Chapter 26: Came To See You

The sky was glowing a burning orange from the setting sun. Birds were returning to their nests, rabbits retreating underground and all the animals getting ready for another night's sleep. Meanwhile, a grey wolf burst through bushes, ducked under branches and jumped over logs, not slowing down for anything, his new found stamina and muscles giving him the energy to continue his journey.

The young wolf skidded to a halt to look at the sky. Just a few more hours of this and I should be in Jasper Humphrey thought. He had been running for a full day, but with only four breaks, but still, it was incredible for a wolf to run that distance. Even Humphrey was amazed at the distance he ran. "These Guardian skills are coming in pretty useful" he said to himself. He decided to wait for a few minutes to catch his breath and be on his way.

He had a certain time to see Kate. He figured he could only be there for at least five or ten minutes because he had to be on his way back to Winston to continue his training. He knew he was lucky to get to leave to see Kate on her birthday, but was disappointed that he couldn't see her for long.

"OW!" he yelled as something hit him in the head, interrupting him from his thoughts. He looked down to his right to see what it was and saw a round stone, sort of like… "Monsieur Humphrey!" he heard a thick French accent say and looked up to see a Canadian goose with a yellow duck landing next to him.

"Marcel, Paddy!" Humphrey said, walking up to them to hug them. "Looks like you've been working out Humphrey" Paddy said, noticing Humphrey's built body. "I'm sure Kate would love to see you" Marcel said, subtly mentioning on how Kate would love to see her new hot mate.

"And I would love to see her too, in fact I'm on my way to see her" Humphrey replied, also wondering on how Kate's reaction will be in how he has built his muscle in three weeks. A lot of things ran through his mind. First off, when he officially comes back in a month, he and Kate will definitely be the hot couple in the pack, but when he does come back, he had big plans for her. A night alone, in their den, a new and improved Humphrey with the same hot Kate would call for a night of fireworks.

"Humphrey snap out of it" Marcel said, shaking his friend out of his thoughts. "Oh yeah, sorry" Humphrey said as he closed and opened his eyes to clear himself. Marcel and Paddy just shot sly smiles towards each other because they could easily tell what Humphrey was thinking about.

"Don't worry sir, I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to catch up with Miss Kate when you come back" Paddy said, and the two chucking seeing Humphrey's face go red. "Anyway guys, how long is it to Jasper?" Humphrey asked, trying to change to another topic from the one where he imagined himself mating with Kate again.

"It's about a six hours walk, but 3 if you run" Marcel replied. "Alright thanks guys, I need to see her soon" Humphrey said and started his marathon run again, running the final leg of it anyway. "Those two just crack me up" Marcel said as he watched Humphrey bolt towards Jasper. "You and me both sir" Paddy responded, laughing to himself.

Jasper: Three Hours Later

Kate was on night patrol. Yes, even though it was her birthday, she had enjoyed the party and seeing all her friends again, but like any other alpha she had duties and was the only one doing the patrol this night, which she didn't mind at all.

The party her friends and family threw for her was amazing. All the caribou you could eat, talking and laughing with friends and family. Even Humphrey's friends were also at the party, and were sort of the life of it, because of all of their goofing around and jokes. Kate giggled to herself when she remembered the meat fight that Brady, Austin, Shakey, Salty and Mooch had. That was one of the highlights of the night.

They even played a bit of truth or dare. Shakey dared Salty to ask out Sweets, his longtime crush, and remarkably she said yes. Brady dared Austin to make-out with Luna with which he happily did. It was a fun night overall.

Kate was suddenly snapped out of her thoughts when she heard a twig snap and some rustling coming up in front of her. She got into a crouching position and slowly walked closer to the area where the noise was coming from, careful not to make a sound.

She saw a dark figure come out of the bushes, but couldn't tell who it was because there was no moonlight shining through the trees. She was about to pounce when a sudden breeze blew past her. She smiled and pounced the mysterious wolf. The two wolves rolled into a clearing where the moonlight showed brightly.

"Hey beautiful" the wolf said and all she did was smile at him. "You're late" was all she replied with a semi fake disappointed smile. "I'm here aren't I?" the male wolf asked, moving his paws so that were now holding her hips down. "Yes you are" Kate said as she locked lips with the wolf. It felt so good to feel him again, his lips, his rough, untamed fur, his beautiful ice blue eyes. She missed him so much.

She looked so beautiful, even more than he remembered. Her golden fur shined in the moonlight once again, her beautiful golden brown eyes melted his insides and her soft fur…he missed her so much.

Humphrey broke the kiss and attacked her neck with long, slow licks, kisses and nibbling, earning plenty of moans from his mate above him. "I can't believe you're here" she said as he continued his attack of licks. "There was no way in hell I would miss your birthday" he said, connecting lips with her once more.

After five minutes of intense lip-locking they had to break apart for air. Kate got up off her mate to get a good look at him, and almost started drooling. He had built up a lot of muscle all over his body, his legs, back, shoulders, chest and abdomen. But her dream was interrupted when Humphrey started speaking.

"I would love to stay for longer Kate, but I have to go" Humphrey said, with clear disappointment in his voice. "What, but you just got here" Kate said, completely caught off-guard that her mate had to leave now. "Your father let me to come to see you Kate, and he said have to be there by day-after tomorrow. I ran for one day, and I have to do the same again. I'm sorry but I came to see you, because I just had to. But don't worry, I'll be back in a month" Humphrey said as he came up to her, noses almost touching.

She hated that he had to train. Two months of being away was too much for her to bare. But she knew Humphrey wanted to learn about his roots and embrace his true self, know what he's capable of and he wanted to do this to a better mate. She couldn't have asked for a better one, but he felt that she needed a strong wolf, someone who could protect and hunt for her when she can't. He wanted to be a strong mate and that's what he was determined to do.

"Ok Humphrey, I'll see you soon" she said as she nuzzled his neck with hers and he returned the same. But as she withdrew she whispered in his ear, "When you come back, I'll have a huge surprise waiting for you". She did it in such a seductive manner, that Humphrey let out a long breath then and there.

"Can't wait" he said as he rubbed noses with her and bolted the same way her came. Kate looked on for another few minutes before she continued her patrol. But now that she saw her mate, it was truly a happy birthday.
