Chapter 26:
Blaine's voice was hoarse from screaming as he walked into the bedroom hastily, slamming the door behind him. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he heard Kurt rush after him, stopping at the closed door and slowly opening it. Blaine held his head high though he was crying, his back to the door and his arms crossed protectively as if it was covering his heart from being hurt even more than it was.
"I don't want to talk to you." he choked out as best as he could. The sound of Kurt's sigh echoed in the bedroom as he took slow steps towards Blaine, hesitantly placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Blaine..." He mumbled, both hands rubbing his shoulders slowly as Blaine made little effort to brush them off, instead just tightening in on himself. "Do you still love me?"
Blaine's mouth opened and closed, his eyes tightening closed as more tears slipped out. If he said it, it'd be over quick. It would be a simple lie. But it wouldn't be that simple. And Blaine, deep inside, didn't want it to be over. Blaine nodded his head slowly, letting out a whimper as he turned and let Kurt embrace him.
Kurt held Blaine as he cried out an apology, his hands fisting on Kurt's shirt. "I wish you would stop fighting with me." Kurt mumbled, running his hand through Blaine's hair.
Blaine looked up from where his head was buried in Kurt's neck, his entire face wet from tears as he lip trembled and eyebrows furrowed. "But I - I didn't-"
"Shhh," Kurt commanded, holding a Blaine tighter, and Blaine did just that, sniffling as he put his head back on Kurt's shoulder, allowing himself to be comforted by his boyfriend.
Kurt sauntered into the theater, smiling as he watched his boyfriend perform on stage. He waited patiently, holding a bag of Chinese food and a fresh cup of coffee in his hand as watched proudly as Blaine sung his solo. After a recent fight with Blaine the night before, Kurt decided to visit during his lunch break, assuring that his love was indeed just that. Kurt had been accused of lying, telling Blaine that he was at Rachel's when really he wasn't. Kurt said things he wasn't proud of. He knew it would've stung Blaine in ways that'd make him break.
After the make up, Blaine instantly took the blame, saying sorry first. Blaine always said sorry first. He hated that he was fighting. He hated that he caused so many fights in the first place.
Blaine finished his song strong, his emotions steady on his face as slowly held his head down, backing away slowly.
A director called cut, conversing with the other actors on a stage as Blaine looked back up, the emotion draining as he huffed, listening and waiting to be spoken to directly and be critiqued. His eyes wandered, slowly moving until the landed on Kurt in the back, a wide smile etching on his face.
He interrupted his director, asking for a lunch break as she nodded before continuing her conversation. Blaine quickly hopped down the stage, meeting Kurt halfway down the aisle, giving him a kiss on the lips with an excited 'Hi'.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, as Kurt held up the bag and coffee.
"I wanted to bring you lunch, beautiful." Kurt said, as Blaine grinned, ducking his head a bit at the compliment.
"Kurt, you didn't have to do that." He said softly, taking the stuff out of Kurt's hands. "Thank you, you're sweet." Kurt nodded happily, as Blaine took a sip of the coffee, letting out a light hum before leaning in to kiss Kurt.
A light beeping sound started randomly as Blaine jumped slightly at the sound. The lid of his coffee popped off, a splash of the medium drip landing on Kurt's shirt as he gasped at the hot liquid, quickly moving the shirt from being stuck to his chest. "Blaine!" He shouted, wiping off his shirt quickly, looking up, angered by the burn and the stain. The group behind them looked over, their attention caught from Kurt raising his voice as Blaine looked at him, his eyes widening.
"I- oh god, I'm so sorry, Kurt. I didn't mean it, I have clothes in the back if you want to change-"
"It's fine, I have another shirt." Kurt grumbled, turning to walk away as Blaine quickly sat his stuff down, racing after him to stop him from leaving.
"Kurt wait," Blaine whined, grabbing his arm and making him turn around as he looked at him with worried and pleading eyes. "Please don't be angry, I'm sorry. It's just a shirt, I'll buy you a new one, I promise-"
"Blaine, I need to go back to work." Kurt said slowly, his jaw clenched as he started to move away again before Blaine stopped him again.
"Kurt..." He whimpered softly, his eyes looking down as he took Kurt's hands into his own, giving them a squeeze. "I'm sorry. I love you." He sighed, his head bowing as if he was a puppy in trouble from tearing up something it shouldn't have. "I don't want to fight, I'm so sorry, please don't leave-"
Kurt quickly hushed him, a hand lifting Blaine's chin as Blaine looked at him, fighting back tears from the constant worry that Kurt was about to walk out on him. Kurt pressed a gentle, lingering kiss on Blaine's lips that Blaine returned with a sniffle and a sigh. Kurt pulled away slowly, Blaine's eyes slowly fluttering open. "I love you too."
Blaine nodded with a small smile as Kurt squeezed their hands together once again. "When's opening night?" Kurt asked bluntly, changing the subject to a more lighter tone and ignoring the sticky warm stain on his shirt to spare Blaine's feelings.
Because that's what they did. They fought and they moved on. They didn't like to linger on the problem. They had a relationship built off of forgive and forget.
"August 14." Blaine spoke. "You'll be there, right?"
"Of course." Kurt assured, pressing another kiss to Blaine, his eyes falling shut happily. When he pulled away a few seconds later, Blaine was happier, back to his normal self. "I really do need to leave Blaine." Kurt said softly, as Blaine nodded, his disappointment masked by a smile.
"I understand. Thank you for coming." Blaine smiled, as Kurt started to pull his hands from Blaine's.
"It was no problem. I just wanted to see you. We'll talk later tonight okay?" Kurt asked, taking slow steps backwards as Blaine nodded once more, watching him leave.
Blaine shifted uncomfortably in the kitchen as Kurt hummed, cooking up something. Blaine had cleared his throat about a hundred times, wanting to talk but scared to. He didn't want to say the wrong thing or upset his boyfriend. Kurt waited patiently for Blaine to talk like he said he was going to when Blaine first walked into the kitchen. He continued to cook their meal as Blaine tried to gather his words.
"Kurt, I..."
Blaine started then stopped once again, furrowing his eyebrows and looking down in frustration. Kurt turned the stove off, moving the pan over as he went to work on something else. "Blaine?" Kurt said slowly, as Blaine looked up at him, Kurt's back to Blaine. "I can't wait forever."
"I - I know, I'm sorry, I'm trying-"
"Stop apologizing." Kurt said softly, as Blaine closed his mouth instantly, stopping his sentence to start a new one.
"Okay, I'm sor- I mean.. Okay."
Kurt sat down the bowl and whisk in his hand, sighing as he turned to face Blaine, leaning against the counter. "What is it honey? You're never like this. Is it something bad?" Kurt asked, worrying as Blaine looked down once more.
He squeezed his eyes closed as he let it all out at once, words spurting out one after the other. "I miss you. I miss you everyday. Every single second and I know you're trying your best like you say you are, but I just don't feel connected to you anymore. You barely sleep in the same bed as me anymore, and you haven't touched me in more than a week and I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong and I just need to know what I did. I understand that you're busy, but sometimes I just wanna hear your voice. Sometimes I just wanna call or text you, and I want you to come home and tell me about your day, and I want to kiss and cuddle you and I just... I might just be looking into things because I don't think I did anything wrong, but if I did, just say it because I miss you so much. Just tell me. Please."
Blaine huffed when he finished, opening his eyes as he slowly looked up at shocked Kurt. Kurt looked down for a moment, processing everything that had been said as Blaine bit his lip, waiting for a reaction.
"Blaine..." Kurt started, looking up sadly. "I had no idea I was doing that to you. I'm so sorry, I'm glad you told me. I never meant to make you feel that way. You did nothing wrong, I promise."
Kurt walked towards Blaine, holding out his hand for Blaine to take. Blaine slipped his hand into Kurt's, walking closer to Kurt and allowing Kurt to kiss his hand softly. "I just- I got worried because you're always upset with me now or I'm upset with you, and I just... I really hate fighting with you. I really do."
"I do too. I'm sorry Blaine, I promise, I'll make it up to you okay?" Kurt assured, pulling Blaine close to him for a hug. "Okay." Blaine said softly, smiling as he hugged Kurt back. Kurt rested his chin on Blaine's shoulder, holding him tightly.
"God, Im so horrible to you." He mumbled as Blaine squeezed him.
"Hey, don't say that. You're amazing to me. I wouldn't still be here if you weren't." Blaine quickly spoke as Kurt let out a shaky breath, shaking his head.
He opened his mouth to speak, but the sound of Kurt's pager interrupted, making them pull away. Kurt checked it, silencing the pager as Blaine frowned down at the small piece of technology. "How long will you be gone?" Blaine asked sadly.
"I don't know."
Blaine looked up at Kurt, his hazel eyes showing something inside him crumbling. "I don't want you to leave."
Kurt looked down, taking a sharp gasp as he blinked rapidly. "Still think I'm amazing?" He asked, looking back up. His eyebrow arched as if he was proving his point and slid past Blaine, throwing on a jacket and heading out. Blaine stood silent, feeling like the walls were caving in. He felt trapped.
