Chapter 27

Frosty Breaths

Takumi headed downstairs with the tray of items and as he deposited them on the counter. He turned around and saw Okinako pacing up and down the living room. Okinako spun around and caught sight of Takumi who was standing in the doorway of the kitchen. She smiled and approached him.

"Takumi, can you do me a favor? I have some errands to do and they are quite urgent. I'm so sorry to trouble you, but could you stick around and look after Misaki while I am away? She's not really in her tip-top condition when she's ill..." Okinako said nervously as she looked at Takumi straight in the eye. Takumi was fully aware of what happens when Misaki falls sick, she turns into a whiny and clingy child doing things to people that she said in her somber state that she will never do in her life.

Takumi smiled at Okinako pleasantly and he nodded his head before reassuring Okinako that everything was going to be fine and that Misaki was in good hands. Takumi headed back into Misaki's room to find Misaki leaning on the ledge of her bedroom window. Takumi approached her and stood beside her.

"Misaki? Aren't you cold?" Takumi asked. Misaki shook her head as she leaned her head onto Takumis shoulder.

"Hmm...Your warm Takumi..and you smell nice." Misaki said with a delirious smile. Takumi raised an eyebrow and touched her forehead gently. His eyes widened as he looked at Misaki before sighing, he shut the window and gently picked Misaki up. Misaki didn't protest but instead started giggling like a kid, Takumi mused to himself as he tucked Misaki back into her bed.

"Hey, Takumi? Can I have a kiss?" Misaki asked as she giggled some more. Takumi raised an eyebrow.

"Eh...Misaki are you feeling all right?" He asked as Misaki pouted.

"Aww, it's just a kiss...You meanie." Misaki pouted childishly as she crossed her arms in annoyance. Takumi struggled to maintain is composure as he tried to stifle his laughter. He headed towards her bedside and planted a kiss on her forehead. Misaki smiled happily, and Takumi chuckled to himself. She was really different when she fell sick or was under the influence of medication. She looked at Takumi with a dazed expression.

"I really hope you get well soon Misaki." Takumi muttered as he pushed away her stray strands of blonde hair. Misaki sneezed as she looked at Takumi with a slightly more focused gaze after she shook her head. She looked at him apprehensively and was about to say something before closing her mouth again.

"Yeah Misa?" Takumi said as he sat beside her on her bed.

"No...Nothing."Misaki said while trying to hide her evident blush.

"Was Misa-Chan thinking of dirty thoughts?" Takumi teased lightly. Misaki shook her head furiously as she glared at Takumi who was on the verge of bursting out in laughter.

"Idiot...I'm not a pervert like you. Stop bullying me while I'm sick. You mean butt." Misaki muttered as she fell asleep. Takumi smiled to himself as he sat beside her gently running his fingers through her hair. As he remembered the last Winter that he had spent alone.

Flashback

Takumi sat by the window his fingers tracing the window panes as the pelts of snow fell. He smiled a sorrowful smile, he was all alone in the gigantic manor with no one else for company. His parents had left for a business trip to London. The only one who genuinely cared whether he was lonely or not was absolutely no where to be found. The strong wind howled and the curtains around the windows blew. Even if he tried, the old man was still alive and the contract simply couldn't be breached. His parents pitied the boy but they were as helpless as he was. Takumi often thought of murdering the old man in his sleep but he didn't was to become a cold-blooded murderer and besides the old geezer was his own grandfather as heartless as he was, Takumi didn't have the heart to do so. He felt his eyes starting to burn as he bit his cheek to stop the tears from flowing. His heart was aching and he thought that it was better to be left alone at the darker part of the world instead of having to go through all this pain just to remain on the bright side of it. When Misaki entered his pathetic life, her light shined all around him brightening up his world. His parents had found each other and they never fully understood his pain, where everyone that he meets are only using him for his financial status. The 'friends' that he had were always asking things from him and Takumi obliged to their requests as it was expected from him. He was all alone in this methodical world, from young he was trained to view people's expressions and body language. When he stepped out of the business industry to head to Japan, the people around him was as nervous as hell and that infuriated him. He decided to keep his wealth a secret to take pleasure in being a commoner. He enjoyed the reactions of the people he met, so real and carefree unlike the artificial and duplicitous kinds he sees at business meetings, charitable organizations or parties. When he met her, her life was turned upside down. She was so different from all the girls that fell head over heels with him, only caring about how he looked and not who he was on in the inside. She was the only one who found him irritating but yet she was the only one who bared her heart to him to tell him her story.

She was the one who often needed saving and he was her knight in shining armor, but in reality he was the one who needed saving more than she did. He went out of his way to help her but yet she noticed the small things that he did for her. He fell so hard for her and it took her quite a long time to reciprocate that feeling but at first he decided that he could wait...Wait long enough till that feeling settled into her heart. Takumi's patience wore thin and he decided to make that feel that feeling. On certain days, he would regret that decision. If he didn't do it, he wouldn't be breaking his heart every single day. He wouldn't feel miserable knowing that she's obviously upset on his disappearance. Maybe he should have kept his darkness to himself... Instead of trying to join the brighter side and in the end darkening that brighter side...

Takumi probably spent hours sitting there thinking and when he snapped out of his thoughts, he felt Misaki stirring and he smiled. She peeked open an eye and when she saw that she was in her room she groaned. Takumi was slightly confused and he asked.

"Whats wrong? Can't stand my presence?"

"N...no. I thought that was just a dream...Did I really ask you for a kiss?" She asked shyly as she pulled her covers halfway up her face. Takumi laughed heartily and gave her his account of the whole thing. As Takumi told his side of things, Misaki blushed crimson red and her eyes widened. Takumi looked at her and felt love swelling from the bottom of his heart.

"Should I kiss you again Misaki?" Takumi asked innocently. Misaki's blush deepened as she chucked a pillow at Takumi, which he easily avoided.

'Y..you...Forget it." Misaki stuttered. Takumi grinned as he sat beside her.

"Looks like your feeling better. Feel like watching a movie?" He asked. Misaki smiled and nodded her head as she got out of bed. Takumi led her by the hand to the home theater. They both settled onto the couch and they both bantered on the genre of the movie to watch.

"No horror movies Misaki. Anything but horror movies you know that you can't handle them." Takumi said as gently as possible. Misaki glared at him before retorting back.

"Come on! I can handle it! Sakura said it wasn't that scary! "

"Okay fine, don't blame me if you end up getting nightmares." Takumi said with a sigh. Misaki was so stubborn and she hardly changed her mind.

"Shut Up!" Misaki said angrily as she chucked another pillow at Takumi. Takumi caught the pillow and placed it on his lap before casting a worried glance at Misaki who was inserting the disk into the player.

In the beginning they both were seated on the two ends of the couch as Misaki was adamant about spreading her germs to him and as every appearance of a paranormal creature appeared, Misaki screamed and move a distance closer to Takumi. She didn't even notice that she was moving closer to him but Takumi clearly noticed it and he winced as he saw another person being brutally murdered by a girl in a red dress on screen. He felt the seat beside him sink down and he turned his head to see Misaki who was pale in the face and her knuckles white as she gripped onto the sofa seat with her dear life.

The screen turned black and Misaki's face had a look of relief but Takumi knew better, this was clearly near the end but no horror movie ended without a jump-scare. The screen had a flicker of light and in the next second the antagonist, the girl in a red dress threw a knife at the screen. Misaki's scream sent shivers down Takumi's spine and the next thing he knew, Misaki was clutching on to him with dear life. Her entire body was shaking and Takumi felt his sleeve turn wet, he gently rubbed her back soothingly.

"I...s it done?' Misaki said in between sniffles. Takumi caught sight of the credits and he replied her with a yes. Misaki took a peak at the black screen and sighed as she wiped the tears on her face away. As Misaki got her bearings together, Takumi wordlessly stared at the cover of the casing.

"Your lucky Sakura didn't give you the sequel to this it looks even scarier than this one." Takumi said nonchalantly. Misaki looked up wit fear evident in her eyes.

"W...what?! There's a sequel?!" She screeched.

"Calm down Misa, we're not going to watch it...Relax." Takumi said as he kept the CD.

"Crap, I made a bet with Sakura that I could watch the entire production and when she said all three I didn't hear her clearly but I assumed that she meant all three hours of it." Misaki said with chattering teeth.

"Okay, I promise I'll watch the other two with you so you won't be alone. Calm down okay? Your starting to hyperventilate." Takumi said worriedly. Misaki sat down as she took in deep breaths. It was the worse idea that she ever had came up with to bet wit Sakura on a horror movie.

"Thanks Takumi..." She said as she leaned onto Takumi's shoulder. She felt so blessed to have him as a boyfriend, he listened to her and helped her when she needed help and gave in to her every whim. He understood her better than herself and he was always there. She could be herself whenever she was near him and her heart will always belong to him and him alone. He could make her smile from wherever he was, she was willing to spend her forever with him. She was willing to be his and his alone. She can do everything with him, he will always love her and she will always love him.

She was in love with Takumi Usui Walker and she will not lose him
