Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter
It was the middle of November before Artemis had a sudden realization; the Malfoys used to have family magic. Rushing the hallways trying to find Catherine; Artemis couldn't believe that she had forgotten that the one painting in Malfoy Manor had told her that the Malfoys used to have family magic. Turning a corner Artemis spotted Catherine at the end of the hall, "Catherine!" she shouted.
Catherine turned around and saw Artemis running to her, "What is it Artemis?"
"I know."
"Know what?"
"About family magic."
Catherine stared at Artemis in sudden realization, grabbing Artemis she pulled her into an empty room before answering, "How do you know about it?" Catherine demanded
"Because I have the Black family magic, Charles does too." explained Artemis
"That's impossible; no English Blacks have had that magic in centuries."
"Charles is Spanish and we're not sure why I have it."
"I still don't believe you; now mind your own business." Catherine turned and left the room leaving Artemis standing there.
Catherine's POV:
Catherine rushed down the hall it wasn't because she was in a hurry she just didn't want Artemis to catch up to her. She came to a stop near a tapestry on the seventh floor and sat down against the wall. How could I not know about Artemis and Charles, my parents surely would have known that they had the Black's magic, Catherine thought. Catherine was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even notice a door appear in front of her and a person walk out until the person was directly in front of her. Glancing up she found Teddy standing there.
"Are you okay?" Teddy asked
"Why would you care?" Catherine mumbled
"Because I promised Artemis that I would try my best to be nicer to you, I wasn't given the greatest impression of Malfoys when I was growing up."
"So you took it out on me?"
"Well…yeah pretty much it's not like I could start yelling at eight year old little Scorpius, my Gran would kill me."
"Who's Scorpius?"
"Draco Malfoy's son, you don't know him?"
"Well no my family has been in France for centuries."
"Oh, I guess Artemis was right, sorry for assuming."
"Ravenclaws tend to be right." Catherine grinned as she said this
"Yeah, yeah, so really are you okay?"
"I'm confused."
"About what?" Teddy asked as he joined Catherine on the floor
"My family moved here to avoid problems our family's magic was having in France and now I find out that there are families here in England that have family magic still and my parents said that there wasn't."
"But Professor Fang told us in History of Magic that there no more families that have family magic in England, she said that they were all in mainland Europe." said Teddy confused
"Seriously, you've never heard of it before History of Magic?" Catherine was confused, how could Teddy not know
"Yeah, History of Magic was the first time that I had heard about the topic."
"But your family comes from a very strong tradition of family magic."
"Huh? The Lupins had family magic?"
"No not your father's family, from your mom's side, the Blacks has very powerful family magic."
"Really? My Gran never mentioned that."
"You're Gran doesn't have the magic?" Now Catherine was really confused, how could Artemis have the family magic but not her Grandmother?
"Nope unless she isn't telling me something, what would it look like?"
"Well they say that the Blacks can control lightening and can shift at will into large black wolfs."
"Like werewolves?"
"No like an animagus."
"Right, well I've never seen her do either of those things so I guess she doesn't have the magic."
"Have you ever done those things?" Catherine was now curious if both twins had the family's magic
"Nope, I do get more moody around the full moon though but we've decided that its just because of my dad being a werewolf."
"Oh, what about Artemis?"
"Not that I know of, I don't even think she gets moody around the full moon but if she does I never notice it."
Catherine couldn't believe it Teddy had no idea that his sister had the magic of the Black family, Why would she keep that a secret? thought Catherine.
"Why are you wondering? Teddy asked now curious as to why Catherine was bring up this whole topic of family magic
"Huh oh well I was curious that's all."
"Okay then."
"Where did you come from anyways? I don't remember hearing footsteps."
"My godfather Harry told me how to get into the Room of Requirement, it took a while to fix after the war but it works now."
"The Room of Requirement?"
"It's a room that becomes what ever you need it be, watch."
Teddy stood up and walked back and forth in front of the tapestry three times. To Catherine's surprise a door appeared from the previously empty wall. Turning back to look at Catherine he laughed at the shocked look on her face, "Come on inside its really cool." Teddy offered his hand to her and helped her stand up before entering the room. Catherine couldn't believe it they appeared to be standing in the Gryffindor Common room except for the fact there seemed to be a Quidditch Pitch off to one side. "This is amazing," Catherine said as she walked around the room.
"Yeah it's nice not to have a bunch of the younger students bothering you all the time or constantly hearing conversations going one." said Teddy as he flopped down in one of the chairs
"And you can practice Quidditch in here too?"
"The room changes its size so that there is plenty of space, I have no idea how it does it."
"There have to be so many complex charms at work here; one to change the size, another to make anything you want appear." Catherine trailed off as she listed different charms and spells that could be at use in the room
"Okay Ms. Ravenclaw whatever you say." shouted Teddy from his chair
Catherine blushed and headed over to where Teddy was sitting proceeding to sit on his lap, "Well I'm sorry for being who I am," she said playfully
"I never said that it was a bad thing." Teddy said as he smiled at her
"Good because if your sister wants us to get to know each other better will have to accept one an other."
"Of course and I think it's very cute when you ramble off on some topic."
"You think it's cute?"
"Very." Teddy said as he decided to act on impulse and leaned forward to place a small kiss on Catherine's cheek
Catherine blushed even more, "Just how well do you plan on getting to know me Mr. Lupin."
"Well take that a step at a time."
"Sounds good, now I am going to go back to my dorm." Catherine stood up and before she could walk out of the room, Teddy had jumped up to offer to walk her back which she graciously accepted.
Regular POV:
Artemis couldn't believe what she heard students gossiping about the next day, there is no way that Teddy and Catherine are dating she thought. Walking through the hall she had yet to find either person to confirm or deny the rumors. Just as she was giving up and heading back to the common room she heard footsteps behind and turned around to find Teddy and Catherine walking hand in hand.
"There you guys are! I've been looking for you like all day." exclaimed Artemis
"Why were you looking for us?" Teddy asked as they stopped next to Artemis
"To ask you guys if you are really dating and judging by the fact you two are holding hands I'm taking that as a yes."
"Yes, we started last night." said Catherine
"Last night? After I talked with you?" asked Artemis
"Pretty much, Teddy found me and we ended up talking, he showed me the Room of Requirement and one thing lead to another."
"You showed her the room?" Artemis questioned Teddy
"Well yeah, I had walked out of it and she asked me where I had come from so I showed her." said Teddy
"Well I'm happy for you two! I'll see you both later." Artemis continued on her path back to the common room.
"She took that well." said Teddy once Artemis was out of ear shot
"Why wouldn't she?" asked Catherine
"I don't mean that she would hate us being together; I just mean I'm surprised that she didn't say I told you so to me."
"And why would she say that?"
"Since she has been telling me to get to know you better."
"Haha that is true maybe she'll say that another time." Laughing Teddy and Catherine continued towards the Ravenclaw common room where Teddy gave Catherine a good night kiss before returning to the Gryffindor common room.
Sitting in the library the next day Artemis was joined at her table by Victoire Weasley.
"Have you heard the horrible news?" Victoire asked Artemis
"What horrible news?" Artemis asked the thirteen year old
"Teddy's dating that Malfoy girl! How could you not be upset?"
"Because Catherine is a friend of mine, so why would I be upset?"
"But I'm supposed to go out with Teddy; Grandma Weasley has been saying it for years we make such a cute couple."
"Victoire you're thirteen you have plenty of time before you start dating anyone."
"But Aunt Ginny had a crush on Uncle Harry when she was eleven."
"And they didn't start going out until he was in his sixth year; they even dated other people before they went out! What if you find someone who is better than Teddy?"
"I would never find someone who is better than Teddy! How dare you say that, I thought that you would be on my side."
"I just want my brother to be happy, he is happy right now so I see no reason to change that, if he ends up being happy with you later on in life than so be it."
"You'll see I'll make him happy!" Victoire stood up from the table and stormed out of the library. Her spot was replaced by Charles, "What's wrong with her?"
"She thinks that she should be dating Teddy." explained Artemis
"Right then so girl stuff."
Artemis rolled her eyes, "Yes girl stuff."
"All I needed to know then, you wouldn't happen to have a rune book on water related runes would you?" Charles asked
"I don't think so. Why? Are you planning on making your own sea?"
"No but I am planning on doing something with a river for our runes project."
"You do realize that the project is due in less than a month right."
"I know, I know I'm almost done, have you finished?"
"Actually yes, I just don't know if it will work."
"What is it supposed to do?"
"I changed the runes so that it can bring back things that have been lost to time."
"Lost to time? What does that even mean?"
"That they are lost it just sounds cool if you say lost to time."
"So you should be able to bring back lost items."
"In theory but so far nothing happens when I activate the runes."
"Maybe you just need more magic."
"And how in Merlin's name am I supposed to figure out how to generate more magic before the end of term?"
"I have no idea you are the person who is in Ravenclaw."
"Well sometimes I forget you're in Slytherin, how on Earth did you end up there anyways there are time that I feel that the hat placed you and Derek in the wrong house."
"Has Derek been bothering you again?"
"Not for a while and I'd rather keep it that way."
That could just mean that he is planning something though."
"Oh now look who the paranoid one is, by the way I know why Catherine needed a big room."
"Why?"
Artemis leaned closer to Charles before whispering, "She has the Malfoy family magic so she can turn into a dragon, those do take up a lot of room."
"Oh wow, I didn't realize the Malfoy's had family magic."
"Really? She knew the Blacks had family magic although she still doesn't believe me that you and I have it."
"I figured that the Malfoys didn't have it anymore, but, I guess it's just the Malfoys here in England that doesn't have the family magic. Why doesn't she believe you?"
"Since the English Blacks haven't had family magic for centuries, she told me to mind my own business."
"Has she brought it up since?"
"No she hasn't, maybe I'll bring it up to her another time."
"Sounds like a plan, maybe I'll bring it up to her if you really want to talk to her about it."
"No its okay, if the topic comes up then it comes up. Come on I'll help you find that book you need." Artemis packed up her books before dragging Charles into the shelves of books
The weeks went by and soon everyone was caught up in doing their own assignments for classes before winter break. Artemis hardly saw any of her friends let alone Teddy as she focused more and more time into figuring out how to get her runes project to work. Teddy and Catherine were still dating much to the annoyance of Victoire and Charles had actually summoned a river with his runes although it was a complete accident and flooded the whole floor of the castle.
One night Artemis found herself once again in front of her replica of Stonehenge trying to think of a way to increase her magic. As she paced around the replica her ears picked up a strange noise from outside the door, it sounded like scratching. Her inner wolf began to growl and her teeth grew into fangs as she growled at the door. The scratching sound stopped and a low growl came from the other side of the door before Artemis could move the sound of claws on stone could be heard as the animal ran down the hall away from the door. Artemis opened the door just in time to see a tail go around the corner letting her wolf take control she ran after the animal, not bothering to take notice of the full moon outside.
Charles POV:
At the same time Charles was sitting in the library working on an essay when his ears perked up to the sound of a low howl coming from within the castle. Glancing around the library he realized that Artemis wasn't there. He rushed over to the table that Alexandra was sitting at.
"Where's Artemis?" Charles asked hurriedly
"She went up to work on her runes project after dinner, Charles are you alright? Your eyes look yellow."Alexandra said concerned
"I'm fine just stay in library I'm going to go and find Artemis." Charles said this as he started to run out of the library leaving a confused Alexandra behind. He just hoped that he found Artemis before something happened.
Catherine's POV:
Teddy was walking me back to the common room when we literally ran into Charles.
"Have either of you see Artemis?" Charles practically shouted
"Not since dinner." Teddy answered as I looked at Charles' appearance his eyes were very yellow looking while his teeth had a point to them, even his hair had gotten blacker. It was then that I realized that Artemis had been telling me the truth; both she and Charles had the Black family magic.
"Charles what's wrong?" I asked trying to convey that I knew about their family magic
Charles looked me in the eye and I shifted my eyes just enough for him to notice the more dragon appearance of them, "I need you to come with me." Well I wasn't expecting that answer. "Sure thing, Teddy I'll see you later."
"Wait what's going on?" asked Teddy
"We will explain later Teddy, I just need to find Artemis right now." said Charles
"But she is my sister!" Teddy argued
"Yes and when we find her I'll bring her to you."
"You better." Teddy said to Charles before turning to me, "Be careful."
"I will." I say to him as I join Charles in running down the hallway.
Artemis's POV:
Running through the castle Artemis began to shift until she was in her wolf form, chasing after the wolf in front of her. As she got closer to it Artemis noticed that something seemed different. This wolf wasn't her size or even Charles' size it was much smaller, almost the size of the werewolf that had attack her and Charles a few years ago. The werewolf reached the stairs leading into the Entrance Hall and ran down them while Artemis stopped at the top. Once the werewolf reached the bottom it looked back up at her and howled. Artemis howled even louder in response and then heard the sound of running from behind her. Turning Artemis saw Charles and Catherine running towards her both had started to transform. Without a backwards glance Artemis took off down the stairs and ran after the werewolf out of the castle, Charles and Catherine went after them neither of them noticing Teddy standing near the doors.
Once on the lawn the werewolf turned towards Artemis and tried to bite her. Artemis got out of the way just in time and proceeded to bite the werewolf in return. Charles, now fully shifted, circled the two looking for a chance to take down the werewolf while, Catherine stood off to the side covered in scales with her wings out. As the three wolves continued their fight Catherine was the first to notice the wizards gathered at the door to the castle. Before she could do anything about it the medium size wolf that was Charles went flying past her having been thrown by a second large werewolf that joined the fight. Artemis growled in anger and her growl was accompanied by lighting striking the ground in front of her. She charged the werewolves biting the smaller one and tossing him in to a tree knocking him unconscious. The other werewolf ran at her and bit into her shoulder causing Artemis to cry out in pain. Charles rammed the werewolf off of Artemis and once he got the werewolf away from them a spell shot across the lawn hitting the werewolf in the chest. Artemis turned to look at the group of wizards and noticed Harry with his wand out and trained on the werewolf along with a large section of the Auror Department including Kingsley. Harry shot another spell at the werewolf causing it to run off into the woods leaving the smaller werewolf behind.
Catherine shifted back and watched as Charles and Artemis did the same as Harry and Kingsley ran towards them having the other aurors stay behind.
"Are you alright?" Kingsley asked Artemis as he reached her
"My shoulder hurts like hell." Artemis said grasping her bleeding shoulder
"Well need to get you up to the hospital wing to get that looked at." said Kingsley
"Charles do you know who that was?" Harry asked
"The large werewolf no, but I think that smaller one there is Derek Flint, Artemis said that she thought he was a werewolf I guess she was right." answered Charles
"Well take him into custody, let's get back inside before more come." Harry levitated the unconscious werewolf as the small group walked back to the castle doors. Just as they reached them a figured rushed out.
"What the bloody hell was all of that!" shouted Teddy his hair a bright red. Artemis paled when she saw her brother; this was not the way that she had wanted him to find out about her shifting ability.
"Teddy, how long were you there?" asked Harry shocked to see his godson there
"Long enough to see werewolves fighting and then two of them turning out to be my sister and Charles!"
"For one thing your sister and Charles are not werewolves they just have animagus forms that are wolves and why don't you come with us up to the hospital wing Teddy and we'll explain all of this." said Harry trying to reason with Teddy but it didn't seem to be working as Teddy turned on Catherine next
"And you knew about this! Hell you were changed too! Why didn't you tell me!" Teddy shouted at Catherine who backed away from her angry boyfriend
"Teddy that is enough! Stop shouting at everyone and come with us and we'll explain what is going on." said Harry
"No wonder mom didn't want to keep you dad would hate you if he knew that you were a wolf." Teddy snarled at Artemis glaring at his sister
Artemis paled even further as her eyes filled with tears at her brother's words, "Mom gave me to Kingsley to protect me! She did it out of love and you have to idea what you're talking about!" Artemis shouted at Teddy before pushing past him and running into the castle. The air around her began to crackle with lighting as her magic grew with her upset state.
Artemis ran until she reached the room with her Ancient Runes project, never once did she look back at the people running after her. Without a second thought Artemis activated the runes in the Stonehenge replica the lighting spread though out the room as her magic expanded and brought the runes to life. A bright light blinded Artemis and she felt herself on the fringe of passing out, blackness creeping into her vision. Before she did faint she noticed to figures standing in the middle of Stonehenge, "Mom? Dad?" Artemis called out as she fell to floor faintly hearing a response of "Artemis" from the women with pink hair who was making her way towards her.
