A/N: Here's another chapter! It's a super long one, but I'm excited to get back in the swing of things. As promised, it didn't take me months to post another chapter. My life is really busy, so please just hang in there with me. I promise I'm going to finish this story.

Tris POV

The past couple of days have been super busy. Christina finally set a date for her wedding. She decided to wait until initiation is over to have her wedding. Now I'm under a lot of pressure to plan her bachelorette party. On top of that, we started phase two of initiation yesterday.

Tobias administered the tests while Christina and I carried the initiates back to the dorms. It was slightly awkward carrying the Dauntless borns back, but it was even more awkward with the transfers. Where the Dauntless borns just allowed their emotions to take over, the transfers tried to hide their reactions from us. Of course that only increased their anxiety, and by the time we got them to the dorms, they were hysterical.

Today I'm administering the tests. The first initiate is one of the Dauntless borns. He sits down and I inject him. His fear is heights. It's odd that a child who grew up in a place that is full of heights would be so terrified of them. After he comes to, he takes a few calming breaths before heading out the door. The next initiate is one of mine. It's Lexy, the girl from Abnegation who surprisingly won all but on of her fights. She is currently pretty high on the list, so unless she utterly bombs phases two and three, she will be in, easily. As she's getting herself settled, I pull up her file and notice her time from yesterday: 3 minutes. Immediately my mind jumps to one conclusion. She's Divergent.

"Your time from yesterday is pretty impressive," I say as I get the needle ready.

She shrugs. "I just have a really good head on my shoulders, I guess." I nod and inject her.

"Good luck, Lexy."

I look at the screen and watch as her fear materializes. She's standing by the train and all the initiates and Christina and I are standing behind her. At her feet clothes and other belongings lay thrown in the gravel. She looks up as a train comes closer. When it reaches the roof, the train stops and the only open car is stuffed with people dressed in torn and dirty clothing: the factionless. At the front of the car a man and a woman stand with open arms. When you look closer you might notice that the woman has Lexy's hair and nose, and that the man's eyes and smile are copies of Lexy's. These are Lexy's parents. I'm a little confused by the scene until Christina speaks up.

"Lexy, you failed initiation, as a result you will now live with the factionless."

Lexy has a panicked look in her eyes as she glances between the train and the crowd behind her.

"No, I'm good! I passed everything! I can't live with them; don't make me live them!"

She tries to protest further, but the other me begins pushing her towards the train. Her parents jump out and motion to pull her towards them. Just as her father grasps her arm, Lexy becomes a flurry of movement. She pushes me off and then moves towards her parents. She pushes them to the ground. She then takes off across the roof, but she's soon stopped by a fence. She looks around for another option, but there is none. I get ready for her to wake up, figuring she'll just calm her heart rate in a minute, but she's still doing something. She grasps two bars of the fence and motions as if to separate them. To my surprise the bars yield and she takes off running through the gap she just made.

She suddenly jots up in her seat and I begin to detach my wires. I glance at her time: four and a half minutes. She's Divergent and her simulation further proves that fact. I quickly pull up the data from her simulation and manually enter that she simply stood and calmed herself after she hit the fence. I then turn to her.

"Come with me," I say and then walk towards the back door. I look down the hallway and note that Tobias and Christina still haven't returned. I then walk down to a maintenance room and pull Lexy in with me. The noise in here will drown out our conversation and there are no cameras. After Lexy shuts the door I turn and face her.

"You're Divergent," I state with a straight face.

Her face shows a brief moment of panic before she hides it again. "No I'm not," she retorts.

"Lexy, it's okay, I'm Divergent too. I know how you're feeling."

Lexy nods and looks at her feet. "Now what?"

"We can't talk about it just anywhere. Why don't you come by my apartment after dinner, we can talk then, okay?"

She nods. I then grab her hand and we walk back to the examination room. Just as we get back, Tobias and Christina round the corner.

"Hey Six, is she done already?" Christina asks.

"Yep, she's a natural."

Tobias looks at me. "Looks like you have a prodigy," he says. I know what he's saying; he knows she's Divergent.

After Lexy, the rest of the day goes normally. Although one of the other kids got out pretty fast, nothing looked suspicious and he didn't even come close to Lexy's time. At the end of the day, Christina goes off to see Will in his office. Tobias takes my hand and we walk back towards my apartment.

"You know this is the first time we've spent time together in a while. You've been kind of distant lately," I point out.

He nods. "I know, I guess I've just been kind of busy. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. We both need space from time to time."

He laughs. "It's usually you who needs space from me after I do something stupid."

I laugh remembering the day after we first kissed and the day he told me loved me. "Yeah, well, we always come back."

He nods and squeezes my hand. "So Lexy…she's like you?"

"Yep, she's going to come over and talk after dinner."

He nods. "Well, I'll leave you to it…just be careful okay?" he asks as he looks into my eyes.

I nod and he leans in and gives me a kiss. However, we are interrupted by someone clearing their throat. We pull apart and I see Lexy standing there with smirk.

"I'll…uh…se you later, Six," Tobias says before he steps into his apartment.

"He lives next to you?" Lexy asks. I nod and we go into my apartment. "I totally knew you guys were together," Lexy continues as she flops on my couch, "I mean Kaytlyn was convinced she had a chance with him, but I knew you guys had a thing."

"Wait, Kaytlyn likes Four?" I ask.

She nods. "And because she likes him, Alisha and Vera like him too."

"Wow, I'll have to let him know."

"You're not mad?"

"What is there to be mad about? I know where I stand with him, and he knows I can hurt him."

She laughs. "So, why am I here?"

I hold up my finger as I lean over and turn on some music. Hopefully that will cover up most of our conversation.
"You're Divergent," I state. She nods. "What were your test results?" I ask.

"Dauntless, Abnegation, and Candor."

"The person who administered your test manually changed your results, didn't she?"

Lexy nods, but then looks at me. "How did you know it was a she?"

"She was Tori from Dauntless right?" She nods. "I her for my test, too," I explain, "She has a story, but I'll let her share that with you."

"You're really Divergent?"

"Yeah"

"So what do I need to do to hide it better? Do I need to hide it from Four and Chris?"

"As to your first question, just try to avoid doing abnormal things in your landscape. At least for now, it won't matter in phase three. As to your second question, don't worry about Four, but Chris doesn't need to know."

She nods. "So bending the bars is probably something I want to avoid?"

"You got it." There is a long pause before I speak up again. "So…you're afraid of failing initiation?" She nods, "because you don't want to be factionless?" She nods again, "because you don't want to live with your parents?"

Her head shoots up. "How did you know that?"

"You look just like them," I respond.

She shrugs. "I've only ever seen pictures…" she pauses as if that's all she's going to say, but then she continues. "When I was a baby, my parents neglected me. My father spent all his time at work, and my mother never wanted to have a baby. So one day she went out. After she had been gone for four hours, I started crying. One of the neighbors came over to see what was going on. She quickly figured out the situation and reported my parents. My parents were sent to be factionless and I was taken in by the woman who found me. She and her husband couldn't have children, so I became their daughter.

"My new mother gave me a picture of my birth parents and raised me with the knowledge of who they were. When I was ten we went out on a school field trip to feed the factionless and I recognized on of the women: my mother. She came towards me and embraced me. Then she started pulling on my arm. I yelled for the teacher. Soon some Dauntless police pulled her off of me. It was terrible. She kept screaming out, 'That's my daughter. Give her back!' After that I knew I had to leave Abnegation." When she finishes her story she looks down.

"Why'd you choose Dauntless?" I ask.

She shrugs. "After the incident, I always looked up to the Dauntless. I wanted to be able to protect others too."

I smile and put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry you're going to make it."

"How do you know?"

"Because you understand what it means to be Dauntless."

A/N: That was a really long chapter, but I really like it. I know I used to word "nod" a lot, but you'll ust have to live with it. I hope you enjoy. Until next time.
