Chapter 24: Me and the (Un)wanted Attention
Kanata doesn't hate kids.
He's not particularly fond of them either.
But there is a certain, specific baby that he's starting to dislike.
Ever since the kid started living with them, he's feeling less like the young master of the house and more of a wallpaper.
During meal times…
''Say 'aaaahh', Ruu" Miyu said for the nth time as she leveled the spoon with the eager blonde baby.
"Can you pass me the salt?" Kanata said, motioning to the shaker beside the 'mother-son' blondes.
The baby turned to look at him from his highchair, as if acknowledging his request, then just smiled and faced his 'mother' happily saying "Daa!"
Too enthralled by the cuteness of the baby, the young maid giggled, "Is it good?" Miyu asked, as she wiped the excess around his mouth, earning another proud "Daa!" from the baby.
"Salt…" Kanata said again, this time a bit louder than previously – annoyance clear on his tone.
Unfortunately for him, the baby found it to be the perfect time to yell a loud "Un!" as he bounced lightly on his chair, motioning for bottle on the main table – all eyes, once again, directed at him.
"You want some water, Ruu?" Miyu asked sweetly as she made to get the drink. As she turned towards the table, she finally noticed the young man standing beside her.
"Did you want something, young master?" the blonde maid asked, oblivious to the brunet's needs.
Kanata couldn't help but scowl first at her then have a glaring contest with the baby. After earning a confusing look from the blonde maid and, albeit, a smug look from the baby, the brunet abruptly turned back towards his seat – not before glancing at the two coldly.
The saltshaker remaining untouched by the other end of the table.

Whenever he gets back from school…
"Welcome back, young master," Seiya greeted as he paused from shaping the hedge beside the main entrance.
The brunet nodded in acknowledgement, but paused as he noticed something amiss. He turned his head from left to right, as if searching for something (read: someone) in particular.
"If you're looking for Miyu, she's giving baby Ruu a bath," Seiya said as continued snipping on the hedge.
Kanata looked over his shoulder – a frown marring his face. "I wasn't asking," he said as he walked proudly through the main door.
As soon as the brunet was gone, the butler couldn't help but snicker at the young man. "Maybe not out loud," he said as he continued trimming the greenery.

Whenever he wakes up in the morning…
Ever since the blonde was back, a certain alarm clock conveniently stopped being effective. As if it knew that its master had no longer required its use since his original alarm clock (read: Miyu) has come back.
So come Monday of the week after Miyu's arrival, a certain brunet was expecting to be awakened by the calming voice he knew oh so well. But instead, he was awakened by the shrill voice of someone poorly attempting to sound like it.
"Wake up, young master. It's time for school," the annoying voice said, trying miserably to sound like a girl. "Would you like me to help you in the shower?" the voice couldn't help but snicker.
…
Just as the blonde was on his way out as he sported three gigantic lumps on top of his head, he suddenly stopped after hearing the brunet mumble – more to himself that towards him.
"Again?"
The blonde turned to look at the still groggy teen. "Miyu asked me to wake you up, young master," Seiya answered unsolicited, making the brunet coldly look at him. "She's still arranging a few of her stuff as well as baby Ruu's," he expounded, turning towards the door to save himself from more bruises from the upset teen.

It's been two weeks since the blonde(s) are home. Still, Kanata felt that Miyu was still pretty much a thousand miles away from him.
"Wallpaper…" Kanata mumbled as he walked up the stairs. He had just come home from school and once again, he knows he'll just be greeted by none other than that annoying blonde butler of his.
True to his expectations, he was indeed greeted by blondes – albeit two of them, and none of whom he wanted to see.
"Welcome home, young master," Seiya said, as he bowed towards the brunet. He was sporting a frowning blonde baby in his arms.
Kanata's eyebrows couldn't help but shoot up from the uniqueness of the sight. He subconsciously turned to look from left to right, searching for someone yet again.
Seiya couldn't help but smirk at the young man's obvious silent question. "If you're looking for Miyu, she's in her room," the blonde started. "She has a fever so I decided to take Ruu-kun away from her to save him from catching it," he said, the frowning baby scowling some more to emphasize the point.
Without a sound, the brunet was about to walk towards the maid's room – more concerned over the blonde maid than the smug looking blonde in front of him, but was suddenly stopped by the appearance of the elder Kouzuki.
"Welcome home, young master," he greeted. "Miyu is currently sleeping right now, but her fever has somewhat gone down. She'll be back to her usual self in no time."
He then turned to look at the hopeful looking baby in front of him, "Unfortunately, this is the part where the fever is the most contagious, so it'd be best if everyone were to leave her alone for a bit," he explained, visibly crushing the blonde baby's dreams.
"Mama…" Ruu suddenly mewled, as tears started rimming his eyes.
"Guess I'm not the only one missing her already," Kanata said as he eyed the sniffling blonde baby.
"There, there, Ruu-kun," Seiya said, as he patted the sulking baby's head. "What do you say you and me have a little uncle-nephew bonding time until your mama gets better, huh?" he said in an attempt to cheer the baby up.
"Oh no," the elder Kouzuki shot his idea down immediately. "You still have to do your chores today, young man," he reprimanded, as he took the baby away from the blonde butler and left.
"No fair," Seiya said, as he sulked. "He just wants some great granddad-great grandson bonding time for himself," he said as he walked towards the kitchen.
Left alone, Kanata couldn't help but sigh. "Alone again, huh?" he thought as he made his way up his room.

"And (yawn) they lived happily ever after (yawn)," the elder Kouzuki said as he closed the storybook in front of the blonde baby sitting on his lap.
"Wasn't that… lovely… Ruu… kun?" he said, as his head started to relax on to the backrest of the rocking chair.
Seeing the old man fast asleep, Ruu squirmed his way off his lap and landed with a small 'off' down the floor.
The baby then turned to look to his left and right, orienting himself with the area. He then made his way out the slightly ajar door as made his way down the mansion halls. Only one goal clear on his tiny little baby head,
"Mama."

As Kanata was walking down the hallway to get something, he was suddenly met by the sight of a small blonde head crawling in front of him. Curious, the brunet decided to see what the baby was planning.
At every doorway, he noticed that Ruu would turn and attempt to reach for the handle. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes he doesn't. If it's the latter, he'd wail a short "Mama," and wait for a reaction. Getting none, he would simply move on to the next store and repeat the cycle all over again.
After the tenth door, Kanata decided that he'd had enough of the stubborn baby and made to turn towards the other direction. As he took another step, another "Mama," was heard but instead of the short, determined one, this had a sad, defeated tone. Exhaustion obviously taking its toll on to the baby.
Sighing, the brunet turned and walked towards the near-to-tears baby sitting defeatedly in the middle of the hallway.
"Hey," Kanata said, making the baby turn to look up to him.
Seeing who his companion was, Ruu roughly dried his eyes and turned away from the tall brunet behind him.
More amused than annoyed with the attitude of the kid, Kanata decided to plop himself down and sit beside the sulking child.
"I know you miss her," the brunet started, not caring whether the kid could understand him or not. "I do too," his subconscious suddenly added. "But sulking won't solve anything," he explained, as he pushed the kid's back to straighten it from its slumped form.
As if understanding the young man before him, Ruu turned to look at the brunet beside him, his eyes less vicious than it was before.
Seeing the baby look at him almost pleadingly, Kanata couldn't help but think how alike his maid is with the child in front of him. "He will truly pass as Miyu's son," he said, amused at the thought.
"It has been a while since I've last seen her," Kanata said, as he looked up to the ceiling. "Kouzuki's gonna hate me for this."
"Do you want to visit your Mama?" the brunet asked the baby beside him, his hand ruffling his head in silent defeat.
Immediately, the baby's blonde eyes widened in understanding, as he pushed himself up his chubby little feet and walked closer to Kanata, his hand resting on the brunet's still taller shoulders. "Mama! Mama!" he chanted, as he bounced on his legs.
The young man couldn't help but give out an amused sigh, "Alright. But first,"

"Mama! Mama!" a small voice said, effectively bringing Miyu back from Lalaland. She then felt two small hands touching her cheeks, making her open her eyes slowly.
She was met by the sight of two worried blue eyes staring back at her, tears brimming on his eyes from his obvious upset.
"Ruu-kun," she said sweetly, as she brushed some of his blonde hair away from his mask-covered face. The baby immediately relaxed, eyes squinting from the obvious smile from the contact.
"I'm sorry that Mama had to leave you all alone today," she apologized to the infant in front of her. "But you she's still not well enough to play with you," she explained, knowing that the child would understand in one way or another.
The baby couldn't help but pout at her words, but did not put up a fight despite this. Ruu slowly nodded his head in acknowledgment, earning him another affectionate ruffle on the head. Wanting more of his mother's touch, the baby made to crawl closer to the sick blonde, which made the latter automatically retreat.
"Sorry, Ruu-kun, but Mama wouldn't want you to catch her fever," she said as she tried to move further away from the baby.
As if answering her cry for help, a pair of hands suddenly lifted the baby away from her face. Miyu turned and was greeted by the sight of her young master, awkwardly holding the baby away from her face.
"M-Master Kanata?!" Miyu exclaimed, becoming more self-conscious with how she looks after resting the whole day. She subconsciously made to brush her hair to get it in order.
"He wanted to see you," Kanata explained, as he settled the frowning baby more comfortably in his arms. "How are you feeling?" he asked as he turned to look at the blushing girl in front of him. "Probably from the fever," he reasoned.
"A bit better," Miyu said, as she tried to sit up, but was promptly pushed back by the brunet.
"You should rest some more. Your fever still isn't completely gone," he lightly lectured her, as he stood back to his place beside her bed.
Miyu couldn't help but stare at the young man in front of her. Seeing her young master again after a long time made her realize that she hasn't been around him in the longest time. And in fact, missed him despite being just a few feet away from each other.
"I've been around him but I haven't really got the chance to be with him," she thought guiltily.
Mustering enough courage, the blonde suddenly spoke. "I'm sorry for being unable to tend to you, young master," Miyu said as she looked straight at the surprised eyes of the brunet.
Recovering from his shock from her apology, Kanata quickly turned to look at anything else but her face. "You had more pressing matters to attend to," he said diplomatically – although knowing the brunet for as long as she has, she felt a bit of sulking in his tone.
"Still, I am sorry," Miyu said again, as she tilted her head in apology.
Earning nothing but silence from the young man, she new that her apology was accepted. "I'll treat him to something nice once I get better," she said determinedly as she giggled to herself.
"Daa!" the voice of the squirming baby said, removing the two from their own little worlds.
Miyu blinked, realizing that they were the only three occupants in the room. Miyu couldn't help but ask the brunet, "Were you the one who brought Ruu-kun here, young master?" she asked, a bit new to the idea of the brunet caring for the child.
The brunet looked at her, then sighed in defeat, "He was searching every room for you. Just felt that the kid needed a hand," he explained, trying his best to keep his explanation short and not so sweet… which proved to be ineffective considering the big smile on the blonde's face.
"Aww…. Ruu-kun, you've made a friend!" Miyu cooed at the two men in front of her.
.
..
…
"Daa/No way!" the two yelled in denial, unaccepting for their new relationship.
But their protests were ignored though, by the still laughing blonde on her bed.

The elder Kouzuki chuckled, amused by just how lively the house becomes whenever the two - now three, get together.
"I guess I'll just schedule my great grandfather-great grandson bonding some other time," he explained, as he listened on to the three.
- Chapter 24 End-
A/N: Sorry if there are any mistakes. I didn't review this chapter to be honest so heads up that I might have to edit this sometime in the near future.
No excuses. Inspiration didn't hit and I was too invested in reading other fanfics + work that I just didn't have time to sit down and type. But… half of this chapter was written from 9pm – 12mn, so I got hit pretty bad tonight.
I think I'm going to enjoy baby Ruu's cuteness. Love writing every bit of it. I hope you loved reading every bit of it too. :)
And if you've noticed, I purposely didn't make Ruu call Kanata 'Papa' here since he's still getting used to him. But rest assured, I'll add a few more fluff father-son moments here and there to make it happen.
Love it? Hate it? Getting tired of it?
