Chapter 26
She looks at the piece of paper in her hand. Hinata Uzumaki Squad Ten Seat Eight. She folds the paper back up and places it in a drawer along with her other belongings. The green suitcase lays empty on her bed. She has her own little room in the squad ten barracks. The bed is placed sideways and in the back, her small dresser is opposite the end of the bed. In front is a short table and a desk.
She closes the suitcase and places it beneath her bed. She moves the table against the wall to allow more room in the center. She does this to keep busy, she has half an hour before she must report to the tenth squad to receive her duties. She brushes her fingers over the blue fabric on her neck as she hears a knock on her door.
She pulls open the door and smiles softly. "I thought we could go report for duty together." He looks strangely nervous as he rubs the back of his neck.
"O-okay." He links his arm in hers and walks in a silly fashion. Hinata has difficulty hiding her laughter.
When they get to the large room they stand in line with the other new recruits. To the side next to the Captain, Rangiku holds a clipboard and starts reading off the lists of names. With each name she calls out she assigns a duty; sweeping up the barracks, standing patrol, etc...
Nobu gets patrol. Finally she comes to the last name.
"Hinata Uzumaki your with me."
"You are all dismissed" Hitsugaya says loudly and the crowd disperses.
Hinata stands still with her finger to her lips, a position she has taken so many other times when nervous. Rangiku steps toward Hinata and places her hand on her shoulder. Hinata bows her head, "L-lieutenant Matsumoto."
"Come on, we have a lot to do." Hitsugaya leaves the room as she says this.
Hinata follows Rangiku out the door.
Rangiku tells her she is showing her the ropes, but by the end of the day she can't help but suspect her lieutenant is using her to do her work. But she doesn't really mind, she likes the responsibility and she really is learning a lot.
It ended up being a lot of work for one day. "Hinata, we have had a long day, come drinking with me."
Hinata doesn't want to upset her superior so she agrees by nodding her head.
She sits between Rangiku and a redhead she doesn't know. Rangiku doesn't bother with introductions, she simply downs another shot.
Hinata sips her green tea half heartedly.
The redhead looks at her "Renji Abarai."
"H-hinata Uzu-uzumaki. Ni-nice to m-meet y-you." She kicks herself for all the stutters. Renji takes a drink of his sake.
"So Rangiku dragged you here too?"
"I didn't drag anyone anywhere. You were both free." She slurs the last sentence.
"I don't m-mind." Hinata smiles weakly at him.
"You're new aren't you?"
"Y-yes. I started t-today."
"Those are interesting eyes."
"Th-thank you."
"Do you have difficulty seeing?" He waves his hand over her face as he says this.
"N-no. It is a genetic tr-trait passed down in my c-clan. When I activate m-my Byakugan I have 360 de-degree view."
"Really? I've never heard of such a clan."
"I w-wouldn't expect y-you too. The soul soc-society is very d-different from the world I'm from."
"You mean this clan isn't from soul society but from the world of the living?"
"Y-yes, from th-the village hidden in the l-leaf."
"I've never heard of such a village." Renji scratches his head until he hears the soft sound of Rangiku snoring.
"I'll t-take her back t-to her room."
Disclaimer: Thanks for reading this far. I kinda want Nobu to end up with Hinata, their so cute, but don't worry I wont do that to you guys. But he's definitely not giving up without a fight.
