Klaus was going all out for this date. He wanted, no needed, it to go perfectly. Caroline was going to give him a second chance and he highly doubted that if he screwed up again he would get a third chance. So Caroline and Klaus sat rather properly as they sat in the rather proper restaurant. There was nothing really wrong with the restaurant; it was just like the on Klaus had taken Caroline on their first date as a couple. It was beautiful five star upscale restaurant; expensive to say the least, and very much the place you wanted to be just wasn't what was needed right now. They need something more intimate, more personal, to give them time to reconnect.
So Caroline, in a rather beautiful dress, was stealing glances at Klaus over her menu. Several times she tried to start a conversation but found herself only able to open and close her mouth. Klaus, on his part, sat drinking. It was the only way he was going to make it through this night. Caroline was easy to read and her nervousness was bleeding onto him. So he sat on his fourth scotch, tie loosened and stealing glances at Caroline over his menu trying to get the courage up to start a conversation.
"So what looks good love?" Klaus finally asked. Food would be a nice safe topic.
"Huh, what?" Caroline was startled by the sound of Klaus' voice she was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she hadn't given any thought to the menu. In truth she couldn't even tell you what was listed.
"I asked if you knew what you wanted to order." Oh yes this is going to be a long night. That was the thought that was running through Klaus' mind.
"Oh I'm still not sure yet." Caroline didn't even bother to look up from her menu. Instead opting to give the menu her full attention.
Klaus had, had enough. This simply wasn't going to work. "Do you wanna get out of here and go somewhere else?" Klaus asked Caroline leaning closer to Caroline looking at her playfully.
"Absolutely." Caroline couldn't get the words out fast enough. She was bored and uncomfortable and she would welcome anything to break the tension that was between them.
Klaus quickly called over the waiter paid for the food that they wouldn't eat tipped the waiter for the food he wouldn't bring, and took Caroline's hand in his leading them out of the restaurant. "Where to now, love?"
"Fun. I wanna do something that is stupid and fun." It was a true statement. Caroline never had the chance to be young and to make all the mistakes that people in their twenties tend to make. It was like she went from graduating school right into being a wife, and then to being a widow.
"Stupid fun, huh?" Klaus pretended to consider her words for a minute. "I think I can handle that."
The first stop on their 'stupid fun' date was to Cony Island's amusement park. The pair spent a few hours riding the roller-coasters, eating cotton-candy, playing games, and the even stopped to take a few novelty pictures. One in particular was of Klaus standing behind a cut out ape with only his head peeking through, and Caroline behind a body of a scantily clad woman dressed only in a red bikini being held in the ape's hand. Both of them couldn't stop laughing at the picture. It was ridiculous, but they loved it none the less.
"Okay love where to next?" Klaus asked with his arm thrown over Caroline's shoulder.
"Let's crash something." The idea popped into Caroline's head out of nowhere. So that's how the two of them found themselves running out of a very impressive looking hall being chased by a couple of very angry middle aged gentlemen. They had crashed a Bar Mitzvah, and proceeded to drink as much of the free booze that they could get their hands on. It was safe to say that they were drunk.
'Oh my God could you imagine my father's face if he had to come and bail me out of jail." Caroline giggled, leaning heavily into Klaus.
"Oh I know my father would have been properly disappointed." He then proceeded to do a rather impressive impression of Mikeal. "Niklaus, what were you thinking behaving like that? Do you know what this will do to your reputation? How this will reflect on the name Mikealson? What were you thinking?"
Caroline burst out laughing, nearly tripping over her feet. "Oh my God you do sound just like your father."
"That hurts love." Klaus put his hand over his heart pretending to be offended.
The couple found themselves walking around a park. They had no clue what part of the city they were in let alone what park. It wasn't as if they actually cared. They were simply enjoying themselves too much to pay attention to trivial things like location. When they rain came they didn't even bother to run for cover they just stood allowing the water to wash over them. Klaus even titled his head back and allowed some droplets to enter his mouth. Caroline didn't mind; she thought the rain was perfect. It was like the universe knew they needed to be cleansed of their past, and sent the rain their way.
"I hope you don't mind a little rain?" Klaus asked laughing. "How is this for imperfect love?" Klaus taunted Caroline as the rain poured down on them. At that point Klaus either made the worst decision of his life or the best because he looked at Caroline smiling and dancing in the rain. Throwing Caroline's rules at his own personal risk he grabbed her around the waist and firmly planted his lips to hers. It was a soft and quick kiss, but a kiss none the less. "Sorry love, but you looked to beautiful not to be kissed." Klaus quickly explained at Caroline's shocked expression.
Caroline didn't mind thought. All the great love stories started out imperfectly with a perfectly imperfect kiss. Grabbing Klaus' hand she pulled him along with her as the pair danced in the rain.
When Caroline arrived home a little while later she was soaking wet, but had a large smile on her face. This was simply the best night of her life. She was no longer Trudy Prudy.
"Caroline, you are wet." Liz commented when she took in her daughter's appearance. She was soaked from head to toe, her make-up washed from her face, and she was barefoot carrying her muddy heels in her hand. "What has that boy been doing with you all night?" Liz asked her voice full of disdain. She was beginning to rethink her position on Klaus; again.
Caroline laughed, an honest to goodness laugh as she made her way past her mother heading from her room. She would never be able to tell her mother what she need that night. Liz would never understand it; passion.
When Klaus got back to his place he wasn't surprised to find his father waiting for him, nor was he surprised that his father looked thoroughly disappointed. No doubt he had one of his many spies follow them and report back on their date. It looked like his father didn't get all of the information because if he did he would know that Caroline had the time of her life.
"You took her to an amusement park. Are you twelve?" Mikael roared the last part. "I thought you knew how important tonight was. How it had to go perfectly. Clear you didn't get the memo when you took her to commit a felony." Mikael continued to yell, at what his thought, was his very clueless son. "Why are you laughing Nikolas? Nothing about this is funny. Look at you you're soaked from top to bottom. Go dry off and come back her so that I can continue to yell at you."
Klaus moved past his father and continued to laugh as he made his way to the stairs. Hi father would never get it. He honestly didn't believe that anyone would. There are some beauties of the world that are best left between two people. "You just don't get it."
"Don't get what Niklaus?" Mikael was in no mood to try an decipher whatever his son was trying to get at.
"That sometime perfect is over rated. Life should be about freedom, passion, and all the imperfections that can make the seemingly ugliest thing a work of beauty. You don't get it, and you never will because you have never experienced, and on that father
