A/N: I just want to give a shout out to Tangled4ever for giving me an idea for this chapter. Thanks for giving me that suggestion because I've been suffering from writer's block.

***PLEASE READ MY AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE END OF THE IS CHAPTER!***

After a few weeks of grieving for their son and his funeral, Trader Johann arrived to their island again. Many of the people cheered seeing the recognizable ship sailing to the dock. Everyone ran to the ships while Stoick walked to it. Johann saw the people waiting to get on and he put down the ramp to let them on.

"Ah, Berk! My favorite island that I travel to!" Johann greeted the Berkians he saw running to the ship. Stoick followed behind and walked around the ship. While he looked, he felt a hand on his back and he found The Trader behind him.

"I just heard what happened, I'm so sorry." Stoick looked down and cleared his throat.

"Thank you, Johann, but it's going to be awhile before I feel like I'm back to normal."

"I understand, but at least let me give you something. That Gardner gave me more flower seeds; if you want them I'll let you have them."

"Thank you, Valka did like those yellow roses you gave me. I think it might lift up her spirits to have more."

Johann walked away from The Chief and went to a barrel. Just like the last time, the seeds were in a bag.

"This Gardner has a thing for roses. She gave me red ones this time," Johann exclaimed. He put the bag in Stoick's hand and continued his tale. "She lives on an island not far from here. That's how I found out about the news. After I was told what happened, I had to stop by again."

"What island is this?"

"Madden," Johann answered him.

"Ah, I had an annual treaty signing with them just last week. It's no wonder you found out."

"Yeah well, I do have other stops that are waiting for me. Send Valka my condolences."

"Will do, Johann." Stoick said and left the ship to go to the woods to plant the red roses by the yellow ones.

Valka was sitting at the dining table with her mother. Mrs. Jorgenson was worried for her daughter, sure she needed to grieve, but she hadn't left the house ever since she lost the child. Mrs. Jorgenson knew people grieved in different ways, but not leaving the house couldn't be healthy. She tried many times to get her to come over, but she always said that she couldn't look at her father yet. Mrs. Jorgenson just nodded and let her daughter talk.

Today, Mrs. Jorgenson decided to try to get her daughter to get out of the house. Valka finally got up from bed and got dressed and fixed her hair for the first time since the funeral. Mrs. Jorgenson put her cup by her lips before she spoke.

"So, I heard Moni got some new spices from Johann today. I thought we could go buy some."

Valka shrugged and said "I don't know. Maybe you can just give some to me and I'll pay you back."

"Oh Valka, please just come with me."

"If I do, will you stop nagging me to go outside?" Mrs. Jorgenson gave her a nod. Valka sighed and slid her cup away from herself. "Fine mom, I'll go buy some spices with you, but I'm coming back here when we are done."

Mrs. Jorgenson got up and smiled. "Great," she said before she walked to the door and waited for her daughter to follow. Valka pulled her boots on and they walked out of the house to Moni's shop. While they were walking, Valka kept feeling eyes on her with every step she took. She tried to ignore the people around her, but it was hard when people would whisper every time she walked by. When she and her mother were in front of Moni's spice cart, Valka kept listening to the people around her.

She kept hearing things like "that poor girl", "at least she's out of the house". There was also "who knows if she'll be able to have kids", "it will be years before they try to have kids again", and "she can't even carry children right". Valka cringed hearing the gossip once again. Didn't these people have better things to talk about? Why did these people think they knew what was going on in her life? Why couldn't they just shut up and leave her alone?

Valka's thoughts were interrupted when she felt her mother's hand on her shoulder. Mrs. Jorgenson handed Valka a bag of spice and they walked back to The Haddock Household. Valka put her bag of spice up and stomped around the room thinking about what the people said.

"I can't believe them! What makes them think they know my life!?" Valka shouted at her mother. Mrs. Jorgenson walked up to her daughter and placed hands on her shoulder.

"Valka, calm down, and tell me what you are talking about."

"Didn't you hear what those people were saying?"

"I'm sorry dear, but I didn't. Who said what?"

"I don't know I just heard people talking. I didn't pay attention to who said what; I just heard a lot around me."

"Okay, now how about you tell me what you heard." Mrs. Jorgenson suggested. Valka took a breath and told her mother what she heard. Mrs. Jorgenson listened to what her daughter had to say, and nodded in understanding her every word. Once her daughter was done venting, she decided to speak.

"Okay, I have to agree that these people don't know what you are going through. They think they have you figured out, but they don't. Now I do have to say that some of the women here do understand what you are going through. Many of them have lost children the same way you have, and for some more than once."

"So what do you want me to do?"

"Nothing, you can't do anything. All you can do is to ignore them, everything will die down."

"But what if they're right? What if I can't carry children? What if I'll never have children?"

"Now Valka-" before she could finish her daughter kept panicking.

"Mom, what if I can't have children? I'm useless! I'm supposed to give Stoick an heir! I can't even do that!"

"Valka just hear me-"

"Stoick's going to file for a divorce! He needs a woman that can bear children; he can't be with me anymore!"

"Valka Stop it!" the young woman heard her mother scream and felt her place her hands on her bicep. She felt her mom give her a small shake to get her attention. "You are 17 years old, not 30. You are young and healthy enough to have a baby. We don't know why your son died, but he did. That doesn't mean you can't have children ever again. Do you understand me?"

Valka looked down and nodded. She felt her mother wrap her arms around her and she copied her actions. Valka buried her face in the crook of her mother's neck. She knew that her mother was right, but she couldn't shake this feeling that Stoick would leave her because she might not be able to have children.

~oOo~

It's been a year since then and it's the morning of Stoick and Valka's fifth anniversary. After the months of their son's death, Valka has been receiving roses on her husband pillow when she woke up alone in bed. It was his way of saying "went off to do chiefly duties, have a good day".

On the morning of their anniversary, Valka found a single red rose on her husband's pillow once again. This time she noticed there was a note as well. She picked up the note and saw her husband's handwriting on it.

I'm sorry that this morning didn't go as planned. I promise I'll make it up to you.
~ Stoick

Valka sighed miserably, she wished they could wake up together every morning, but that's what happens when you're married to The Chief. It seemed like it has gotten worse ever since the miscarriage. She only got to see him during meals and getting ready for bed. She felt like he was trying to avoid her and that he wanted nothing to do with her, and the roses were only there to make up for it. Valka put the rose bud by her nose and smelled it. She got up to get dressed and went about her day. When she walked out of the house, she saw her brother and Unn walking together. She loved that her brother was with someone (all because of her).

She was glad that Spitelout's focus wasn't on training like it used to be. She was glad he had someone besides his training buddies. She shook the thoughts in her head and kept walking, but was stopped by Spitelout. "I need your help little sis." He whispered to her. Valka nodded and waited for him to tell her what he needed.

"Okay, what do you need help with?"

"No, not here, we need to talk somewhere private." He whispered back. Valka sighed and took her brother's forearm and pulled him back to her house.

"Hey, where are you guys going?" Unn asked seeing her boyfriend and his sister leaving her.

"I'll be back Unn; I just need to talk to my sister in private." He said before Valka shut the door behind them. Unn just stood there and rolled her eyes before walking way.

Back inside of the house, Valka pulled out two chairs for her and her brother. "Alright, so what do you need help with?" she asked him. Spitelout took a breath and gave a weak smile.

"Listen, I know it's your anniversary and you should be with your husband, but I need a favor."

"What did you do now?" she groaned expecting the worse from him.

"I haven't done anything…..at least not yet, but that's why I'm here."

"Just spit it out, Spitelout!"

"I want you and Stoick to come with me when I talk to Unn's parents about marriage arrangements." He finally confessed to her. Valka smiled and stood up from her chair.

"Oh Lout that's great, but why are you asking me now? I mean, shouldn't dad be there?"

Spitelout scoffed before he spoke. "Really? Dad? I know dad is supposed to be there when we sign the contract, but I don't really trust him to handle my married life." He saw his sister look down at the ground; he realized what he just said and got up to comfort her. "Oh, I didn't mean it like that. I mean…I just don't trust dad after what happened, and….oh I'm not making this any better."

"Lout, it's okay. I understand what you meant. Anyway, I'll talk to Stoick about being there when you talk to Mr. and Mrs. Kacper. When do you plan on talking to them?"

Spitelout cringed a bit before giving her his answer. "Sometime today."

"Today? Are you crazy? Why the short notice?"

"I didn't want to bother you since your feelings were everywhere, and her father is leaving for a fishing trip tomorrow. Today is the only logical day to ask for their blessing."

Valka groaned and buried her face in her hands. "Alright, alright, when Stoick has time, we'll go to the Kacper's and you better be there!"

"Thank you Valka! You are the best sister ever!"

"I'm your only sister, Lout. Now go home and let me spend my anniversary with my husband before we help you out."

"You got it, and thanks again." Spitelout said with a grin and walked out of the house.

~oOo~

It was around evening, and Stoick and Valka were having a meal in their home for the first time in months. Valka hadn't asked Stoick to come with her when her brother went to see Unn's parents, and she was a bit scared to ask. She wasn't so sure how he would react about her brother. Stoick noticed she had been acting weird all day, and he finally wanted to know what was bothering her.

"Okay, you are hiding something from me. What is going on?"

Valka sighed and put her fork down. "My brother came by this morning and he wants to sign a marriage contract with the Kacpers tonight."

"Oh, that's good. I'm glad to see him going to the next step in his life." Stoick said before taking a bite of his meat.

"Did I mention he wants us to be there?" She asked with a squeak in her tone.

"What? Why does he want us there? Shouldn't his dad be…" before he finished his statement, he realized why Spitelout wanted them to be there. "….oh, do you know if your mom will be there with us?"

"Does that count as a yes?"

Stoick gave her a small smile and got up from his chair. "Come on; let's go get your brother."

"Thank you."

~oOo~

Stoick saw Spitelout walking to the village and the three went off to the Kacpers. Mr. Kacper was glad enough to sign the contract and his wife agreed as well. Unn didn't know about the contract and they wanted Spitelout to tell her the news in the morning.

Stoick and Valka left the Kacpers and walked back home. Valka was glad that her brother was going to marry the woman that he grew to love, while she was arranged to be married. A part of her wondered what her and Stoick's life would be like if they had never gotten married. She wondered if they would have ever fallen in love like her brother did. She knew her and mother had talked about it before, but she couldn't help but wonder.

She still had this aching feeling that Stoick would leave her if she couldn't get pregnant. Part of her role was to give him a child, more specially a son. They lost their son and she wondered if she would ever get pregnant again. A part of her wanted to file for a divorce before he could.

~oOo~

The next morning, Stoick woke up and saw that Valka was out of bed. He knew that she normally didn't wake up before him, so he knew something was wrong. He got dressed and saw her sitting at the dining table.

"Why are you up so early?" he asked her walking to the table to take a seat next to her. Valka sighed before answering.

"I had trouble sleeping."

"Is something wrong?"

Valka bit her lip trying to think of what to say. She couldn't think of any way to sugar coat it, so she just spoke out. "Do you still want to be married to me if I can't have a baby?"

"What? That's crazy! Of course I would still be married to you, and if you can't have a baby, we could always adopt."

"But it won't be your blood."

"Val, I don't care if you can't have a baby. I care about you, Val….And I know I don't say this enough, but I do love you." He saw tears forming in her aqua green eyes. She put a hand over her eyes and felt him pull her towards him. She kept crying out of relief, and muffled an "I love you too" through her hands.

For the first time in a year, she felt connected to her husband. She never knew how much she missed him since the death of her son. She tried to not be intimate with him in any way in fear that he would say something that he would regret. Now that she knew that he truly loved her, she didn't fear for their relationship anymore.

A/N: I just want to say this because I had another person ask me about the 10 year age gap.

I did NOT come up with this age gap, the website said that Stoick was 50 and the art book said that Valka was 40 in the second film. Until Dreamworks says other wise, all my fanfics with Stalka will have a 10 year age gap.

This fanfic is just based on one of my many headcanons on how they could have gotten together. I will write more Stalka fanfics in the future that will not be related to this one.

I just wanted to point that out and don't forget to review and please no flames.

Thank you for reading my Author's Note :)
