26. Question

"Do you believe in happy endings?"

Metallic, silver eyes flickered over to the brunette plopped up next to him as the two sat upon the fresh cut grass. The wind blew around the two in a gentle manner, the sun kissed their skin, and little Pokémon roamed through the grass and bushes nearby. A gloved hand stopped petting Weavile's head, who whined a bit in protest. "What?" he asked, a bit unsure of what to respond. What kind of a question was that anyway?

Her small hands toyed around with a small dandelion, moving it back and forth from her left hand, and then to her right. "Happy endings," she repeated in a soft voice.

The boy relaxed at her soothing voice, continuing to pet the ice type resting upon his lap. Silver felt like he could hear the brunette go on for days and days, rambling on about everything and things that were insignificant, and still be able to find some sort of peace. She was the peace he ever needed, anyways...

"Do you believe in them?" Lyra asked, crossing her legs together. Her hazels looked down at the plant in her hands, then giggled a bit.

Silver shrugged in response, not sure of what to say. "I dunno. What exactly is a happy ending?"

"Well..." the brunette's giggling died down as she thumbed the yellow petals with her soft touch. She then picked out one of the small petals, raising it up to her eye level. Her hazel eyes focused on the dandelion's petal. "Have you ever read a story, and then it ends with 'And they lived happily, ever after'?" Lyra asked slowly. Before Silver would respond, she continued. "Happy endings, where in the end, someone is happy with the result of something."

"..." The redhead's gaze went from Lyra, up to the blue, almost cloudless sky. A gentle sigh wheezed through his lips, eyebrows furrowing together. "Well..."

She placed the dandelion on her lap, also gazing up ahead into the sky. "I know that you have suffered in the past," she began to spill out quietly. In her mind, she assumed that Silver was going to hesitate due to all of his horrid past, and she wanted to make sure that he didn't dwell on the past anymore. "But... you need to stop dwelling what has alre—"

"No."

Silver had cut her off abruptly, making her freeze in place. Lyra looked down, biting her lower lip. Great, she probably pissed him off by mentioning things that hurt him—

"I don't believe in happy endings. I doubt that this here is a happy ending."

Her hazels widened in shock at his blunt reply. Her head quickly snapped up to look at him, meeting his calm, silver irises. "What?" she asked, exasperated. Wait, he didn't... feel happy with her...?

Her thoughts cut off again once his gloved hand rose up to trace her soft cheek with ease. Her body sulked immensely at his touch—one of her new found weaknesses. Despite her shock, she leaned into him slightly, letting out a weak purr. She definitely knew for a fact that she absolutely loved his touch—and craved it so. "Stupid girl," he spat, scoffing as he pulled her closer. "Happy endings usually happen when a story is finished. We are not finished yet..." he muttered the last part a bit quieter, cheeks flaring red. "Not even close."

A wide smile curved her pink lips as he went back to petting Weavile on the head. She was not expecting that answer. It made her go into a state of bliss. "Yayy..."

"So stop asking pathetic questions, will ya?"
