'Where the HELL have all these guys come from?' Caterina shouted at Delsin.

'No idea, but they must really want those people in that container. And I sure as hell ain't letting them have them!' Delsin shouted back.

The two Conduits separated and made their way around Denny Park, taking out as many soldiers as they could. It seemed like all their effort was wasted when more and more reinforcements appeared from nowhere. Delsin and Caterina made their way over to each other in the middle of the park as they tried to fight off the vast D.U.P. forces.

'Shit it seems like they've sent the whole army after us.' Delsin growled.

'Err I hate to interrupt you but, what are those guys?' Caterina asked as she nudged Delsin then pointed to two bulky bodies that were surrounded in ginormous chunks of floating concrete.

'Bad news.' Delsin grabbed Caterina's arm and hauled her over to the edge of the park away from the advancing DUPE Conduits and soldiers and hid behind a wall. Eugene's Angels that were providing much needed back-up were almost near eradicated and both Delsin and Caterina were running low on energy. Delsin had an idea though. He contacted Eugene whilst Caterina popped out from behind the wall every so often to return fire and try to keep the DUPES at bay.

'Eugene, you got any more Angels you can send our way?'

'Er, yeah look, but it might take a while.'

'Uh huh. We haven't got a while. Gonna use up all the ones we got in about two minutes.'

'No no no no NO! This isn't supposed to happen!'

'Don't flake on me now man!'

'Err look I can't… I can't do this anymore!'

'Eugene… no no no! Stay with me, Eugene? Eugene come on man, please tell me you did NOT just leave me at the altar!'

'Delsin what is he doing? I can't hold all these guys back much longer on my own you gotta help me!' Caterina squealed.

'C'mon we gotta do what we can!' Delsin said in reply. The two Conduits jumped out from behind the wall and launched whatever they had at the soldiers who were edging closer. Caterina had nearly used all of her ice energy and the next readily available power was her Telekinesis. She dove toward an already downed soldier and laid her hand on his face as she withdrew energy from him to power herself. Delsin and Caterina had to avoid the attacks coming from the big guys who constantly launched massive slabs of concrete at them. Delsin would try and keep the onslaught of gunfire from the soldiers away from Caterina who was focusing on the big concrete DUPES. Caterina with her Telekinesis though was able to catch the chunks of concrete mid-air and fling it back at whoever was the closest. She'd either hit one of the big guys or a small gathering of regular soldiers. As soon as the big guys had thrown their collection of concrete slabs that encircled them, Delsin would fire everything he had at them hoping it would weaken them.

'If Eugene doesn't send us back-up now we're gonna… woah.' Caterina started. She soon stopped talking as a massive shadow was cast over the park.

'BEHOLD FOR I HAVE COME!'

A voice boomed from the creature casting the shadow over the park.

'Eugene? Buddy, please tell me that's you.' Delsin shouted.

'NOW PREPARE TO FEEL THE WRATH OF HEAVENS FIRE!'

'Oh you guys are gonna hate this.' Delsin cackled.

Caterina looked up to see an angel. Not just any angel but a gargantuan armoured angel. It was Eugene; he was the back up along with a dozen of the smaller angels. They soon got to work on the D.U.P. baddies which gave both Delsin and Caterina a bit of breathing space to recharge.

'Eugene, when this whole thing is over… you think you can teach me how to do that?' Delsin shouted.

'YOU ARE NOT WORTHY!' Eugene's loud voice boomed in reply.

'You turn in to a real ass when you're an angel, you know that?' Delsin shouted back at him.

Caterina laughed and shook her head. Eugene being there had lessened the amount of soldiers they had to defeat and the two big guys had stopped throwing their concrete as Eugene had them under control. It was just a case of mopping up now. Delsin had drained more Neon and Caterina had recharged from another downed soldier. All together along with Eugene's angels, they made short work of the remaining DUPES. The entire park was in a mess and full of debris and unconscious soldiers. Eugene had landed on the roof of a building overlooking the park and had shrunk back down to his "human" form. Delsin and Caterina made their way up to him.

'Well, look who decided to join the real world.' Delsin said as he walked toward Eugene.

'Yeah, you convinced me.' Eugene replied as he turned round to face Delsin and Caterina who was stood behind him. 'Figured I'd give people one more chance.'

'Well on behalf of "people" thank you.' Delsin said.

'Yeah well, worst that could happen, they let me down again. I rain hellfire on their asses.'

Delsin and Caterina chuckled at Eugene's remark.

'Hey Eugene.' Caterina piped up. 'We're gonna go eat, you wanna join us?'

'Ah, maybe some other time. It's been a long day.'

'Sure thing.'

And with that, Eugene jumped off the building. Delsin and Caterina ran to the edge to see Eugene turn in to his Angel alter Ego and fly away back to his hideout.

'There you go kid… happy thoughts.' Said Delsin. He then turned to Caterina. 'Well it looks like it's just us tonight. I texted Fetch earlier to see if she wanted to hang with us but she hasn't replied. I wanted you two to meet.'

'Yeah err, we kinda already met. Sort of.' Caterina mumbled as she scratched her head.

'What do you mean "kinda" met?'

'My handler sent me in to capture her. She got away.'

'Oh, so she knows you're D.U.P. Well, was D.U.P.'

'Yep.'

'Hmm I suppose I should talk to her before you meet, so she doesn't fly off the handle.' Delsin muttered.

'That would probably be a good idea.'

Delsin and Caterina soon found a Mexican restaurant close by and made themselves comfortable in a booth by a window. They both ordered their food from the frighteningly nice waitress and a couple of beers. Caterina had also asked the waitress for a glass of ice which was swiftly brought to her along with their beers. Caterina soon dove in to the ice and started chewing each cube like it was some sort of snack, much to Delsin's amusement. The girl was endearingly odd.

'So, how are you enjoying it on the outside?' Delsin asked her as he sipped his beer.

'I love it here. I couldn't ask for more.'

'Can I ask you about New Marais?' Delsin asked.

'Sure, what do you wanna know?' Caterina replied.

'Anything you wanna tell me I guess. What happened to you there?'

'I don't know the full story of what happened but it sure as hell wasn't the story the government put out. It's where I became an active Conduit. Some scientist was performing experiments in New Marais. Long story short but something went wrong and his lab blew up. I was out running some errands for my Aunt nearby and err, one of the shards from the blast hit me. It all went downhill from there. My mother was shot in militia cross fire. My little brother Niko went missing. The rest of my family were separated. I had nowhere to go so I ended up homeless.'

Delsin reclined back in to his seat. 'Cat I had no idea.'

'Nobody ever does. I get it, I'm talented, I'm clever, athletic, pretty, whatever. Apparently I got it all. But all that money my mother put in to me being the best I could be in everything didn't mean shit when I ended up on my own with no money and nobody to turn to in a new country. Plus I had a new power I had to figure out too.'

Delsin felt pretty bad. Listening to Caterina tell her story made him think of Fetch. She and her brother had a pretty bad life after she became a Conduit; running away from home after her parents called in the government to take her away, both becoming addicted to drugs and living on the streets. So Caterina and Fetch were similar in some aspects.

'So what did you end up doing?' Delsin asked, hoping he wasn't overstepping the mark.

'Whatever I could short of standing on a street corner turning tricks.' Caterina replied after she drank some of her beer. 'I pickpocketed, boosted cars, did dodgy jobs for gangs. Anything I could to buy food and clothes. I could never keep enough money to rent a room for a night or two so I ended up staying in homeless camps. Some of them were all Conduit camps too.'

'I never knew there were such things.'

'Oh there were loads of them. After what happened in New Marias, a lot of Conduits who were still alive fled. We all kinda stuck together when we could.' Caterina sighed. She picked up another ice cube out of her glass and started chewing it. Her eyes soon widened as she saw their waitress bringing their food over on a huge tray. Caterina glared at the pork Quesadillas that Delsin had ordered before the spicy chicken Enchiladas she ordered were placed in front of her by the waitress. The waitress placed down some salads and various other sauces and sides before asking if they'd like more beer and if Caterina would like another glass of ice. She hurried away.

'You know you can eat it, it won't run away.' Delsin stated as he looked at Caterina who was staring intently at her food.

'I don't want to. It's beautiful.'

'Your beers.' The waitress said as she set them down on the table. 'Can I get you anything else?'

'No thanks.' Delsin replied. The waitress nodded and left them to it.

Caterina had enough of looking at her food. She was sat happily chewing away at her Enchiladas with that strange look on her face she always had when she was really enjoying it.

'Ugh, I've waited so long for this.' She sighed.

Delsin just shook his head and smiled as he tucked in to his own food.

'So tell me more about you Delsin.' Said Caterina as she dabbed her lips with a paper napkin. 'We always end up talking about me.'

'There's not much to say really.'

'There must be! What about your home, where do you live, what are the people like?'

'Well,' Delsin started. 'You already met Reggie. We live in a cabin in a reservation a short while away from the city. The rest of the tribe are all real nice folks, we're a big community. But Reggie has been the one trying to keep me on the straight and narrow since our parents died.'

'Oh my God Delsin I'm sorry.' Caterina gasped.

'Don't worry about it. It was a long time ago. Reggie tries his best but… I dunno. I think he thinks I'm an embarrassment 'cause he keeps having to arrest me for stupid stuff.'

'He's your big brother, he's only looking out for you.'

'I know. But I'm glad he's here helping me, there's a lot of people back home counting on us.'

'Well I'll help you in any way I can Delsin.'

'Thanks Cat. It means a lot.'

The two smiled warmly at each other for longer than usual before they both realised they were full on staring. Delsin shook his head and went back to his food whilst Caterina fished another cube of ice out of her glass and munched away on it before she ate more of her spicy chicken Enchiladas.

'What is that all about?' Delsin chuckled at Caterina.

'Oh, eating ice cubes? I don't know, it kinda keeps my ice power ticking over for a bit. I mean it's not like you can find a freezer or a chiller van on every street corner can you?'

'That is true.'

'This is just an easier way to keep myself topped up. It's either that or I loiter around the supermarket frozen food aisles like a weirdo or take up permanent residence in a Coldstone Creamery store.'

'I never thought of it like that.'

'Hmm most of the time people think I have some strange craving and that I'm pregnant or something. Next time some waitress asks how far gone I am, I'm gonna ask her for some coal to snack on.'

Delsin burst out laughing at her comment.

'Haha I'd love to see that!'

Delsin and Caterina had decided to go back to the apartment after their late meal. It getting late in the evening and the two Conduits were ready to rest after a long day of fighting DUPES. Caterina flew in to what was considered her room and changed in to the green flannel check shirt Delsin had let her wear. Delsin on the other hand headed straight in to the bathroom. Caterina had made herself comfortable on the sofa and switched the TV on, she soon heard the sound of running water. Delsin must have got in the shower. Caterina sat with the remote in her hand and flicked through hundreds of TV channels trying to find something to watch.

'I haven't watched TV properly in years and it still hasn't changed.' She mumbled to herself as the made her way back through all the channels a second time. She eventually stopped at the movie channels and flicked through them hoping for something to watch.

'All those channels and nothing to watch.'

Caterina glanced up to find a partially clothed Delsin stood at the other end of the sofa, watching the TV screen whilst he rubbed a towel through his hair. Caterina was still changing the TV channels but wasn't watching what was on the screen at all but she was staring at Delsin who didn't seem to notice what she was doing. For such a tall skinny guy he was rather well built in Caterina's eyes. She soon moved her head back to face the TV as soon as she noticed Delsin move his head. He shuffled over and sat on the sofa next to the now blushing girl. She was thankful that the living room was only illuminated by the TV, making it difficult for Delsin to see her flushed face.

'Looks like I may have lost my shirt.' Delsin chuckled.

'Well if you want it back you might have a fight on your hands.' Caterina retorted.

'Nahh you keep it.' Delsin said as he slyly eyed Caterina up. 'It looks much better on you.'

Caterina let out a small giggle. All she wanted to do right now, was walk over to the fridge-freezer and stick her head in the ice-box.
