Notes: So as promised here's a summary of the other stories I was going to write and the snippet of the one I started. I'm so very sorry I couldn't complete them because I still do love these ideas! If anyone wants to take them please feel free to (just tag me if you write it, I'd love to read it!). It's sad they get send to my fanfic graveyard lol but if I force myself to do so I'll only be upset with it and myself so you guys do deserve better. Still I hope you enjoy the little bits here!
Day 26 – 1950s
Eren was to stand up to kids bullying Mikasa over her ethnicity. He gets decked in the face for it and reluctantly has to tell his mom why (though she can't be mad at him anymore after that). He slowly befriends Mikasa regardless of what anyone else said, and eventually takes her as his date to the dance. Very West Side Story minus the actual you know death.
Day 27 – Supernatural
Unsurprisingly inspired by Supernatural. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are hunters trained and raised under Levi's strict guidance which means they're some of the best. They three friends travel all over the country taking out the nastiest monsters the underworld has to offer but when Mikasa finds out she's pregnant they decide to go back to Levi's ranch. Eren tries to tell Levi but he flies off the handle, which Eren can't really understand cause they're adults it happens. In all his frustration he finally tells Eren why Levi never wanted the two of them to be together: Eren's family are descendents from the first hunters in all of history, and the Ackerman's are nepheliam, decedents of angels. Prophecy long told of what would happen when the two families would come together to bear a child. So in the words of Levi "Way to fuck over the world cause you couldn't keep it in your pants."
Day 28 – Plot of Your Favorite Book
Speaking of nepheliam, my favorite book series are the Shadowhunter books. So Armin's life gets turned completely upside down when he discovers he's part of this whole world he never even knew existed. Of course, Eren, his best friend gets dragged along for the ride since hey, who is going to protect Armin from…demons? vampires? Did you say werewolves? Surly not that blonde girl with icy eyes, or her black hair friend who could kick Eren's ass and he'd probably thank her for it. Nope, it had to be Eren, regular, everyday Eren who had no idea what was going on.
Day 29 – 1940/World War II
Another one dealing with race as Mikasa is kept as a prisoner at a camp. Eren is left as her guard, and she tries really hard to hate him like she hates all the people who took her family and locked her up for no reason other than she looked different. It's hard when he spends the long nights talking about home, about his mom, about how this wasn't how he wanted to serve his country, that he didn't understand why locking up a girl had anything to do with freedom. Slowly she learns not everyone here is the same, and Eren realizes sometimes the people giving him orders didn't always know what was best.
Day 30 – Pirates
You get a little of this one as I actually wrote some! It's not much but it's a little to leave you guys with 3 Inspired by: Seven Deadly Sins (Flogging Molly), Tessie (Dropkick Murphies), What's Left of the Flag (Flogging Molly)
Even despite the sea air rushing past Eren's face, the waves hitting the sides of the wooden hull, the sails billowing overhead, and of course, his loud ass crew on deck, he still heard the small cries. It took him a moment to pinpoint where it was coming from, but he took great pride in knowing every bit of his ship, especially where the youngest members went to hide.
Eren walked up the steps that lead up to the bow. They didn't keep too much up there, maybe some extra netting, old sails, extra supplies, but it did have a nice view. Eren listened to his boots hit against the wooden deck, his long jacket blowing in the wind as he got closer to the crying.
The person who was crying seemed to recognize Eren's footsteps because with a quick sniffle, the cries disappeared. It was too late for that though. Eren pressed his hands on the barrels of extra food and leaned over. Inside was a little fort made up of those old sails, netting, and odds and ends that were found around a ship of this size. The culprit was in there, looking up at Eren with swollen, red eyes.
"Cap'n," little boy said trying to give a smile and wipe his nose at the same time. "I was just…um…"
"Crying while you thought no one was looking?"
"No, I, um," Nicolas said, shaking his head. "I, um…" The six year old couldn't keep it in though, and the tears started to fall down his face again.
"Alright, kid, c'mere." Eren leaned in to grab under Nic's arms, pulling him up till he was sitting safely on one of the barrels facing Eren. "Why're you crying? Did someone do something to you?"
"No," Nic cried, reaching a hand up to rub at his eyes. "I wanna be with the crew."
"You are, right here, part of my crew."
"No," Nicolas cried harder. "I live here but I'm not on the crew. M-mama says I'm too little to help, and Jean won't let me help with the sails, S-sasha won't l-let me in the kitchen, Armin'll read to me and help with maps but he's always so busy and-and so are you."
Eren felt his chest get tight. He reached his hands up to take Nic's face and tilt it up so he was looking up. Eren brushed away some of the tears with his thumbs. "Well, kiddo, you are small. They tell you that because they're trying to keep you safe. It's not always easy up here, you know that, you've seen the storms that crash on desk, the people that try to raid us. The crew is your family, they want to protect you."
"But I wanna help too!" Nic exclaimed and Eren realized this clearly wasn't helping.
He sighed and stepped back before jumping up to sit on the barrel next to Nicolas. Maybe a personal example would be better. "I joined my first crew when I was about, oh, sixteen years old. Wanna know what I was good at?"
"You're the captain," Nic said, rolling his eyes. "Everything."
Eren leaned in, nudging Nicolas with an elbow. "Nothing."
That at least made Nic laugh. "Not true! You're good at everything!"
"I'm glad you think so," Eren snorted. "But I didn't start out that way at all." He paused for a second, looking down at the boy next to him. "Wanna hear the story?"
"What story?"
"How I became the captain of this ship."
Nicolas gasped, tears finally gone. "Yes!"
"Okay," Eren chuckled, stretching hus arms over his head. "It all happened a long, long time ago…"
"How long?"
Eren wasn't quite prepared for that question. "Oh um, maybe like twelve years ago?"
"That's not very long."
"It's longer than you've been alive." Eren reached over to ruffle Nic's hair. "And it all started with a brilliant plan of mine."
"This is the worst plan I've ever heard," Armin whispered from one side of Eren. "Do you actually expect this to work?"
Eren looked over the moonlit beach, the ship way out on the black ocean. He really didn't but he wasn't sure what else he could do. This was their only shot to get on board. This ship didn't come around that often and he had to get on. "You two don't have to come with me."
"I'm not letting you walk into your death," Mikasa said, mouth partly covered by her scarf that even looked red in the dark.
"So much faith in me, thanks a lot."
"Well, Eren, to be fair, your plan involves us hiding in barrels and becoming stowaways on a pirate ship where when they find us they'll probably kill us before you get the feel any sort of revenge," Armin said.
"Okay when you put it like that, its shit, I get it. But what else are we supposed to do? I have to get on there and you guys refuse to let me go alone. So what's your grand idea?"
"Simple, we walk up and say we wanna join the crew."
Eren could only stare over at him. "Are you kidding me?"
"What?" Armin said. "They'll either laugh in our faces which sucks but they probably won't kill us or they'll take us with them and then you get what you want."
"You think it'll be that simple? Seriously?"
Armin shrugged. "Yeah."
"Better than being crammed in a barrel," Mikasa said.
Eren was about to snap back at her when he saw her cheeks were slightly raised, she was smiling. He decided he wasn't all that annoyed anymore. "Fine, we'll try it your way." Eren stood up from behind the bushes they were crouched behind to step out onto the sand. Armin and Mikasa quickly followed behind. He was the one who was carrying the bag with all their things, so little belongs all three of them could keep it in one bag, their whole lives in one stupid bag.
Eren wouldn't let this chance go to waste. He'd do whatever he could to get on that ship.
"The boat's still here," Mikasa said, pointed off to a small wooden ship, bobbing in the nearby waves as it stayed anchored in the sand.
"At least we know they didn't sneak by us," Eren said. He was trying not to fidget, not to look too nervous, to look much older than he was but when he heard voice and saw a torch coming up the way and onto the beach it was hard not to feel like he was nine years old again watching his home burn.
Mikasa placed her hand over his and it was only then he realized it was clenched in a fist. He tried to relax as best he could as he led his friends over to the boat, where the pirates would have to see them. Eren begged Mikasa and Armin to stay in Shiganshina where it was safe, but they refused to stay here without him. As the pirates got closer, Eren had to admit, he felt much better having his oldest friends by his side.
"Well, what do we have here," a male voice called as the torch got closer. "Some rats looking for a fight?"
"No fight," Eren said, trying to keep his voice from wavering. "Just a proposition."
The man carrying the torch got closer where Eren could see the man's face, and the faces of the two other men carrying sacks on their shoulders. For a second Eren thought they were moving, that they were people but one of the men pulled an apple out before crunching down on it.
The man with the torch just looked smug now. "What could you squirts have that we want?"
What did they have that pirates would want? Eren didn't wanna be a damn pirate, but he had to do this.
"Man power," Armin spoke up. "You always need more hands don't you?"
The man laughed. "You three? Please. All of you together aren't even as big as my arm. What could you do?"
"She may not look it, but I bet you she's almost as strong as you are," Armin said pointing at Mikasa. "Her father also built ships, she knows her way around one just as good as anyone. I…um…I am, uh, good with navigation. I know how to read the stars and the wind."
None of it was lies really. Mikasa scared all the bullies away back home and Armin read every day so that one day he could hopefully see the world.
"Yeah, well, who says we even let women on our ship?"
"Oluo," one of the men hissed. "You know Petra will know you said that right?"
He paled in the moonlight a bit. "Well, what about him?" Oluo pointed at Eren. "Got a special talent kid?"
No, Eren wanted to say. He wasn't as gifted as his friends and he knew it but that wasn't going to get him on the ship. "I know medicine from my dad, he was a doctor, and I work well with my hands. I'm good in a fight. I'll do whatever you want."
Oluo snorted. "Well, alright then, we can always use some grunts. Why don't we take you to the cap'n and see what he has to say."
The men started to snicker but Eren was in too much shock to even care. This worked? This actually worked? The men let Mikasa get in the boat first with Eren and Armin following, and the other pirates in last. The boat started to move with an uneasy rock and as the shore got farther and farther away, Eren wondered if he was making the right choice. It wasn't just his life, it was Armin and Mikasa's too. They agreed though this was their choice.
Eren felt hesitation until the large ship came closer into view, the moonlight shining down on the name across the side, The Legion.
Anger boiled in his veins. It was the reason his parents were dead, the reason the Ackerman's were dead, the Arlerts, the reason they had no home, why they were alone in the world. Eren would get his revenge for every tear shed by himself and the people he cared for most in the world.
"So it was Armin's plan, not yours, Cap'n," Nic giggled.
Eren leaned in slightly. "Are you surprised?"
"Nope." Nic gasped. "Wait, what was that cap'n like?"
Eren whistled. "He was this tall, broad shouldered man, very intimidating but his eyes were always very kind. I couldn't believe he was actually the leader of a vicious band of pirates."
"He was a good guy?"
"A very good guy, one of the best, took us in without a second glance. I was so dumbfounded." Eren paused at the recollection. "His first mate on the other hand…he kinda had it out for me."
Eren dropped the soap and water covered rag on the wooden deck for what seemed like the millionth time that day. He reached up a wet hand to try and rub some of the sweat from his face but even the water he was using to clean the deck didn't cool him off any; mainly because it was warm and covered in grime by now. Honestly, Eren expected to be put through the shitty jobs but he wasn't quite expecting to be told to clean the entire deck by himself while the pirates lounged around all day. He blinked up at the sky, the bright sun almost impossible to squint away from. He didn't see land anywhere nearby, his hometown long gone. Eren gripped the wet rag and started to scrub at the deck again. He had to pay his dues to be able to get what he wanted. Yeah, Captain Smith was actually understanding when he met Eren, Mikasa, and Armin the night before and gave them places to sleep right away even going as far as letting Mikasa stay with them instead being separated no questions asked. It was well, really nice, but it didn't change that fact they were all pirates and they had to pay.
"Hey, kid," a guff voice grunted and Eren resisted the urge to groan.
He looked up to see the first mate Levi standing off to the side; a few of the men who were with Oluo the night before started to snicker. "Yes, sir?" Eren asked, though he had a feeling it would be nothing good.
