John and Lita had been at the latter's parents house for the last couple of days and were finally coming back home. Lita told John he could have went back to Atlanta without her some days earlier and she would come back later, but he knew she was still terrified that Matt was out there because unlike him, she didn't know Matt was arrested a few days earlier. He learned that bit of information when Detective Michaels called to inform him about the news. John didn't tell Lita about the arrest yet because he knew he would have to tell her about Melina and she was already dealing with her dad's death so he was just going to wait a little big longer for that. He decided he would tell her a little later that day.
"Oh crap," John said as he stopped in place when the two were walking to the apartment complex when they finally arrived home. "I forgot my phone in the car. I'm gonna go get it," he said as he took the apartment key from out the bunch of keys and handed it over to Lita, "you can just go upstairs. I'll be there in like five minutes."
"Um, okay," Lita reluctantly took the keys from him like she was unsure whether or not she wanted to go up there by herself which is something John could sense.
"You can go with me if you want or wait inside or just go upstairs. It's up to you, I was just suggesting-"
Lita shook her head. "No, it's um... I'll just go upstairs."
"Alright," John smiled before he went back to his car to get his phone.
Lita watched as John disappeared. She turned around and simply stared at the building for a moment. She shook her head at herself because she didn't know why she was feeling so anxious and afraid of going in the building by herself. It wasn't like Matt was there. Or so she thought.
Matt smiled to himself from a corner from inside the building as he watched Lita walk into it by herself. He was released from jail on bail early the day before. There wasn't enough evidence for him to be incarcerated any longer for Melina's murder. He spent two whole days in that dump only to get out and find out he had been suspended from his position as a police officer until the legal process played itself out. He had been waiting for Lita for the last two days now and finally she was back. Now Matt was going to fulfill the promise he made to himself while he was being arrested.
Lita got inside the elevator when it opened up, she pressed for the seventh floor, and it was about to shut until someone else decided to enter. Lita didn't really seem to notice as she was listening to a message Dawn left her earlier that day. She was about to call Dawn back, but that's when something strange happened. The elevator randomly shook and then completely stopped working. She looked up and that's when she noticed she wasn't alone in the elevator. She was about to say something, but no words left when the other occupant of the elevator took of the hood he was wearing to reveal his face. He managed to get his hands on the elevator key when he distracted someone working at the front desk and used it to stop the elevator from working from inside of it.
"Surprise surprise," Matt smirked at a frightened Lita. He saw the phone in her hands and thought she was a couple of moments away from getting out of shock and using it to call someone. So the first thing he did when he walked up to her was take the phone from her hands and threw it down on the ground, then stomped on it to make sure it was broken.
"Did you miss me?"
Matt was taken aback by Lita's reaction because he was sure she was still scared and wouldn't say anything. But not only was she saying something verbally, she was also speaking physically.
"You stupid stupid sick son of a bitch!" Lita yelled as she began punching him. "You are such a pathetic bastard who needs to rot in hell." She continued to hit him and yell at him until he was able to get the better of her. He grabbed her and stopped her from attacking him. He shook her and then slammed her back against the wall. He started to choke her as a way to stop her from shouting.
"I guess you heard about your dear little daddy, huh?" Matt asked as he smirked at Lita who was trying to catch he breath after he stopped choking her. "I just thought Melina was getting lonely and could use a friend. Luckily for her, your dad was ready to go."
Lita looked very surprised and confused at what he just said because she was still in the dark about the fact that her father wasn't the first person Matt killed.
"Oh, did no one tell you? Melina knew too much, she had to go. She was getting herself into places she wasn't needed. I took the liberty of taking care of that little problem. I might have killed her and your dad, but it's really all your fault. You made me this, so you can't blame me. This is all of your fault because if you didn't leave me, then two less people would be dead."
"And let's not forget that it's also your fault I spent some time in jail. Yea, two whole days stuck in a little cell with criminals."
"Don't you mean other criminals," Lita interrupted him before he could get any further. "You used to beat me like every single day and you killed two people and that's not enough for you to considered a criminal? You are a delusional psychotic pathetic piece of shit."
"Nice to know you still got a mouth on yourself. Still a little ballsy, huh? You know I can just kill you right here and now. I don't need a gun for it. I can just kill you with my bare hands right here and now."
"Go ahead Matt. Go right ahead and kill me. I'm not afraid of you anymore."
"Tell that your face."
"Why don't you try picking on someone your own size and... oh yea... gender!"
"What do you think your brother and dad were?"
Lita didn't say anything for a while and that's when Matt let his guard down. He soon realized that was a big mistake. Lita kicked him in his shin as hard as she could. She kicked him a second time and was about to make her way to the other end of the elevator so she could call for the operator, but Matt was faster than her. He moved through the pain and grabbed her and pulled her close to himself as she struggled to get out of his hold. Lita began to scream again, but Matt covered her mouth.
"Make one more sound you whore and I promise you it will be the last sound you ever make."
Lita didn't say anything and it wasn't like she could even if she wanted. She closed her eyes shut not knowing what was going to happen next. Maybe it would be better if Matt did just kill her. He always seemed to be able to find her. She was just getting so sick and tired of all of it. All her friends efforts in trying to keep her safe and away from him seemed to be of no good use.
"You're never going to get one up on me. You can try and try, but you're always going to fail. I will always find you." He stopped for a moment before continuing. "You smell good, but then again, you always do. Oh, I really do miss you. You know I could never kill you because I would just miss you too much and all the fun times we can still have."
That was enough for Lita to blow up again. Matt was really beginning to piss her off even more than she already was. She elbowed him as hard as she could which was enough for him to let go of her. She turned around and punched him. She was about to punch him again, but he grabbed her arm midair and stopped her fist from meeting his jaw again. Matt pushed her and she landed at an angle that her head hit hard against the bar. And then that's when everything went black for her.
Matt was pretty satisfied with his actions and pulled the key out of the lock which made the elevator work again. It stopped on the fourth floor and Matt pulled the hood of his hoodie back up before he left. He was lucky enough that the floor was empty and no one was around to see him leave it. He threw Lita's phone that he previously broke in a nearby trashcan. There was no way he was about to leave it in the elevator where it could be used for evidence against him. He went back downstairs from the stairwell and went right back to his car so he could leave. He wasn't going to take the chance of being seen by John who he saw walking in right when he was walking out.
It took John a little longer than he thought it would to get his phone because it wasn't where he thought it was in the middle of the two seats in the cup holders. He found it on the ground in the back of the car. He had no clue how it got there.
Once he got inside the building, he saw a couple of people surrounded by the elevators. He didn't really think much of it because the door was open and there was nothing unusual about it because they were probably about to get inside so they could go where they needed. But then John saw that no one was getting inside. He became a little intrigued and walked where everyone was. He was shocked to see Lita lying on the ground.
"What the hell happened?" John asked when he saw Lita, who was now slowly sitting up as she was getting back to consciousness, rubbing at her head. Her head was pounding, her whole body was hurting.
"Don't know," one of the onlookers from besides John replied. "She might need medical help so I'm going to call-"
"No hospitals," came Lita's quiet voice as she interrupted the other woman.
"But-"
"No!" Lita interrupted more louder than before. She immediately regretted it when she felt the pain in her head get even worse.
The woman was about to insist, but John spoke before she could. "She said no hospitals so no."
The woman didn't say anything to that and just continued on her own way just like the other observers when she thought John would just take it from there.
"What happened? Are you sure you don't want to go to the hospital?" John said when he joined Lita in the elevator. She looked a little unsteady so he helped her stand up.
Lita didn't say anything for a while so John asked her once again, but she still didn't give him an answer. He waited until they got up to their floor and inside. Lita went straight to her room and he decided to follow her.
"What happened? Did you pass out in there or something? Are you feeling sick?"
Lita still didn't say anything so John was about to ask her what happened inside the elevator for what felt like the billionth time, but that's when she finally decided to speak up even though it wasn't the answer to what John asked. Well, it kind of was. "Why didn't you tell me about Melina?"
John was surprise by what Lita just said. He had no clue how he knew about that. "Wait, was Matt in there with you? Did he do something to you? He was supposed to be in jail."
"Yea, well he's not. And you still didn't answer my question."
John sighed. "I know and I was going to tell you later today-"
Lita shook her head. "I'm sure you were."
"I was. I... I didn't want to tell you because of everything with your dad and... look, I'm sorry for not telling you. What did Matt do?"
"What do you think he did?! He hit me! That's what he does! He hits me and he calls me names!" She took a brief pause and continued calmly. "I don't know how he did it, but he made the elevator stuck while we were inside of it. He took my phone from me and broke it as a way to stop me from calling for help. He told me he killed my dad because he felt that Melina needed a friend after he killed her too." She didn't notice it until now, but the tears were rolling down her face. She continued again when she felt like she was able to stop crying for the moment. She finished the rest of the story and how she was trying to fight against Matt but that just seemed to make things worse.
"I'm really sorry. I thought he was in jail. I didn't know he was out. I didn't know he would-"
"Just leave me alone," Lita interrupted without looking at him. She really didn't care what he had to say. She was just so pissed off and upset at the moment. She wasn't angry with John. She knew she shouldn't be taking her anger out of him, but he was there and it just seemed to be working that way.
"But-"
"Please. Just please leave me alone."
John didn't say anything and left the room and left her alone like she requested. He really didn't think there was much else he could do at the moment. He hoped Matt would just disappear because he really didn't feel like there was anything he could do. The only thing he could think of so that Matt would leave Lita alone forever was just to kill Matt himself, but that probably wasn't the best idea even though it did sound like it. But there really wasn't much else he could think to do. There had to be a way to connect Matt to not only Melina's death, but also Lita's dad's death. Something had to be done. He couldn't keep getting away with everything.
