"Young-ah?" She called softly, her eyes fixed on the ring wrapped around her finger; they were still in bed, after all it was still early morning and the sun was barely peeking outside the windows. Choi Young's hand was linked with hers, even in sleep, and he simply squeezed softly in response, letting her know that he was awake. "Where did you get the money to buy these rings?"
Choi Young sighed and turned, wrapping around her curled form and kissing the back of her neck. "I pawned a gold piece; they gave me a surprising amount of money." He stirred and kissed her hair. "Good morning."
"Morning, but how did you know where to go?"
"I just did, Imja, no big deal." She wasn't yet aware of his friend, the boy from the past that traveled to the future, and in Choi Young's opinion, she shouldn't know about him. She stared at him with a little frown, suspicious.
"You aren't befriending young girls from college, are you?"
"What girls Imja?" Eun Soo sat up, and looked at him. "What?"
"I don't want you talking to cute girls in college, understood? Better yet, don't go back to work, find some other useful thing to do. Maybe the president can give you a job at the Blue House."
"Blue House?"
"That's the name of the President's house, like his castle."
"So he has a castle too? I thought this was a different kind of government."
"The Blue House is the house of all presidents."
"Then it must be awfully crowded."
"What I meant is that when their turn ends they have to move out and a new president moves in."
"Nothing new for me. I've seen Kings moving in and out, usually they move out in a box."
"Daejang you seem to be in a very good mood. Why is that?"
"I wonder why…" He smiled and turned to her, pulling her down and wrapping around her. "Could it be because I woke up next to my new bride?" Eun Soo laughed and turned to kiss him, they fooled around for a few more minutes and then settled into the soft bedding… before her stomach grumbled with hunger. "I think I should go out and hunt for breakfast."
"How about some coffee first?"
"I refuse to try such an addictive thing, I remember the headaches you had because there was no coffee in Goryeo."
"Fine, then, tea." She sat up, and stirred, while Choi Young sighed. "Come on, husband, rise and shine. Let's eat something, we have a lot of things to do."
"Like what?"
"Well you said you got a lot of money for that piece of gold, we better put that money away somewhere safe. And you need new clothes for dinner with President of South Korea."
"You make it sound so formal. It's just dinner, with lots of forks and spoons."
"Well Dad said you need to wear white, the Secretary said so."
"White." He murmured, and then sighed. "I refuse. Ask your father to cancel dinner with the man." And finally got up.
"Why do you hate white so much! You would look good in white." Eun Soo smiled, there was a particular sway to his hips this morning, something that made him look quite tempting. He must really be happy, she's never seen such a sway in those slim hips. Was that because of her? Eun Soo laughed and stood up, moving swiftly, with a sway of her own, towards the kitchen.
On her way to the kitchen she picked her phone from the center table in the living room and checked the screen. She had fourteen messages, and nine missed calls. Most of them from Hana (no surprise there) asking if everything went well; just that. Hana must be sick, she wasn't asking for details, that or she was busy herself. Jung Woo also texted her, asking for Choi Young's number and that surprised her. It was a good idea for Choi Young and Jung Woo to become close friend, after all there were things that they could talk about, man to man, and Jung Woo was a very proper man he wouldn't go asking crazy things like Hana sometimes did. Eun Soo sent the number but when she didn't get an immediate response she imagined he must be working and left it at that.
She needed new clothes for the dinner so it would be a good idea to start shopping soon. "Young-ah, are you really not wearing white?"
Ignoring the question, Choi Young sat on bed, and looked down at the lit up screen of his phone. He didn't recognize must of the symbols displayed there, and worried this might be one of those crazy reporters who'd been trying to follow him around, yet sighed and answered the phone. Amazingly enough it was the doctor friend.
"Listen, I know you don't like me, and likewise but I need to talk to you about something." Choi Young tensed, and turned to look towards the door, where Eun Soo slid by, gathering something in her arms, probably the mess of clothes she'd made the night before.
"What could that be?" Choi Young hoped the man wasn't about to suggest some sort of duel to get Eun Soo back because there was no way he could let Jung Woo win.
"Well, to make a long story short, I told my mother about Soo-ya's marriage and she wants you two to come over to the resort…"
"Resort?"
"My mother owns one, anyway, she wants you two over, and celebrate your honeymoon." Choi Young remained quiet, not sure on how to answer. Actually he knew exactly how to answer but didn't want to be rude to the man. Why would he tell others that Imja was now married? "Hello? You there?"
"Yes," Said Choi Young softly. "I will talk to Eun Soo and call you back."
"Alright, sorry if it bothered you."
"No, on the contrary, thank your mother for such a gift."
"Sure, man… bye." And the man hastily hung up, apparently nervous. Choi Young stood and threw the phone to the side, calling his wife's name. It was funny, every time he thought she was now his wife… His stomach flipped and he couldn't help but smile. Eun Soo appeared, questioning him with her eyes.
"Jung Woo just called me, did you give him my number?"
"Yeah. Was it something bad?"
"No, I think you will like it actually."
.
.
"Why is it that for every little thing we must go shopping?"
"I have no idea what you mean." Said Eun Soo as she looked over the shorts she'd selected, Choi Young sat on the bench close by, feeling slightly uncomfortable surrounded by female articles. After telling Eun Soo about the short conversation with Jung Woo, the woman had insisted they ate out, so they could shop longer. They had to find him something called a bathing suit and sandals, while she was supposed to get some shorts and shirts for their short trip. Of course Eun Soo had called Jung Woo and had gotten the details, too excited the woman just jolted down the address to the small beachside resort her friend's mother owned and thanked him for the gift. It had to be his doing, the woman wasn't too prone to give such gifts away. So Eun Soo finally selected what she would be buying, and handed Choi Young some of the items, he started to inspect everything and the more he looked the deeper his frown grew.
"Imja?"
"Mmm?" She asked, looking at some sunglass stand nearby.
"Why would you wear such uncomfortable undergarments?"
"Those aren't undergarments." She said softly, selecting a pair of glasses and trying them on. "Those are shorts, like the ones the girls wore at my father's picnic, remember?"
Everything fell to the floor as Choi Young stood, surprised and not happy at all, making Eun Soo turn to him surprised. "Absolutely not! You will not be wearing these little things anywhere."
"Not even inside the house?" She asked, obviously teasing him. He was about to respond with the same strength he'd been talking before, but seemed to consider his answer. "It's alright, girls can wear these shorts garments outside…"
"I do not feel comfortable with my wife wearing such small garments." He confessed, looking serious; he wasn't amused and Eun Soo had to sigh and place the sunglasses back on their place. Choi Young watched another woman walk by, wearing some shorts and a sleeveless shirt, Eun Soo wouldn't wear something like that right? She's always wearing jeans and shirts… but those little things scattered all over the floor… Eun Soo started to gather the items and Choi Young started to help her. "Imja…"
"It's the year two thousand and fourteen Choi Young, here girls wear even smaller clothes." She said softly, and picked a pair of shorts. "You would be amazed with what I want to wear. You have to accept that clothes here are quite different."
"I know that; I don't want people looking at you."
"I married you not any other John walking around. No matter what clothes I wear I'm yours."
"Imja, have you any idea how beautiful you are? I might kill any man who stares at you for more than two seconds."
"That is so romantic Daejang." She kissed him, stunning him into silence. Was she going to be so defiant throughout their marriage? He was sure it would cause a lot of bickering between them. "I'm still buying these clothes, and you need a pair of swimming trunks..." Choi Young was about to say something when Eun Soo stood, and a sale girl appeared asking if everything was alright. "Oh, married couples fight, nothing important."
Nothing important… aish, this woman was going to drive him crazy.
"Come on Daejang, let's look at trunks for you."
"This is a women's clothing store, Imja, I doubt they have…" But Eun Soo was already walking towards the other side of the store, to the back of it, carrying the pile of clothes she carried. Sighing, Choi Young just stood and followed, fixing two really short pair of pants he'd managed to pick up.
Eun Soo ended up buying a pair of white shorts for Choi Young, even when he swore never to use it. "Didn't you ever swim in a river or the beach?"
"Of course I did, but I was surrounded by men, so it didn't matter what I wore."
"Then consider yourself lucky, you'll be surrounded by men and women and it won't matter what you wear. Or me for that matter."
"I still think you should buy a big towel."
"My towels are fine."
"Just buy a large towel for me."
"So you can wrap it around me?"
"I would wrap you with a towel if you were wet."
"We'll be under water."
"Then you'll be wrapped with a towel underwater. Come let's find one that goes with your shorts."
"Choi Young!"
The husband figured that since his wife loved to shop so much he had two things to do: he will have to learn the layout of the whole building, and he would have to find a job that provided for her shopping sprees and their living expenses. The things he did for this woman.
.
.
"Must I learn to do this?"
"If you want to keep my happy; yes."
"I know plenty of other ways of making you happy Imja." And Choi Young sighed, after hearing Eun Soo squeal, and looked at her going around the kitchen. She poured a small quantity of ground coffee into the small coffee maker, then switched the button on, there was water already in the appliance so as it dripped, Eun Soo turned to the kitchen and showed him the quantity of milk (or sometimes she used cream) she liked. Then how to heat it up in the microwave, to what he argued that it was better to warm on the stove (what prompted a bit of bickering), and then how much coffee exactly she liked. Amazingly enough she liked her coffee pretty dark. No wonder she got such terrible headaches during her stay in Goryeo.
She ended up pouring the mixture into a thermos and then had him pack some clothes for their weekend.
"Well everything is still on their bags, why pack it? Let's just take the bags with us." He suggested, half serious; Eun Soo furrowed her brow at him. "What?"
"Wow; so men have always been lazy. It's not a new thing." And shaking her head, without explaining much, she walked to their room.
Choi Young smiled and followed her to help with packing.
.
.
For some reason Hana and Jung Woo tagged along. Choi Young understood the concept of honeymoon, according to all Eun Soo had explained, but he wasn't sure if this was normal. Eun Soo was cranky, so he rather not ask and just try and make her happy, as hard as it sounded at the moment. She was sitting beside him, arms crossed and leaning on her seat, staring at Hana, who was fighting with Jung Woo at the front of the car. A headache was building in the back of the general's head and he was about to do something only the men under his command had suffered; he turned to look at Eun Soo, then tsked and decided to keep it in.
"It's not like we are in a hurry anywhere; they can't have sex!"
"Alright! That's enough!" Screamed Choi Young, and slid his hand around Jung Woo's shoulder, "Stop the car right now or I will snap your neck." Adrenaline running through his veins, Choi Young lost his cool, and decided to stop the torture these two were submitting the woman he loved (and himself) he decided to act. Besides Hana had to learn her lesson and stop talking so recklessly about her friend's life.
Jung Woo agreed quickly, while Hana babbled that he should stop, but Choi Young simply applied some pressure to the man's neck and while Eun attempted to made him stop, Jung Woo accepted and moved the car to the side of the road. It was a lonely road and Jung Woo could only think that this man his best friend had married was a killer and was about to kill them all. As soon as the car had stopped, Choi Young ordered everyone out and holding Jung Woo's life, the women obeyed. The general had to admit but Jung Woo got out and somewhat offered his neck to continued been held as hostages, but Choi Young ordered Hana and the other man to the other side of the car, where there was a bit of tall grass, covering them from the prying eyes of the incoming drivers, if there were any. "Open the trunk." He ordered to Eun Soo, who hurried to obey, hoping he wasn't reaching for the sword he'd hidden under their luggage. "My ears are going to fall off if I hear any more nonsense!" He pulled Hana's and Jung Woo's bag and threw them towards them. "Can you drive this car?" Choi Young asked Eun Soo, who quickly nodded. "Then get to the front. And you two!" He screamed and pointed at the other couple; "Grow up! Maybe then you will realize you are both cut from the same cloth!" And with that he got into the car and barked at Eun Soo to drive away.
Tensely, watching the two human beings left to the side of the road try and follow them on foot, Eun Soo breathed out through her pursed lips. "Young-ah?" She asked, obviously frightened. "Where you really going to break his neck?"
Choi Young chuckled. "Break his neck? I could barely take a good hold of him."
"What?" She squeaked out, surprised.
"He was trembling like a leaf, you would have laughed."
"Oh my God… you are a great actor did you know that!" She swatted him repeatedly, as he laughed and took hold of her hand, kissing the pale limb. "I thought you were going to kill him for sure!" She finished angrily, and pulled her hand away, pouting as she drove.
"I could have, but the seat wouldn't have helped; I am annoyed at how freely your friend keeps talking about our personal matters before everyone, even your parents."
"But leaving them stranded on the middle of the road…"
"Fine, then go pick them up and I'll walk there!"
"There's no need to get all defensive!"
"It's our sex life they keep talking about!" Eun Soo had to agree to that, but he was just so used to having Hana pushing her buttons… She could only guess this was as far as Choi Young could handle. "We are not that far away, and we walked more in our time in Goryeo."
"Yeah, that's true." Muttered Eun Soo, turning the car into a small street to the right, the gardens to its side were well kept and Choi Young took in a breath, trying to relax. "I'm sure they'll make it here soon, I just hope Jung Woo's mother won't be too angry at the fact that we left her son in the middle of the road."
"Just tell her he asked for it."
"He did not! That's Hana's fault!"
"Then tell her he and Hana needed a relaxing walk."
"Alright, we'll see how it goes." She moved the car around a beautiful entrance, and parked it. "We are here."
Eun Soo left the car quickly and Choi Young followed; the small building was happily located in between a large summery garden. Choi Young hadn't seen some of the flowers growing there but he had little time to study them as he tried to catch up with his wife. An older lady walked towards them, smiling brightly. "Eun Soo-ya! So good to see you!" The woman said loudly, pulling the younger woman into a tight hug, obviously happy to see Eun Soo; "Jung Woo said you were thin and a little reclusive… I was worried!" She reprimanded in a gentle motherly voice, obviously this was Jung Woo's mother. "Look at you, you are in need of some good food."
"I'm fine, I promise."
"You must be fine, married? Really?" And turning Eun Soo looked at Choi Young, hwo realized the attention had shifted towards him, and gave the woman a respectful bow. Stunned the woman grinned and turned to Eun Soo. "Fine indeed! No wonder you agreed to marry so quickly! You don't want another woman to steal this gorgeous man!"
"Omoni stop it!" Said Eun Soo, swatting the woman's shoulder playfully, Eun Soo extended her hand towards her husband and he quickly took it. "Omoni, this is Choi Young, my husband."
"A pleasure to meet you." She shook hands with Choi Young and smiling turned to Eun Soo. "Where is Jung Woo, he was coming with you, or did he got a call from the hospital?"
Eun Soo smiled nervously, and Choi Young covered the woman's frail hand with his other hand. "He needed a walk. I'm sure he will be arriving soon."
"That girl Hana didn't get him in trouble again, did she?"
"Again?" Asked Choi Young while Eun Soo chuckled nervously again.
