You're Not The Only One

Chapter Twenty-Four: Back at the Farm

John reappeared in front of the farmhouse, with Clark in his arms. His brother was exhausted. John helped a staggering Clark walk into the property, one arm around his brother's waist, and his brother's arm around his shoulders.

"Come on, Clark. We're almost there. Soon you can get some sleep, just a few metres. Stay with me." Clark laughed weakly. "I'm... Not an invalid... Shut up..." John released a chuckle and kept walking, refusing to listen to his brother's complaints.

When they reached the front door, John pushed the handle down with his elbow and helped Clark inside. Clark had unceremoniously slumped down at the table, while John walked over to the sink to pour his brother a glass of water.

Once John handed his brother the water, he made his way to the front door to close it. A sudden chill hit the farm, and John knew his parents were intolerant to the cold. When he quietly closed the door, he saw a powder blue car pull up.

He looked at the clock on the wall before rubbing his eyes, thinking he was imagining things. Chloe stepped out of the car and ran up the steps. John opened the door just in time to see (and feel!) Chloe jump into his arms and kiss him passionately.

John grinned and kissed his girlfriend. "Miss me, Princess?" Chloe punched John's shoulder and grinned. "Shut up. You already know the answer to that." John laughed and kissed his girlfriend again before the pair walked inside.

When Chloe saw Clark asleep at the table, she grinned. "The weekend too much for him?" John nodded. "Yeah, he's exhausted. Luckily we caught the last bus. It was a nightmare waking him up when we got back to Smallville. Thankfully, we hitched a lift from Marie. How did it go at your grandparents? Want some coffee?" Chloe nodded and sat down at the table. "I'd love some. Time to put your barista skills to the test, Mr. Kent!"

John smirked and whipped up Chloe's usual from The Talon, a Spicy Chai Latte. He'd bought some ingredients from the coffee house at the end of his last shift in the holidays. Whenever Chloe or Lana came round, John made their usual beverages they'd have at The Talon. John always added his personal touch, much to the delight of the customers and the management.

When John had made the drinks, he sat down next to Chloe and handed her the Latte. John opted for a triple espresso. Exhaustion was clear on his face, and he was ready to drop. Chloe placed her hand on the table and opened it, grinning as John immediately linked his fingers with her own. Chloe tilted her head to one side and gazed at her boyfriend. "What's wrong?" John sighed. "I did it again, Princess." "What did you do?" John gave his girlfriend a sheepish look. I left my camera in Metropolis. I'd a klutz." Chloe laughed quietly. "Yeah, but you're my klutz." She took a sip of her drink and grinned. "This is good! You continue to impress me."

John shot his girlfriend a mock glare and laughed at her. Chloe poked her tongue out at her boyfriend and suddenly the pair burst into laughter for no apparent reason. A loud groan from the other end of the table ceased the happy moment. "WOULD YOU TWO QUIT IT!? I'm trying to sleep!" John squeezed his girlfriend's hand and stood up from the table, walking over to his brother. He grabbed Clark's shoulders and pulled his brother to his feet. "Come on, sleepyhead. The land of slumber awaits.

Clark didn't struggle as he was led upstairs to his room. "S'fine. Get it over with..." When John had tucked Clark in (to really annoy his brother!), he walked back downstairs and took Chloe's hand. He gave her a mock-pleading look. "Walk with me, Princess?" Chloe smiled, nodded and allowed her boyfriend to lead them out of the house.

As they walked, John smirked at Chloe. "So, what did you tell your grandparents about me?" Chloe's lips were a thin, grim line. John was instantly worried. "Well, I told them that we've had problems and that I was planning to break up with you." John removed his hand from Chloe's and turned around, walking back inside. Chloe turned to face John's back and ran toward him.

"John! I was kidding! Come on, you know we'd never break up!" John stopped in his tracks and remained there for a few moments before turning around and taking Chloe in his arms. "Shut up and kiss me, Princess." Chloe happily kissed her boyfriend. She thought to herself while they kissed. 'I'll get you back, just you wait!'.
