*Every time I say that I do not own InuYasha or any of its characters the nice lawyers give me a cookie*

Not Everything Makes Them Laugh:

Kagome watch Sesshomaru slowly make his way to her throne… she was surprised to see a light in his eyes that she had never seen before. His eyes normally a cold golden color were now a warm honey color, in that moment they were beautiful. (Sesshomaru's eyes have always been beautiful…stupid Kagome!)Instead of stopping at her feet Sesshomaru walked until he was standing before Shippo who was sitting on Kagome's right side.

"Young Lord Shippo this Sesshomaru has brought you a gift from the Western Lands. This Sesshomaru acknowledges your mother and yourself as the rightful rulers of the Southern Lands." Sesshomaru said before placing the box at Shippo's feet and bowing his head.

Shippo gaped at Lord Sesshomaru…where was the demon that had more than once tried to kill them? Shippo could not wrap his mind around this new Lord Sesshomaru. The fur on the back of his neck stood and he tried not to let out a whimper…

Kagome watch her little kit and tried not to laugh. The poor little thing was completely scared…maybe she should step in before Shippo ran from the room screaming in terror.

"Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands, we thank you for the gift. We also acknowledge your rule over the Western Lands and wish your lands life and prosperity." Kagome said returning his bow and once more returning her gaze to the room. She could not ignore her other guests no matter who they were…

"If I may be so bold…how is it that you became Lord of the Southern Lands?" Miroku asked breaking Kagome from Sesshomaru's stare.

"Long story short…I beat Lord Sharaku who was ruler at the time and the people of the south asked me to rule and so here I am." Kagome said smiling at Miroku who in turn smiled back.

Miroku was not surprised that the people would want Kagome as their leader. She was kind and generous and he could already see her magic working on the people…opening up their hearts to a different way to live. As he had walked through the villages he could see smiles on everyone faces…it was a beautiful sight to see and it was all thanks to the beautiful, sexy woman sitting on the throne in front of him…man she just turned him on.

The demons that wanted to mate Kagome in the room quickly turned to Miroku and let out a growl…come on they could all smell what he was thinking and while they too have had their fantasies about Kagome…they all refused to do it with her in the room…

Kagome watched the going on in the room and let out a chuckle…maybe Akaru-Hime was right and there were others out there that would love to be with her forever…it was in that moment that Kagome finally broke completely free from her first love…and she decided that she would give each suitor a chance.

"My son, why don't you go ahead and open the gift that Lord Sesshomaru has given you." Kagome said to Shippo, who was staring at all the people and trying to figure out just what the heck was going on…maybe something in the water?

Shippo turned to his mommy and smiled…he knew that no matter what happened she would always protect him. Shippo then jumped from his mini throne and rushed to the box that Sesshomaru and placed before him. With gentle hands Shippo lifted the lid of the box and let out a squeal of joy. Very carefully Shippo picked up his new treasure and held it to his chest and then he turned to his mommy and showed her his present.

"My goodness! Is that a sling shot? Haha wow I have not seen one of those since I was a kid." Kagome said clutching her sides in her laughter. She could only imagine what kind of mischief Shippo could get into with one of those. She could just see InuYasha yelling at Shippo as acorns pelted him in the head…that was something Kagome would love to see.

Almost like Shippo was reading Kagome's mind he loaded one of his magic acorns into the sling shot, pulled back the cord and let it fly… the acorn zoomed through the air until it nailed Koga right between the eyes.

Silence filled the room and all eyes turned to Koga…waiting to see what he would do to the young fox demon.

Koga crossed his eyes and tried to see the bright red spot where the acorn had hit him, making Kagome and Shippo laugh at him. After several tense seconds Koga let out a loud barking laugh.

"Hey Shippo that was a nice shot…but next time aim for mutt face that would be even funnier." Koga said through his laughter.

"What the hell do you mean wolf?" InuYasha said as he stood up and walked over to Koga. InuYasha shook his fist at Koga and let out a growl.

Before anything could happen between the brash young canine demons the guards stepped towards them and pulled out their weapons.

"There will be no fighting in the royal chambers. If you need to prove that you are both tough then take it to the dojo." Kagome said with as stern voice. She would not allow them to mess up her new home.

Koga lowered his head in shame…he could not believe that he was scowled by the love of his life and in front of not only his enemy but also in front of the stuck up Lord Sesshomaru. It made him want to blush in embarrassment.

Kagome waved her hand, giving her servants the signal that it was now time to show each guest to the rooms.

Kinkaku walked briskly through the hall not looking back to make sure that his Lady's guests were following, after all Lady Kagome had a rule about meal times…if you are late you do not eat. And the meal would be served in less than ten minutes…and while his Lady was gentle by nature he found out quickly that if you made her angry then you better be ready to duck. He did not want to repeat how he learned that lesson!

Within moments Kinkaku opened the door to the dining room and held it open motioning his Lady's guests to walk into the room. After they had all entered Kinkaku closed the door and led each one to their seats. It was then Kinkaku noticed that the Goddess Kagetsu and her party were already seated and waiting for the meal to be served. That Goddess Kagetsu had such beautiful manners Kinkaku thought to himself and then he turned for the table and walked out the doors so that he too could eat his meal.

The guests in the room looked at each other…none wanting to break the tension in the room. But silence was never the strong suit of one half dog demon and neither was class.

"Yo who the fuck are you?" The said half dog demon asked staring at the side where Kagetsu, Nobara and Shikaku sat.

"Like you need to know you bastard half bitch." Nobara said as she stood up…she would not allow that half bitch to hurt the only friend she had ever made…she would protect Kagetsu.

Almost everyone in the room rolled their eyes and sighed, however three individuals did not seem to be affected by the growls and snarls in the room but rather sat blank faced and in complete silence.

Sesshomaru looked at the two others that acted so much like himself…one he noticed was the void demon Kanna and the other was a stranger…one that looked oddly familiar to him.

"Anrui…?" Sesshomaru whispered…drawing the attention of the room to himself. There was no way that it could be Anrui…she had been human!

Kagetsu ignored the dog demon lord and continued to let her mind wonder…it would do no good to get into this conversation. The past was the past and nothing could change it… (Unless you are a time traveling miko with a powerful jewel stuck in her side.)

The rest of the guests stared at Lord Sesshomaru…just what the hell was going on?

Kagome walked to her chambers…dinner had been interesting. She never would have guessed that having so many people at one table could create such chaos. Just thinking about it made her reach up into her hair and try to remove the mash potatoes that had been served at the evening meal. What was it with canine demons? Did they always have to try to one up each other? It had all started when Nobara had thrown a chicken leg at Koga nailing him in the head. It had all gone downhill from there…the next thing Kagome knew everyone was throwing food…well Kanna, Goddess Kagetsu and Lord Sesshomaru had just continued eating ignoring the chaos around them, not saying a word…how was it that they had not ended up wearing the food like everyone else? It would be a nice thing to learn Kagome thought to herself. Just as a smile began to form on Kagome's face, she felt a pulse. It was the same pulse Kagome got when a jewel shard was nearby…why had she not noticed it before. Following the feeling Kagome began to speed walk. She did not want to draw attention to herself. There were many that wanted to jewel for their own. If she could just somehow complete the jewel and make her wish then she would be done with the stupid quest and maybe just maybe the well would open and she could see her family again. With thoughts swirling in her mind Kagome made her way to the jewel shard. It was not until she was standing outside of her personal weapons vault that she realized what had happened.

"The guards must have taken the jewel shards from Naraku and from Koga." Kagome whispered to herself. She wanted to weep. With the shards from them and the shards that her people had brought her over the last several weeks…the jewel of four souls would almost whole. The only shard remaining would Kohaku's. How would she remove the shard without killing him? Kagome shook her head, now what not the time to be thinking about such things. The jewel was calling to her! Kagome walked into the vault and walked to where she could see the darkness that surrounded the jewel. Yep those had to be Naraku's no one else could make the jewel be so black from the darkness of their souls. Just thinking about it made Kagome shudder. Quickly she picked up the jewel and pushed her powers into it making it the pink it was meant to be.

The Goddess Kagetsu stood outside Kagome's personal weapons vault waiting. There were many things that she had to tell Kagome and she was actually afraid that if she did not tell her now, then she would never tell her. She had kept so many secrets…so very many of them that they ate at her soul. This whole thing was her fault. She needed to make everything right; even it meant laying her soul bare for all to see.

Just as The Goddess Kagetsu was about to give up for the night Kagome walked out of the vault, smiling to herself and staring at her hands.

"Lady Kagome, this one must speak with you." The Goddess Kagetsu said causing Kagome to jump in surprise and turning around quickly.

"Oh my gods…you scared the heck out of me Kagetsu." Kagome said bringing her hand to her rapidly beating heart.

Kagetsu raised an eyebrow almost stunned by Kagome's lack of formal speech. However Kagetsu had been around Nobara enough to not let it bother her.

"This one simply wishes to speak with you that is all. Nothing more and nothing less." Kagetsu said.

Kagome nodded her heart and told Kagetsu to follow her…she did not want to keep walking around the palace with such a large section of the jewel. She did not want to take any chances now that the jewel was soon to be completed.

Kagome led Kagetsu to her bed chambers and asked Kagetsu to come in. Once she knew that Kagetsu would indeed follow her into her room she walked to the picture on the wall. With a quick flick of her wrist the picture vanished and a small vault appeared, quickly Kagome opened the vault and put the jewel inside. Kagome returned everything to the way it was and once more faced Kagetsu who had not spoken a word since they began to walk.

"Okay Goddess Kagetsu what is it that you wished to speak to me about?" Kagome asked as she motioned for Kagetsu to take a seat at the small table that was in the corner of the room. Kagetsu walked over and took a seat… waiting for Kagome to join her.

Once Kagome and Kagetsu were comfortable Kagetsu began to speak.

"Did Akaru-Hime explain what happened to you?" Kagetsu asked

Kagome shook her and leaned forward in her chair.

Kagetsu sighed…this was going to take longer than she had thought. She forced herself to push back the frustration and self-loathing and finally opened her mouth to speak.

"Lady Kagome, you are now known as a created goddess…a goddess not born from a goddess but rather a mortal whom has become a god. When you pushed your miko abilities like you did, you forced your powers to change and by doing so you also crafted a body to house those new powers. That is why not only has your outer appearance changed but so has your inner appearance. You have the mark of the gods upon your body…that shows the world that you are one of the few to make such a change. Most go insane from it. Killing and Killing until the gods must step in and stop them. However, the reasons for the gods allowing such a change have not yet been explained to you…this one is under strict orders. This one cannot tell you why or how, but know this…this one will step in for Akaru-Hime. This one will take her place and be your friend until this one is no longer needed." Kagetsu said and without so much as a good bye Kagetsu walked to the door and let herself out. She heard Kagome's voice deep from within the chamber telling her that she must stay for the next couple of days just in case she had any questions. She did not reply nor did she turn back and she did not head to the chambers that Kagome had given her…instead she headed to the garden, the feelings from nature had always made Kagetsu feel better and right now she really needed that.

Author's Corner:

I have been meaning to explain about Nobara, Kagetsu and Shikaku. Nobara is actually based off of my personality and Kagetsu is based off of Midnight. Shikaku is somewhat based of a friend of mine. So most of what they do is something that we would do in real life…making the story much more real for me and easier to write.
