Chapter- The Island
The Island was a broken region filled with jagged cliffs made out of blue stones. It was covered in dead grass and huge wild flowers that I hadn't even begun to identify. It had a water fall to the north and a river that fed into it from the talk peak. The Island was also roughly the size of Madagascar, which will make tracking anything down very hard to do.
My first two choices were McBeth and Dark. Both could fly, fight and in a pinch I could always abandon Dark and teleport to the In-Between with McBeth for safety. I let McBeth know that, after all she's never like him either, but Dark would be... Dare I make this pun? Eh, why not... Kept in the dark.
We landed and activated our camouflage for our clothes- and in Mcbeth's and I's cases our fur. Then we followed the game plan.
"We go in with myself at point, cause I've got the best nose," I told them as we flew,"You two follow in a Triangle formation. You keep your ears and eyes peeled. We'll have a lot of ground to cover and not a lot of time."
We all trotted into the forest, weapons raised and at the ready. Even if we could change forms, these war-ready ones had a lot of uses. We were also going in without and coms, but if necessary I could use a mind link. My padded feet glided over the jungle-like forest floor with ease.
"From what my father told me, we've got to head to the centre of the island. That's where the entrance to what we'll need will be."
We hadn't gotten very far when there was a disturbance in the trees. I froze and motioned for the other two to stop. They did and I motioned for us to stand back-to-back in a triangle formation.
The rustling grew as it approached us, we all tensed. Our senses on red alert as we kept looking side to side to see which direction the attack would come from. I also prepared to leave Dark's butt behind when... My Father stepped into our line of sight.
My father smirked as he activated his camouflage,"Like I would let you come alone."
I growled,"Fall in, new plan, Dark you take the last point in diamond position. McBeth left, Dad, right. Let's move."
The trip through enemy infested territory was a quiet one, and while I'd love to tear my dad a new one for following and compromising the mission over mind link. I didn't.
It didn't take us as long to reach the centre of the island with our new speeds. At the base of the mountain, my father held us up by catching up to me and tapping my shoulder. I nodded and we pulled to a stop in some deep underbrush cover, We should split up. My father suggested, This place is going to be crawling with the enemy. We need to get in, see what's going on and get out.
McBeth's ears flopped, Great, more recon. Sooo exciting.
I snorted at her,Hold the sass please. But yeah, sure whatever. I guess that'll be fine. I thought quietly to myself- cause apparently I can't make my own decisions.
I'll take Dark Dad said,You and McBeth should circle around in the air and head down. We'll head up. Once one groups find the cave we'll tell the other group, then regroup and go from there, go?
Good the rest of us agreed with a nod.
McBeth and I were able to fly up and over with no problem. We worked our way as quietly and carefully as we could. We couldn't fly cause we'd miss something. The climb had its ups and downs. The loose rock could give us away, but a downhill fight was easier in most cases. I certainly didn't like fighting up hill.
McBeth lost her concentration on one ledge and slipped. I shot forward and grabbed her arm. Saving her from a rather uncomfortable and very fatal fall down the whole peak side.
I growled deep in my throat and fought to pull her back up. When McBeth finally recovered from the shock of the almost-fatal-fall she used her claws and soon we were huffing and puffing on the ledge.
That's when the distress call came, Uaghh It was my father, I sat up quickly, Ambush, Dark... Traitor... Halfway down... Too many
On our way I cried and ran right off the cliff ledge snapping my wings out, McBeth following suit.
As fast as my wings could carry me, I went back over to the other side. I saw my father, fighting with all his might against the Cat's. I spotted Zira, punching him across the face. Dark stood at the edge of the fighters, about ten in all, pushing his way to get to the main fight. Zira had my father backed up near the ledge.
I shot down, snapping my wings out just at the last second so my powerful werelegs could barely brace the fall. I slashed at Zira's face with a snarl and she recoiled, obviously not expecting me.
"Uncle," McBeth cried and reached out for my father. He grabbed her hand and she easily swung him up higher on the mountain. I jumped, twisted in mid-air and dug my claws into the stone and started for the ledge that McBeth and my father sat on, waiting for me. This way we could all get out together minus one. Zira snarled and started to climb up the steep mountain side for me, but a male lion broke through and started to climb after me shouting,"Don't worry Mom! I got her!"
I kicked down shake and he helped as it got in his eyes. But the male just wiped it out of his eyes and kept going. I looked back up and let out a growl while I climbed a bit faster. There was a small area that one could stand on and then climb up to the ledge that my family was sitting on. I focused on getting to that. The male grabbed my back foot with his claws and I let out a bowl of pain, before I kicked him off and sprang to the area right before the cliff ledge. I rolled onto it and turned just as the male leapt after me.
I stood to meet him and got in a good solid slash against his face and part of his throat. The male lost his balance and started to fall. I turned and climbed up with my family. We immediately flew for home.
*************No POV
The Male that attacked Maya was named, Nuka. This is the fullblooded brother of Dark, or Kovu as his pride had long called him.
Nuka fell from that small even grounded ledge, and rolled down most of the mountain face before he came to rest at the feet of his Mother, and Brother. He looked to his mother and with his final breath said,"I'm sorry Mom... I tried."
Zira, overcome with grief held his body in her arms. She cried for only a few short minutes before she turned to Dark,"What have you done."
Dark flabbergasted, looked around,"But... I-I... I didn't do..." His expression hardened as he glared at his mother,"I didn't do anything!"
Zira snarled,"That's right! You knew that those two brats had come with you and you didn't mention them!"
Dark squared his shoulders,"I had no idea how they knew to come. We had no means of communication."
Zira snarled again,"And for your ignorance your brother is dead!"
"I didn't kill him!"
"No, you just chose not to take your chance to kill the bitch who did!"
Zira reached out and slammed her clawed paw against her only remaining son's face. It left a jagged scratch aromas his right eye. Four lightning marks that started and ended just one inch before and after his eye and they tracked diagonally. Zira smiled as she saw her old mate in his face. Dark held his face in one paw.
An evil thought came into Zira's head. Oh, she's make Kovu pay for his insolence and then he'd see where his loyalties really lie,"Leave us. Return to your precious flea-bitten mongrels. See how they'll treat you now."
Zira turned her back on her son, so he would see her smile as she heard his wings disappear into the night.
please review and thank you for reading! Sorry about all the POV changes but I had to.
