Chapter 26: Graduation

The sun shone inside of the hotel room. Maka groaned while she turned so the rays of the sun wouldn't hit her face. Her eyes fluttered open and she came face to face with the wide grin of Soul Evans, and his very naked chest.

"Good morning beautiful," he said while his hands snaked up her thigh until it lay gently of the curve of her hip.

Maka smiled wide. "Good morning." Soul leaned toward her and kissed her gently.

"Man, I could get used to waking up to you naked. It isn't a bad sight." He said and Maka blushed wide, her eyes wandered down his naked chest and stopped at the covers which covered the area of his rod.

"The same goes for you." Maka said and blushed madly. She hadn't quite yet grown used to flirting like this about naked bodies. It's still very new to her and she didn't really have the confidence for these kinds of stuff.

Soul moved closer to Maka and pulled her close to him. Their naked bodies were flushed against each other's and Maka felt a little embarrassed when she felt Soul's crutch against hers. They'd sex before but she's still very embarrassed when she sees Soul's most intimate part but deep inside of her she loves seeing and feeling it. That's the part of her Soul always seems to bring out of her when they're intimate.

"How does it feel? You're going to graduate in just a couple of hours." Soul said while he kissed her neck.

"It feels weird. It feels like I just started high school and now it's over." Maka said while she trailed her finger along the scar on his chest which always got Soul to shiver.

"I know what you mean. It always feels weird to graduate." Soul confessed and they stayed like that, holding each other.

"Soul," She said and he made a sound which meant he's all ears. "Do you believe in soulmates?"

"Yes I do. You know I write songs about soulmates. I believe in it very much."

"Do you think we're soulmates?"

Soul smiled wide and looked down at his girlfriend. "Without a doubt. I know you're my soulmate. It's always been you and you only. Only you got me to feel like this and got me to want to be a better person for you." Soul rested his forehead on hers. "What about you? Do you believe in soulmates?"

Maka nodded. "Yeah, I do. I knew my parents were soulmates but I never thought I'd find mine. It seemed too impossible to find that single one on the whole planet which would be mine." Maka smiled wide. "But I did. I really did."

Soul's heart fluttered and he felt the need of sharing his love with her. He loves this woman so much and he doesn't know any other way of showing it. He'd to give his body to her to show her just how much he loves her.

His lips descended on hers and they kissed passionately. They shared the passion and Maka understood exactly what it's leading to. She didn't want to stop him. She wants this as much as he does.

"You can't go saying such sweet words. I can't contain myself." Soul said through their kisses.

"Then don't." Maka said. She pulled the covers over them while Soul reached for the condom package.

Maka looked around at the large group of people. She arrived outside of Shibusen where she'd meet up with both Soul and Tsubaki. Her father stood beside her and his eyes were teary. "I knew this day would come and I couldn't be more proud of you." He said smiling toward his daughter. "You've accomplished a lot and me and your mother couldn't be more proud over you."

She smiled wide. "Really?"

"Really." He smiled back toward her.

"Papa, are you okay with me going touring and taking online classes?" Maka asked. He'd told him about her plans when she changed into her graduation robe.

"Of course I don't really like the idea. I don't really like the idea of you moving out of my house. You're still my baby girl but you're a grown-up woman and I think if you want to go with Soul and take online classes then I'm going to support your decision." Spirit said truthfully. "The only thing I want is for you to call me once in a while and whenever you're in the neighborhood I want you to visit me. It's not like I don't want to see you ever again. You're my daughter and I want to still see you once in a while."

Maka wrapped her arms around her father and hugged him tightly. "I appreciate it you're supportive toward my relationship with Soul. I wouldn't ever go without talking to you papa. I'll visit you as many times as I can. I promise."

Spirit smiled wide and hugged Maka back. The hug lasted for a couple of seconds before they pulled away. They quickly found Tsubaki and Kilik but Soul and Black*Star was nowhere to be found.

"Maka!" Tsubaki smiled and walked up to her, pulling her into a hug. "Don't worry about Soul, he's with Black*Star. They'll join us when the ceremony starts." She whispered into her ear and smiled wide.

Maka cocked her eyebrow and looked confused at her friend but she didn't say anything. They all greeted each other and walked toward the giant hall where rows after rows of chairs were placed. Maka was about to take a seat in the back but Tsubaki grabbed her wrist. "No, I want to sit at the front!" Tsubaki smiled and dragged her toward the front. There were three seats for them. Spirit stood in the back and would be watching the show.

Beside Maka was one empty seat which she saved for Soul. It didn't take long until Soul found them and took the seat beside me. It was hard not to grab his hand or kiss him when she saw him. She really wanted to touch him but she knew she couldn't. Their kiss at prom had been a risk and kissing here would be a dead giveaway.

The ceremony started with the headmaster holding a speech before it was the students' time. Maka knew she'd be the last one to hold her speech since she's an honor student and would represent the whole senior student body. She's nervous and when it was her turn, she walked with heavy step up on stage and looked nervously over the full room of people.

Her eyes met Spirit's and he nodded toward her, as in giving her courage to speak in front of the student. Maka isn't that good of a speaker. She gave her speak while she glanced toward Soul who grinned wide toward her.

It wasn't a good speech in her mind, but the crowd seemed to like it for some reason. They all applauded except Kim and Jacqueline. Maka bowed and walked off stage.

"Great speech Maka." Soul said and Maka smiled wide toward him.

"Thank you."

Kilik glared toward Soul and he didn't like how friendly they'd become over the few days they'd known each other.

"Yeah, your speech was great as usually." Kilik said and received a smile back and a "thank you." What bothered him was Maka wasn't as happy as she was when she looked at Alec. Her eyes didn't sparkle in that special way when she looks at him. What has Alec that Kilik doesn't?

The headmaster started to call up the same of each and every one of the students to get their high school diploma. One after another went up on stage, Maka saw each and every one of her classmates go up on stage and shake their hand with the headmaster. Her hands started to get tired of all the clapping for her classmates but she refused to stop, she's very proud of all of them and she needs to keep applauding for them.

"Maka Albarn, our top student." The headmaster said and Maka got up from her seat and walked toward the stage. She received plenty of applauds when she walked up on the stage. She looked over the audience and she noticed Soul was gone. He wasn't in his seat next to her empty one. She tried to wipe the confusion off her face while she thanked the headmaster and grabbed her diploma after she shook his head.

"And now we've a surprise for all of you seniors of Shibusen." The headmaster said while Maka started to walk off the stage. "Maka, you're going to stay on stage." Maka stopped walking and looked toward the headmaster confused.

In front of the podium buff men started to carry fences in front of the stage before they stood in front of the stage to guard it. Something is going on which Maka doesn't know about.

A man then walked up to her and gave her a seat to sit in while the headmaster continued to talk. "We're going to have a very special guest wrapping the graduation up. So I ask all of you to stay in your seats." The headmaster wrapped up and walked off stage.

The stage had completely changed. The rostrum was gone and replaced with a microphone stand with a microphone in it. Behind it were various different instruments as, bass, drums a guitarist, another microphone and a piano. She recognized the mix of instruments but she refused to believe it. Eaters weren't going to perform, only Soul and maybe Black*Star were here! The others were still gone wherever they were.

Maka was proven wrong when Soul walked up on stage and smiled toward the others. She immediately saw his red eyes instead of blue of his contacts. The fake teeth were also gone and Maka wondered what he's exactly going to do.

He walked up to the microphone and grabbed it. "Hey, this song goes to a very special person." Soul said and Maka couldn't help but think it's her. "I haven't ever played this song so this'll be the first time it's played. I hope you like it." Soul said with his southern accent. He turned on his heel and walked to the piano and put the microphone into the stand. His fingers ran over the keys before he struck the first note.

As soon as he started to play the piano she recognized it being the melody he played for her inside of the piano room. It's the simple and beautiful one which Maka chose.

When the first note was struck four figures in graduation robes walked up on stage but Maka recognized them all. Black*Star's crazy blue hair and Kid's hair with white strips, even Liz's long beautiful hair and Patty's short and perfect blond hair. All of the members of Eater are here.

Soul dropped the southern accent and started to sing like usual. Immediately he received gasps and shouts from the audience.

While the audience screamed out "Eaters" and "Soul!" Soul ripped off his graduation robe along with his graduation hat along with the wig. His white wild hair was let lose for the crowd to see and his red eyes glittered in the spot light. The piano in the background took over so Soul stood up from the piano bench and started to sing his heart out.

Seeing Soul on stage like this is a proof the Soul she saw a year ago and all those years before that has been replaced with a new Soul. Before Soul'd the stage language had been good and she didn't see his hatred for the stage or the music or the fame. Now, Soul's really smiling, flashing his sharp teeth to the crowd. The spark in his eyes twinkles brighter than ever before and she sees the happiness vibrate off of him. Soul has never before shine this bright on stage.

Soul turned toward Maka while he sang. He started to walk toward her and he never broke the eye contact with her. He sang his heart out like he never did before; he wants to expose his heart and soul for her because he's in love with her and he's an Evans, music is his specialty and he's always been better with music than with words. Singing her this song is the best way he can show her he love her.

He offered her his hand like he'd planned and she grabbed it without doubting. Their eyes were still locked and the song turned soft. Soul's voice turned softer than cotton while he brought her toward the end of the stage. All the students screamed out his name and tried to reach him. The students had gotten up from their seats and were currently pressing themselves on the safety fence. The guards tried to push them back a little.

The albino singer leaned closer to Maka while he sang the last parts. Their foreheads were touching while he sang the line. The music faded and the crowd roared while they applauded.

"Maka Albarn," Soul said into the microphone, not backing away from her. "From day one you drove me crazy in more ways than one." He caressed her hand with his thumb. "I wrote this song to you to ask you this question in the coolest way possible." Soul flashed his smile but she could see he's nervous. "Maka Albarn; will you officially be my girlfriend?"

Maka's heart stopped. In her mind she was already his girlfriend but they never made it official to the public. The thought of her being officially his girlfriend made her stomach flutter and her smile to widen.

"Of course you dummy." She said and they both smiled before Soul leaned toward her and caught her lips. The audience screamed out cheers and some screamed out their sorrow and despair for Soul's single life being over; and they weren't his girlfriend.

Their lips parted and Maka saw her friend in the corner of her eyes. Her eyes wandered toward the crowd and her eyes locked on her male best friend. He looked heartbroken and Maka's the reason for his pain. She realized she'd just broken his heart right in front of his face. He didn't know about Soul, he's the only one who didn't know about Soul's disguise.

Kilik broke eye contact with Kilik and got up from his seat and started to walk away. Maka suddenly felt the urge to follow him, she hurt him and she needs to set things straight between them.

"Kilik!" Maka yelled and started to jog away from the stage. "Kilik! Wait up!" Maka found the stairs down from the stage and immediately got down but the fence and the other crazy students were blocking her way from him. "Kilik! Wait!" She screamed after him. Her eyes started to turn watery because of the betrayal she'd done toward Kilik.

Maka climbed over the fence and pushed through the crowd of people. Her eyes were glued to the back of Kilik's graduation robe. She wouldn't take her eyes off of him.

She managed to get pass the sea of students and she saw Kilik walking out of the building. She followed him out and found him throwing the graduation cap on the ground while he kept walking.

"Kilik!" Maka screamed and ran up to him. "Kilik! I'm so sorry!" She yelled and the tears trickled down her face.

He turned toward Maka with water lines underneath his eyes.

Maka turned shocked at the view of her friend crying. "Listen Kilik, I was going to tell you but I didn't know how to tell you! You weren't supposed to find it out that way!"

"You were the one who did those hickies on his neck." Kilik said which caught Maka off guard. "It all makes sense now. How you and him got so close in such short period of time. Why our date got interrupted and― and why you didn't return any of my calls. It's because you were busy sleeping with him and marking him." Kilik wiped away the tears underneath his eyes. "You were never going to go to the same college as me, weren't you?"

Maka sighed. "I'm sorry. Soul wants me to come with him and I could take online classes. I'm so sorry Kilik. I never wanted to hurt you." Her tears trickled down her face while she watched her friend being in pain because of her. "I'm so sorry Kilik, I wished I could make it better but I can't. I should've told you but I didn't. There're no words to describe how sorry I am."

Kilik shook his head. "You don't need to say anything. I get it. You're in love with him and never would there be any we between us." His eyes turned cold and he gave her his back. "Don't call me. I need to be alone."

Kilik started to walk away. "Wait Kilik!" She grabbed his sleeve of his graduation robe, succeeding him from walking away. "I'm going to leave early Monday, please; I want to see you one last time. I don't want us to part this way." Maka begged him while her tears increased. "Please, be there."

"Goodbye Maka." Kilik said and ripped his sleeve from her grasp.

Maka was left there, all alone with the burden of crushing her best friend's heart. She knew he won't forgive her for this and it's now over between them. She shattered their friendship and now she won't see her best friend ever again. He won't want to see her ever again.

What a great graduation this turned out to be, one relationship had to be shattered for the other to blossom.
