Everyone laid in wait, searching for the reasons that they had made this journey. The dense foliage obscuring them from view enveloped the group in vivid, lush tones of green, allowing them to observe with relatively no chance of getting caught. David grumbled a bit as he was not the kind to lay in the dirt and hide, no he wasn't the kind, but he would not risk the chance to save Siren.
Marki was next to him, her heart beating in her ears, so loud that she felt like anyone could hear it. They laid there, in those bushes, for hours just waiting for their chance. There was a commotion that caused all the guards and everyone else to run to the center of camp.
Rion only gave the others a seconds notice before leaving his spot and running into the camp. He knocked out two guards that were lagging behind. Marki was right behind him with her arms aflame, going after enemies before they could shout out an alarm.
"Shit!" Igneel hissed under his breath.
"What are you waiting for? Let's go!" Adrian grabbed the collar of his friend's shirt and yanked him out of the bushes.
Max and Jey were already gone; they were so far ahead that they were out of Adrian and Igneel's range of sight. The sky darkened and the area around them went dark; that's when the real fighting began. Max and Jey were surrounded by what seemed to be a squadron of these worshippers. The worshippers held them up long enough for Adrian and Igneel to catch up.
Igneel gave Adrian a shove to make him let go of his shirt. The shove was just in time too as a man draped in a black cloak came charging at them. Igneel slid to the side, letting the man run past him and before the man had a chance to turn around, he kicked the man in the back of the head making the man fall over unconscious.
More guards came forward and began to attack. Adrian had one hand palm up, with a closed fist over top it. "Ice Make: Cannon!" The air turned frosty and the ice crystalized to form the cannon within his hands. The ice blasted from the ice cannon, knocking and freezing everyone in its path.
Igneel wouldn't be outdone. He breathed in, filling his lungs with fire. "Fire Dragon's…" Then he released it, the burning flame expelled from his mouth, "Roar."
Max grabbed Jey's arm and hooked his other arm under her knee; he threw her into the mass of worshippers, "Water Dragon's Talon." She twisted around, lashing out leg to catch a guy in the face and send him sprawling face first into the dirt. The blast from the attack sent those around her to the ground. She twisted around in the air before landing in a crouching position.
Max didn't waste any time and stepped over top of her, he lifted his leg, letting it turn into iron and elongate before performing a roundhouse kick. He scooped Jey up and put her in an upright position before they took off again towards the camp.
…
Siren felt exhausted, the continuous use of magic was taking its toll. Layla kept trying to force her to eat and drink, but she wouldn't. She wasn't hungry and if she tried to eat it would just come back up. Siren felt horribly sick.
"Siren, you have to stop! You're too sick keep it up…" Layla had tears in her eyes. In the time that she had woken up they had kept her drugged and useless. And Siren…she had taken care of her the entire time. She felt like that had grown close in these last weeks. Almost as if she were her sister. Cacsey was kind in spite of all that had happened to her. Layla felt like they all had a bond with their troubled past.
Maybe now that she hadn't eaten in two days she could use some magic. She gripped the bars as Cacsey held onto Siren. She willed them to heat up, she pictured them on fire, the sickly sweet heat enveloping her hands. They flickered once, and then twice before bursting into flame.
"Yes!" She whispered to herself. No one was near the cage so she let the fire grow a little bit bigger and hotter. She would need to make the fire much hotter to melt the bars.
She wished, and not for the first time, that Max was here so that he could just eat the bars and they would be free to kick butt! But he wasn't there, neither was Jey and she would have to do this herself. She gritted her teeth and made the fire hotter, which caused it to grow bigger, big enough to catch Cacsey's attention.
Cacsey realized what she was doing and smiled a little. That was why she hadn't eaten anything for the past few days. She summoned a small draft to feed Layla's fire more oxygen. The drugs did affect her as much as they used to so she was able to use some of her powers.
It took a while but they both successfully got the bars to break, they left the cage, Cascey helping Siren out from the bars. Layla looked around and saw no one but the birds that liked to pick at the sacks of food. "Something is wrong…" The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.
"They've escaped!"
Layla turned around in time to see an old woman pointing at them. "Shit!"
In no time they were surrounded. Siren managed to stand on her own and the Leader appeared. He grabbed Siren by her throat, her feet clearing the ground. He squeezed tighter, causing Siren to emit strangled gasps. "You think you could save your stupid friends? Now they will die before your eyes and then I will finish the ritual." He trailed a finger down her cheek, "Soon all of our plans will come to fruition."
Siren started to mouth words, her eyes squeezed tight, tears forming in the corners.
Layla growled and threw herself at him, ready to claw his eyes out. "Let her go!"
Siren screamed and everything disappeared.
