"I think I'm pregnant."

Sam looked up from the paper, surprise lining his face, as Darcy fidgeted before him.

"You think you're pregnant?" he asked, as she nodded.

"Do the smell thingy," she waved her hand at him. "I just feel pregnant. Something's different."

He nodded slowly, setting the paper down on the table, before standing up. Walking over to her, Sam placed his hands on her hips and moved his head close to her. Inhaling, Sam closed his eyes and took in her scent; both natural and manufactured, since she was fresh out the shower.

"You do smell…." He muttered, as he smelled her neck.

"But do I smell fertilized?" Darcy asked, as he knelt on the floor to smell her belly.

He nodded, "A little bit," he murmured, making her gasp. "Are you late?"

She shrugged, "My period is supposed to start either tomorrow or the day after," she said, as Sam looked up at her. "So if anything, it would be too early to really tell. But I've been getting some cramping and I was spotting last week…"

"We could get a test," he offered. "You could pee on it and maybe see what it says."

"Or should we wait another week or two?"

Sam shrugged, "Honestly?" he asked, as Darcy nodded for him to continue. "With everythin' that happened to Mason, I think we should take a test and call Aubrey. I don't want to wait until your thirteen weeks gone, to see her. This time, we go as early as possible."

Darcy nodded in agreement, as Sam stood up. "I'll go get a test," he said, kissing her forehead. "Why don't you get dressed? I left you pancakes on the counter and they should still be hot from the pan."

"Okay," Darcy said, sighing deeply. "Maybe I'm just crazy, Sammy. Maybe the symptoms of my impeding cycle are changing, now that I'm nearing thirty."

"Or maybe," Sam kissed her. "All that sex we've been havin' created somethin'."

She snorted, "Face it, we haven't been playin' it safe," he reminded her. "And Aubrey said a pregnancy can occur, even if you're on the pill."

"I just don't want to get my hopes up," Darcy said. "I know we said we'd try in October for another baby. "

"So it's August," Sam shrugged. "We'll have a spring baby and name 'em after a flower or somethin'."

Giggling, Darcy gave him a quick kiss, before heading back down the hall to their bedroom. "Can you pick up some potato chips? We can watch a movie tonight, since it's Sunday and the bar is closed!"

"Whatever you want!" Sam chuckled, grabbing his keys. "I'll be back in a bit!"

Yelling out for him to be safe, Sam made his way out of the house and down the pathway to the truck. Getting in, he placed the key in the ignition and paused. Letting out a deep sigh, Sam started up the truck and backed out of the driveway, turning out onto the street.

…..

Darcy and Sam looked at the four tests applicators on the counter, trying to understand what they all meant.

"So, one is positive," Sam said, pointing to the test. "But these three are negative."

"I don't get it," Darcy frowned, shaking her head. "You even said I smelled a little bit different. I never spotted before my period and, sure my breasts get tender before my period, but they feel different."

Sam nodded, "Do they feel the same way, when you were pregnant with Mason?" he asked.

She nodded, "But worse," she pouted, pulling at the shit. "Walkin' even makes them hurt, with all the bouncin' and what not."

"Call Aubrey," Sam said. "I think she needs to take a look in there and see what's goin' on."

"What if I am pregnant?" Darcy asked.

Sam wrapped his arm around her waist, "Then we'll be havin' a baby," he said, watching as she pondered. "Darcy, we're gonna have a baby. And we'll do everythin' the Aubrey says."

Darcy nodded, "And we're goin' to take it easy," he concluded. "It ain't gonna be like last time, cher. This time, we'll come home with lil' baby, who will turn us into two sleep deprived people"

"I'll call Aubrey tomorrow morning, first thing," Darcy sighed. "Hopefully she'll have something available this week."

"And I'll find someone to cover the bar, even if it's last minute," Sam promised. "I wanna be there with you."

She nodded, putting the tests into one of the boxes. "The sooner we find out, the better," she said, carrying the box into the bedroom. "I don't think I could wait more than a few days, Sam. I'm already feelin' anxious and I don't want to get my hopes up."

He watched as she placed the box into her purse, "So let's do somethin' today, just to keep your mind off it," he shrugged. "Wanna go look for flowers for your little garden?"

"Sure," Darcy nodded. "Maybe we can take Rhett with us? He's been cooped up in the house for a while…"

"That's because you don't let him run off anymore," Sam teased, as the collie walked past him. "He's been officially transformed into a house dog."

Darcy patted the mattress next to her, as Rhett jumped up. "That's because I don't want anything to happen to him," she said, giving the dog a kiss on the nose. "He's our oldest baby. I would be devastated if somethin' were to happen to him. Right buddy? You're Mommy's boy?"

Rhett barked, his tail thumping against the mattress. "You wanna come with us to look at flowers?" she asked him, as Sam watched her with a smile. "Maybe afterwards, we can go for a walk? How's that sound?"

"Well, finish gettin' ready and we'll head out," Sam said, turning away from the door. "I'll look for his leash."

"Come on, baby," Darcy cooed, as she stood up from the bed. "Let's get some pretty flowers!"

"You're definitely pregnant," Aubrey said, as she moved the probe to get a better look. "Roughly two to three weeks."

"Holy shit," Darcy gasped, as Sam squeezed her hand. "I knew it! See? I told you!"

Sam held his other hand up, chuckling. "I know you did," he said, as Aubrey tapped away at the keyboard. "I'm just surprised that you knew this early, before I could pick up the scent."

Aubrey turned the probe to get another shot of Darcy's uterus, "Each pregnancy is different," she offered. "Sometimes, a shifter can pick up the scent with out any problems. It's possible that this time around, the scent wasn't that strong yet…"

"Is that bad?" Darcy asked.

"Not at all," Aubrey shook her head. "You're really early into the pregnancy, so it's not uncommon."

Printing out a few photos, Aubrey eased the probe out of Darcy, before moving back from between her splayed thighs. "Now, usually I'd see you once a month between four to twenty-eight weeks," she started. "But I want to see you twice in September. After that, we'll follow proper protocol, up til thirty weeks."

"What's at thirty weeks?" Sam asked, as she wrote on Darcy's chart.

"Every two weeks, you'll come in and I'll weigh Darcy and do an ultrasound," Aubrey said, as Darcy pulled her feet out of the stirrups. "Then, between thirty-six to forty, she needs to be here once a week."

Darcy nodded, "Okay," she said. "This time, we do it right. No waiting until after twelve weeks to come in and see you."

The doctor nodded, "This is going to be a strict, regiment based, pregnancy," she warned. "I do not want you back in the OR again, unless it's to have a c-section."

"Should I work?" Darcy asked, looking between Aubrey and Sam. "I'm supposed to head back this Wednesday…"

"You can work," Darcy said. "But take it easy. If I have to order bed rest or an early maternity leave, it'll be because it's necessary for your health and your baby's health."

Sam kissed her cheek, "It'll be fine," he insisted. "You'll be workin' until the week before delivery. I know how you are, Darc. You're stubborn."

She gave him a small smile, "Hopefully it'll be at least a month or two before that," Aubrey said, picking up everything from the counter. "Get dressed and we'll go over everything you need for the remainder of your pregnancy."

Leaving them in the exam room, the couple were finally able to express their feelings to each other.

"I can't believe it," Darcy whispered, laying her hand against her still-flat tummy. "It's just a bit of cells right now, but it's a baby."

"Neither can I," Sam said, as Darcy swung her feet back and forth. "I'll be honest, Darc. I'm a bit nervous this time around."

Darcy nodded, "Me too," she said, taking his hand into hers. "But I feel like this time, it's gonna happen. That it'll end with us, taking home a baby."

He kissed her softly, "Me too," he agreed. "We should wait a bit longer, before tellin' the others. Maybe once you start showin'."

"Sookie will know," Darcy said, climbing down from the exam table. "There's no way we'll be able to keep that out of our heads."

"Then we'll bribe her to stay quiet about it," Sam said, as Darcy slipped her underwear back on.

She giggled, tugging her shorts back up to her hips, before turning around to kiss him again. "How about we just get our paperwork and some food?" she suggested. "There's still a pile of laundry at home, that has your name on it."
