I reach the opening of the volcano, but the gondola has already been taken down to the crater. The cats look at me, asking what my next move will be. "Brightclaw, what do we do now?" Kiba asks.
"I have a plan, but it is very dangerous." I growl, digging my claws into the earth. "Kiba, you stay here with Skypaw and the cats!" I bark.
"But…" Kiba starts.
"There's no time, and I can't take you all with me. I also can't guarantee your safety!" I snap.
"Brightclaw, I will come with you no matter what." Firestar meows.
"Fine, but just stay out of the way of danger!" I growl. "Kiba, you and Skypaw are to stay though. Firestar is the only cat that is to be with me." I bark. "Firestar, I'm going to have to hold you in between my jaws, are you sure you want to do this?" I ask.
"Yes, but try to be gentle." Firestar meows.
"I will, just do as I say and keep your eyes on me." I bark through clenched teeth. I extend my claws a bit, and drive my right paw into the side of the volcano. I do the same with my other paws, and begin to climb down to the crater.
"Brightclaw, try not to get stuck like the time with the tree." Firestar meows.
"Hey, that was one time! Not to mention that there was a thunderstorm!" I growl through clenched teeth. I look down and see Dina and Rupert cornered by three BB goons. Rupert is standing in front of Dina protectively, while the new robot, DI66-ER is blocked by the goons as well. A teen from the photo that I saw a few days ago is laughing at Dina and Rupert. "Firestar, stay with Typhoon." I growl, tossing the Nycto Ace medal into the air. The wyvern-like vivosaur hovers before me, and gently grabs Firestar with her talons.
"Brightclaw, what do you plan on doing?" Firestar meows.
"Saving my friends!" I growl, letting go of my grip. I plummet straight towards the lava. "Whirlwind, you know what to do!" I bark as my main vivosaur's medal shoots out from my collar. Whirlwind materializes to a size small enough to maneuver around the volcano, but to also act as my wings. I toss my backpack to him, and the item attaches itself to his own back thanks to the modifications that Yuki and Sparky made three years ago, long before the dreaded mission.
I look up at the sky and see Brightshadow fighting Drago in arial combat. Brightshadow's wings are a dark grey color, representing the power he wields, shadow other known as eclipse. Drago's wings are somewhat similar to Blaze's, but they are larger in size due to his large bulk, and are a purer red. Blaze's wings are more like that of a phoenix, always radiating heat, and able to produce flames for offense or defensive measures. I let out a heavy sigh as I head towards the fossil center. I take one look at the claws on my right paw, and know that I will never be able to fly. "Hey Brightclaw, what's the matter?" Hunter asks as he and the rest of our little group comes over.
"Nothing but the face of reality that I can never take to the sky." I sigh, looking up at the clouds.
"You have your pterasaurs right?" Holt asks.
"None of you get it, I can't touch the air with my own wings." I growl, walking off.
The group watches the silver gray furred canine walks into the Fossil Center. "Hunter, has Brightclaw ever been that depressed before?" Holt asks.
"No, she has always been one of the happiest out of the group. The only time that I can recall her being so sad would be after waking up from nightmares." Hunter says.
"Then what could be upsetting her?" Rosie asks. The three then try to think of a solution.
"I can tell you why Brightclaw is so depressed." Barks a familiar hound.
"Blaze!" Hunter exclaims, turning around to see the flame colored angel-hound.
"Brightclaw has always flown on top of her vivosaurs, but she hasn't flown with wings of her own ever since the incident." Blaze barks. "Ever since that day, I had never seen Crystal, until she arrived here." He barks.
"Why can't she fly though?" Holt asks.
"You all should be able to figure it out." Blaze barks, walking away.
"It's her claws isn't it, Blaze." Hunter says, and the flaming furred hound stops in his tracks.
"Yes, they were never shining all the time. Sure a faint glow, but because of her transformation, all her power was sealed within those claws." Blaze barks. "Brightclaw was able to do many things with those claws, but they would drain her of energy after awhile." He explains. "Now that her claws are in a stable form, she doesn't have the power to use the energy for anything but protecting. She used to create wings out of thin air, but those claws hold a different power now." Blaze barks. "That is one of the reasons why she can bring items out of her video games, that is the only thing that her claws can do in her current form." He barks. "When she was battling in her Beta Form, she was able to unleash a lot more power from within her claws than ever before, which is why she had been depleted after the battle." Blaze barks. "The power in her claws is basically her life energy, without it, she could end dead." He barks. "You're lucky that she was able to come back at all." Blaze growls.
Hunter heads to the hotel for his room. "I've got to help Brightclaw." He sighs.
"Thank you guys, this gift will help me find you!" I bark closing my eyes, my mind synchronizing with Whirlwind. The risk of this failing could be fatal to those who cannot withstand obstacles such as lava, but thanks to once being a fire type. Though this risk is even higher for Whirlwind. Only Fighters who can truly connect with their vivosaurs can pull off a stunt like this. If both Fighter and vivosaur can push beyond the mental barrier, their hearts and soul can become one. Granting control over one another's movements in perfect synchronization. This can only be achieved if the Fighter has complete trust in their vivosaur, and vice versa. I feel Whirlwind's fossil energy wrapping around my body in a warm embrace. It feels solid, yet it is only air. The reason for why I don't panic is because I trust my vivosaurs with all my heart. I feel as if Whirlwind is now a part of me as my wings. I would never do this if I knew that he or any of the others would be severely hurt. I open my eyes, and control Whirlwind's wings as if they were my own.
"You have done well, Brightclaw." Whirlwind caws.
"No, we have done well, partner." I bark, looking over my shoulder to see the pterasaur smiling at me. "Let's go save them!" I bark, and Whirlwind nods. I dive down towards the group, and land behind the goons.
"Eh, isn't that the angel-hound that scared of the group from this area?" Goon 1 asks.
"I thought Shadow kidnapped er'?" Goon 2 asks confused, scratching the back of his head.
"Shadow?" Rupert asks.
"Who's Shadow?!" Dina demands, her fear turning into anger.
"That would be me." A somewhat familiar voice barks.
My eyes widen when I sense danger, and I leap into the air. I look down and see a syringe filled with an icy blue liquid. "So you're the one who attacked me?!" I growl, eyeing a jet black alley-hound with ice blue eyes and red claws, hovering above with Whilrwind. He is around Brightshadow's age, but there is something very strange about this alley-hound. His body is surrounded by a dark aura, and my vivosaurs notice this as well. This feeling is a mixture of fear, hatred, anguish, and despair. It is as if the hound was consumed by darkness, and only cares for one thing, victory. I sense no kindness or compass at all, only a killing intent. No hound ever wants to kill anything though, that is why the wild-hounds always had to beg for food that had never been eaten at restaurants. It made things extremely difficult for most to survive, but we were able to live because we depended on each other. I've only felt this kind of intent from two hounds, Shadowheart and Scar.
"Yeah, but it seems that I'll have to take you down once more!" Shadow snarls.
"I see, so you were at the battle as well!" I bark, my anger beginning to take over.
"Yeah, but this time I will be the winner!" Shadow howls, beginning to throw another syringe at me. Before I could react, a large shadow is cast over me. I look up to see a large vivosaur charging are me from the wall of the volcano. It appears to be a super evolver that is from the ankylosaur family, but with its armored back softer and defended by a dome near the head, and a powerful sword-like tail that mimics the movement of a scorpion's tail. I try to fly away, but the vivosaur swings its tail right at me. Before I could do anything, Typhoon shows up with Firestar on her head.
"Typhoon, protect your friend at all costs!" Firestar yowls. I can't believe my eyes, as I watch my former leader command my vivosaur.
"SIS!" I hear someone shout. I look down to see Brightshadow and his vivosaur, Snoozer wounded. Snoozer stands over my brother protectively, and screeches at Shadow. "I'm sending the fossil power that we had saved up for you. Snoozer is still technically in battle if he won't go in his medal!" Brightshadow howls. "Typhoon should be able to use her team skill at your level with another pterasaur!" He barks.
Before I can even select a medal, Phoenix materializes and glares at the large vivosaur. I look at my battle monitor on my fossil gear(a device that shows the battle on a screen on the wrist like a watch). "Great job, Phoenix, now Typhoon can use her team skill!" I bark. "Typhoon, use your Nycto Typhoon on Zanth!" I howl. Typhoon whips up a whirlwind with her wings and fires it at the vivosaur, but thanks to Phoenix firing his Flame Bazooka, it took far more damage than it normally would have with the attack being wind.
"Hah, a Zanth can handle temperatures that go up to 1800 degrees!" Shadow snarls, firing the syringe at me, but it is deflected by Whirlwind's blow away. Instead of him needing fossil power, the power of our bond is more than enough to create our own energy for a small attack.
"You can't take my team and I down so easily!" I bark, ending my turn.
"Heh, take out the small chicken with a Zanth Tail, Quake." Shadow barks. The bulky vivosaur moves towards Phoenix, and swings it tail once more. The poor Dimorphodon is sent back into its medal, but I manage to catch it. "Air vs Earth, looks like I win!" Shadow barks.
"This battle is far from over! Typhoon, use Nycto Wave!" I howl. Typhoon fires a gust of air at the vivosaur, knocking it down to a quarter of its health from being a critical.
"Wait, how did your vivosaur regain LP?!" Shadow growls.
"That's the power of Nycto Wave. She steals the LP that your vivosaur had taken damage from." I explain. "That is one of the reasons why she will be one of my most formidable vivosaurs." I bark. "She refuses to give up even when faced with disadvantages. Typhoon and I share the same goals!" I bark, ending my turn.
"Zanth shot!" Shadow barks, trying to make Typhoon fall asleep, but it only drops her LP down to a quarter left.
"NYCTO WAVE, AND GIVE IT EVERYTHING YOU GOT!" I roar. Typhoon focuses all her energy and fires a huge gust of air at Quake, knocking the vivosaur off the volcano wall and back into Shadow's paws as a medal.
Typhoon and Firestar corner the BB Goons. Dina and Rupert have out their main vivosaurs. Flick who has now been super evolved into a Lugmos, growls as he protects Dina and Rupert. An aquatic-like fire vivosaur, kind of ironic that a fire element that had claws and a sail has fins now. Nightspark, Rupert's Mapo King, his only vivosaur that has its own name, stands tall roaring at the teen with the green mohawk. "Oh great, now I'll have to get to you myself!" Shadow growls, clenching the last syringe in his paw tightly. Before Shadow can even make a move, he is pinned down by another alley-hound. This one has rusty orange fur with red eyes, and a dark gray shirt as well as shorts. At first I would have thought that it would be Blaze, but his fur isn't the same flaming orange that brings joy to my heart. His eyes are also not the same sapphire blue that can calm me in even the worst situations. "Saber, what are you doing?!" Shadow snarls. His snaps his head around to bite his comrade, but the other alley-hound slashes Shadow's flank, leaving a deep gash.
"I clearly stated that no one should attack Brightclaw!" The alley-hound now known as Saber snarls, pressing his muzzle against the hound's face. His paw red from the blood from the slash. The alley-hound digs his claws into his comrade's neck, hitting the right pressure points to knock Shadow out. "You are to stay at the base, you have been consumed by darkness." He barks. "You're lucky that I got here in time, Lester!" Saber barks, looking at the teen who is scared out of his mind. "The darkness on these islands are causing more and more hounds to lose control. Soon, there won't be any angel-hounds left, only bloodthirsty animals!" Saber growls. "The only way that an angel-hound is safe is if they accept the darkness within their hearts, or they will be consumed by hate and envy!" Saber barks. "Come on, we are getting back to base." He barks. "Hopefully we can stop the true menace before things are too late." Saber growls, pressing a button on a hidden collar. All of the BB Brigade are teleported out of the volcano, but something else catches my eye. Before the BB Brigade dissapears, I see the other pup with them on Saber's back.
'No!' I think as I slowly fly to where Dina and Rupert are. After landing, Whirlwind retreats back into his medal. My backpack falls onto the ground while I land into Dina's arms.
"Brightclaw, are you okay?!" Dina asks, as I struggle to stay conscious. Rupert runs over to Dina.
"Here, this should help her!" Rupert exclaims, handing Dina something. My vision is too blurry to tell what it is. "That one wild-hound that attacked Comet gave me some medical items that seem to help angel-hounds." He explains. "Just make Brightclaw eat that berry, and she could regain her strength." Rupert says.
"Thanks Rupert!" Dina exclaims, her face slightly pink. Dina tries to force my jaws to part, but with barely any strength left, my jaws stay closed. "Brightclaw, you need to eat this to regain your strength!" Dina exclaims.
I look at Brightclaw, her eyes begin to close once more. I hug her tightly, not wanting my hero to die. Typhoon lands next to us with Firestar. The flame colored tomcat dashes over to Brightclaw. Though all Rupert hears is plain meowing, I can understand him clearly. "Brightclaw, are you really going to give up here?!" He hisses angrily. "The Brightclaw that I know would never quit!" He yowls. "Prove that you are the warrior that saved the clans and the forest!" Firestar meows. "Prove that your clanmmates deaths had not been in vain by keep fighting!" He yowls.
"What is that cat yowling about?" Rupert asks
"He doesn't want Brightclaw to give up." I say as Brightclaw begins to move. I let go and back away from her. A low growl rises in the hound's throat. Brightclaw raises to her paws, throws her head up and howls into the air. I look into Brightclaw's eye and see hope within it. Her eyes shine with hope and determination. Her claws that had begun to lose their light shine bright with power. I can feel the power surrounding Brightclaw's entire body. It feels warm, yet powerful as if she isn't alone. I can faintly see the outline of a few hounds, and cats, yet they seem to be made from stars.
"That's the spirit my friend!" Firestar meows, walking over to Brightclaw. She shakes her pelt off, ridding it of dust. The outlines of the hounds and cats fading as Brightclaw's claws return to their normal brightness.
"I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of my friends." Brightclaw barks, looking at me. I then notice that she is also looking at Rupert. "It seems that you finally took my advice Rupert. Don't worry about your father, he is only worried about you." She smiles. "I will speak with him after today, and sort things out." Brightclaw explains.
I feel my heart swell with joy. Rupert will be able to be part of the patrol team with us. "Do you really mean it, Brightclaw?" Rupert asks.
"I am a hound that keeps my word. Also, my own partner's parents' felt concern for him and I when we were in our level up battle." Brightclaw barks. "Hunter about gave his mom a heart attack when we were hit with a team skill, but thanks to our bond of friendship, victory was ours." She explains.
"Thank you so much Brightclaw!" I exclaim, hugging her before running back over to Rupert in a hug.
'You're enjoying this way too much Dina.' Flick sighs, but I ignore him.
I smile as Dina lets go of Rupert. 'She is almost just like you, Brightclaw.' Slash growls from within his medal.
'Yeah, but I am far better at concealing my emotions.' I tell him. I look over to Brightshadow and see him limping towards me. His right arm looks like it might have been dislocated from Snoozer crashing into the wall. His shoulder also seems to be bleeding slightly. I rush to his side and let him lean on my flank. "Take it easy, there is no way that you'll be able to get out of here on your own, let alone protect your partner in this condition." I bark. "We'll have Yuki take a look at that shoulder and leg." I bark. "For now, I'll use what I can to make you a makeshift sling." I bark, taking the one bandana off my neck and a spare from my backpack. The bandanas can draw out any toxins and prevent poisoning as well.
"What are you doing?" Brightshadow barks.
"You'll see, Brightshadow." I bark, tying the two bandanas together and hold my brother's arm still as I wrap the first bandana around his arm to hold it up, while the other goes over the back of his neck. "Sis, that's your favorite bandana!" He barks, the dark gray bandana turning red with his blood.
"Who cares about that?" I bark. "I can always wash or replace it, but I can't replace family. You should know that." I bark. "I almost lost you once." I bark.
Once the arm is held by the one bandana and the other bandana slung over his neck, I knot the two last pieces together and tighten it with my teeth. "You told me that Hunter gave you that bandana though! It was his gift to you after your first bandana was destroyed from a fire!" Brightshadow barks.
"Yes, that is what makes this bandana so special to me, and it should help heal you with any power of the bond that the two of us held for the years that I've had it." I bark. "Besides, Hunter knows that I would never lose a gift that he would give to me." I bark. "I treasure those gifts as much as my friends, but my heart knows what takes priority." I bark. "Protecting my family, and those aren't just my instincts, it is the love that I hold dear to my family." I bark, helping Brightshadow stand on his hind legs, and support him by his other shoulder.
"Sis, when and where did you learn to do this?" Brightshadow asks.
"Well to be honest, I made it myself." I bark.
"You've never had a broken arm before though." Brightshadow barks.
"That is true, but I thought that I should try to make one in case something bad were to happen to myself or my friends." I bark. "I even once have made a makeshift splint for my hand when I hurt my wrist after arm wrestling Drago." I bark. "My wrist kept hurting, so I kept my hand and wrist still by tying my bandana around them in a certain way." I explain. "Though they aren't perfect." I bark.
"Well, you always do come prepared." Brightshadow barks.
Soon, Kiba and Skypaw come down with Kent. Sandstorm, Graystripe, and Dustpelt following from on top of a green theropod that appears to have wings on the backs of its legs. It's body is more like that of a praying mantis, but has short arms and a slender tail with a barb at the end. The face also seems to have wings on the side of it. There is a rider on the vivosaur as well. The rider is a boy around twelve years old with flaming red hair. He is wearing a black shirt with dark gray pants. An ash gray bandana tied around his neck, but in a different way than most. This kid wears his bandana in the same way that Holt wears his own, making it look more like a small scarf. "Brightclaw, are you okay?" Graystripe meows as he and the others dash over to me.
"Yeah, just dizzy from being hit with a wave of dark aura. That alley-hound intended to kill me." I bark, shocking everyone.
"Angel-hounds, alley-hounds, and especially wild-hounds don't kill though!" Brightshadow barks.
"Yes, there have only been two that had tried to kill other creatures, though one was able to steal the lives of the ones we loved." I bark. "It is extremely rare for any kind of hound to show any killing intent." I bark. "If it wasn't for that other alley-hound, I would most likely be dead by now." I bark. "After being weakened by the cold, I would be completely vulnerable to any attacks." I growl. "All hounds need to be taken out of the tournament!" I bark.
"Why though?!" The kid that brought my friends asks.
"The alley-hound that calls himself, Saber. He said that the darkness on the islands are causing hounds to lose control." I bark. "You must be Casey's partner, Flare?" I bark, noticing his eyes. Silver outside the rim of his eyes, green in the middle, but the most(no pun intended) eye catching feature are the starbursts of golden around the pupil.
"Yes, that would be me." Flare says, petting his vivosaur that I can now identity as a Teffla. "Would you really believe something that the BB Brigade says?" He asks, looking at me.
"Seeing how Shadow just attempted to bite his own comrade confirms it." I bark. "No hound is safe now, we all could lose the light that makes us who we are." I bark, digging my claws into the ground.
"Sis then you…" Brightshadow begins.
"Yeah, it would be just like Foxheart would have wanted." I bark. "You could be safe, if you stay in your human form." I bark.
"Once my arm heals, I willo do that." Brightshadow barks. "You always do your best to protect me." He barks, tears rolling down his face. "I just don't know what I can do to help you." He growls.
"Brightshadow, just listen to your heart, and everything will be okay." I bark. "I need to speak with Rupert's father now." I bark, getting out my cellphone which was specially made for the members of Team Fiery-Spark, all phones holding the contacts of many Vivosaur Island acquaintances. One of them being Rupert's father. My phone was made to shrink down and fit into my collar whenever I don't need it. It is shaped like a Dino Medal and has the air symbol on the back. "Later everyone." I bark placing the phone back in my collar, heading up with Skypaw, Kiba, and my clanmates.
We head back to the hotel on Ribular and order a movie and some dvds to keep Skypaw and Kiba busy. The movie that the two chose was "Pokemon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back", one of the good old classics that I haven't heard of since leaving for Vivosaur Island with Hunter. The dvds that they ordered was the first and second season of SAO(Sword Art Online), one of the reasons being that Skypaw somehow knows how to wield a sword.
'Brightclaw, how would Skypaw learn to fight with a sword?' Storm asks.
'I should let Skypaw know this as well, Storm.' I tell him. "Skypaw, I need to tell you something. Kiba, you may come as well." I bark.
"Yes, what do you need to tell us,…Brightclaw." Skypaw asks, nervous by calling me by my name instead of mom.
"You probably are learning how to use a sword from your father, right?" I ask, and Skypaw nods her head. "When I first met your father, Leo, he was training to become a master of swords like his dad. His family sword has been passed down from generation to generation." I explain to them. "He had wanted protect me ever since he discovered my secret, and vowed to protect me with the blade that would be passed down him." I bark. "Though he never did get the chance to have the blade bestowed upon him, because Leo had decided to try and find me before the ceremony could take place, Leo had become Blaze in order to find me." I bark.
"Did dad not ever follow you to the forest?" Skypaw asks.
"No, he was actually the first angel-hound to find his partner." I bark. "Rosetta Richmond, but you all probably know her as Rosie." I bark. "I know nothing of how Blaze grew up, while most of us grew in the forest." I bark. "Sparky must've been captured by humans, and ended up with Holt as a pet. In the end, Sparky told Holt all about the angel-hounds like I did myself." I bark. "The only ones that had escaped the humans during the forest had to be your uncle, Brightshadow, and Lucy's partner, Yuki." I bark.
"How can you tell?" Kiba asks.
"Those two had come to Vivosaur Island at very different times, and helped us. Well, Brightshadow crashed into me when I was about to catch the BB Bandits." I bark. "Anyways, I need to speak to someone important." I bark, heading for the kitchen.
Once I enter the kitchen, Squiro's(air element chicken vivosaur) medal flies out of my collar. She furiously squawks at me, and I still can't understand a word that she says. Ever since Rosie found Squick, that little chick led us to the rest of his friends that were fossilized eggs as well. Hunter found the fire element, Squire. Holt found the earth element, Squirth. Lucy found the water element, Squilk, and I found Squiro. They are are only vivosaurs that don't have nicknames since they couldn't even speak. It has been three years since we found them, and Squiro has been the only one who hasn't spoken through telepathy yet. She is still very young, and it is like raising Brightshadow all over again, but even harder than before. "Squiro, we will find them, just please wait." I bark, petting the chick-like vivosaur. Her feathers finally laying flat. Out of all the chicks, Squiro and Squire were and still are the most troublesome, yet they do their best to protect everyone. Squiro then hops onto my shoulder, Whirlwind materializes out of his medal in his chibi form, and stays on my other shoulder to keep Squiro in check. He has been like a father to the young chick, and that led to him becoming my main vivosaur. His kindness and compassion was able to synchronize with my own, and we truly became connected at heart. Slash didn't mind at all, he sees Whirlwind as a brother, and respects his strength. That is why I still rely on Slash as well, for his understanding and friendship. I smile as the small chick slips into slumber. I dial the number on my phone. It takes several minutes, but my call eventually goes through.
"I am a very busy man, so make this fast." A male voice says.
"Figures that you would say that." I bark.
"Wait, are you one of the members from Vivosaur Island's Team Fiery-Spark?!" The voice says, surprised at my own voice.
"Yes, you know me a bit better though, Mr. Arashi." I bark.
"I see, what is it you want, Brightclaw?" Mr. Arashi asks.
"Glad to see that you are still the same after becoming famous with your company." I bark.
"One must act tough to not lose business." Mr. Arashi says.
"Yeah, that isn't true, but you may want to have a word with Rupert." I bark.
"Why, is he getting soft?" Mr. Arashi asks.
"Like me, no, but he needs those emotions to become stronger." I bark.
"How would emotions make someone stronger though?" Mr. Arashi asks, clearly confused.
"You must have seen the recorded battle against Ghunash, correct?" I ask.
"Yes, it is unbelievable that you and your team had stopped such a monster." Mr. Arashi says, his voice shaky as he remembers seeing the destruction of the giant monster on screen.
"That was only possible due to the bond between my partner and I, and the bond between all of our vivosaurs and the other hounds from all over." I bark. "Our emotions make us who we are, and you must let Rupert decide who he is for himself." I bark. "You have emotions yourself, correct?" I ask. "You care for your wife, as well as your son." I bark. "You wanted to protect Rupert from the awful taste of defeat, but you know that nobody is perfect." I bark. "When you are faced with a loss, you gain knowledge of how to become stronger. That is what makes us who we are." I explain. "I myself am not perfect, because I have lost battles as well, but I never gave up. I just kept moving forward, and made it to where I am now." I bark. "You should let Rupert know what you feel in your heart, that way he would understand why you had him block out most of his emotions." I bark, hanging up the phone.
