"What did you get this time?" the wolf nodded at the mans bandaged forearm as he walked through the front door and into their home. The witch's lip twitched, forming a small smirk as grazed his hand over the simple white wrap that concealed his latest purchase; a permanent marker etched into his skin.
"You'll see later" he replied, revelling in the secrecy knowing full well it made the other man crazy being as curious as the witch himself even if he was less obvious about it.
"At least tell me if you got it from Kelly or Maddison?" the wolf asked stepping into the kitchen to help the younger man unload their groceries.
"You know Derek, I don't understand how people think you have patients sometimes-"
"Because I keep you for company" Derek interrupted fighting fire with fire and teasing back "but don't change the subject Stiles I wanna know."
Stiles smiled a simpler smile, one of happiness but in acknowledgment that the answer to that question needed to be a serious answer. Maddison was a talented artist that Stiles went to for his tattoos as she worked in a tattoo and body art workshop called Dragon City down town. Kelly, however, was a young man who owned an exclusive shop named After Taste which took residence 2 towns over from Beacon Hills. After Taste in the front seemed like a nice little spice, herbs and tea store for teas and herbal remedies but in the back room actually housed a tattoo parlour. Tattoos that specifically catered for witches using magic infused ink to create runes and binding spells.
"Kelly" Stiles reviled as he turned to put the apple juice and the mango juice in the fridge – Derek always insisted that apple juice was tedious and boring and opted for more exotic fruit juices so Stiles obliged in their weekly shops.
Derek nodded whilst putting the bread away not bothering to ask again, he knew that Stiles would tell him what his latest rune was in his own time when he'd come to terms with his new ability. It always took a little adjusting to sit comfortably after getting a new rune for Stiles because, as he put it, "it's like jetlag and pins and needles but mentally – magic lag" so Derek usually let him settle before poking to see Stiles' latest design. Over the past 6 years since he became a witch Stiles had had partial if not full input and dedication in the designing of all of his tattoos.
"How was work?" Stiles asked, briefly looking over his shoulder in his mates direction. Derek had started volunteering for the local fire department around 2 years ago after a supernatural incident blew up the whole building leaving the force under staffed due to casualties and hospitalised fighters, but eventually he got a full time paid job there and he loved it.
The wolf shrugged and answered "Got called out for some kid blowing up their microwave because they didn't use the popcorn setting and a 5 year old girl phoned the department because her balloon got stuck in a tree"
Stiles smiled to himself "So nothing out of the ordinary huh?" to which the other man shook his head before wrapping his arms around the younger male, resting his chin on his shoulder.
"What about you? Anything interesting happen at the precinct?" After a long time training at the police academy Stiles had passed with flying colours and had further gone on our be one of his dad's best deputies.
"Na, just a few parking tickets and teenagers shoplifting" Stiles huffed a laugh as he picked up two wine glasses, leaving the pans cooking as he set the table for dinner "Although Mrs Hederson was caught stealing again today; you know for a woman of her age she's pretty swifty, but I guess people don't expect 84 year olds to go swiping things off shelves" he smiled.
Derek went and retrieved a bottle of wine from the rack while he asked "What was it this time?" Mrs Henderson was a little old lady who had been banned from a number of stores throughout Beacon Hills for taking all sorts of things ranging from baby wipes to biscuits to bottles of whiskey – she even managed to sneak away with a gardening rake once.
"It wasn't too bad, the owner let her keep the tea bags and didn't press charges as long as she wouldn't try it again in their shop" Stiles took a sip of the red wine Derek had poured for him before watching the other man's boxer clad ass as it sauntered it's way back into
the kitchen to check on dinner.
"Not that I'm complaining but why aren't you wearing pants?" he asked his mouth screwed up and his eyebrows pinched in confusion.
Derek chuckled before pointing at the washing machine "I went to see Erica and Boyd on the way home and Zachariah threw up all over my jeans so I put them in the wash as soon as I got home"
"How's he doing now, has he still got that virus?" Stiles' confused look turned to worry about the young pup, Erica and Boyd's youngest son had recently caught a virus and even with him being a werewolf he still had an immune system that fitted his 1 year old body.
Stiles went over to help his mate with the food and as they were bringing it to the table Derek reassured him that Zack would be okay in a few days and the smell of sickness was wearing thinner around the young child.
They ate there meal and talked about the rest of their day and the upcoming events of lunch with Stiles' dad tomorrow, the full moon that weekend and the get together the pack were having that day. They talked about there plans for their holiday coming up in the summer and the beach house Stiles had managed to rent out that he, his mom and his dad used to go to before his mom got sick. Then, after clearing the plates into the dishwasher as nothing but an afterthought, they took their ascent up the stairs to their bedroom leaving a small trail of clothes behind them.
On the night of the full moon the pack always gathered as they did when they first became a pack when they were just teenagers. A lot had changed since then. The pack had grown for starters, more members had joined over the years many leaving again to join other packs or start their own but the original members who had started of their journey into the world of wacky and crazy together all remained the same. Some had had children, adopted or born, and they were all loved and cherished by every pack member as though they were there own.
There were still times where supernatural would come into the town, it was a supernatural beacon after all, and the nematon had never stopped giving them trouble.
Alex and Owen had joined the pack after the whole puppy ordeal 6 years ago and the bonds between Alex and Isaac and Owen and Jackson became stronger over the years, as did those between the whole pack and the Sheriff and Melissa. At John and Melissa's wedding they invited the whole pack and even had a private celebration the day after for pack members only to give them a true send off supernatural style to their honeymoon. There had been more marriages since then and even Stiles and Derek were engaged and planning their wedding for the fall.
But one thing had never changed no matter how many years had gone by.
"YOU CHEATED!" Scott screamed pointing at his husband across from him as Alison and Lydia gave each other the side eye as though to say not again.
"I did not!" Isaac yelled back and as Scott squinted his eyes at him Isaac picked up his daughter and swung her into his lap.
"Riley, baby, tell your daddy we didn't cheat"
"We didn't Da we're just gooooood!" the toddler turned to Scott with the soppiest puppy eyes, a trick she'd mastered by combing both Scott and Isaac's techniques.
Scott huffed and gave in, all those years of getting what he wanted through the use of the puppy eyes now coming to bite him in the ass.
"Dylan come back here with that!" Erica shouted after her eldest son as Boyd came charging after the 5 year old who dodged effortlessly and seamlessly through the crowded room with his lollypop prize held high above his head. He stopped to a halt suddenly, the momentum making him fall backwards onto his butt as a white wolf guarded the doorway to his getaway and Erica stood tall behind it. Patting the wolf on the head she passed him and said "Thanks Stiles" before retrieving the lollypop and her son, taking him by the hand back into the kitchen where her, Boyd and Alex were cooking dinner.
Stiles remained where he was for a moment watching his family. Scott, Isaac's and their 3 year old daughter playing board games on the floor and Jackson, Danny and Owen watching the baseball game on the TV occasionally passing comments and snide talk as they supported different teams. Lydia was curled up by the end of the other couch braiding Allison's hair as she sat showing their 4 year old daughter Victoria, named after Allison's mother, how to clean a 44. calibre pistol. Kiera, Malia, Cora and Peter sat discussing Cora's recent time spent in South America with the distant relatives of the Hales that she'd become quite close with over the years of her time spent there and Cory, Mason, Liam and Haydon sat with the play station set up in the gaming room across the hall. Stiles loved his pack but he loved the man who just walked in more.
Derek dumped the firewood next to the fire stove and threw some into the flames to keep it burning, it was mid January and it was cold outside for those who weren't walking radiators. Derek sat down after gesturing to the kitchen and informing John and Melissa that's where they could find Alex and put the food they had brought with the rest of it. Stiles trotted into the room and jumped up to sit beside Derek – more so on his lap as there wasn't enough room for two in the large armchair Derek favoured. Feeling calloused fingers scratching behind his ear Stiles began to hum making his chest vibrate on Derek's leg.
After the fight with the witch 6 years ago and when they all returned to human form after being trapped as puppies for a month Alex had informed Stiles once again to be careful when picking his second form as he'd only get to choose it once. To Stiles it had been a a logical choice, a wolf to run with his werewolf boyfriend and werewolf pack and it was still a predatory creature to help the pack if he ever needed to – his teeth and claws were pretty sharp. This people could understand and valued but it was his colouring that confused people. Being bright white in a forest meant that you could be seen very clearly in comparison to Derek with his black fur but to Stiles it was another obvious choice, white had been he colour of his fur when he was turned into a puppy and it was that whole ordeal that made him the witch he was today; he became a white wolf to honour that. One thing that hadn't changed through neither being a puppy or his wolf form was his shape-shifting rune. It was still placed in-between his eyes on his forehead even though, thank fully, in his human form it shifted to his upper collar bone. None of his many other runes and tattoos ever seemed to show in his other form for which he was thankful in a way, he like his white fur as it was.
"You're purring again" Derek whispered barely auditable above the other chatter throughout the room. Stiles nipped at his fingers, a declaration that he did not agree, and the vibrations stopped.
"Hey Stiles can I talk to you for a minute?" the Sheriff entered the room and stopped just inside the doorway allowing Melissa, Zack and Dylan to slide past him before raising his eyebrows at his son. Slowly Stiles slid off of Derek's lap and started towards the stairs. When he returned 5 minutes later he was in human form wearing a baggy oversized grey t shirt and a scruffy pair of jeans as he stepped over to the Sheriff.
"What's up pops?" he leant against the doorframe and folded his arms – a habit he'd picked up from his boyfriend – and grinned towards his father.
"Your Babica sent these over for you," his dad handed him a small black box about the size of a ring box "she expects you to be wearing them on your big day"
Taking the box in his palm he opened it to reveal a pair of silver cufflinks with a gold S engraved into them. His dad smiled at his sons amazed face "They were your dziadeks and his before him; it's your something old and a family tradition so she'll be upset if you don't wear them" his dad raised his eyebrows in a warning tone.
"And you don't upset your Babica" they said in chorus before embracing one another, John patting his son on the back and Stiles being careful not to damage the box or its precious contents.
"Thanks dad" Stiles said squeezing tight once more before letting go and shutting the box.
"Have you set the date yet or is it still as vague as ' the fall'" John asked making light conversation.
It carried on that way the rest of the evening, over dinner and for a number of hours after between the pack and eventually those with young children decided it was a good idea to head home closely followed by the others.
"We'll that was fun" Stiles sighed grabbing glasses as Derek shut the door after waving the last of the pack goodbye. Nodding Derek began stacking dishes and poured the leftover chips into the bin bag he carried before coming across the black box. Picking it up he opened it and pressed his thumb against the cold metal "Pretty aren't they?" Derek lifted his head to see Stiles watching him "They were my grandfather's apparently, my Babica sent them over for me to wear at the wedding"
"Your grandma gave you your granddads old cufflinks for your wedding?" Derek cocked an eyebrow before sinking into the plush leather couch behind him.
"No, my Babica sent me a family heirloom that has been warn by Stilinski men at their wedding for generations. It's like a sign of approval to be able to wear these you know – my uncle wasn't allowed to wear them at his second wedding because the family disapproved of his new wife and the way he'd treated his first." Stiles explained stretching himself out to lean against Derek's side as they looked at the cufflinks.
"We'll now they seem far too precious to be in my hands," Derek passed the box to his fiancé quickly who laughed at his abrupt need to have them out of his possession "Did your dad wear them?"
"Yeah" Stiles glanced to the fireplace where there was a picture of his mother and father along with a few others of his mom and Derek's family.
"Then you have to wear them, besides I have my families ring that I'll be wearing" Stiles turned his head away from admiring the cufflinks quickly to watch Derek instead at the mention of his family. Aside from those who were still alive Derek still found it difficult to talk about those he'd lost so Stiles cherished every moment he got when Derek spoke of them.
"Peter gave me it about 2 weeks ago, it was given to him by his father and his before him and so on. But Peter has no male children to pass it on to so he gave it to me."
They sat in silence for a while, content and relaxed until Derek sighed "Do you think we could leave clean up until tomorrow?"
Stiles stretched and didn't even think before embracing the idea, standing up and grabbing Derek by the hands before saying "I know we can" and pulling his fiancé to his feet.
Opening their bedroom door Stiles kicked of his jeans and threw his t shirt toward the laundry basket in the corner of the room Derek doing the same behind him only stopping to pick up the clothes that missed the basket and put them inside it along with his own. Shutting the blinds and sliding into their bed Derek could feel himself relaxing and melting into the mattress already. He turned to face the wall where he expected to find Stiles doing the same and to spoon him like he always did but he found the younger man watching him patiently.
Stiles smiled softly and took Derek's face in his hands "You know I love you right?"
"I love you too"
And then Stiles' forearm lit up a warm shade of pink, making him sit up like he'd been electrocuted.
"YES IT WORKED!" he turned to Derek and showed him the now back to normal tattoo, the new rune that he had gotten less than a week ago "Truth rune" Stiles smiled triumphantly.
Derek chocked for a second and then laughed. And laughed. And laughed.
"God I love you" he breathed as his laughter died down.
"Good" Stiles said reaching for the man's face again and angling his own till his lips were barely above Derek's "Because I love you too"
And with that they kissed to a pale pink light illuminating the room.
