Usagi ran towards Misaki. He saw him turn and barely heard him say his name.
Then his world crumbled when he saw him fall.
Everything happened so fast. The sight of Misaki falling almost made him slow down.
Misaki dissapeared, he had fallen. In that instant, strong feelings of denial took over him. It was as if his mind was telling his body that this was not a real occurrence and in consequence it made his body betray him. He felt his legs go numb making him trip.
He felt small stones and dirt between his fingers, the pain on his hands and knees woke him up. He had to get to Misaki.
He got to the place Misaki had been clinging on to and kneeled there. Once there he realized that it was not really a precipice but a very steep and muddy cliff. For a moment he felt relieved since he could see Misaki. He was lying on the ground on his side with his arms stretched out in front of him.
"Misaki!" he stood up and ran towards him. This time he did so with more difficulty since the terrain was so steep, muddy and slippery, he almost fell several times but managed to keep running. Once he was getting close to Misaki, he tried to stop but he had not realized it was going be hard to do so because of the slippery ground. So instead of stopping right next to Misaki, he could not help going a couple more feet further from him and out of desperation to stop it only took one wrong step to slip backwards and fall on his butt.
In the silent forest, he heard a soft giggle.
Usagi turned around to see Misaki who was still lying on his side, but now had one hand covering his mouth. It almost seemed as if he was trying to hold back laughter. Usagi quickly went beside him and kneeled.
He grabbed Misaki's hand extended on the ground. "Misaki are you okay?"
Usagi heard the giggles turn into waves of laughter.
"Usagi-san!" He was laughing so hard he was almost snorting. "You looked so funny when you fell!"
Misaki had not really fallen, he had stepped on the soft edge of the cliff and since it was unstable, he went downwards and slid all the way down. If he had not seen Usagi's comical fall, he would have stood up by himself.
Usagi was so confused and he was not sure what to make out of the situation. With his free hand, he caressed Misaki's face, passing his fingers through his brown hair.
Misaki then grabbed his swollen abdomen with his free hand. "Oww, it hurts!"
Usagi's face turned white, "Where does it hurt?!" he said scared.
"Oww… no! It's so funny it hurts!" Misaki rolled onto his back letting Usagi's hand go. He placed both hands on his belly and continued laughing.
Usagi now was beyond confused. He had strong mixed feelings about the entire situation. In a way he was upset that Misaki was taking it all so lightly since Usagi had never been more terrified in his life. But overall at the same time he felt immense relief that Misaki was alright. "You are not hurting anywhere Misaki, are you?"
Misaki took a big breath to finally calm himself down. "No, I'm fine really. It was more like a slide than a fall. Although I really though I was going to fall when I felt the ground below me disappear. It was horrible then but once I realized I was sliding, I must admit it was a bit fun. I had not done this type of activity in a while." He let out a soft laugh.
"Can you sit down?" Usagi offered his hand to help him up.
"I can but just wait a minute." Misaki stretched his arms to the sides and looked around him. He could see the sky and the top of the trees with changing color leaves. "Look where we are, I am kind of comfortable here even though I am all covered in mud. It is so peaceful." He turned his face to look at Usagi.
"Misaki you cannot begin to imagine the fear I felt when I saw you fall. It seemed like the world stopped. I – I - I was…!"
Misaki looked at Usagi's hands, they were trembling. "It's okay. Don't worry."
Usagi tired from all the exertion from the recent happenings threw himself on the muddy ground next to Misaki.
"It's okay, just breathe." Misaki told him trying to calm him down a bit, but still he was trying to hold in laughter.
Usagi looked at him, he was still a bit upset at him since he had gone through one of the scariest moments of his life and the person in question was just laughing.
Misaki realized what he was doing and stopped. "Look at me, I am fine. It was actually fun really."
"Well it was only fun for you. It is going to take me a while to recover from this." He placed his arm around his forehead. "I need a smoke."
"Well unless you have the backpack with you right now, then you are going to have to make your own with the leaves you see here." Misaki said with hopes of making Usagi feel better.
Usagi gave an uninterested look to Misaki. "Ha. Ha. Very funny." But it seemed the joke worked. Usagi laughed a bit and it made him somewhat more relaxed. He looked at the top of the trees above them, Misaki was indeed right, the spot they were lying on was very peaceful and comfortable.
They felt the cold breeze catch their hair and blow it softly. Misaki wanted to grab Usagi's hand, but he was still shy for certain things. He only managed to pull his hand close to Usagi's wrist. Usagi felt the touch upon his wrist, and after the scare he had gone through, he did not think it twice and grabbed Misaki's hand tightly, their fingers clenched together.
"Usagi-san?"
"Yes?" He turned to see him.
"Thank you for bringing me here." Misaki gave him a sincere smile.
Usagi looked at those beautiful green orbes. He sighed. "You want to know something?"
Misaki nodded.
"I really hope the babies have your eyes. Whenever I see them, whatever it is I am feeling, anxiety or anger, they calm me down and they make me feel that everything will be okay." He pressed Misaki's hand tighter.
Misaki blushed. "I don't know about that… but I just want them to be strong and healthy by the time they are born. It really bothers me I might not be able to deliver them to term."
"They will be alright, you are doing a great job."
"Thank you. I hope I am." Misaki rubbed his belly.
"Well I think we have been here for a while already. Should we find a way to get out of here now?" Usagi sat down and extended his arm to help Misaki sit.
"Yes. I think we should get going now." Misaki grabbed Usagi's arm and sat.
Usagi stood up and looked at his surroundings. All he saw were trees, bushes and the incredibly steep cliff they had slid from. "Any ideas Misaki? Hiking is not my forte at all."
Misaki also looked around trying to figure out the same thing. "I really don't know. Could you please help me up first?" He extended his arms towards Usagi, who grabbed them and pulled him carefully upwards.
"Whoa, I was not this heavy." He placed his hands on the sides of his belly. "Alright it's time to come up with an idea to get out of here."
They looked around and walked some feet away from where they had been, trying to look for a path or trail that would lead them back up. They even tried screaming for help but it seemed that nobody was close by to hear them. Unfortunately, after exploring their surroundings for about half an hour, it seemed like they only had two options. The first one was to walk around the cliff and find a side of it that was not so steep, and the second option was for Usagi to climb back up the cliff and then get help to get Misaki out.
"I vote for the second option." Misaki said with his hands at the back of his waist.
"I think so too. Alright then, I will be right back! Stay here." He gave Misaki a kiss and proceeded to climb the cliff.
"You can do it Usagi-san!"
Usagi, facing at the cliff, placed his hands on it and held onto the rocks tightly. It wasn't until he placed his foot on a protruding rock and pulled himself up that he realized that climbing was not an easy task. Even though he tried to hold on tight to the rocks, his arm strength was obviously not enough and he let himself go.
"What happened?" Misaki asked him.
Usagi could not look at Misaki and tell him that he honestly thought he was not going to be able to climb the cliff, he had to at least try to climb it again with everything he had. He would not give up so easily.
"I just need to focus." Usagi tried to climb the cliff again, this time with Misaki helping him out telling him where to step on, he was able to go 6 feet up. He was getting the hang of it but then he reached a point where there was nothing to hold on to. It was all mud. He buried his hands on the mud to pull himself up but sadly it did not work and he sled down.
"Damn it!" Usagi cursed.
Misaki realized what was happening. "It's no use, from that point upwards it's all mud, you will slip again."
"No I will try again." Usagi repeated all the steps that had got him 6 feet up to only slip again and slide time after time.
"Usagi-san it's okay. Let's go with the first option and go around the cliff. There's got to be something we can do."
Usagi only nodded, once more he felt completely useless. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Let's go." Misaki grabbed Usagi's hand even though it was covered in mud and dirty, holding hands, they started walking in search for a way back. They walked for about an hour trying to find a way up, as they walked on, they noticed that the cliff seemed to get half as tall as it used to be where they had slid, but it was still not short enough for Usagi to climb and not flat enough for Misaki to walk through. They noticed the sky was getting gray as they walked and the pace of the wind was increasing too.
"Usagi-san I think we need to find some shelter, it looks like it's going to rain."
Usagi looked up the sky, "Those clouds are very dark." It wasn't long until they started feeling little raindrops touch their skin. "We need to hurry." Usagi looked around paying more attention to everything and he was able to see a very small sort of cave formed by a fallen tree and many vines and thin tree stems tangled together. "Come on, over there look." Usagi grabbed Misaki and pulled him towards the little cave. It was small. It was around two meters deep and at the most one meter in width and length. They had to get into all fours to be able to get in. But at least they were safe from getting wet.
"That was close Usagi-san. We were lucky."
"Well if we were lucky we would not have got into this situation on the first place."
Misaki looked down. "I am sorry Usagi-san, if only I had not..."
Usagi realized what he had done with his previous statement and interrupted him. "I am sorry Misaki, I did not mean it that way. We'll find a way back."
They decided to wait until the rain stopped to keep looking for help and without realizing it, lying one next to each other feeling their warmth, they fell sleep.

He knew his eyes were open, he felt himself winking. But all he saw was darkness.
'What happened?' Misaki thought. He could smell the scent of the wet leaves and dirt. He turned to his other side and saw Usagi also sleeping. 'How long have we slept for?' he wondered.
"Usagi-san wake up!" he grabbed Usagi's shoulder and shook him. "Wake up!"
Usagi let out a soft moan kind of complaining for being woken up. Misaki saw how Usagi blinked many times just as he did making sure he was awake, since it was so dark. "Usagi-san wake up, what time is it?"
"What? How long have we been sleeping for?" Usagi said scratching his head and sitting up.
"That is what I want to know too! Do you have your phone? Mine still does not get signal"
"Yes I have it here, it is… No!" Usagi stared with his eyes wide open at his phone.
"What time is it?!" Misaki took the phone from Usagi.
"It's 11:00 pm." Usagi couldn't believe it was so late.
Misaki gasped. "What?! No way!" He was so shocked at how fast time had passed. It was so dark and late in the night to be stuck in the forest. It was so late… so late… and then realization hit.
"THE PILLS!" Misaki almost screamed. If he could have he would have sat down immediately, but the weight in his middle section unabled him to do so. "I have to take them right now! I have to go home NOW" He desperately leaned on his arms to help himself sit up. He was about to go in all fours to crawl, leave and run home, but Usagi was faster than him and stopped him.
"Misaki stop! No! Calm down!" Usagi got in front of Misaki to stop him and hold him from going anywhere.
"Calm down?! Don't tell me to calm down! Do you remember what happened when I stopped taking my pills for some hours?! I almost lose them! I have to take my pills now! We have to get out of here! What are we going to do?!"
By the end of Misaki's sentence, lightning struck somewhere far in the forest. It was enough light for Usagi to see clearly the horror in Misaki's face and a well of unshed tears on his green eyes.
"Did you see that Misaki?! It might rain again anytime soon! We can't go out and get wet without risking you getting a cold—"
"Are you listening to yourself?! A cold is nothing compared to losing them! Now Usagi-san get out of my way!" Misaki was in all fours trying to get through Usagi.
But Usagi stayed in front of him blocking his only way out. "No." He would not budge.
"Let me go!" He started hitting Usagi with his fists, letting all the tears finally run through his cheeks.
It hurt Usagi to see Misaki so panicked. "I won't move. You have to listen—"
"Why are you doing this to me?! Let me go! If something happens to my children it's going to be your fault! Get out of my— Aghh!" Misaki suddenly gasped and completely froze. Fear taking over his face, he leaned on one hand on the ground and pushing Usagi´s hand away he grabbed a side of his swollen abdomen. "Ughh…"
"Misaki! What's wrong?!" Usagi grabbed Misaki's shoulders, fearing that upsetting Misaki had caused the worst repercussion possible. "Misaki look at me, talk to me!" He raised his voice.
Misaki kept looking at the ground. His mouth trying to let out sound, but he couldn't manage to voice anything. To Usagi it seemed as if Misaki was trying to hold in moans of pain. Misaki looked around as if trying to find an answer. Usagi got closer to him, his face centimeters away from Misaki so he could get him back from whatever was happening. Misaki then found his lovers gaze and widened his eyes.
"Misaki, what's wrong?" Usagi gave him a pleading look.
"They are…" Without thinking, Misaki pulled Usagi's hands to his belly, and placed them right on the spot his own hand had been on.
Usagi felt them.
His children, they were moving.
Usagi let out a smile that quickly turned into a laugh. "They are moving! They are kicking! I can feel them too!" He laughed happily placing his hands on different spots on Misaki's belly to see if he could feel more movement, which he did. Misaki reciprocated Usagi's feelings by smiling and laughing excited with him.
"They are moving Usagi-san!" They gave each other a forgiving and loving look for a couple of seconds that then went towards Misaki's belly, contemplating what was happening.
"I can feel… they are… does it hurt?" Usagi asked innocently.
"No it doesn't. I was just surprised, that's all." He said sitting on his knees.
"Misaki this makes everything so…" Usagi said excited.
"… real." Misaki finished his sentence. "In a couple of months they are going to be in our arms and we are going to be a family."
Usagi placed his hand on Misaki's cheeks and looked at Misaki's green shining eyes. "Misaki please listen to me. I am doing the best I can for you and for them. I promise you whatever happens as long as I am with you, we are going to be alright okay?"
They both felt a strong kick from Misaki's belly, making them both look down at it. Misaki bit his lips and looked at his lover again. He nodded and let the tears stream down his face. "I am so sorry Usagi-san. I trust you. But right now… I am scared. They just started moving, I need to—"
"We will get them. I need you to listen to me. The car is still here, they must have noticed and I am pretty sure they are looking for us right now. Let's just stay here for the time being. Do you feel pain anywhere?
Misaki shook his head. "No, not at all."
"Alright, that is a good sign and let's just wait... it is too dark to go out and…"
"Usami-san! Takahashi-san!"
Usagi and Misaki's eyes widened in surprise. Usagi quickly let go of Misaki and went out of their little refugee spot. "We are here!" Usagi moved his arms waving them and crossing them up. Misaki could now crawl out of the little cave and with Usagi's help he stood up. "Here!" Misaki screamed too. They could see the light from flashlights several feet from them getting closer. They both smiled and sighed relieved.
Once the reservation's crew was close enough, they asked them if they were hurt, they could see they were very relieved too.
"Sir we are so sorry about this entire situation. We had a yellow line forbidding the entrance of people towards this side of the reservation. It seems earlier today a child took it from its spot and pulled it away. We noticed when we were about to close the reservation and your car was still here. We looked for you and we saw your backpack away from the trail on the ground. We have been looking for you nonstop. We are terribly sorry about this incident."
Usagi and Misaki did not know what to say, they were just glad they had been found and wanted to get home as soon as possible. To their surprise, they got back to the hiking trail after a 30 minute walk which did not cause strain for Misaki since they had rested for many hours. Once back on the trail there was what it seemed like a golf cart to get them back to the entrance and the parking lot. Since there were many small rocks on a portion of the trail, the ride became bumpy. Usagi noticed Misaki placing his hands on his stomach. Misaki looked at Usagi and shook his head. "It seems they don't like the ride" He whispered smiling.
Usagi couldn't help himself and placed his hands on Misaki's stomach. He could feel his children move inside his lover. They were on the back of the cart so unless someone turned they could not be seen. Besides, neither Misaki nor Usagi cared to be seen, they had been through a lot for the day.
Once in the parking lot there was an ambulance and police cars waiting for them. The reservation crew insisted on having them examined by paramedics but they both refused entirely for obvious reasons. Usagi told them straight away they would be responsible for their own well-being and would not blame them or sue the reservation so that they could avoid further conversations and get home as fast as they could.
They got home in the blink of an eye and Misaki quickly headed to the kitchen where he found the bottle of pills on the table. He took one pill, swallowed it with water and afterwards he leaned on the table with both hands, facing down.
"Boy what a day."
"Should we call the doctor Misaki?" Usagi said behind him.
"No, I don't think so, I feel fine. Besides it was only a couple of hours I don't think it will do any harm." He placed his hand on his belly. "I think these children really like adventure. They haven't stopped moving since the forest." Misaki put his hands on his lower back and leaned backwards.
Usagi got close to him and placed his hands on Misaki's belly. He could feel his children move. "Wow, they are so little yet so strong. It's amazing."
"It is right? It definitely feels more real now. There are two babies inside of me." He laughed. "Let's go take a shower and go to bed. I am tired." Misaki headed to the bedroom and not far back, Usagi grabbed his hands and they both went to take a shower followed by a very much needed good night's sleep.

The following day was their last day in Karuizawa, they had had enough adventure for their vacation so they decided to stay at home and enjoy the amazing house they were staying in. In the morning Misaki swam in the pool while Usagi would read a book and peak on Misaki every once in a while. After he got tired of reading, he got inside the pool with Misaki and just relaxed swimming from one end to the other. They ordered some traditional food for lunch and after taking a small nap, they went to the hot springs on the other side of the house. Misaki was only inside the hot springs for a couple of minutes since he could not be exposed too long to hot water. When he was done, he sat on the edge with Usagi next to him still inside the water. Usagi's head was leaning on Misaki's leg, sometimes hugging it, other times drawing circles on it with his fingers.
They were both enjoying each other's company.
When they were done, they packed their bags quickly, it only took them half an hour since they had not brought so many things. They cleaned up the rooms they used and they left everything as they had found it.
Half an hour into the drive back, Misaki reclined the back of the seat for more comfort. "Let's come back again, but next time with the kids. We could teach them how to swim, they could crawl freely in the grass, and then as they get older they can run and play."
"We could even come with Takahiro and his family for a vacation."
Misaki put his hands over his belly and started playing with his fingers, he knew what he was about to say was going to upset Usagi. "Maybe we could come with your family too… someday."
Usagi did not say anything for a moment, he only let out a deep sigh. For a moment he thought about telling Misaki everything about his father and his wishes for the company... about having heirs. Besides, as each day passed, the time his father had given him to give back an answer was running out. If his father's offer would only affect him, he wouldn't have cared, but the damned man had involved not only Misaki, but unknowingly also his unborn children. It made him upset just to think about it, but then he looked at his side, and there he was. Looking at him with hopeful eyes was the love of his life smiling at him.
That was all it took for all his problematic thoughts to vanish. "Someday… maybe."
During the way home, they received a call from the reservation they went on their hike. They asked them about their health and later they told them that they had been granted a platinum membership for the reservation for life. They would never have to pay for absolutely anything if they decided to visit again and they could bring as many guests as they wanted. Usagi thanked them for the gesture and ended the call. "I'm not sure I want to go back there again."
