Quinn stood beneath the spray of the shower, her face aimed towards the downpour. She was going to enjoy absolutely every last little thing about this shower, it would be the last shower she would have that would go uninterrupted for a while. In a few hours time they would be back in Lima, Ohio and would have to go back to being moms. As much as the blonde was going to miss everything about their weekend away, she was looking forward to going home to their girls. It felt weirdly alien to sleep all the way through the night and she missed the way Beth's hand would fist in her hair as she drifted off against her chest. There were a million and one things she missed about home but the thing that made it home were Beth, Charlie and Rachel and in a few months they would hopefully be setting up their very first home for all of them together. Her thoughts were interrupted as gentle hands snaked around her waist and a kiss brushed against her bare shoulder, "Hey."
"Hey," Rachel greeted cheerfully, "do you mind if I join you?"
"Not one bit," her brain reminded her of their responsibilities, "but we should probably behave ourselves, we've got some much to do to get ready."
She pressed a kiss to the top of her girlfriends spine, it was just within her reach without tiptoeing, "All we have to do is get dressed."
"We have to pack," she said forlornly.
"Already done," she chirped, her fingers stepping their way round the front and up her lovers torso.
"You devious little minx," she knew that Rachel had taken care of everything so that they could have one last chance of intimacy together without the worry of being interrupted by a screaming child or parents knocking at inappropriate times or friends who seem to think that if they keep calling you that you will eventually answer (Santana being that person in particular).
Her hands reached up and palmed full breasts. "Stop thinking," she instructed before slowly kissing her way down Quinn's spinal column.
Quinn melted into her girlfriends touch, her mind shifting from the upcoming responsibilities to her present reality, "You're making it so I can't think," she chuckled softly.
"Good," she pressed her body tight against the blondes back, "because thinking has a time and place, and now is neither the time nor the place."
She carefully removed the hands from her chest and turned round so that she was facing the other young woman, "You know, for someone who's so insistent on me not thinking, you sure are talking a lot," she smirked teasingly.
Tanned cheeks blush as she mutters, "Shut up."
"Make me," she challenges with a quirked eyebrow, a part of her knowing that Rachel wouldn't back down from the challenge, another small piece of her girl slowly returning.
Rachel pressed a lingering kiss to the lips in front of hers, her hands ghosting Quinn's sides causing the other girl to shiver, "How about I shut you up and make you feel good?"
"Yes please," she hummed before reconnecting their lips.
Once again Quinn found herself strapped into the seat of the dreaded airplane, and once again thankful for Rachel giving her a distraction. As listened to her girlfriend rant she almost felt sorry for the Berry's, they were in for a world of trouble when they got home and yet, a part of her agreed with Rachel, it was wrong of her fathers to trick her but at the same time she completely understood why they had done. She would never tell Rachel, but a part of her was thankful that Hiram and Leroy had led them to New York under false pretences, not only had her and Rachel had a remarkable trip that gave them the break they had so desperately needed but they had opened up the doorway for Rachel to return to her dreams, they had started the conversation, whether the stubborn brunette would admit to it or not.
"They're not getting one word out of me about this trip," Rachel continued.
"I know, Rach."
"I mean it, Quinn, nothing. Not one iota of information," she huffed, had one hand not been laced with Quinn's to comfort the other girl she would've crossed her arms.
She could tell that the girl beside her was just getting angrier and angrier as she dwelled on the situation and while she had every right to be angry, being angry in such a confined space just didn't seem like a good idea to the blonde. "So," she began, determined to get Rachel off the topic of how she was going to punish her parents for their trickery, "you said something the other day and it really got me thinking..."
Rachel, about to continue her tirade, paused and looked at her girlfriend with confusion etched into her face, "I did?"
"You did," she nodded, "when we were at the pizza place."
She thought back to their conversation, puzzling over what she may have said that would have ended with Quinn in thought, "That I wasn't always vegan?"
"No, well, yes, sort of," she laughed, trust Rachel to find a way to make her stumble over her words, "I was actually talking about what you said about Beth and Charlie."
"You mean that they're like sisters?" With a smile she quickly added, "And you corrected me and said they are sisters."
"That's because they are sisters," she fought the urge to roll her eyes at the girl, not wanting to provoke the anger she was trying to distract her from. "Remember how we talked about whether or not you'd raise Charlie as vegan and you said you wouldn't because it should be her choice and because it wouldn't be fair for the girls to have separate meals?"
"I did say that, that is correct." Dark eyes studied the blondes face, trying to figure out where she was heading with this, "What, exactly, are you getting at, Quinn?"
"Well, I was thinking that you're right, the girls shouldn't have two separate meals. So I thought they should both have the same, including vegan meals."
"Wait..." she paused for a moment, her brain processing what Quinn was really saying, "are you saying that you want Beth to have vegan meals?"
"Yeah. I mean, why wouldn't I? Regardless of what anyone else thinks or says, we're a family," she smiled softly, "so the girls should be treated the same, even when it comes to food."
"What about Noah?" she asked, trepidation clear in her voice. Often, Noah would remind her that he viewed her and Charlie as his family, especially when Quinn and Beth were concerned, but Rachel always held that shred of doubt that as soon as he didn't agree with something concerning Beth that he would turn his back on them. She couldn't explain where this doubt came from, but she couldn't shake it. She supposed that part of it was to do with the way Quinn and Beth had become such an important part of her life, how Quinn had been the first truly good thing to happen to her after everything had happened and eventually come to the light to the rest of the world.
She gave her girlfriends hand a reassuring squeeze, "He'll be fine, don't worry about it. I'm going to talk to him about it, if he has strong objections over it then we'll deal with that then but it's Puck, he's really going to be ok with it. He fully understands and agrees that Beth and Charlie are sisters." She turned to look directly at the smaller girl, thankful that the blind on the window had been pulled down and she couldn't see the clouds as the wing sliced through them, and gently guided her face to look at her, "Hey...it's going to be ok, I promise. It's weird, this thing we've got going." She paused as she tried to think of the right words, "We've got this three-way parenting thing and I don't think any of us ever really thought about that as a possibility but it's real and we make it work. I think we do pretty well with it. But you need to remember something, Rach, just because there's three of us, it doesn't mean that any one of us is going to be valued less than anyone else and we all love the girls so much. So, so much. Puck, me, you...we'd all move heaven and earth for our girls. We're a family, nothing's going to change that."
Rachel nodded and remained silent. Her brain going over their entire situation, how they had become a family when once upon a time she felt the blonde hated her. "It still amazes me," she mused out loud.
"What does, baby?"
"Us. The girls. Our own little family." It was her turn to be silent as she mulled over her words. "I just...I never asked for any of this. I didn't even know that I wanted it but now I have it, I don't ever want to lose it and I guess I'm scared of that happening. I'm scared that I'll lose all of it. If that happens..."
"You're not going to lose it all. Things didn't happen the way you expected them to, I get that, they didn't really work out the way I planned either." Quinn offered a small smile as she gently squeezed Rachel's hand, "But it all happened and so far we've managed to face all of it and I think that says a lot. The only way you'll get rid of me and Beth is if you tell me that's what you want for you and Charlie, but otherwise you're stuck with us. Beth loves having a baby sister and you? Well, she adores you. And when it comes to me? I couldn't stay away from you when I just liked you, how do you think I'm going to stay away now that I'm in love with you?"
Rachel stared wide-eyed at her blonde counterpart as she uttered, "You're in love with me?"
Shit. "That wasn't how I wanted to tell you," she scratched at the back of her neck nervously, "but yeah, Rach, I'm in love with you."
Quinn had barely finished talking when Rachel leaned in and kissed her longingly, "I love you, Quinn Fabray."
"I love you too, Rach," the blonde smiled content.
The raven haired diva sat back in her chair, a lopsided grin on her face as she whispered to herself, "She's in love with me."
"Girls!" Judy called out excitedly as she waved over at her daughter and her girlfriend.
"Hey Mom," Quinn greeted as they got closer.
"Hi Judy," Rachel was slowly getting used to not calling the older woman Mrs. Fabray.
"Where are the girls?" the younger blonde asked, disappointment sounding in her voice at the lack of their babies presence.
Judy embraced her daughter, before doing the same with Rachel, talking as she did so, "They're back with Hiram and Leroy. We figured we'd let them nap so they wouldn't be all grumpy by the time you two get home."
"Then it's lovely to see you, Judy," the brunette spoke as she rearranged her bag, "but let's get home because I missed our girls and I'm dying to give them both a big kiss and hug."
"I'm with Rach," Quinn agreed, "this weekend was great but I missed them like crazy."
The oldest Fabray led them out of the airport and to the car, "And they missed you too. Noah came over while you guys were gone but he's right, Beth is definitely a mama's girl and Charlie is exactly the same."
"It's good to know that we were missed," Quinn smiled.
"Judy?" a voice spoke up as they got into the car.
"Yes, dear?" she replied as they fastened their seat belts.
"I have a question, if I may?"
Uh oh...
"And what's that, Rachel?" she asked, her eyes looking at the girl in the backseat via her rearview mirror.
"Were you aware of my fathers intentions regarding this trip?"
"What do you mean, intentions?" her brow furrowed.
"That it was all just a plot to get me to go back to Broadway in hopes that I would change my mind about my decision to not pursue a career in performance?"
"I can't say that I did, dear," she feigned innocence, noticing the way her daughter gave her a suspicious look, "but if that's what they intended I'm sure they did it for all the right reasons, they would've only had your interests at heart."
"Hmmm..."
"Rae!" Leroy beamed as he opened the door, ready to hug his daughter and welcome her home.
"Where's Charlie?" Rachel asked a little bluntly.
A flash of hurt showed in Leroy's eyes, "She's upstairs in her crib and Beth is in hers."
"I'll be upstairs," she turned to take Quinn's bag, "I'll see you up there," and without another word she started to climb the staircase.
"You," Quinn turned her attention to the darker Berry, "are in SO much trouble!"
"I told you she'd figure it out," a voice called from the lounge.
"Quiet you," Leroy shot back to his husband as he moved out of the way so Quinn and Judy could get to the lounge. Once everyone was seated he asked, "She figured out why we wanted her to go, didn't she?"
"She did," the young mother nodded before showing her own annoyance, "I can't believe you didn't tell me that was the point of the trip! It would've been nice to have been prepared!"
"We couldn't tell you, Quinn," Hiram spoke softly, "she would've only gotten mad at you too and we didn't want that for you. Besides, it wasn't the entire point of the trip, we genuinely wanted to give you guys a break from everything."
"You're both growing up so quickly, Quinnie," Judy chimed in, "we just wanted you to do something that was for you guys, not because it was a responsibility and you had to do it."
"Ok, well, you've got your work cut out for you with convincing Rach of that," she pointed out, "but that can wait, if it's ok with you, there's two little girls I need to go see."
With a chorus of 'of course' from their parents, Quinn excused herself and made her way up to what she thought of as their room. "Hey," she beamed at the sight, "there's my girls."
Rachel sat on the bed, Charlie resting against her chest, her tiny hand fisted in dark curls and Beth sat between Rachel's legs, happily babbling away. As soon as Beth saw her mother she stretched at her hands and grasped at the air, excitedly making noises, "Mmmm! Meh! Ma! Ma!"
"Oh my God, Quinn!"
"Did she just...?"
"Beth, say it again," Rachel encouraged.
Beth giggled in response, her little arms still outstretched.
Quinn rushed over to the bed and scooped her daughter up causing her to squeal in delight, "Mommy missed you, my clever girl!" She positioned herself on the bed next to Rachel and leant over to press a kiss to Charlie's cheek, "Hey there, angel, I missed you too."
"It's good to be home," Rachel said happily, her anger forgotten now that she had her family back together.
"It really is," the blonde smiled as she wrapped an arm around the brunettes shoulders, "I've got my girls all together again, life is good."
Authors note: I cannot begin to apologise enough with how long this took me. I was doing really well with getting it done for the end of last month but then I had some health issues that interfered greatly with my ability to write. It may be a little while before the next chapter as I'm replotting everything after losing my original plot document when that virus hit my computer so with that in mind, send in suggestions with what you'd like to see next. Before anyone asks, I will be addressing the whole mom/mommy issue soon, I just need to get it right in my head but I'm not ignoring it. R&R! It really does help and you might kickstart my ideas so I can get back to writing more regular. Catch ya later guys, I'll try not to be too long this time but I make no promises cos of my health.
