Chapter Twenty-Six

Puck's P.O.V.

When the deadly cannon launched, a high-pitched wail erupted in my ears and I automatically closed them with my hands.

I took a look at Daphne to see if she was okay, but she was the one screaming. She looked like she was in pain, and she ran around like a demented chicken.

I frowned, and cocked my head. But being the good brother-in-law, I grabbed Daphne's wrists, and held her steady.

"Daphne!" I called loudly, trying to get her to calm down.

"P-Puck! How are you—"Daphne gasped, and shook herself. "The juice! It's on us!"

It took me a few minutes to realize what had happened. She had touched a tiny nick of the berry juice, and she was having a hallucination.

I sighed; I knew something would go wrong. I wrapped my arms around Daphne and marched over to the creek.

Don't call me a bad person, but I threw her in. It was just to stop her from hallucinating! As soon as she was in, Daphne let out a choked shriek, and gripped the edge of the grass.

"What was that for?" Daphne exclaimed.

"Long story short. You had a hallucination because you somehow touched the berry juice," I explained, and helped Daphne out.

"Yeah, thaaaaaaanks," Daphne said sarcastically.

Daphne shook herself out, and I grabbed her.

"Let's go back to camp," I said, and she nodded.

While we flew, Daphne was quite chatty.

"So this is it, right?" Daphne whispered, looking over a cloud. "No more Scarlet Hand, no more nothing."

"Yup," I said, grimly watching the horizon.

"So…are you thinking of…doing it again?" Daphne asked hesitantly.

My eyes hardened when I knew what she was talking about. She was talking about having more children.

I was about to snap, but something inside of me crumbled.

"I don't know if I could take it," I said quietly. "Sabrina and me, I doubt we can handle it. We brought two lives into this world, but now, they're dead. We killed lives. We killed the lives by bringing them into the Earth too soon."

"No," Daphne growled automatically. "You guys brought the twins into the world at the right time. They did die, but that's life."

"That didn't help that much," I said, giving Daphne a cracked smile.

"It's still life," Daphne answered. "Life is like this. You're lucky you've gotten used to it. You can heal, and try again with the children. You don't need to fear the accident that wasn't yours."

I didn't say anything. I really wished that the twins were alive. But I had gotten used to it. It was going to get easier.

I was sure it was.
