No, he is well and truly stuck here relying on the green, terrified egghead because Eliot doesn't have the skills to deal with the threat himself. It's been a long time since he's been in that predicament and longer since there's been anyone he'd close enough to get him there. Flyin' solo, there wasn't much he couldn't deal with, less he couldn't get away from instead, and no one left to mourn or worse. If he wasn't good enough, the only one suffering the consequences of that lack was him.
This was exactly why he worked alone.
