Chapter 26
"Natsumi-chan!" Tobi sang the girl's name as they sat around a table, after the blind woman had gave them permission to enter her home. The masked man was moving his head side to side, as if he was dancing to a tune in his mind. "Are those your parents?" the man pointed to a portrait of a married couple. They looked young in the picture; Natsumi had her looks from her mother, while her father seemed ugly to Tobi's taste, short and fat. The kids were at the other side of circular table, well as far away as they could from their sensei. They stared at the masked man, with disturbed expressions.
"I…don't know," Natsumi honestly answered. She didn't even know what picture the man had pointed to, and even if she did, she wouldn't be able to picture it in her head. She made her way to the seat that was next to Tobi. From the noises she could make out, she knew the rest of the chairs were occupied.
"Why are you blind?" Tobi asked as if he was a curious child; he stared at her, while he placed his hands under his chin. Natsumi was silent,
"Sensei!" Mizuki said annoyed. His question was very…insensitive.
"Yes, Mizuki-chan?" Tobi turned to the girl amused.
"You don't ask those kind of questions," the girl lectured her sensei, arms crossed.
"But, I want to know so badly!" Tobi let out a whine, shifted his chair to face the girl. He placed his hands together and shook it. "Tell me please?"
"Well…" Natsumi was going to keep her calm persona in check. She had learned the man who had a childish voice was indeed the Sensei and Jounin of the squad. Well she wasn't certain if these people were lying to her. The thought of them lying actually kind of scared her. They could be easily be evil ninja in disguised, planning to kidnap her. She began to chide herself for letting them step into the house. She couldn't really ask for identification from the 'ninja'. It was a waste of time to request for proof from them because she couldn't see. "I lost my sight when I was five," Natsumi revealed without emotion. "We aren't sure why, but since I was born, my vision died off as the days went by," she guessed Tobi would want to know the reasons of her eyesight gone, so she answered before he could ask.
"That's…sad…" Miso said quietly. He couldn't imagine going blind. The thought scared the boy.
"Don't worry, Natsumi-Chan!" Tobi slammed his hand down on the table playfully. "You can hold on to Miso-Chan while we escort you to the other town," Tobi beamed. "Miso-Chan has such great eyes, he can see from many meters away!"
Chan rolled his eyes; their sensei really couldn't shut up. It was obvious that Natsumi would feel lower than them from each comment Tobi was making.
"That means, he has the Byakugan?" Natsumi asked surprised, without envy in her tone.
"You know of the Byakugan?" Miso didn't think she would. Mizuki hit the boy by the back of his head.
"Everyone does, she isn't ignorant." Chan grumbled.
"Do you live alone?" Miso asked their customer.
"At the moment, yes."
"Where are your parents?"
"They moved away few days ago…" Natsumi sighed. "They moved to the village of seed, believing they would live better lives up there."
"Why aren't you with them?" Mizuki was confused, as the paper said the village they had to take her was the village of the trees.
"They…" Natsumi trailed down quietly, her eyes lost some of the only light it managed to have as she didn't want to answer.
"Well, let's get your things together and go!" Tobi jumped from his seat. The house was small, only a dim light helped to clear things up what was inside. There were only few things around, as it seemed Natsumi's parents left with taking most of the things the house used to have. The table was one of the only furniture left behind, few pictures hanged around the walls. Tobi wondered how this blind woman lived in such conditions.
"I…don't even know if I can trust you guys…" Natsumi managed out to say with courage. The worst thing that could happen would be the ninja getting enraged of her suspicion of them and killing her at the spot…Well that was actually really bad…
"Silly girl, if that was true, then I would have taken your life already," Tobi giggled, and even if Natsumi judged the man to be immature by the way he sounded like, she couldn't help but feel herself sweat from fear.
"You can sleep in my parent's room," Natsumi told Mizuki with a smile. She didn't want the girl sharing the same room as the boys.
"Sure," Mizuki went to the room, it was empty but at least she can use her sleeping bag there.
The other boys got themselves comfortable inside of their sleeping bags inside the living room. Tobi was outside, on top of the roof calmly, arms behind his head as he shut his eyes. Natsumi made her way as best as she could through the house, she didn't feel Tobi's presence at all. She heard Chan and Miso chatting with one another about random things. Did he leave? It was actually scary to have no clue where the childish man was. She couldn't trust him for some reason. She felt something was very off, as if he was faking who he seemed to be. She went to her room, listened very carefully, making sure that lunatic wasn't in her room. Once there was no breathing heard, which she could actually pick up with her ears, she relaxed, and shut her door with a lock. Well she wasn't so relaxed yet, because he could easily barge in and do horrible things to her.
"Sensei is really weird…" Miso whispered once the woman was in her room. Chan had his eyes closed, but still wasn't asleep.
"Of course he is…"
"I don't get why he changes into a kid randomly," Miso didn't want to question his sensei, but it couldn't be helped. Who wouldn't want to know why a serious man would suddenly act like a child?
"I thought at first he was just kidding…" Chan said calmly. "But then I thought about it and realized if he was just fooling around well there must be wrong with him…" he glanced at Miso who was laying few feet away from him. "Like you said, he's serious, and acting like this goofy character is unnatural even if it was a prank…"
Miso tried to think about it, but it ended up being a pain. "I guess he has…a split personality."
"I hope not," Chan groaned. The thought of it was just creepy, and it wouldn't really be true… Their teacher acted like his serious attitude for a whole month without switching into the other persona. Gees, their sensei was just full of secrets. Sometimes the boy thought it was better to just accept the way the man was, even though it just did not make sense.
"Why am I stuck doing the labor?" Chan grumbled as he was pulling a cart full of Natsumi's belongings. The things consisted of clothes, food, and other random stuff. Natsumi was holding Miso's shoulder, leading her to the right direction. Mizuki was next to Tobi at the front of the group.
"Let's rest up," Chan called. They had been walking since early morning and the sun was beginning to set away.
"Sensei!" Miso yelled with a frown. "You said starting today; you will pick one of us randomly to train!"
Tobi stopped along the path and turned to the boy with a tilted head.
"I did?" Tobi asked with his childish voice.
"Oh yes you did," Mizuki wasn't going to let the man go back on his word. Chan hoped he wasn't picked. He just wanted to rest for now. After pulling the huge cart all by himself, he just couldn't go on. He let go of the handles and fell on his bottom, with a sigh. He really wished they got horses.
"I pick…" Tobi brought his finger up, pointing at Mizuki but then to Miso. Miso grinned, ready to burst up with cheers, but Tobi moved to Chan. The boy frowned, and rolled his eyes when Tobi kept switching between the three. "Too much pressure!" Tobi wailed, grabbing his head as if he was in pain. Mizuki was glaring at her sensei, as if threatening him to get picked first. She went over to Tobi.
"I'm first," she said simply, choosing for her sensei.
"Hmm….sure!" Tobi cheered. Miso was about to argue, but Tobi brought his hand up as if to stop him.
"Remember Miso-Chan~" Tobi said with a random tune. "I said the other two who won't be training along with me will be training together so… Like you have a very bad physic, Chan is in charge to give you a work out."
Miso's eyes widened and turned to Chan who smirked with pleasure. The boy got up; ignoring the fact he was tired. Putting Miso in pain was always fun.
Natsumi was lost; she didn't even know what was going to happen to her. "Hum…so we going to stop?" she asked as she guessed they weren't going to travel at the moment.
"Sensei is going to train me," Mizuki couldn't help but get a little excited. Finally, one to one training with her sense, she always wondered what great things he will show her, well just for her.
"You can sit on a rock if you want," Tobi signaled to Natsumi to sit on this rock near her. Mizuki frowned, Natsumi was just so confused.
"So…How long is this escort going to take?" Natsumi asked.
"Hurry Mizuki!" Tobi yelled with fear. "She's on to us!" Tobi ran to a random direction and Mizuki blinked. "Run!" Tobi's voice could be heard from afar, the man was fast. Mizuki obeyed, going after her sensei.
Natsumi just stood there, unable to comprehend what was going on.
"Let's start Miso, with some stretches," Chan chuckled, already knowing what exercises to place the blonde kid to execute. Miso sighed, stretching his arms back just like Chan was doing. Natsumi slowly made her way to her left, hands in front to touch a tree. She listened to the wind, to the leaves that rattled like a tune. She took a sit on the ground, listening to the boys as that was all she could do. She closed her eyes, hoping they got to her destination on time.
"We going to start with some pushups," Chan said as he spread his legs apart, leaning down to touch his toes. "Maybe like four hundred."
"Four hundred!?" Miso gasped in shock, already getting tired from the thought.
Mizuki threw a kick towards Tobi's head, but the man avoided it easily by stepping aside. The girl glared at him, quickly throwing punches at him. Tobi dodged them all with ease.
"Your movements are too slow," Tobi's dark voice lectured his student.
"You just too fast," Mizuki said annoyed. She gasped when Tobi threw his own punch at her, but stopped about a half of inch from her face. He eyed her; he was in a front stance. The girl slowly took a couple of steps back; she placed a hand on her chest, trying to calm her beating heart.
"Don't be afraid," Tobi frowned behind his mask.
"I'm not…" the girl grumbled.
"Yes you are," Tobi stood straight. "You freeze when someone is going to hurt you."
"Well…I can't help it," Mizuki looked away; she really had lost her touch in fighting… She wasn't so hesitant if someone was going to hit her. So many times her father sparred with her and it always seemed fine.
"You still afraid because of what happened."
Mizuki looked at him confused. The masked man sighed; he placed his arms crossed on his chest.
"Have you talked about that incident with anyone?" Tobi asked, he did hope the girl talked about it with her mother. Mizuki finally got what he was talking about… In their first days out of Konoha, when that rogue ninja kissed her…and almost... She clenched her teeth, hands turned into fists from the memories. She could still feel that dirty man's hands all over her. "You didn't…huh?"
Mizuki glared at him. "So?"
"Well that is the problem," Tobi wasn't going to let her hold anger in her heart, but then again it did help with the Uchiha blood to boil up with great power. "You have to talk about your issues with others, so you can move on. If you don't then…It will eat you up in the end." Tobi remembered how he finally told Naruto about his past, about all the things that made him be who he was. It did help, well somewhat. Talking to one person wasn't enough…But he didn't want these kids to know or anyone else for now.
Mizuki ignored him and ran to him, throwing kicks and punches. Tobi narrowed his eyes at her and stepped aside to each attack.
"Who cares," Mizuki said coldly. "Nothing bad happened anyways," she lied; she just didn't want to talk about her feelings.
"So that scream for me was for nothing?" Tobi brought the memory back when she had yelled for him, with desperation. Mizuki stopped, staring at him with wide eyes. She didn't remember he had screamed for him.
"Mizuki…" Tobi calmed his dark tone a bit. "Whoever holds emotions is not weak. We are all human, and ignoring them will in the future come back and block up at your face. It is better to express them now before it gets worse later."
Mizuki let out a small smile, before looking up at her sensei. "Sensei…I'm not a weak little girl," She said. "Yes, what happened to me was bad, but it won't put me down forever. Many others had suffered worse fates than I did and kept on going with their lives. I won't let it beat me up."
"You not getting it," Tobi really thought she was arrogant.
"Sensei," Mizuki frowned at the man before she continued. "You suffered a worse fate than I did and you are stronger, I won't lose to you."
Tobi was silent, he stared at her. How did she know of his situation? Did she know? Or did she guess?
"I'm not going to let a stupid man that kissed me take my spirit down," her eyes activated into the sharingan, with three tomeo. "And I'm going to prove to you I am a great ninja and to your friend Adaram I am worthy of being called an Uchiha," she lunged at him, concentrating chakra to her fists and punched at him. Tobi was a bit out of it, and barely dodged it. He felt his heart skip for a moment when he felt the force of the punch pass his head. Mizuki's eyes glared at him, with determination.
"Any man that looks down on me will be losing a limb," the girl said coldly. She hated Hideko more for beating that rogue ninja. Well of course she was a bit thankful for the girl saving her life, but Mizuki really wanted to get vengeance.
"Well, you won't beat any great ninja with that speed," Tobi reminded her. "If you can land one blow at me, than you can have all the confidence you wish to have."
A challenged it seemed her sensei was putting up for her. The girl knew it would be hard to physically hurt him. The man was very fast and had the ability to become like a ghost form. Even with the odds against her, she couldn't help but smirk, having the feeling that she will one day for sure beat him.
once again, im sorry for a crappy chapter :(. I promise next time it will be longer and better. Also i'm thinking to go back and edit one of the chaps. I'm thinking that Mizuki shouldn't have a love interest yet o.o. I want her an independent girl, strong but yes hiruzen will have a crush on her but she doesn't really give it back yet o.o.
Also one of my fans here pmed me this link that revealed who is tobi o.o. I won't spoiled it for any of you guys, I will keep my mouth shut of the identity but it did give me thoughts about my own story. I'm debating if to implement his real identity here...it's going to be hard and will cause alot of plot holes if i do... I was debating if to start all over again or, just go with my own idea that i had for tobi. It is a bit hard to go with my own idea because now i know who tobi really is. Well I'm thinking i may put it up still but, i will just have it that naruto will be the only one to really know and the ending of the real story and my story will be different o.o.
I will ask everyone that will review this chapter not to bring up who Tobi is. I don't want other viewers to get the spoiler. But i will say It's going to be really awesome when it comes out in the manga :3.
so what do you guys think of this chap? also what do you guys think of my plan for who tobi is? should i just keep going as to who i thoguht he was before ? or should i go along with Kishi's idea of tobi o.o. I will put up a poll about this next time i update. This arc won't really need it. I think this arc won't be so long like the others. I want to start to the chunnin exams :o.
sorry again for a crappy chapter :/
