(Death City "Gold Metal Gym")
"one pull up Crona get your butt up there!" Maka shouted from below. Crona arms shook from the strain, her face started glowing red, she kicked her legs. "its just one come on!" for a few moments Crona came close to achieving her gole. "aaaahhhh!" her eyes bounced around her eye sockets, her grip on the bars began to slip. "i s- sorry I c-" she fell to the ground below her. She lay there looking up at the gym sealing "that's it I'm worthless. I'm pitiful I cant even do one pull up. Just do us a favor and throw me away pleas." Maka smiled and sighed "come on get up." Crona complied and dusted herself off Maka and Crona's new years resolution was to get in better shape. Seeing as how Maka was in fine enough shape this gole was mainly for Crona's benefit, rather it was to become stronger. Wile her vitality and agility were impeccable the aria she lacked in was physical strength some days after lugging that big ass sword around it was hard for her to lift a spoon to her mouth let alone do a pull up. There daily exorcise involved Crona running wile carrying a cender block as Maka chased her with a dead mackerel rolled up news paper. Maka handed her a bottle of water "you got to stay hydrated, I don't want you passing out on me, that would break my heart." Crona popped her neck "oh yeah, thanks MOM." Maka whacked her on the top of the head with the newspaper. "i will motivate you Crona!" Maka said in a somewhat poised fashion. "so agreeing to do this in my own free time isn't motivated enough?" after a long day of being beaten with a smelly fish Crona started to feel a bit agitated, if she didn't know any better shed say she was starting to feel a tad angry . "okay. I guise the fish is a little to much." "i wholeheartedly agree with you." Maka's expression softened "okay I can see your upset. No more fish beatings." "you promise?" Maka nodded "i promise."
(the next day 5:00 am)
the sun crept up on the horizon as it just began to open its bloodshot eyes. On the tallest hill of the city Crona finally made her way to the top carrying a cinder block in her arms. Behind her Maka fallowed on a bike blowing a whistle at Crona to keep her pace. To Crona's relief it was all down hill from here. And only half a mile to the gym where a whole new chapter of her torment would beguine. They made it to the front door and Crona dropped the cinder block to the side cracking it down the middle. Maka handed her a bottle of water "you have five minutes to hydrate then its time for your upper body exorcise." Crona heaved without breath. This was Maka at her worst, she can be incredibly stubborn, when she gets in her head that she is going to help someone by god she will do it and there is nothing you can do about it even if she ends up pissing people off, she always expected one hundred and ten percent from herself and sometimes would project that expectation onto others, but to do this to Crona was a first. Maka ushered Crona into the gym "one pull up, just one, you can do it I know it." Crona looked up the bar suspended six feet. She didn't see any point In prolonging the inevitable, she crouched and jumped up to the bar and grabbed it with a firm grip. Maka climbed up side and perched herself on top of the frame of the pull up bar. "but today I arranged something. Lets call it extra motivation." she said waving to someone in the back of the room, Crona try'd to turn her head to see behind her. Kid and black star came from the back of the gym with a one of those small plastic kiddy pools you see in trashy neighborhoods, this one happened to be full to the brim with dead fish. They set it underneath Crona. " okay..is that all you needed?" black*star asked in a sleepy voice "yep, thanks guys, your checks in the mail."Maka smiled. Crona kicked her legs and moaned "wh- what are you guys d- doing!?" Maka looked rather pleased with herself "those fish have been rotting at the fish prosessing plant for a week, so last night we picked up a few hundred of them for free." Crona looked down into the cesspool of rotting marine life. "makaaaa! That's so unsanitary! I cant deal with that!" "well then do your best Crona and you wont end up smelling like dead fish for a for the rest of the month." As Crona looked up at Maka something in her brain snapped. She did this to improve herself not to be tormented. "th- this i-s s-tupid!" she snarled. Maka looked down in a sudden concern. Crona's face glowd bright red with a fire that burned in her gut. Her grip on the bar tightened and she sumond strength she scarcely knew she had. She began to pull herself upward. "that's it your doing it Crona, just a little bit higher." Maka cheered her on, but Crona didn't hear her, there was only a sound of war drums in her ear, a white hot flash of rage burning in her eye. And then suddenly she was there. She pulled herself all the way up and had begun to climb the frame of the pullup stand to where Maka sat. Crona reached out a hand to Maka, she didn't know what she would do with her hand once it found Maka but she would think of something. "that's it Crona you did it!" she shouted in excitement. Crona stopped suddenly snapping back to reality. She looked down, she smiled with the miniscule amount of pride she was able to muster "y- yeah I did.." then suddenly Crona lost her balance and before Maka could help she had fallen to a fishy demise. Maka grimaced as she watched her beloved fall into the tub of festering tuna below. She climbed down from the frame of the pull up bar. "uh..Crona.." Maka nealed down next to her. Crona eyes snapped open, black and shriveled with madness "run Maka." Maka pulled a small kipper off of Crona forehead. "why would I do that?" Crona sat up grabbing a blue fin tuna by the tail. Maka began to back away. "so uh...ill go get you a towel.." Crona lurched up like a woman possessed. "c'mear Maka. Don't be so coy!" she charged Maka clutching the decaying tuna. Maka turned on her heals and ran out the door of the gym. She ran down the street with Crona in pursuit. "come on Maka I just want to BASS you a question!". Maka turned down an ally way in an attempt to prolong the chase, how much energy could Crona have left anyway? She made a left turn but it was a dead end, she was now trapped. Crona closed in. "Crona, lets just calm down, I- I admit I was wrong, I should have pushed you that hard." Crona laughed at Maka as she stammered "oh- I don't think things are going to TUNA out to well for you.." she raised her fish into the air...
(seven minutes later.)
the two sat in an awkward silence on the curb side. "I- I'm..sorry..I'm rely embarrassed." Crona fidgeted. "no, no that's not right. I'm sorry I shouldn't have wound you up like that. I was out of line." "but I need you. I need you to push me, without you I wouldn't do anything. You just went overboard and well.." she paused, the eyeball of the fish was dangling from Maka's hair, Crona picked it out and flicked it into the storm drain at their feet. "I'm sorry I beat you with a fish." "I'm sorry I got fish involved in this whole thing to beguine with." Crona leaned over and hugged Maka "just promise not to go overboard anymore.." Maka patted Crona on the back "i pro-" she gagged "oh god Crona!" she sniffed "oh that..that smells terrible" "yeah you smell awful too." they stood up and began the walk home. "hay, whats for breakfast?" Crona asked with a smile on her face, "uh, i don't know.." Maka said wondering the same thing. "what about fish sticks?" there was a brief pause. "rely? Don't even joke about something like that."
