Chapter 26: Remember

Helicopters were being lowered in front of a giant mansion; many people were lined up waiting for them to land. As soon as they did the people swarmed them and started unloading them. Boxes full of weapons.

"Make sure you unload all the boxes and take out everything carefully" Zancrow roared over the noise. He surveyed everything and made sure everything was going smoothly. "How are things there?" his earpiece said. Zancrow touched it and reported "Smoothly, everyone here is unloading the weapons Hades had sent here"

"Good, were they prepped of the plan?" Lucas asked through the earpiece. "Yes, they all know that they are going to attack the FTBI with me tomorrow. What about your end?" Zancrow smirked. "Well we received out weapons about an hour ago so everything is unloaded and ready" the blond man replied. "Good, have you spoken to Angel?"

"Yeah, she's taking care of Wendy until teacher orders her to take action" he answered. Then they exchanged a few more words then hung up.

Lucy was looking through the reports and evidence they had received from the school and nothing was helping her get a lead on Wendy's location. Natsu was fast asleep on the couch, she was currently in his house and it was past midnight. The tired blond yawned and started to clean up, when she got everything in order she walked to where Natsu was sleeping.

He looked so tranquil and calm as he slept, and very handsome. She felt very lucky to be with him and she knew her feelings for him are getting stronger each passing day. Lucy stroked his cheek, making him stir. The pink haired man's eyes opened and he blinked a few times and he grabbed her hand that was on his cheek "What's wrong?" he asked with concern. Lucy shook her head and Natsu grabbed her in a hug and pulled her down so she was lying on top of him. Her head was on his chest and he kissed the top of her head, Lucy sighed and closed her eyes. Soon enough she was asleep, Natsu was stroking her head and kissed her head again. He grabbed her in his arms and carried her to bed.

He lied next to her and whispered "Please don't ever leave me Lucy" and he kissed her again and hugged her tight as they lay together on his bed. She stirred and mumbled something in her sleep; he smiled and soon fell asleep.

Lucy woke up in a bed alone, feeling alarmed she bolted up to find a shirtless Natsu walking into the room with a cup of coffee. He looked at her and laughed "Good morning beautiful" and kissed her on the lips. Lucy had a puzzled look on her face "Did I fall asleep?" she asked looking at herself; she was wearing her regular clothes. "Yups" he replied setting his cup down and leaping on the bed, he lied there and smiled at her. "What? You seem too happy" she giggled. Natsu shrugged "Nothing, just grateful. Well let's get back to work sleepy head" he chuckled and got up and went into the bathroom. His girlfriend stared as he left with a confused expression. Then she shook her head and followed him.

After the couple showered and ate breakfast, which was prepared by Grace, they went through all the information and looked for any connections between Zeref and Angel. Of course they found nothing but Lucy thought of something that really changed the course of the investigation.

Gray was cleaning up his office when he heard a knock on the door, he glanced up and saw Juvia smiling "Ready to go?" she asked, leaning on the door frame. "Just a moment" Gray responded and finished cleaning his desk, he dusted his hands off, grabbed his jacket and wallet, and followed Juvia out. They linked arms as they walked to the elevator.

"Want to eat anywhere in particular?" Gray asked as he pushed the button in the elevator. Juvia tilted her head to the side a little and thought for a moment "No, Juvia is fine with whatever you want" she smiled. Gray nodded "Um how about some burgers?" and Juvia nodded, and then said "Let's go visit Erza first". Gray smiled "Of course".

The couple exited the elevator to find Levy and Gajeel arguing, the petite woman was really holding her own as the tall dark haired man snapped back at her. Gray and Juvia just stared as they went at it, Levy saw them staring and breathed out loudly "Excuse me" she said calmly and walked past them and into the elevator. Gajeel stared at the closed elevator door with exasperation; he wiped his hand on his face and kept it on his mouth as he breathed out loudly. Gray opened his mouth to say something but Gajeel held up a hand in silence and walked out the door. The raven haired man closed his mouth and looked at his girlfriend "Well then…" and Juvia nodded awkwardly and they left the FTBI and drove to the hospital.

What they didn't know was someone on the rooftop opposite of the FTBI was taking pictures of the two couples as they did their own thing, the man behind the camera smiled and reported "Yeah, I got the pictures" and he left the rooftop in silence.

Gray and Juvia walked towards the entrance of hospital and saw some familiar faces. "Hey Juvia" Lisanna greeted and hugged the blue haired woman. "Lisanna" she said shocked and glanced behind her and saw Lisanna's boyfriend Laxus, who was the chief's grandson, standing with his arms crossed. Laxus nodded at Gray and Juvia. "What are you two doing here?" Gray asked the couple. "Just visiting gramps, what about you guys?" Laxus responded unfolding his arms as Lisanna grabbed his hand.

"We came to see Erza" the raven haired man muttered, and they all looked down with sad eyes. "We saw Jellal" Lisanna admitted with a small voice.

"I see, well we better get going. See you guys later" Gray said and grabbed Juvia's hand and headed to the entrance. The other couple waved and left quickly. The other two went straight into the elevator after they spoke to the front desk, and headed to her room. They found Jellal inside the room, holding Erza's hand. There was fresh flowers in a vase next to her bed, he turned his head to look at them as they walked in. "You guys" he said, he voice was raspy as he spoke. Juvia smiled and walked towards them, with Gray right behind her. "Hey Jellal, how is she?" Juvia asked the man. Jellal breathed out loudly "The same, no change" he said calmly.

"We'll get them for this Jellal" Gray growled angrily, Jellal chuckled but they knew it wasn't real, just a cover up for how he was really feeling. The blue haired man stood up and kissed Erza's head, stroked her hand and put it gently on the bed. "Good bye" he said to no one in particular and left the room. The nurse walked in but moved to the side as he left, she had pity written all over her face "He comes here every day, brings her new flowers when the others die, and talks to her. Poor man" the nurse said fixing Erza's bed. The couple only nodded their heads, said their good byes and left the hospital.

"Do we actually know what Zeref even looks like?" Lucy thought out loud. Natsu looked at her quizzically "You have a point" he answered staring at her. The intelligent blonde opened up Natsu's computer and searched his name and no images at all came up. "You have got to be kidding me, no pictures" she seethed, Natsu peered to look at the computer "He must have had them all removed".

"Seems so" Lucy said but her face showed how deep in thought she really was. Natsu smiled and pecked her on the cheek, catching her off guard "What do you have us do my pretty lady?" he joked with a smile. She smiled and stared at him with curious eyes "Natsu, do you remember him at all?" she asked in a serious voice.

Her boyfriend's eyes widened "I…uh…maybe…" he mumbled with eyes cast down. Lucy looked at him with eyes filled with care "I'm sorry to ask you this but is there any way the FTBI could get the image from your mind or something?"

He thought for a moment and his eyes widened "Yes there is. At our medical branch there is a machine that can scan memories and record them"

"That's perfect but Natsu I don't want to force you to—"she begin but Natsu shook his head at her and grabbed her cheek "No Lucy, this is something that needs to be done or no one will ever know what Zeref looks like" Natsu said firmly. She smiled and touched his hand on her cheek, she closed her eyes "Are you sure?" her eyes opened and stared into eyes filled with certainty and determination and her spoken question needed no verbal response to be answered.

The drive to the medical branch headquarters took about 20 minutes. Lucy felt nervous but couldn't imagine how Natsu felt, she knew in order for him to get an image of Zeref he would have to delve deep into his memories and identify him. She glanced at him but his expression was blank. "I didn't know we had a medical branch headquarters" Lucy piped up, breaking the silence. "Yeah, it's actually open to the public for special circumstances but all police divisions may use it freely" and Lucy nodded her head as they parked the car. They walked towards the entrance in silence.

They entered and he spoke "We're here to see Dr. Cheney" and the man at the front desk looked up at them with bored eyes "Do you have an appointment?" he asked in a bored tone. "No but please inform him that Natsu Dragneel needs his expertise" her boyfriend insisted. The man stared at him for a moment then grabbed the phone, dialed a number, told whoever was on the other line what Natsu had just said and hanged up the phone. "13th floor, first door you see" the man said with irritation. "Thank you" Natsu smirked and grabbed Lucy's hand and led her into the elevator. "Who is Dr. Cheney?"

"You'll see" he smiled and waited for the elevator door to open. They exited it quickly and walked to the door. Natsu didn't even knock and opened the door. Inside was an all-white interior doctor's office with tons of high tech, expensive machines and to the side was a man in a white lab coat with black hair and a familiar face. "Uncle" Natsu greeted and grabbed the man in a hug. "Hello Natsu, quite a surprise" the man chuckled and glanced at Lucy.

"Hello Lucy, do you remember me?" he smirked. "O-Of course" she blurted out and shook his hand. She now knew who he was, she met him at Natsu's family dinner, and he was Rogue's father. The man chuckled "Must be a surprise to find out I am actually a shrink" and her eyes widened "Why yes, I had no idea" and Dr. Cheney chuckled again then clasped his hands "So Natsu boy, what might you need today?"

Natsu stared at his uncle "I need you to use that memory machine you have here, we need it to look into my old memories and identify a very dangerous criminal" he spoke with certainty. Dr. Cheney nodded his head with understanding "I see and what do these memories pertain to exactly?" he asked curiously. "The night my birth parents were murdered"

Dr. Cheney's eyes widened "A-Are you sure? Natsu that was a very traumatic night". Lucy looked at her boyfriend with fear but his facial expression did not change "I am certain" is all he said. His uncle nodded his head "Alright, follow me"

They were led into another room that had a machine in it that looked like a CAT scan or MRI machine but they all knew what it did and next to it was a couch and armchair. Dr. Cheney called in one of his assistants that was a blond young man named Brian. They changed Natsu into one of those hospital gowns and sat him down on the couch, which was like one a psychologist would use during a session and the doctor sat in the armchair. Brian and Lucy had to leave them but could see them clearly through a glass window.

Lucy stared at them with concerned eyes "What is the doctor going to do to Natsu?" she asked anxiously. "He will put him in a hypnotic state to make him remember the time of the incident, then we will hook him up to the machine and record his memories. Luckily, this machine makes it so he can't actually see the memories" Brian answered quickly; she nodded her head and stared at them quizzically. From the looks of it Dr. Cheney must have told Natsu something he didn't like because he was yelling and objecting something but they couldn't hear. The doctor left the room and walked towards them.

"Doctor what's wrong?" Lucy asked anxiously. His face was grim "You see, this machine can go through a certain memory but you need someone else to be in the memory if you are trying to look for something in particular" he informed, but Lucy's face showed she didn't quite understand. So he continued "Lucy, I need you to be go into Natsu's memory and find that man and identify him"

Lucy bit her lip and looked at Natsu through the room, they locked eyes and she knew he didn't like it, but she had to. "I'll do it" the agent answered with determination, Natsu must have sensed it because his face fell.

Lucy was changed into the same gown as Natsu and sat in the room next to him as the doctor prepped them. He kissed her temple "Are you sure? I don't know exactly what you'll see" her boyfriend warned. She grabbed his hand and squeezed it "Yes, I'm sure. I'm with you on this". Brian and the doctor connected them to machines that showed their vital signs and the doctor began.

"Alright guys, what's going to happen are I'm going to put the both of you in a hypnotic state and hook you up to the machine. I'll tell Natsu what he should think about while Lucy has the head gear on already that we'll hook up to Natsu's. Lucy won't be able to hear anything and will only be told to sleep. While you are in the memory, Natsu will be unconscious and won't be able to hear or see anything until the memory is over. Lucy, you will be in the memory spiritually, you will not have a physical body but you can move around freely in the memory but only the surroundings Natsu remembers. Don't wonder off too far from the memory because you can get lost in Natsu's consciousness. You will see things that will make you feel many emotions but remember it is a memory, nothing can change the outcome" he explained. The couple nodded, Brian came in and set up Lucy's head gear that will connect her to Natsu, and she couldn't hear a thing once it was on.

The doctor brought out a medallion and Natsu stared at it with a smile "Really?" he chuckled ironically. "Yes" his uncle responded and rolled his eyes. Lucy saw the medallion and heard nothing as the two exchanged words. The doctor pointed at his eyes then the medallion. She knew what he meant.

"Follow this with your eyes" he ordered and started moving the medallion back and forth, Natsu and Lucy followed it with their eyes. After about 5 minutes of following it, Natsu's eyes dilated and became empty and so did Lucy's.

"Alright Natsu, I need you to lie down, close your eyes, and listen to me" Dr. Cheney ordered. The agent did what he was told. "Think back to that time when everything happened, the location, time, anything" the doctor said softly and repeated it a few times until Natsu wondered off. Then Dr. Cheney moved on to Lucy and lifted the head gear a bit so he could speak to her "You will now sleep" and she did what she was told.

They lied Lucy down on the couch, secured everything, and then moved Natsu's body to the machine bed. They put on the same head gear as Lucy on him which covered his head and eyes, then connected their head gears and connected him to the machine. Then they strapped his arms, legs, and head to the machine bed. It was only a precaution because they didn't know how his body will react to the memory then turned on the machine. They left them and went into the other room to observe the monitors.

The one monitor showed Natsu's physical body inside the machine, he was still and strapped down. The other one was still blank and it was supposed to be where the memory would be shown from Lucy's perspective. Both their vitals seemed normal and they waited patiently for it to begin.

Lucy's eyes snapped open and all she saw was a house, it was two stories and seemed older but had a cozy feeling to it. It was a pretty green color with a dark brown roof and white trimmings. There was a freshly cut lawn and a paved sidewalk that led to the front door and was surrounded by a nice neighborhood. She glanced at her hands and saw that they were almost see through. She looked around and noticed there was a little boy with pink hair, getting off a school bus. "N-Natsu" she spoke out loud and ran towards the little boy and examined him as he walked towards the house. It was definitely Natsu, he was so cute and tiny, and it made her smile.

As she followed little Natsu into the house, she ended up just walking right through the front door "Whoa" she said amazed as she put her hand through a wall then something caught her attention "Natsu, is that you?" a feminine voice called from another room. "Yeah" Natsu answered the voice. Lucy had a puzzled look on her face as she followed Natsu into the kitchen; she stared at the person in there with complete shock.

In the kitchen stood a beautiful young woman with short straight light brown hair, she was very slim and was wearing jeans and a plaid shirt but it was covered by an apron. Her face was so young and bright. She had a big smile on her face as she scooped her son in a hug; making Natsu laugh as she tickled and kissed him.

Lucy put her hands over her mouth and she felt her eyes water, she put her hands down "Natsu, your mother was beautiful" she smiled and watched the scene with happiness.
