AN: Well, here it is. The Big Finale! I hope you like it. About halfway through the story I decided who needed to win and how. When I started I had something like this in mind, but I wasn't sure if I could write it well enough for it to work. Please let me know what you think. Good or bad. I feel like I did a bad job at getting what happens in my head onto paper, and I hope it isn't too confusing. If so let me know and I'll rewrite, trying to make things more clear. Sorry for the long author's note.
The Feast
Zila Monument POV
Topanga stands right below me and doesn't even know it. She has a weapon, all I have is a rock and a pointy stick I found on my way here. They looked like they could do some damage if needed.
The hovercraft slowly leaves. Topanga doesn't move and I'm forced to act quickly.
"Hey." I say, she jumps and look up into the tree, her machete points up at me. "I'm not going to hurt you." I say.
"How long have you been up there?"
"Climbed up just a few seconds before you showed up." I say quickly. I glance over at the field and see Lex sprinting across it. Along with Stiles and Billi. Not good! "Look. I'm only here to help Lex get the medication. So please let me go help him!" I plead.
"You're letting him win?" She asks me, obviously confused.
"Yeah. I am. So let me down." I say frantically.
"I'll help you!" She says quickly.
"What?" She's lying to me.
"Yeah. I'll help." She steps out of the way and gives me a clear path to climb down. I don't even hesitate. By now Lex could already be caught in a fight.
Billi Link POV
I don't hesitate when the hovercraft leaves. I need that medication, and the only way to get it is to fight my way to it.
Stiles is only a few feet ahead of me. I only stop running long enough to throw my spear at him. I aim for the center of his back, so if the spear goes a little high or a little low it'll still hit him. The spear leaves my hand and I watch it soar through the air.
Stiles is good, if it wasn't so important that I hit him I'd congratulate him on his dodge of my spear. He happens to glance behind him just moments before the spear reaches him. He instantly drops to the ground, landing lightly on his right shoulder and doing a simple yet useful combat roll with his momentum. The spear flies right over him. It sticks in the ground far away.
Both of us continue to run forward, out of nowhere a knife spins by me. I freeze in my tracks and realize the one handed kid, Lex, must have thrown the knife. He's running to my left, and from what I can tell he'll reach the bridge about the same time as Stiles. Stupid kid.
Stiles Spiller POV
Billi isn't that great, she didn't even try to throw another spear at me.
I'm only two feet away from the bridge when a knife sticks into the ground by my feet. My first thought is Topanga, but I realize the one handed kid is standing only feet away, another small knife in his hand. I grin at him, he's an awful aim. He wants to fight me? He doesn't stand a chance. I spin my sword around and point it at him. Fear floods his eyes, but he doesn't back down.
He'll be dead in seconds.
I lung at him, finally I'll get to prove myself, maybe I'll get to kill the remainder of the tributes myself. One tribute single handily killing four high scoring tributes. I'll be a Victor to remember.
I'm almost to him, he holds his knife out clumsily.
Pain shoots up my left side. I gasp for a breath and drop my sword. Idiot! I wasn't paying attention to Billi. A spear sticks in my left side right below my ribs. I can't help it, no matter how hard I try I can't keep myself on my feet. I sink to the ground. My vision blurs as pain shoots through my whole body.
Topanga Lynn POV
Zila runs to get the medication and I make my way to the bridge. Across the river I see Billi throw an spear as hard and fast as she can toward Stiles.
I can't stop myself from grinning as the spear impels itself into Stiles side. Billi did it! I glance behind me to see Zila grabbing the medication. She wants to give it to Lex, I want to give it to Billi. I look over at the little boy. He doesn't stand a chance against Billi.
I rush over the bridge. The boy doesn't move. He obviously doesn't want to get a fight with me and Billi both. I jog over to the boy. I put my hands in the air as truce.
I glance down at Stiles. Even through the pain he glares at me.
"Looks like The Princess, a one handed kid, and a fourteen year old girl are better than you." I say to him. Then I turn to the boy. "Do you have any siblings?" I ask him. He just stares at me, he's eyes wide.
I ask him again. "Do you have any siblings?"
"A little brother." He says. Billi joins us, her eyes wild.
"Don't hurt the kid." I tell her. She starts to say something but I stop her. "I have a little sister. She's three, so she won't remember watching any of this. How old is your brother?"
"Twelve." He says, his voice wavering slighlty. That's not the answer I wanted to hear. A cannon fires, Stiles cannon. Blood rushes in my ears and I look around at the scene surrounding me. Zila digs around in the pile of goodies the Careers keep stashed for themselves. Is she looking for a weapon? Probably, these is suppose to be the big finale after all.
"Topanga. What are you doing!? Let's get the medication!" Billi says frantically.
"I'm not going to drink it." I say. "He is."
"What?" Both Billi and Lex ask at the same time.
"I can't win this. Billi I already explained it to you."
"But, what about him!" She says. Lex looks so scared right now, why shouldn't he?
"Billi. I- I think maybe he should-" But I have to stop talking, because I want to tell Billi to watch out, I want to tell her the little girl is right behind her, but for the first time my words fail me.
Zila Monument POV
I hold four of the poisoned darts I found in my hand. I take a few deep breaths before I run over to the help Lex.
Even now, even in the open, the tributes don't notice me. I hold one of the darts up, and Topanga only notices me right before I drive the knife into the back of Billi's neck.
I hold back my own screams as Billi frantically spins around to face me. She lets out an irritated yell and claws at the dark in her neck.
"I'm sorry!" I say. I can't find the right words. She's the third person I've killed. It should be easier this time, but it's not. She lunges at me and I close my eyes and get ready for the impact of her body.
I'm pushed to the ground, landing hard on my elbows. My right arm goes numb, and instantly I know it's broken.
"NO!" Someone screams. But I don't open my eyes. Something strikes my cheek. The weight on my body relaxes and for a second I can move my left arm. A couple darts lay just beside my hand where I dropped them. I open my eyes, the scene above me is not what I expected.
Topanga pulls at Billi, who is getting weaker by the minute. They fight with each other, clawing at each other's arms and pushing each other away.
I can feel my right arm again as pain is slowly taking over and the numbness goes away. Topanga manages to pull Billi off of me, and I can sit up. The two girls wrestle on the ground. Lex is by my side in minutes.
"I dropped the medication." I say to him. He frantically looks around on the ground for it.
"Billi!" Topanga yells. Billi stopped fighting back and lays on the ground, motionless. The poison must be doing what it's supposed to do. Seconds later a cannon fires.
"Give me one of the darts!" Topanga says instantly, standing up and towering over me, her hand outstretched. I can tell she's fighting back tears. I don't move, so she angrily reaches down and pulls a dart out of my hand.
Lex Grovenstin POV
She's going to kill us. What else am I suppose to think. Zila just killed her partner. I can't help that I cower away just a little bit when Topanga grabs the darts from Zila. I expect to feel the pain of one of the darts at any second, but instead Topanga reaches her hand out and offers to help Zila stand.
"Zila." I can't help it, everything tells me it's a trap. But Zila decides to take the offer, and Topanga pulls her to her feet. I stand too.
"Seems like getting the medication was pointless." Topanga basically laughs. "I'm letting Lex win."
Wait, what? She's letting me win? How? Why?
"Lex." Zila says, turning toward me. "When you get back to the Capitol, get your hand fixed, you deserve it."
"No, wait!" I say, but it's too late. The two girls seem to have a silent agreement, and together they stick the darts in their necks, just above the collar bone.
"No! Zila." My mind races. They just killed themselves for me. They just let me win. "Zila." I say, tears rushing down my face. She drops the dart on the ground beside her and pulls me in for a hug.
"You have a family." She says in my ear.
"But you-" I chock on my words. She's letting me win. She pulls away from me. I can't help but turn toward Topanga. Who is now sitting cross legged on the ground.
"The Capitol couldn't handle me." She says simply. But I can see a smirk on her face.
Topanga Lynn POV
He deserves to win. He has a brother. Yes, I have a sister, but she's little. She won't remember me doing this. Lex Grovenstin's brother is twelve. He's watching this very minute. I can't kill him knowing his family is watching.
I'm sure right now the Capitol is either sitting silently watching two little kids cry while I just lay back on the ground and stare at the sky, welcoming death. Or they are ready to riot. Part of me hopes they are rioting. I'm the "sexy, give 'em hell, clueless, princess" how many people bet money on me? Hopefully lots.
"Bet you wish you voted for someone else." It's all I can say before the world spins around me.
Zila Monument POV
It's not as painful as I thought, it's just like getting really sleepy. Lex sits beside me while I wait. For a few seconds I panic, what is death like? What's going to happen to me? But Lex needs to win this, I've done too much bad to make it out alive. I took three lives not counting my own.
"Lex." I say, my words slurring as I have trouble moving my tongue. I want to tell him he's a good guy, and not to feel like me dying is his fault, but the words won't come. Slowly Lex fades from my vision.
