Chapter Twenty-Six
"Come on! You can't just ignore me forever!" A familiar voice called from behind the door. Setask grumbled, and pushed herself out of bed, stalking over to the door rather angrily.
She opened the door and saw a rather flustered looking Lillian on the other side, grumbling wistfully. "I'd hoped that we could walk down together, and you know, talk. But I see you don't care enough about today to actually stay awake."
"I had an alarm set for 15 minutes before it was time to leave, if that makes you feel better, ensign. And I can find my way, thank you very much." Setask found herself closing the door and stalking to the bathroom to get ready. She shook with cold as she pulled off the leggings and tank top she kept under her dress uniform to avoid the chaffing of the rarely used fabric. She paused but decided it was time to take another shower, to clear her sleep-fogged mind, and removed her undergarments as well.
She turned the shower knob all the way to the little sun symbol, and soon mist began to fill the small room, as the heat of the water contradicted the coolness of the air. She grasped the hairbrush her mother had given her and brushed out the knots in her hair, breathing in the niceness of the misty air and occasionally dipping her entire head under the water, instead of just her back and shoulders.
When all the tangles were gone, her hair hung half was between her shoulders and elbows. Far too long. The next day would have to be a self-care day, namely getting her hair cut and meditating. A nice refresher before she would have to start making actual plans about the re-launch.
This time, she would have to select her own crew. Nearly 13,000 of the 16,500 crew having perished. A bunch of freshly graduated ensigns would be lined up, and she would have to choose 100 every day, leaving only 50 of the line to be assigned elsewhere.
Tomorrow would be the last true day of vacation she would get. Then it was back to peeling down Borg forces in any way she could and recruiting other ships, forging new alliances to take with her to Unimatrix 1. To the Borg queen.
To clash with beings they couldn't see or hear or feel.
To venture to go where no one else had ever gone, and to have courage in doing so. If they didn't, the Borg would eat them alive.
