Susan sat in silence for what felt like a good long while. It was long enough, she knew, for her tears to dry to her cheeks and for her heart to return to a steady beat. And then she looked around at her prison. She reached out to touch a stone, and when she did words appeared on it. It read jealousy. She recoiled as though burned, and a way, she was. But she knew deep in her heart of hearts that she had to tear the walls down. And she knew also that she wanted to. Because what sort of existence was this? Safe but shallow. Skin deep and selfish, always seeing but never feeling. She would be brave, she decided in her mind and consequently in her heart.

And so she pushed at the stone that told her she was jealous and it fell. She touched another that read nonbeliever and pulled it away. Coward, vain, narcissistic, and weak all toppled and where they hit the ground they sank into it, slowly turning to nothing. Susan kicked at the stones now, breaking them and bringing her cage to the ground.

She stood among fading wreckage and breathed wide horizon air, filling her lungs fully for the first time in a long time.

A/N: I know it's short, but I needed to finish Susan's bit of the story before moving on to Lucy and Caspian. Their part is almost done so watch out :)
