Heh heh, don't worry. This won't be your run of the mill BS legendary power up. Some things will play out in which certain characters won't expect it.
Goku did instantly transmit to Paragus' general location, but so as to not appear uninvited, he winked into existence a small distance from the Saiyan warrior's home. He could sense the man in question's energy signature from what he remembered when he met him nearly ten years ago in his own timeline. But besides Paragus', he could sense two other signatures. One that felt a lot like Broly's and someone else's, who was similar but somewhat different.
"Both of his parents must be home," Goku muttered in thought, a bit disappointed that it wasn't just Paragus himself. It'd probably be a bit taxing to have to explain anything about his situation with anyone who wasn't a scientist.
"He used the term loosely, however. Who's to say Paragus would even find anything credible about Time Travel?
Although it wasn't necessarily needed, he suppressed his energy somewhat, more by instinct than anything else, as he knocked on the door that he deduced was Broly's father's.
As he waited for the door to open, Goku ran the recent events through his head as he tried to find a reasonable way to compile them into sentences.
"Hey, Mr. Paragus, you see, I'm from the future and-No that won't work..." he monologued. Come to think of it, why didn't Vegeta offer to talk to Paragus? Wasn't diplomacy and tech-speak more up the Saiyan Prince's alley? The Saiyan groaned in exasperation, unsure of even how to start.
Catching him off guard, the door swished open suddenly, revealing a woman on the other side, glaring at him. Goku still had a leg lifted and his arms positioned in a strange martial arts stance from when he was startled. Regaining his bearings and coughing to play off the embarrassment, he waved.
"Uh, hi, Is Paragus home? I wanted to speak with him."
The woman continued to glare at him for several seconds, causing Goku to avert his gaze nervously at her silence.
"Who the hell are you?" she asked abruptly, still glaring. The male Saiyan could hear the faint breeze whistling through the air as the silence began to drag on awkwardly.
How would he answer that question? He was sure he was relatively unknown, even after the Frieza incident. But everyone knew who Vegeta was, right?
"I'm a friend of Vegeta's-Woah!"
His answer was cut short by her grabbing his shoulder and pulling him into the doorway before she shut the door.
"Hey, what was that f-"
"You know Vegeta?" She demanded somewhat excitedly. This made Goku look at her a bit questioningly, not understanding why she was so interested.
"Well yeah, We're like rivals!" he answered with a shrug, finding no reason to lie. She seemed to perk up at that bit of information.
"Then that means you can also-"
"Burokori? Who's there?" a disembodied voice sounded from an adjacent room. The woman rolled her eyes at being interrupted, but decided she'd continue her line of questioning later, instead she asked Goku where he'd last seen him.
"Uh, I could tell you, but why do you want to know?" he answered, a bit confused as to why she seemed so interested in Vegeta. But then the realization hit him.
"Oh, of course, you must be itching to fight him!" he quickly amended, answering his own question, beinging his fist down to his open palm.
Burokori seemed a bit put off by his antics before rolling her eyes. "Yes."
"Well, I'm supposed to be meeting up with him by that bar place later today," he shrugged, not realizing what he'd just done.
"Paragus, some guy is here to meet you," she said aloud to the voice from earlier before stepping out the door without another word.
"Strange lady," Goku thought before returning his attention back to the person he was waiting for.
There was a small sound of papers being shuffled around until finally, a dark complexioned man stepped through the open hallway.
He looked a lot like Goku remembered, except he didn't have a scar over his right eye, but instead watched Goku in mild curiosity with two working eyes. He also looked a bit younger and wasn't sporting a mustache.
"Bardock?" he questioned aloud before shaking his head. "No you're not Bardock..." Paragus deduced. He was lacking those red cloths he would always wear.
"Right. My name's..." Goku paused only for half a second, wondering if he should use his Saiyan name. Would that build credibility in his story? No, probably not. He decided to just use his given name. "Goku," he continued. "Me and a friend were stranded here, and we thought you might be able to help us."
"I'm not Bardock, but he's my father."
The scientist grunted in thought, taking a seat on one of the oddly shaped chairs. He motioned for Goku to take a seat across from him as well, and he obliged.
"Why should I help you?" he asked bluntly, which Goku was expecting.
"Well, I can give you information," the taller Saiyan answered, leaning forward slightly in his seat. "Of the future." The idea had just came to Goku. The only real leverage he had was knowledge of what could possibly happen in this future, especially concerning Broly, if Paragus were to act as he did in his own timeline.
"What?"
"Yeah, me and the guy i'm with, we're from the future."
Instead of a show of surprise or a reaction of incredulousness, Paragus instead narrowed his eyes in thought. "You expect me to believe you're from the future?"
Goku nodded, a smile forming on his face. "Well, I know for one, that your son is the Legendary Super Saiyan," he answered calmly, finally managing to shock Paragus, who's mouth dropped a fraction. Paragus already had his suspicions, but to hear it from another Saiyan?
"What makes you think that Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan?" Paragus asked, truly curious at Goku's resolved answer.
"I've fought him," Goku replied with a smile, careful to not mention that he'd actually killed him with some help from his friends.
"Amazing," Paragus deadpanned, looking off into the distance in some kind of stupefied concentration. He refocused his gaze on Goku.
"Even though this is...interesting news, this isn't enough to convince me to help you."
Goku shrugged, not bothered in the least. "It's cool, just think about it," he said before his expression grew grim, catching Paragus off guard by how quickly he grew serious.
"On an unrelated note though, try to build a bond with your son. He's very powerful, and he'll be even more powerful when he grows up. Please raise him like a good father," Goku said seriously. "I did fight him before, but he had killed you, after you tried controlling his power," he explained, risking a chance at telling Paragus that last bit of information. Paragus was studying Goku's expression. He was quite serious. And the thought of controlling a possibly outrageous power did cross his mind, however fleetingly, but for this man in front of him to point something out like that...
"I'll think about it," the Saiyan scientist relented. "I'll be here later today as well."
Goku nodded, raising two fingers to his own forehead. "If it's alright with you then, I'll stop by then." And with that, Goku disappeared in the blink of an eye, mking Paragus wonder what kind of powers that man had.
"Tch, ridiculous. Out of all the possible things that can happen in this stupid, asinine adventure..." Vegeta grumbled irritably, slowing his descent to land on the ground in front of the palace entrance. Two guards still remained standing there at the Palace doors, watching him cautiously. No doubt they heard about the fight with Paragus' mate, whom they knew was a bit of a wild card.
Vegeta walked towards the door, displeased that the guards didn't budge.
"Move!" he ordered, prepared to crush the both of them.
To the guards' credit, they didn't look visibly shaken. "The queen has ordered us not to let you in," he answered. Although not showing any signs of fear, a drop of sweat began to collect on his forehead. They were definitely nervous, as they should be.
"Fine, if you want to fight. I'm going inside, whether you allow me to or not."
The guards didn't hesitate, only nodding once at each other before dashing towards the Saiyan Prince. Vegeta only smirked before imperceptibly sidestepping and evading both attackers. Idly, he noted their energy signatures flared the slightest bit brighter than the other guards he'd seen manned at the entrance. Were these two actually training?
Good, hopefully, they'd let him sweat a bit.
But right now wasn't the time. Maybe some other day. Immediately after dodging the first guard, who's hair spiked out in random directions, Vegeta grabbed a fistful, swinging him around bodily and slamming him into the other guard, who was bald. He did it with such force that both sentries were left on the ground in pain.
Making sure they would be a nuisance to him in the immediate future, he grabbed both by the collar of their saiyan vests, slamming their heads together, knocking them out cold.
As if bored, he let their unconscious bodies drop from his grip as he speed walked to the throne room.
The throne was unoccupied as he entered the large area, but his mother was standing in front of one of the large windows, her back to him.
"Okra! Is it true that you injected yourself with that kid's DNA?" he shouted, not bothering with pleasantries.
The queen exhaled as if she was being annoyed by his unannounced presence. "So what if I have? It's none of your concern."
"That's not what I wanted to hear," he snarled, balling his fists to restrain his anger. It was really annoying that his mother didn't seem bothered at all by what she was doing.
"Really?" she asked, finally turning away from the window. "It's not as if any of this has an effect on you," she stated with an eye roll. "I'm simply doing what is necessary to stop a problem you caused."
"And I'm going to fix it. That doesn't excuse the fact that you did something so cowardly!"
"Cowardly?!"
Okra almost lost her composure, finally giving her full attention to he time displaced son, hovering away from the window to land at a stop in front of him.
"What's cowardly is waiting for you to solve everyone's problems while we just sit around doing nothing!"
"I agreed to teach you to become a Super Saiyan!" he retorted irritably. Okra turned her nose up at her son.
"I don't need you to teach me now that It's become easy," she replied, making Vegeta narrow his eyes.
"And we're only alive because of your magical appearance to kill Frieza. Sorry, but I'm not going to be in your debt. Now leave," she ordered, pointing to the door behind him.
Vegeta looked at the ground momentarily, mulling over what she had said. Sure, it was true that Planet Vegeta was only still here because of his and Kakarot's timely intervention. But still...Resorting to genetically modifying oneself was simply going too far.
Vegeta locked eyes with his mother, unmoving.
"No. If you're going to defeat Cooler and his army, it's not going to be through some false hope that you can steal the legendary super saiyan's power," he resolved, noticing her mother growing agitated at his disobedience.
"Don't you lecture me on power, boy!" his mother shouted, suddenly speeding towards him with a fist outstretched.
Not caught off guard, Vegeta ducked, intending to incapacitate her the same way he'd attacked the other woman the other day. Unfortunately, Okra must have expected this, having jumped after missing her target with her opening punch.
Vegeta sucked his teeth in annoyance, pivoting around and leaping backwards out of the way of the Queen's kick that followed.
"I'll have you know that you can't beat me," Vegeta declared without emotion, cracking his neck and rotating his punching arm. His mother simply scowled balling her fists tight enough to cause some knuckles to crack.
"I've barely begun to tap into the power that I've gotten. Don't get so arrogant."
"It's not arrogance," Vegeta clarified. "The legendary super saiyan's power, don't think you'll just instantly become stronger because of it."
"Let's test that theory, hm?"
Without any preparation, Okra leaped forward while at the same time, her hair, already wild enough in it's own right, spiked upward some and on end, suddenly colored blonde. Vegeta had to control his surprise lest he took an angry fist straight to his face. He leapt backwards again, narrowly evading the strike.
Vegeta could still sense that his own power surpassed his mother's, but the spike from the transformation just seemed...unrealistic. As if a torch was replaced with a flamethrower. He also observed quickly that her aura and hair was tinted just the slightest by green.
"So you injected yourself with it after all," he mumbled.
The transformation itself didn't disturb him, so much as how much of an increase it caused in her power output...He'd probably have to resort to using Super Saiyan himself.
Within the blink of an eye, Vegeta underwent his own Super Saiyan transformation, a little annoyed that he had to use it at all.
Without any further dialogue, both flew at each other, intent on somehow crushing the other.
Okra managed to psyche him out, acting as if she was going for a punch, but instead flew past him and kicked him from behind.
The impact from her foot actually stung. A lot. Before crashing into the wall, he landed feet first and rebounded off of it which allowed him to dodge his mother who had gave chase. A small crater was punched into the spot he'd just vacated.
"I wonder if Kakarot's made any progress," Vegeta thought in irritation, dodging his mother's barrage of punches and kicks with just mild difficulty. Catching Okra's last punch, he grabbed her arm and threw her across the room, allowing him time to breathe.
"She's perhaps already strong enough to give Cooler problems..." he muttered to himself. He wasn't injured, but he was definitely winded, something only Kakarot could manage to do at their current levels. He had to admit, this was beginning to excite him. The prospect of fighting another powerful challenger was almost too compelling to ignore.
But he had to stop this. He learned first hand what cheating to get ultimate power led to.
"How are you keeping up with me?!" Okra demanded, wiping the blood off of a thin cut on her lip.
"Mother, stop this now! You're already acting unlike yourself. I don't remember you ever being this reckless!"
"You don't know what you're talking about!" she retorted loudly, flaring her energy and flying towards Vegeta once again.
"What the-!" Vegeta noticed her power spike up again, not quite as much as her initial transformation, but it was enough to make him clench his teeth. He blocked a punch from her, slightly jarring his arm before making space and launching a blast of blue energy directly at her. Without stopping, Okra swung her arm hard, smacking the blast away from her and managing to bruise her arm in the process. The both of them were airborne by this time, and Vegeta flew through the hole that the Queen inadvertently created, with Okra following behind him and returning fire.
I'm hoping that didn't seem a little rushed. I got a late shift at work today so I won't be home till midnight. I wanted to release a longer chapter, as I know I haven't updated this in a long minute.
Now, as the story is going so far, I never intended for Okra to surpass either Goku or Vegeta after injecting herself with the extract from Broly's blood. That would be very cliché and unimaginative. However, I thought this would be a cool problem for Vegeta to deal with as he'd done something similar, which is trying to get a shortcut to power, via Babidi. So for him to learn from his mistakes and then see his mother do something like that, especially since this is Broly's blood we're talking about...Yeaaah.
Anyway, Cooler's gonna be showing up. And King Cold. And maybe Cooler's mom eventually. I don't know. Read and Review, and please give me any feedback on the story. It'd be greatly appreciated!
