Chapter 26
Natalie POV
There's someone following me, I can feel it. Who would come down here, who would want to walk down the edges of the chasm? I turn around out of curiosity, which always got me in trouble in Abnegation, he has dark skin and looks a little older than Tris.
"It's you, Natalie. The one who saved me from Jeanine." The man quietly says. I immediately know who it is: Amar.
"Amar? What are you doing here, you're supposed to be outside the fence?"
"I was sent to do something, then got caught."
"May I ask, by who?"
"Four and Tris. The Tris girl ran away after we tried explaining, she can barely look me in the eyes anymore, after we told her the complete truth."
"That's because she already knew it."
"How? Nobody in the city knew the truth except those who were sent out there and never came back and you."
"Because Tris is my daughter. After she ran away I ran after her and told her. I couldn't keep my secret from her any longer it tearing me apart. I needed to be closer to her because our family is broken right now."
"I'm sorry. I only came down here to thank you for saving my life."
"It was my pleasure." Just like that he's gone.
I walk all the way down to the bottom of the chasm, to find my special rock. Ever since I lost Andrew, I've been lost. I thought he loved me, maybe he only love me for Beatrice and Caleb. Did he even love them? It seemed like that. Why Jeanine? At the dinner table, the night before our children chose differently, he showed much hatred for Erudite. Then at the Choosing Ceremony, when we ran into Jeanine, his eye showed hatred or was it longing for her? I don't want to think that it was longing for her, I want to believe it was hatred, but it must have been longing. When Caleb chose Erudite, he wasn't completely devastated, was because he thought that now he'll be able to see Jea-no her. Or was it because he thought Beatrice might stay? I knew all along that she would transfer. She didn't fit in, she knew it and I knew it.
I'm brought out of my thoughts when I hear foot steps behind me.
"Mom?" It's just Be- no Tris.
"What are doing down here?"
"I came to think."
"About what, might I ask?"
"Everything." She sounds exhausted.
"Okay, well what's really bothering you?"
"I don't know. Tobias, dad, outside the fence and some people that my friends thought were dead actually aren't dead."
"Okay let's talk about those people? Are their names Amar and George?"
"So you do know them. I wasn't sure if you knew them. Tori, George's sister, I was talking to her about it and I told her about you. You can trust her, I tell her everything, and she's like a second mom to me."
"I understand. Tris, you don't have to worry about the outside. They won't harm us. The only person who might harm us, is a guy who liked me when I moved inside, but I hope he's gotten over me."
"Okay so let's talk about Tobias. What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong with us, Amar was Tobias' initiation instructor. When he died, then came back, Tobias is trying to decide who he can trust, because this has happened to him two times."
"Tobias knows he can trust you." I reassure her, I don't know how to because I wasn't in love at her age, now that I think about it.
"I know that." Trust, it take forever to build up, but it's broken in an instant, like glass. I trusted Andrew with my life but everything was broken the day our children transferred.
"Tris, honey. You can trust Tobias, I can tell he's way too afraid to lose you not to trust you. He will always be there for you, even when you don't want him there. You will never lose him." I tell her.
"Tris listen to your mom, she's right." Someone says behinds us. I turn to see who it is: Hana. She continues, "Four is way too afraid to lose you, to do anything. The night after the boy got stabbed in the night, Four was terrified for your sake. He didn't want you in the dorms. Then when Uriah took you to the Hancock building that morning, he wanted to go but because of his fear he didn't. Trust me, Tris, Four will doing anything, I mean anything for you. You have no idea how many times during your initiation he came over to ask me for advice." She finishes. Beatrice's eyes light up after Hana told her about Tobias.
"Sounds like someone I once knew also." I tell her. She makes a small smile on her face.
"Tomorrow is 17 years since he was taken." She points out.
"Who?" Tris questions.
"My brother, Hana's husband."
"You had a brother?"
"He was in the family that 'adopted' me when I came to Dauntless, the first time."
"What happened to him?" I know she doesn't mean to ask all these questions, but they are making things resurface. I think they might be reopening a wound for Hana.
"He was taken by Erudite one night. They experimented on him." I try not to go into too much detail, I know it's hard for Hana.
"You know, they never told us he was dead. He could still be alive." Hana says.
"I know, but their Erudite, they probably experimented on him until he died." She nod, I know this topic is hard for her.
"Anyways, I come down here to find you." She says pointing to me.
"I better go, Tobias is probably looking for me." Tris says as she's getting up off the rock.
"Bye sweetheart." I go over and hug her. After she left Hana asks me, "Do you think she made the connection?"
"She'll figure it out, once she lets that whole conversation set in."
"She's like him, you know. She's always curious, yet not like the Erudite. Her bravery comes from her selflessness, just like him. Sometimes it hard looking at her, because I see him in her. Maybe that's why when I first met her I felt like I had a connection to her. I wish I could find another guy like him, maybe I wouldn't be so when I think about him."
"Hana," I say softly, "I think that Blaze would have wanted you to move on, but never to forget who he is."
"I don' think I could ever forget Blaze. I guess our fire wasn't supposed to last, it was so bright, our fire was just beginning, why did it have to be extinguished? I don't understand."
"I don't know why bad thing happen to us, I want to believe it happened for a reason, but I still don't know what the reason was."
"Why does Erudite have to ruin everything? They ruin my love life and yours." I wince, I'm still not used to not being married anymore.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to bring it up." She apologizes.
"It's fine. I think I need to talk about it, I've been keeping it to myself. I can't even talk to my own daughter about. Hana, what's wrong with me? I can't even talk to my own daughter about her father's crime, about his betrayal."
"It's okay. When Blaze was taken from me, I locked myself in the bedroom and would cry myself to sleep. I did this for a few day until my friend broke into my house and slapped me in the face and told me to get of my lazy butt and go be Dauntless. That night, we got someone to watch our kids and we went out. We didn't go to any bars, but when we went out I forgot everything that happened and I had fun. So Natalie, that's what we shall do. We are going to go out to night and we are going to forget everything. Hey, you never know we might meet someone special." She says the last part with a wink.
AN: Yay! I finally updated! And it's a semi-long chapter. So next chapter will be about their night out, my question for you is should I do it in Natalie's POV or Hana's POV? Review what you think. Also I need names for guys that they might meet!
