update day!

Right, let me explain about this chapter- all these dances are based on those danced by our very own Sunetra in Strictly last year, except the very last one which was danced to by Pixie Lott. Anyway, if click on this link - watch?v=9LalrgZhM18&list=PLjTtZfwwAHxQi-oQhQqi6Q_d_s1f99YXl - it should take you to a playlist of Sunetra's dances. If you didn't watch Strictly or can't remember what any of them were like, I suggest watching these :D Even if you don't particularly care I'd watch them anyway- she was brilliant!

Instead of your normal reviews this week, I'd like you to tell me who you'd want to win the first round of the dance competition! This can be based on your favourite dance, character or couple, it's entirely up to you :D I'll add up all the "votes" and announce the winner in the next chapter :D

Sorry the intro was so long! Please do review with who you want to win! -Sophie x

Just as they entered the ballroom again, the room was filled with the voice of Christine again.

"Could all registered couples please make their way to the side of the band, that's all registered couples to the side of the band- we are nearly ready to begin! Thankyou!"

Connie looked up at Cal and smiled. "Ready Dr Knight?"

He looked down at her before placing an arm around her waist as they made their way to the side of the stand. "I think the question is, are you ready Mrs Beauchamp?"

Once everyone had assembled they were told to get into number order. This was as follows-

1. Lily and Ethan

2. Connie and Cal

3. Zoe and Max

4. Tess and Charlie

5. Robyn and Ben

6. Charlie and Noel

7. Amy and Mac

8. Rita and Lofty

9. Louise and Ash

10. A young British couple by the names of Carlie and Shayne that Rita got talking to at the buffet.

Lily and Ethan were up first, and so given a choice of song for their dance. They decided on a slow one, "Last Request" by Paolo Nutini which they were going to attempt to Waltz to.

The main lights went down, the spotlight came on and Christine took her place at the microphone.

"First up tonight ladies and gentlemen are Lily Chao and Ethan Hardy! They will be attempting a waltz style dance to "Last Request", so give them a warm welcome!"

The crowd either side of the dancefloor cheered and clapped as the two medical professionals made their way cautiously to the centre of the floor. They stood opposite each other and the music began.

As the singer began the lyrics, the doctor looked into Lily's eyes and smiled widely before taking her hand.

"Ready?" he whispered.

"Ready." She replied, and he took her into a couple of smooth twirls before tentatively attempting to move with her. Luckily her feet remained intact, and as the chorus filled the large ballroom, the couple span round the edge of the floor, Lily's dress creating a draught as she span.

They moved round their space, attempting some poses as the professionals would do before the song ended and Ethan held her close.

The lights went back up and there was a huge round of applause from their friends by the side of the band. The couple grinned and walked hand in hand to the judges table where Christine was waiting.

"Brilliant you two, just brilliant!" She grinned as she placed her arm around Lily's shoulders. "How did you find it?"

"Loved it." She smiled and their host squeezed her slightly before turning to the judges.

"Ok, judges scores and comments. Ms Evelyn Havisham?"

The elderly lady held up a 9 and the crowd cheered.

"Impressive! What's your reasoning?"

Evelyn smiled. "The chemistry between you two is just perfect for dance- you did really well."

"Lovely comments there Lily and Ethan. Gordon?"

The director of events held up an 8, with the reasoning, "perfect chemistry as Evelyn said but your posture wasn't particularly good, and Ethan you kept looking at your feet all the time! That's not how it works!" At this last part some people laughed, causing Ethan to go bright red. Christine then turned to the last judge.

"Camilla Brown, your score please?"

The woman held up a 6, her facial expression unreadable.

"It was alright I guess." She said as if she were bored before looking over to the bar.

"Well that gives you a tidy score of 21 out of 30! Not bad." Christine smiled as she gave Lily's back a little pat to indicate the two needed to vacate the floor. "Up next is Connie Beauchamp and Caleb Knight! They will be dancing to "The Way You Look Tonight" by the great Frank Sinatra! Take it away…"

The band began to play and Connie stood looking down. They had discussed the feel of it and had created a vague plan whilst they were waiting for Lily and Ethan to finish. Cal span round and tapped her on the shoulder, to which she crossed her arms and looked the other way coyly. He did it again before twirling round and taking a few steps forward. Connie then looked up to join him, and she did her very best to copy Cal's moves as they span and danced gracefully around the floor. She was taken completely by surprise however when he decided to spin her round then lift her so her dress billowed out in front of them. As the song ended, Cal twirled Connie into a tender embrace and the crowd roared with appreciation. She grinned and hugged him.

"In a reply to your question, yes, I was ready." She said smugly as they reached Christine who was rather giddy.

"That was stunning- Connie you were so elegant and glamorous!" The doctor was itching to correct her on the use of her first name only but decided against it. Their host went on. "We're running out of time everyone so judges, on the count of 3, can you reveal your scores! One, two… Three!"

Their panels went up and Connie's mouth dropped- a 10 and two nines! Evelyn Havisham had given them the 10 and she looked at the couple approvingly.

"You remind me of myself when I was younger my dear. Elegant, sophisticated and absolutely beautiful. Tremendous routine, well done."

"That's a grand total of 28, meaning you're now in front of Lily and Ethan! Up next are Zoe Hanna and Max Walker- let's see if they can beat your score!"

Connie and Cal passed their colleagues and Cal gave them a quick high five before scurrying to the side of the band just as the music started again.

They had chosen fast paced "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" by The Scissor Sisters, and spent most of their time laughing when Max tripped over her feet. By the end of it Zoe was laughing so hard she couldn't stand straight, and they ended their dance by Max picking Zoe up and placing her on his shouters, she grasping his head for dear life.

Needless to say they didn't beat Connie and Cal, and walked off the dancefloor with a total of 15, with Camilla Brown awarding them a measly 3.

After Zoe and Max was Tess and Charlie. They treated it as a joke and chose "Girl From Ipanema" as their song choice, and a rhumba for their style of dance. Tess played a young, sexy woman that took no notice of any men she met. Charlie played one of these men, and went very very red when the nurse decided to wrap her arms around his neck backwards, and let her body sway down his front then back up again. Part of the crowd laughed, most of it "ooooh!"-ed then laughed.

Most of their points were entertainment value, and finished with a total of 22, just one in front of Lily and Ethan.

After the older couple, it was Robyn and Ben who danced the salsa to "Turn the beat around" by Gloria Estefan. Ben had evidently had lessons, and tried his best to lead Robyn around the floor. Turns out the nurse had little to no co-ordination at all, and they ended up pulling some party moves until the music stopped.

They finished with 19, and then it was Noel and Charlie's turn.

Neither of them could dance very well at all, and so they decided that Charlie would create some hip action, and Noel would skip round the floor. This didn't excite the judges very much and they received 13 out of 30 and were now losing.

Mac and Amy decided on a foxtrot to John Newman's "All of me.", and Mac wowed the judges and his friends with his graceful moves. He very smugly returned once he had received the tidy score of 22, the same as Tess and Charlie, he stuck his tongue out at Noel who made a rude hand gesture when he wasn't looking.

Rita and Lofty were up next, and their group wasn't expecting much when they decided on a tango to "Bad Case of Loving You". But when they started to dance, Rita took the lead and they danced pretty well, despite the few accidental kicks and toe- steppings from Lofty. They span and jumped and kicked their way into 4th place with 20 points!

After them came the final couple from their group- Louise and Ash. They chose "Anyone who had a heart" by Cilla Black for their Viennese Waltz. Due to Ash's surprisingly good posture and moves, and Louise's steely atmosphere that she took everywhere she went, their dance went very well indeed! Evelyn described it as a "tornado of passion" which they both immediately denied, and Camilla said it "wasn't as bad as she'd expected". These positive comments scored them 23, just ahead of Tess and Charlie, and Mac and Amy.

The last couple Carlie and Shayne danced a Charleston to "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" which went down a storm with the audience, but the judges only gave them 20 in total.

Christine went out onto the floor and through her microphone, informed them that there was a surprise in store for them- a professional would be here to dance with a lucky contestant later!

"To find out who it is, rendezvous here after the second round which will begin in half an hour! Enjoy the break folks and remember- Nora and James will be coming round with the voting box and paper for you to choose who you want to win!" She turned off her mike, handed it to one of the singers and went over to the bar, whilst the Holby lot went to sit back down, appreciative of the cool drinks that were waiting for them.
