By the time December came around again the gang was happily settled into their new lifestyles and daily routines. Tori, Cat and Andre were enjoying college and Beck, Jade and Robbie were happy in their jobs. Without Hollywood Arts to join them all together it was a bit more difficult to get everyone together, but it made it even better when they did see each other.
Although life was different now that school was over, things hadn't really changed that much. Andre and Tori were successfully living together in their apartment, having had few if any true arguments since they got back together. Beck and Jade were still completely in love with each other and their 1 and a half year old daughter Elsa was walking now and sometimes even running which meant the young parents were constantly on their toes. As for the others, Robbie was still single but Cat was in a new relationship. It was months ago that Cat first approached Jade, who was sitting in the living room reading, and told her she had a crush on someone.
"Robbie right?" Jade raised an eyebrow wondering why it had taken Cat this long to come talk to her about this.
"No... Robbies my friend, nothing more." Cat twisted a strand of her hair nervously. Jade closed her book and gave her friend her full attention.
"I thought that you two were always flirting with each other?" Jade queried.
"Maybe for a while I thought I liked him. But I realised a long time ago that I only see him as a friend." Cat explained, still twisting her hair tightly.
"Then who do you like?" Jade smiled as Cats cheeks blushed almost as rosy red as her hair. "Cat don't be shy you can tell me!"
"Ahhh!" Cat hid her face behind her hair and quickly kicked her feet about before finally speaking again. "She's called Kylie. She's in my Art class."
Jade was surprised for a second finally realising why Cat was finding it so hard to get her words out, but she pulled herself together again before the red head could notice. "And does she feel the same way about you?"
"Maybe... Shes confusing." Cat sighed. "Sometimes I think she does but other times she seems more interested in Gary."
"Have you figured out if she, you know, swings that way?" Jade approached the situation carefully.
"She's bisexual" Cat nodded, "but that doesn't mean she'd like me."
"Umm hello? You're an amazing person, beautiful and hilarious! If this chick has any taste she'll like you back." Jade reassured her.
"So you don't think I'm weird then?" Cat asked Jade shyly.
"No you are weird." Jade smiled, squeezing Cats hand supportively. "But not for this."
Jade didn't tell Beck what their roommate had told her right away as she didn't consider it hers to tell. As the days went on Kylie started visiting the apartment more and more and Jade figured out for herself that they were a couple now. But it wasn't until her boyfriend saw Cat and the blonde girl cozying up under a blanket on the balcony one evening that he started to get suspicious and Jade had to tell him what she knew.
"So Cat's a lesbian now?" Beck asked in confusion. The couple had moved into their bedroom so Jade could explain the situation to him in private.
"No.. I mean, maybe she is, maybe she's bi.." Jade ran both her hands through her hair. "She never told me but it doesn't matter, just don't tell her that I told you."
"Who else knows? Tori? What about Robbie? Does he know?" Beck looked perplexed.
"As far as I know I'm the only person who knows about them." Jade shrugged.
"As long as she's not scared to tell us because Kylie's a girl. She knows we wouldn't care if she dates girls or guys." Beck emphasized.
"I know but maybe she just needs a bit more time before she's ready to tell people." Jade defended the red head. "I'm sure she knows you'd be supportive."
"I hope so." Beck replied. The couple then returned downstairs where Cat and Kylie were laughing and setting up a movie. Beck and Jade sat down on the larger couch accepting Cat's invitation to join them before the red head jumped up to go make some snacks. Jade analysed Kylie carefully for the subsequent five minutes. Kylie had shoulder length blonde hair and was taller than Cat but shorter than Jade. She also dressed quite gothically, which impressed her, and had a small hoop in her nostril. When Cat returned to the room with the snacks, Kylie's eyes lit up and that was enough for Jade to decide she liked the girl. She made Cat happy and at the end of the day that was all that mattered.
The day before her birthday Jade went over to Tori's for a catch up. Obviously Elsa came along too because without school in the way Elsa spent the majority of her time with her mother now. Elsa still stayed at Beck's parents regularly but not every week like she used to. After making themselves some coffee from Tori's new fancy beverage maker they each took a seat on the couch.
"Aren't you excited for tomorrow?" Tori asked almost overflowing with her own excitement.
"Not really." Jade shook her head at her crazy friend. "There's nothing good about a Christmas Eve Birthday. Theres basically nothing you can do."
"Well this year might be different." Tori shrugged. Jade was about to argue otherwise but didn't have time before noticing her daughter burying her hand in the soil of one of Andre's potted plants.
"Elsa no!" Jade cried. Elsa pulled her hand out of the pot and sprinkled soil all over the wooden floors and her outfit.
"Cra-" Jade stopped herself from cursing and picked up the toddler who was now covered in dirt.
"Don't worry I'll get it." Tori stood up to grab the brush to clean the mess. Jade rummaged about in her bag for some wet wipes and cleaned Elsa as best as she could. Elsa babbled and giggled cutely.
"You are so messy and I just gave you a bath this morning!" Jade told the toddler, handing her her dolly to distract her whilst she combed soil out of her fine brown hair. Elsa wriggled out of Jades arms and ran over to her toy pram to put her dolly in and proceeded to run around pushing her in it.
"Elsa no!" Jade chased the toddler who squealed in delight finding the whole thing a game. Jade finally managed to grab her daughter and sit her down on the sofa.
"You're a bad girl!" Jade tickled Elsa on the tummy making her scream with laughter. Tori rejoined them on the couch and kissed the toddler on the cheek. No matter what Elsa did it was always adorable but Tori could sense that Jade was beginning to find the antics less funny than she was stressful.
"You know if you ever need a babysitter—"
"You're there." Jade finished Tori's sentence for her with a sarcastic tone. Tori shoved the pale girl lightly on the arm for making fun of her and both of them laughed.
"How's songwriting going?" Tori changed the subject.
"Meh." Jade shrugged handing Elsa a rice cake as the toddler began whining in hunger. "I don't really get to write my own stuff anymore. I'm mostly editing other peoples songs but I guess you have to start somewhere"
"At least you don't have January exams!" Tori exclaimed. "College is evil. I'm starting to wonder why I ever thought it would be a good idea."
"I'm not gonna lie, I don't regret giving it a miss." Jade replied truthfully. "But even without all the nerdy stuff my brain is becoming mush."
"Why?" Tori asked, shaking her head as Elsa tried to share her rice cake with her. Or rather forcefully pushed a piece towards her Godmother's lips whilst simultaneously clambering all over her legs.
"Elsa no!" Jade lifted the toddler back onto the floor who finally started playing nicely. "Well lets just say the only songs I sing these days are Wheels on the Bus, Twinkle Twinkle, oh and wait for it… Let It Go." Jade smirked, not really annoyed with the situation.
"You deserve that last one." Tori smirked. "Well only one more year and she'll be in preschool and you'll be free again."
"Yeah." Jade smiled, picking up the coffee mug that was finally cool enough to sip from. She sipped her drink in silence hoping her friend couldn't read her facial expressions as they gave away instantly that she wasn't expecting free time any time soon.
"Happpy Birthdaaaaaay!" Cat squealed, running into the living room and wrapping her arms tightly around Jade who'd been sitting in the living room drinking her first coffee of the day. It was just before 10am and the young Mother had already been up for hours with Beck who had smothered her with Birthday kisses and delivered her breakfast in bed.
"Umfff!" Jade complained as Cat almost made her spill her drink everywhere. "Why are you so happy?"
"I'm just excited to give you your present!" Cat bounced up and down in her seat excitedly. Jade raised a suspicious eyebrow, wondering how long it would be before Kylie rang the doorbell. Elsa, who had been playing with her toys in the corner of the room, toddled over to the two of them curiously as Cat pulled a red and purple wrapped present from under the table and handed it to Jade.
"Hiya Elsie!" Cat lifted the toddler onto her knee and bounced her whilst Jade teared the paper off the present. Beck had shockingly been called into work this afternoon so he was pacing up and down the hall trying to quickly memorise his lines and hardly seemed to notice what was going on. When Jade finally pulled the paper off she gasped.
"Cat! Shut up!" Jade exclaimed, opening the box containing the polaroid picture camera which she'd wanted for ages.
"Too-doo!" Cat squealed excitedly. "Do you like it?"
"I love it! You didn't need to get me this!" Jade said still astounded. She put the box down on the table and hugged Cat tightly. Elsa was still sitting on Cats knee so she babbled as the two friends squeezed each other.
"Sorry Babe." Beck interrupted them suddenly. "Work have pushed my call time forward so I have to leave now."
"Okay." Jade replied stonily. "This better be worth it. What kind of director makes you film on Christmas Eve anyway?"
"My one. I'm really sorry. I love you. I'll make it up to you." Beck pleaded with her, crouching down so they were face to face.
"Yeah you will." Jade smirked, angling her cheek to her boyfriend expectantly. Beck kissed her cheek and fluffed Elsa's hair before running out the door. Cat jumped up to go shower and get ready for Kylie to arrive leaving Jade and Elsa in the living room. The toddler was drooling, chewing the corner of her book cutely and Jade smiled pressing a kiss to the top of her baby's head.
"Just you and me left Els." Jade said despondently. She hadn't expected to be doing anything amazing for her birthday but lunch with her boyfriend and friends would have been nice. Apart from Cat's amazing present she felt forgotten about.
