Chapter Twenty-Six

Slim Possibility

Spencer woke up a few days later, looking over to Shailene sound asleep, clutching onto his side in her sleep. For the past few days, nearly a week, she'd been sick throughout the morning. Spencer wanted to take her to the doctors to make sure it wasn't the flu or stomach bug, but she fought him against the idea. Spencer kissed the top of her head, before slowly getting out of the bed and walking towards the small bathroom that was conjoined to his bedroom.

He went through his morning routine to get ready for work, hoping they wouldn't get another case, so that he could come home to Shailene. When he stepped back into the bedroom, he saw that Shailene's side of the bed was empty, and before he called out her name - he heard her moving around just outside the door.

Spencer changed quickly into a pair of black dress pants, Shailene's favourite plum purple dress shirt and suit vest. He checked himself in the mirror of his bedroom, before slipping on his shoes and heading out the door towards the main part of the apartment. When he walked towards the kitchen he saw Shailene standing with his back to him, in her pale blue night dress, with his long brown hair cascading down her back. It was mornings likes these that Spencer cherished, and where for a moment, he had to question how and why he was ever so lucky to have her in his life.

"Good morning," Spencer spoke as he walked around to stand behind her, wrapping his arms around his waist and dropping a kiss to the skin behind her ear "You feeling better?"

Shailene nodded, and turned her head to smile towards him "For right now. I didn't wake up feeling nauseous like the past few days"

"That's good," Spencer stepped back out of her arms, and moved around towards the coffee pot, to pour himself a cup "I still think you should head over to the doctors. Make sure everything is ok."

Shailene chuckled "Love, I'm fine. I'm just a little ill. Nothing to worry doctors over with something so small"

"We don't know its small." Spencer looked towards her "There are about 200 different types of diseases and infections that start off feeling like a cold. It's almost been a week and it's getting worse,"

Shailene placed the toast she'd just made onto a plate, before moving around Spencer and going into the pantry to grab the hazelnut spread.

"Spencer, love, I'm make you a promise. If by the end of the week, we will go and see a doctor." She smiled towards, before turning back to prepare the rest of her breakfast.

Spencer agreed, before kissed her goodbye, and walking out of the kitchen to get his bag all set and ready before leaving. Looking towards the time, he saw the he was cutting it close. He downed as much of the hot liquid as he could, before kissing Shailene harder before he left for the day.

The drive to Quantico was a fast one, and getting into the building went just as quick. The moment his card was swiped through the reader, he was heading towards the elevator to go towards the BAU floor. When he walked out to the pen, Spencer saw that Derek and JJ were already there, JJ resting against Emily's desk as they spoke. Both of the teammates turned towards Spencer as he walked into the bullpen.

"Hey, pretty boy." Derek smiled as Spencer moved to take a seat at his desk "How's it going?"

"G-Good." He stuttered slightly as he checked his phone to make sure Shailene hadn't called "Busy. Usual"

JJ looked towards him concerned, before speaking "You sure Spencer? You look a little, frazzled"

He nodded his head, "Shailene has been sick the past few days, and I'm just worried it's worse than it actual is."

"You sure she's ok?" JJ asked with concern as she looked towards him. Spencer nodded his head once more before.

"She promised me that I could take her to the doctors the moment she got worse." Spencer explained "It seems she has a stomach bug. She wakes up sick in the morning and…"

JJ chuckled before looking towards Derek, his face wearing the same look of amusement. Spencer looked towards his two friend with confusions, before Derek spoke to him seeing his confusion quickly.

"You never think that maybe, just maybe, she might be carrying a little genius?" Derek smiled brightly towards his friend.

Spencer sat there in confusion for another moment as he looked towards Derek "No. I-I mean..but...I-No. She...Shailene's…."

But quickly the realization of what Derek was telling him slowly started to sink in. His face paled out and all the colour drained down into his body. Derek and JJ stared back towards him, now worried on whether or not he was going to pass out. Spencer began to slowly ramble to himself as he went over the last few times he and Shailene were together. It was in England, he knew that much, but was sure they'd use protection each time.

"It's ok Spence." JJ spoke walked towards him with a concerned look on her face "I'm sure everything is gonna be fine. You wanted this remember"

"Yeah," His voice cracked the moment he spoke "But not right now. We're just getting over things. This….I mean…"

"Spence, breathe" JJ spoke interrupting his ramble "You're not for sure yet. We were just...saying. Morning sickness is a sign of pregnancy"

"I'm surprised you didn't think of it sooner, kid" Derek spoke from across him.

"I-I….didn't think of it at all," Spencer whispered

Spencer looked up as he heard the glass door of the bullpen open, turning around in his seat to see Shailene walk into the room. She waved towards him shyly, the drugstore plastic bag in her small hands. The moment JJ and Derek brought the idea into his mind, he called her. Shailene walked towards him, a nervous look on her blue eyes, before she went stood in front of him. She wrapped herself into his arms as he stood up from desk and hugged her tightly, kissing the side of her temple.

"You ok?"

Shailene sighed heavily, before nodding her head "As good as I'm going to be. I got the, um, test."

"Ok," He reached down and grabbed her hand, gently pulling her away from the small area and down the hall towards JJs office. "We'll...um...take care of it in here,"

Spencer opened the door and led her inside, before closing it back behind him. Shailene walked towards the bathroom that was connected to JJs office, feeling her heart against her chest, quick and fast. Her finger fumbled slightly as she reached into the bag and grabbed out the box, the word 'pregnancy test' screaming back at her from the box.

Shailene sighed heavily before ripping open the box and taking out the test. Quickly she took it, before placing it on a piece of paper towel. She opened the door to see Spencer pacing back and forth through the length of JJs office, before turning back towards Shailene the moment she came out of the bathroom. His dropped his nails from his lips, and looked towards her.

"We have to wait three minutes and then it'll be finished" Shailene spoke softly, before moving to take a seat on the end of the couch in JJs office.

Spencer moved to take a seat beside her and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, bringing her close into his side. Spencer seemingly couldn't believe that he was sitting in the BAU offices waiting to see if he'd be a father or not. She rested her head onto his chest and sighed deeply, her body instantly relaxing. Shailene's hand coasted down to her stomach, where he hand fisted.

"What if it's positive?" She whispered lightly

"Then we'll….go with that point." Spencer spoke softly "But what...what would you want to do?"

Shailene pushed back away from him and shifted herself to look up towards him "I could never give up a child that was mine. I know I wanna be a mom...but...right now?"

Spencer looked towards her and could see the worry and hesitation on her face. Shailene didn't wanna let Spencer know that she was scared of the fact that she might not be able to be ready to be a mother. Only less than three months ago she was rescued from her kidnapper and abuser, and know she was waiting to see if she was going to become a mother. Spencer reached across and took her hand in his, holding it tightly as his brown eye stared right back at her.

"Whatever happens, we're going to be ok." Spencer spoke sincerely "I promise"

The two of them sat in silence, before the small alarm Shailene placed on her phone began to go off. She sighed before getting up from the couch, Spencer following behind her, and walked back towards the bathroom. She felt her heart hard against her chest as she walked towards the small sink and picked up the test. Shailene made sure to grab the box and read the back to make sure she didn't get the answers mixed up. Comparing what the screen on the stick, back to the pictures on the box, and couldn't help the smile that came across her face. Spencer waited in the doorway, anxious to know the result, and watched as Shailene looked back towards him. Her blue eyes flooding with unshed tears, and a smile on her face.

"What does it say?" He asked, seeing as he couldn't read her expressions. Not knowing if she was smiling from relief or being pregnant, or not.

She sniffled lightly "Seems like we're getting a head start on the family." Spencer looked towards her in shock "Guess 'daddy' is going to be the new title for you."

"Y-You're….we're….a baby?"

Shailene nodded her head and set the stick back down onto the table "Yeah. We're going to have a little one soon, my love"

Spencer walked towards her quickly and grabbed around her waist, before pulling into her and hugging her tightly. Shailene's tears fell down her cheeks as she hugged Spencer tighter. The fear of being a mother was still there, but was overshadowed by the happiness she felt over the news.

"I'm going to be a dad?" Spencer whispered into her neck, pulling back to kiss her lightly on the lips. The it sunk in, and he looked down towards her in shock "I'm going to be a dad,"

AN: I was so planning this for the second part, the baby, but wanted to lead into part 2 with a happier note. Four more chapters about till the end of this section. Shailene's outfit is on my profile and now for the questions!
