Herobrine
Chapter 25
Final Act, Final Scene
Despite Notch telling him that the execution will begin '5 minutes by his time', it seemed like his five minutes is equal to hours. People are still moving around quickly, tirelessly, working on decorations and tables and chairs. Food were served on top of long table covered with white cloth and chairs were assembled neatly, forming rows surrounding the main stage. The stage itself had been decorated with carvings and red and gold banners, with golden ropes intertwined around, forming a beautiful theatrical stage, mounted by dark oak supports and fences.
They really are good in designing builds.
But it seemed to be such an effort if it will end up tainted with blood anyway.
Steve just sat on one of the chairs, going 'idle', as the people put it. He was thinking. Somewhat. Lost in his thoughts about the whole thing.
He doesn't remember Notch speaking to him like that. Notch was his big brother. Despite him looking odd and all stiff back then as well, Notch was someone who actually cared about him. He gave him basics of surviving, he helped him cut wood down, he helped him design his house. Notch was that kind of big brother who knows everything, and is always willing to share to him.
This Notch feels... different. Something is wrong from him, the time his gaze fell upon him on that throne.
And there are two things wrong with this Notch.
One, he doesn't seem to know that he can talk, unlike back then.
Secondly, there is something contradicting in his speech. He could not put his finger where, but something is definitely wrong, and he dislike it.
'Herobrine is going to be executed tonight. You want to come?'
'Of course it would be Notch.'
'Good. Serves him right for being a bad guy.'
Something is definitely wrong.
[Elselle30] : Yo Stephanus, are you idle?
He looked up at her, unsure what to say. He couldn't say anything with these people around, and he does not have any idea how to use the black box anyway. He shook his head and got up from the seat, walking away as if he was minding his own business.
Still, why is he staying around here? He could just go home to Joe. He promised him some meat for them to eat soon.
He was afraid of Herobrine, but why would he stay anyway?
Why?
Maybe because he wanted to see him slain finally? Seeing his tormentor killed in front of his very eyes and watch as his blood was shed on the stage? Maybe he wanted to watch the embodiment of his fears, his regrets, all to be gone and killed by his own 'big brother'?
Does he really want this? Maybe he does. It's not a wrong thing to do anyway. The monster deserved it. He deserved to die a death befitting such an infamous criminal. Everyone present in this castle agreed as well. They set a huge party just for the sake of this whole thing anyway.
But he felt... detached. He felt like he did not belong here, but he stayed anyway.
Strange.
He pulled another chair and sat on it, looking at the stage.
Maybe he should just stay behind.
It was almost sunset when Herobrine's eyes finally open once more. He couldn't really register his surroundings, but his eyes are bleary and he felt very weak. At this lowest point, moving seemed to be a hard feat as well.
He felt heavy chains around his arms, which were hung above his head. Huh. They really won't let him sleep peacefully on the floor now will they? It's not like he can run away anyway.
Maybe even after all of those humiliation, they still fear him.
How human.
He gritted his teeth and tried to push himself upward to help support his weight with his legs, hoping he felt a little comfortable that way.
He shook his head and looked once more. He was even closer to the ball, maybe closer to the stage. They would think it's an easier way to bring him there if he was closer to the open, maybe? But the chains are holding his down enough for him to go anywhere.
He felt searing pain on his nape, and the collar just made it worse. He hissed softly, closing his eyes and tries to hold the pain it caused with every move.
[Host]:...And our hero, Notch, had finally defeated the evil of Minecraft, and he will vanquish him, once and for all!
He could vaguely hear music in the distance, and read what the host said in the chatbox. Could it be... the event had started?
It's probably some minutes away from his death. And the whole community will watch.
[Host]: Please welcome the Creator and Hero of us all up here, the Ruler of Minecraft, Notch!
He heard applause, and shifted slowly, tugging on his chains. It's getting stiff in here.
Before he could knock himself out once more, the cell door flung open once more, and he could see the figure of a shadow looming over him. This is it.
[Notch]: Thank you, thank you!
[Notch]: I really appreciate all of you putting aside some time for this glorious event that we started.
Steven uneasily sat on a chair, along with other guests, looking at Notch with wary gaze.
[Notch]: I thank all the developers to make this event you asked for come true. With this, we will conclude the legend of Herobrine, and there won't be any more Herobrines to be removed from the server after this!
Another roar of applause, and Steve clapped along... but slowly. Uneasily.
[Notch]: Thank you, thank you. Now, this stage was build by yours truly, the amazing builders in here, present with us, to commemorate this eventful evening.
[Notch]: And on this stage, I shall present to you the fallen king himself, Herobrine, as we dine and be merry!
Steve nodded slowly, but his eyes were filled with worry and anxiety. Is this... how barbaric Notch truly is? The worst is that he get the crowd to cheer over murder, over the slaying of another person. Despite him knowing that Herobrine is the evil here, and Herobrine should get what he had deserved after so long, it's still wrong, very wrong.
And he will slay him in front of these many people...? As they eat...?
What kind of place is this..?
It looked like heaven for a split second...
But maybe this place is hell.
When he was snapped out of his thoughts, the dinner has commenced. Food were distributed, and they all ate, and the chatbox burst with laughter and merriness and congratulating each other and praising Notch. There was a steak placed in front of him, but he didn't really care. His eyes were on the stage, waiting...
And his fears were confirmed.
Two guards appeared, walking from behind the stage. they approached Notch, who was talking to a waiter, and looked at him, as if telling him something. Notch gave them a nod, and they left to the back of the server, as Notch got up and raised his goblet of gold.
[Notch]: Ladies and Gentlemen, if I may have your attention for a second?
The chatbox went quiet, and all eyes were on him.
Steve gulped.
[Notch]: I present to you our 'honorary' guest, the fallen King of Nether, the defeated Lord of Evil, Herobrine!
And with a thud, there he was.
Steve almost choked at the sight. The very person he feared, the very person that broke him, is now more broken than he was. His clothes were ragged and tattered; what was left of it was strands and pieces clung to his now thin frame, coated in black patches which he could assume to be dried blood. His trousers were almost destroyed as well, leaving just bits enough to cover his waist. His hair was a mess, and he could see half of his face was covered with patches of dried blood. One of his arms even bend at an unnatural angle, and he didn't move, nor made any move to try and stand.
If only he didn't remember he was dining with so many people, he would get up and rush away from such horrid scene.
And yet everyone clapped and the chatbox was bursting with cheers and insults thrown to the display of the event. Fireplaces roar, and the toast was made between each people in each tables, and the commotion was almost ecstatic.
Steve couldn't take his eyes away.
How could they not see?
How could they at least not cringe at the sight?
How?
How?
[Notch]: He used to oppress us! Oppress our people! oppress people weaker than he was!
[Notch]: And now he was weaker than all of us! He can't do anything!
Notch yanked on the chains around his neck and pulled him close, earning a loud yelp from the beaten man as he was forcefully dragged through the floor and up to his feet. Notch grabbed his shoulders and turned him around.
[Notch]: We have marked him as an outcast. You can always see it on his nape!
Apparently everyone just agreed and laughed and cheered, but Steve could see it from where he sat. On the back of the neck, despite some hair being on the way, there it is. A red mark. A very red, bleeding mark, with burnt edges.
A mark of an iron brand, in the shape of a crossed out square.
[Notch]: This is the humiliation he deserved.
And by now, Steve had disagreed. Against every single one of them in the event.
No. He did not deserve this.
He knew it.
Herobrine lost consciousness for several minutes after Notch dropped him to the ground. He awoke with himself chained to a pole, in front of dining players. It was such a sight. People were dancing merrily, some focused on eating, and the people who turned their backs at him are, obviously, youtubers who are recording the whole event and commentating on their microphones beyond the game.
Seems like they were lucky they couldn't see past the rendering, but if they could, he was sure they would gag at his sight.
Well, it's not his fault he was this broken.
It was silent, just a soft tune of someone playing music blocks in the distance. He decided to just close his eyes and give up. The tune lulled him to sleep, and it felt... good.
He wondered if this is a way to die. He wondered if this is it, and this is how it should have ended, this twisted tragedy. He didn't think of himself as the dramatic, misjudged protagonist. He was always the bad guy, and he took the role despite knowing what will come to him. He acted the way he was not supposed to. He became a figure he wasn't supposed to be.
And he said before, this would be his final act. Better put up the best he could do.
Before he could succumb to sleep, the music stopped abruptly.
And something interesting seemed to happen.
[DonnatheHerobrineLover]: Leave him alone, you stupid jerks!
[Heratheprincess3024]: Yeah, leave our king alone!
He cracked his eyes open to see several... colorful... skinned players seemingly wracking havoc in the dinner. Well, not exactly. More like causing a huge ruckus. The guards were moving to their way, seemingly eager to roleplay out the police part, and Notch rose from his seat to address the problem. Some are trying to talk this out with other guests. Other shows their anger by smashing tables and fling food everywhere.
He sighed softly. What can they exactly do? They were just ten years olds who were too clingy on legends that definitely came to life from fanfictions and other fanmade related things. The worst they can do is just delaying his death a minute or two, and that's all there is. All they can be is just protesting and being distractions.
Perhaps... being distractions is all they need to do.
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: Steven?
His eye snapped open, and he quickly went face to face with one of those colorful skinned girls with pink hair and blue eyes, the typical mainstream skin. Did she just addressed him... by his real name?
Then... could it be..?
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: There is no time. Mojang is in peril thanks to what this hacker has done.
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: We've been busy keeping the media down to stop other people or the news trying to get a see on this.
His mouth opened, but nothing came out.
He shook his head, his expression unreadable.
[Herobrine - ClarityGirlxoxo]: ...Notch...?
The girl looked at the commotion, and back to him.
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: I know. This is a very unlikely name and skin, but it's a great undercover.
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: I'll explain everything once we're done here, but you need to help me with something.
The skin has two bottles of splash potions in her hands. There was an enchanted diamond sword in its hilt around her waist.
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: I need you to cause as much chaos as much as you can handle.
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: Can you do that for me?
Herobrine blinked.
He... gets to choose...?
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: Hurry, before they look at us!
To live.. or to die?
He swallowed.
[Notch]: Hey, what do you think you're doing?!
[ClarityGirlxoxo - Herobrine]: Steven!
A nod is all the real Notch needed.
There was a splash, and chains breaking away.
And the fallen Hero stood up once more, an enchanted diamond sword in hand.
Challenging for the crown once more.
