Thank you all for the reviews! They were amazing and inspiring. Sorry it's been an unreasonable wait, but life got in the way and so many things happened that I just couldn't deal with it all. I'm sorry I've been a horrible write in not updating in so long, but I hope that this chapter makes up for it! Enjoy!
I hope that you guys can review! This being the last chapter, I would love hearing from you guys and your overall thoughts about it!
I'm going to start a new story soon, which I will give you all a small peek at the end of this chapter. Tell me what you think about it and any ideas are welcomed for the new story and if anyone would like to PM me we could work together on it. I value all of your opinions and even though you might be just a reader on this site that is okay for that helps just as much as being a writer on this site.

He's been talking to Black Canary a lot. They all have. It was still mandatory even though the incident happened a little over a month ago. Sure, the therapy visits weren't everyday like they used to be, but having them every other day didn't make them any more pleasant. Wally was especially annoyed with this for he did have to still see her every day. The worst part is that he knows why he has to. Sure, he was technically the most damaged by this experience, however most of it he has already dealt with it and has no problem processing and forgetting the events.
Forgetting.
That seemed like the better option. Wally always had his chance for revenge; every hero has. They all learned that it was easier to accept what happened and forget about it rather seek revenge on the person or people that damaged them. It all seems sad in a way that you should never forget, but in reality these heroes have more to worry about than what happened to them in the past when they were just fine now. Forgetting the past wasn't a lost, especially if it wasn't a happy one. Those pasts aren't important, not as important as the present.
So here he was, sitting in the living room with the rest of the team, waiting to be called in for their therapy for the day. Basically Black Canary would ask every team member how they were doing and processing all this 'new' information. She asked them if they had anything to talk about. However with Wally, things were different. Sure she asked him how he was feeling and he would give his generic answer about how peachy he was because the sun was shining, but then the question would be asked.
Did you try today?
He would always answer no, he didn't try to kill himself today or yesterday or the day before or the day before that. Ever since he talked to Robin about how many times he wished he could die, everyone would be so afraid that he might give his life up. They had nothing to worry now. The chaos was done, he was happy again and no one from the shadows tried to kill him in a while. Life was good, yet his friends didn't treat it that way and Wally could never understand why.
Conner got called in first and within thirty seconds, he was huffing his way out of the room and out of the mountain. Canary came out with a defeated look on her face, but quickly shrugged it off to plaster the stern and strong look on her face. Yup, everything was back to normal.
"Kauldar," she called.
Kauldar quietly got up from his seat and followed his trainer into the secluded room. Time went on and on until Kauldar finally emerged and headed out the room. "Do we all get to leave once we're done?" Artemis asked hopefully
"No," replied Canary. "Kauldar is going to go find Conner, and hopefully bring him back. M'gann."
M'gann gently floated through the door with her hands clasped together behind her back. Now it just left Artemis, Wally and Robin. Nobody was talking to each other. Nobody ever did when it was therapy day. There were no words to be said that they haven't already heard like complaining about having to do this in the first place. Robin was sharpening the edges of his bird-a-rangs, occasionally gazing at his reflection in them. Wally was loudly tapping his feet on the ground and tapping his hands on his legs at the same time. Artemis was glaring at him, mentally wishing he would stop but didn't want to start another fight so she kept quiet. Wally eventually stopped after a while, getting bored of tapping his hands and feet and Artemis sighed in relief. He couldn't take this anymore.
"Do you guys want to get out of here?" He asked
"Just get up and leave?" Artemis clarified
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm sick of this 'therapy' that we don't need and waiting here in awkward silence is killing me."
Artemis stood up joined him at his side, ready to leave. "You coming, Rob?"
"No," he said grimly. "I'm staying. It's that day."
"Oh," was all Wally could say.
How could he be so stupid? How could he be so wrapped up in himself that he couldn't see his best friend was hurting? And how could he not remember that today was the day he became an orphan? He felt like such a lousy friend. Screw his problems; he was going to be here for Dick like he had done for him. Wally sat back down to wait with Robin, but he waved him off.
"Go," he ordered. "Get out of here. I'll be fine."
"I said the same thing once," replied Wally. "I'm staying."
"I appreciate what you're doing, but we'll meet up later."
"Are you sure?"
"If you don't get out of here now, I'll kick your ass."
"Okay I'm going!"
Robin gave a forced smile that as soon as Artemis and Wally's back was turned to him, it dropped like a fly. He looked back at his shiny bird-a-rang and saw his face staring back. He saw a thirteen year old kid with jet black hair and dark glasses on that covered his baby blue eyes, but every so often when he looked down at it, he saw a nine year boy with jet black hair with visible blue eyes that were filled with tears. Sometimes he would here his mother calling him her little Robin for the last time, and other times he would hear both of his parents calling his name as they fell to their death.
He angrily threw the bird-a-rang across the room where it lodged itself into the wall with a quiet thud. Dick drew his arms across his chest and leaned back in his chair, glaring at the world. He couldn't look at his anymore because all he saw was that nine year old boy crying as he watched his parents fall, being completely useless. Now he was thirteen and he knew he could've easily saved them, but he didn't. His parents caught him so many times, yet he couldn't jump out and do the same for them. What kind of hero was he?
Artemis and Wally walked to the zeta beams, eager to leave the cave. "Where do you want to go?" She asked him
He shrugged. "I'm not really in the mood to go back to Central. I know I'll run into my aunt and uncle, and I just can't talk to them right now."
"We can always go to Gotham."
"Why?"
"Well that's where I live," she replied shakily, trusting Wally. "And besides you needed to catch up with Robin later so it'll be a convenience to you both."
"Thank you," Wally said. "And I thought you lived in Star City, with your Uncle?"
"Just because he's my uncle doesn't mean we live in the same city," she defended herself.
"Mmmhmm."
"Come on Baywatch," she said, punching in the numbers for Gotham. "We have to stop by my house. I want to tell my mom where I'm going."
Even though she told her mom she would be at the cave, she just wanted to inform her. She knows that if she doesn't update her and something bad happened to her, she wouldn't know where she is and therefore couldn't help anyone find her. It was crazy, but he made her mom feel better.
"Why not just call her?"
"Left my phone at my house. After my therapy session, I planned on ditching like Conner."
Wally smirked mischievously. "So I get to meet your mother…. I didn't think we were this far along in our relationship. You sure like to move fast."
She punched him in the arm and shoved him through the zeta beam and then stalked into it herself. They walked out of an abandoned telephone booth in an ally way where they quickly tried not to draw attention to themselves as they merged onto the sidewalk. "This way," the archer said as she pointed to the left.
Together they walked about three blocks in silence before they reached Artemis's house, well apartment. Wally gazed up at the trashed apartment building and then back at Artemis who didn't seem fazed by the buildings appearance and walked up to the front door. He shook himself out of the daze he was in and accepted the fact; she was poor and there isn't anything he can do about it. He walked up to the front door just as Artemis unlocked it with her key and strolled in with her.
"Mom!"
"Artemis? I thought you were at the cave," her mother said from another room.
"Yeah well I didn't feel like doing the whole therapy thing so Wally and I ditched."
"Wally?" she questioned
Paula Crock finally made herself known as she wheeled herself into the room. Yes wheeled for she was in a wheel chair. Wally was taken back a bit but didn't let his face show it. There was an awkward silence before Paula opened her arms to him. "It is so nice to finally meet you!"
Wally welcomed her embrace and returned the hug with a little pat on her back. "I…ugh… it's nice to see you too."
Artemis was blushing, but you couldn't see it because she had her face buried in her hands from embarrassment. Paula released Wally and gazed up upon him, smiling. Artemis quickly said something before her mother had anything else to say. "Yeah I just came to tell you that we'll be somewhere in Gotham instead of the cave. So we'll be on our way."
She quickly grabbed the red head's wrist and dragged him out the door as he happily waved good-bye to Artemis's mom, who smiled at the boy and waved back as well. Once the two stepped down the stairs, they turned left out of her house and down the street. Wally had his hands in his hoodie pockets, smiling smugly at the blonde. She finally took notice of his starring and asked what his problem was.
"You talk about me to your mom."
"…only the annoying things you!"
"Uh-huh. That's why she was so happy to see me because I'm sooo annoying."
"Shut up, its none of your business what I talk about to my mom."
"It is if it's concerning me," Wally countered.
"Doesn't mean I won't tell you what it was about," she smiled.
Wally huffed in annoyance. He just wanted to KNOW! Well if he can't get that secret out, maybe he can get another out. He remembered what Robin said to him, though it seemed like he accidently said it, he knew Robin meant to say it.
"We thought that you were the one normal one out of all of us. Superboy is a clone, M'gann is a Martian, Kauldar is from Atlantis, Zatanna's dad is Doctor Fate, I'm an orphaned acrobat, and Artemis's family is a long line of villains-"
"Wait, what?"
Robin ignored him and said, "We thought that you were normal."
Thought he was normal. Thanks for that vote of confidence Rob. But the thing that he won't ever forget is that Artemis's family is a long line of villains. That's amazing how she turned out a hero if that is the case, but then that also makes her a suspect to being the mole. Wally knew better though. He knew that she couldn't be the mole because he trusted her, and that was enough to erase suspicion.
"Tell me about your family," Wally said.
"What?" she asked, taken back.
"Your family; I heard you come from a…. critical family."
"Yeah you could say that. My dad wanted me to be one thing and my mom the other."
"And you eventually went with your mom?" he inquired
"It seemed like the better option," she replied. "My sister wasn't so lucky."
"Is she with your dad now?" he asked
She only shrugged. "I don't know. Sometimes she is and sometimes she's not. I don't even know where my dad is let alone my sister."
Wally's shoulders sank. How come he never knew? He knew why, because he was always calling her a traitor and a replacement. I guess you don't exactly want to open up to people who call you those things.
"Your mom seems nice."
"She is," was Artemis's reply as she looked anywhere but Wally. "She always wants what's best for me."
"As any good parent should," Wally said although he had no idea. "Was she always…"
"Crippled? No," Artemis said finishing for him.
"What happened? You don't have to respond if you don't want to!" He added quickly
She stopped walking and stared at the ground. Wally stopped too, realizing she was no longer walking beside him. He faced her and put both hands on her shoulders. She looked up at him with an emotionless expression. "It's okay," he reassured her. "You can trust me. You know I wouldn't blab about something like that."
"No I trust you," she said. "I just don't know how to say it. I never told anyone…the only people who knew were my family and I didn't need to tell them because they found out before I did."
So she wasn't there when it happened. It's still not good that it happened, but at least she didn't witness it. Wally asked, "Was this when your mom was a criminal?"
Artemis snapped her head up in anger. "Robin told me by accident," Wally said quickly.
"By accident, sure…"
Wally sighed. "Okay fine he probably meant to tell me, but I'm mad he did. I wanted you to be the one to tell me, not him. I wanted you to trust me or anyone enough to tell someone."
"I guess if it's going to be anyone it's going to be you," Artemis said. "Yes, this is when she was a criminal."
"Was your whole family criminals?" Wally asked though he already knew the answer.
"Yes. My dad is…" She sighed. She didn't want to say it. If she said it, what will make Wally stay? What will make Wally want to listen to anything she has to say? They've been getting along well this past weeks, and now it'll all go down the drain when she tells him. She felt Wally squeeze her shoulders. She looked up and met his smiling eyes, so she took a deep breath and finished her sentence.
"Sportsmaster. MY dad is Sportsmaster and my sister is Cheshire."
"…"
"…"
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yeah okay as in it's alright," he said.
She smiled and scowled at him playfully. "I know what okay means I'm just wondering how you're okay with it!"
"I'll admit I was shocked, but so what? You're not like them. We don't get to choose who we're related to, but we do get to choose our family."
She could've called out on his cheesiness, but what he said was so true and heartwarming that she didn't want to. She felt the courage build up inside her and she went on with the story. "My mom used to be Huntress. I don't know what they were doing, I never found out, but my parents went out together dressed as Huntress and Sportsmaster. My mom got hurt while doing the job, and it ended up paralyzing her… and my dad left her! My dad left her so he wouldn't get caught, and my mom took the blame for him and went to jail."
Wally still had his hands on her shoulders, but he realized that was only a small comfort. He pulled her into a hug that she accepted and hid her face in his shoulder so that nobody in Gotham could see the tears swelling in her eyes. She never talked about it, so she never had to deal with the emotion that came with it. "That's not even the worst part," she said.
He held her even tighter.
"He raised me. He raised me and Jade to be a villain just like him. Of course he didn't see it that way, but that's how it was. It was too late for Jade. It was too late for her to change. One night, she packed her stuff up and left. She left me alone with him and he was not happy that she left."
Artemis wasn't crying. She had tears in her eyes but those quickly disappeared and her eyes filled with anger. Anger towards Jade. Anger towards her father. Anger towards her mother. Anger towards herself.
"But mom did come back," she continued. "And she changed. She found out Jade left and went off at him. She didn't want to lead this life anymore, she didn't want me to have this life and she didn't want him living in the same house as us anymore."
"Go Ms. C," Wally cheered.
Artemis gave a small laugh and pulled back from Wally. She stared him in the eyes and just couldn't help but feel happier. She looked away and continued to walk down the street, Wally shortly joining him. There was a bit of silence before Wally spoke again.
"And he moved out."
She nodded. "He moved out. Though he said that my life didn't have a choice anymore; that I will end up like him."
"He's wrong," the red head quickly exclaimed. "You're nothing like him. You're too kind and sassy and beautiful to be anything corrupt or evil."
"You think I'm beautiful?" she inquired
"I like how you picked that one up first," he smiled. "And yes you're beautiful. Anyone would be a fool to say otherwise."
"Well thank you for the compliment," she smiled.
"Aren't you going to give one back?"
"If it's well deserved."
"What do I have to do to deserve the honor of your compliment?" he asked
"Hmm…" she thought. "You can smack the little bird around for blabbing about me."
"But my lady! That is suicide!"
"Don't you want a compliment?"
"Can I get it in advanced? I don't think I can wait this long."
She tapped her chin and rolled her eyes. "I suppose so, let me think."
"Gee thanks. It's nice to know you have to think about something nice to say to me."
"Oh hush," she said.
They turned the corner on the block and Wally spotted a food bender. He told her he would be right back and ran to order some food. She rolled her eyes playfully and leaned against the building wall, waiting for him to return. As she was waiting she looked around the street. Just busy people leading busy lives, rushing to get where ever it is they are going. Then she saw him. The man with dark hair and a scruff beard swaggering his way other to her. "This should be fun," she said to herself.
He leaned up against the wall next to her and she said, "Can I help you?"
"I sure hope you can," he smiled with his yellow teeth. "Ya see, my girl broke my heart the other day and I need someone to fill the hole, ya know?"
"No," she said in a monotone voice. "Please explain to me whatever it is you mean."
"Well," he said not picking up her sarcasm, "I need someone to take home t'night, cause I get so lonely by myself….care to keep me entertained?"
"Care to have a foot in your ass?" Wally asked approaching the man
"I'm busy here man, be on ya way," the man shooed.
He turned back to Artemis with one hand on the wall leaning over towards her. She kept looking straight ahead, trying to cringe at his breath. "So what do ya say Sweet Cheeks? Care to come with me?"
"She'd rather not," Wally said, stepping in between the two of them.
Artemis smiled as she continued to look straight ahead, knowing what was going to happen. The man pushed himself off the wall and was about to punch Wally for denying him some game, but Wally grabbed his fist and twisted it behind his back. He pushed the man away and he fell to the ground with a grunt. Wally grabbed Artemis's hand and they walked away, not wanting to speak another word to this piece of trash.
"You didn't have to do that."
"You didn't look like you were going to do anything," he replied.
"Didn't need to; he could've talked all he wanted, but I was going to leave as soon as you got your food."
"Yeah well I saw you with him so I forgot the food to come help you. You're welcome," he said sarcastically.
"You want to hear your compliment now?"
"Sure."
"I love it when you help others, even when you don't need to. It's nice to know that even when you've got a situation under control, you still have someone beside you to either help you out, or encourage you."
"I guess it's my inner hero just coming out," he said casually. "I can't help but save a damsel in distress."
"Oh I don't know what I would do without you," she replied dramatically.
"You couldn't do anything without me! Without me, there is no love!" he exclaimed
"Is that so?" she questioned
Wally stopped to look her in the eyes. Her eyes had a mischievous glint in them that amused him. "It sure is," he replied.
With that, Wally felt the courage inside him burst and he leaned in. Artemis smiled and followed his lead until their lips connected. For Artemis, there truly was no love without her Wally. Not the kind of love she was craving anyway.
Even after the three weeks have gone by since the incident, not everything was normal. Sure, Conner still had anger issues and stormed out, Aqualad regained his confidence as leader and Robin continued on his trolling ways, but not everything settle back to their kind of 'normal'.
For instance, everyone knew basically everything about Wally. That was okay for he didn't mind it anymore; no more secrets. But at the same time, he was glad that his thoughts were still only his thoughts.
Then there's the fact that they're still doing therapy, but then again that is going to change quickly. Let's just say that there will be a lot of …. Absences when they occur.
However, the biggest change of all had to be Artemis and Wally. Who would've thought that after months of bickering with each other and putting one another down, that they would get together? And who would've thought that they were meant to be together? They both did, whether or not they realized it at first. Oh and Robin probably knew from the start as well, but he doesn't really count.
But who needs normal? They certainly aren't normal kids, so their lives should be just as abnormal. Normal is too boring for these young super heroes anyway. And they don't want boring, they want excitement. Actually they all want different things, but those things aren't normal. Conner wants monkies to become extinct. He wants his father to accept him. M'gann wants to become an Earth girl. She wants to always be happy. Kauldar wants peace between friends and allies. Kauldar wants a love that belongs to someone else. Zatanna wants her father back. She wants to make him proud. Robin wants to be his own person. He wants to be the best. Artemis wants to control her own future. She wants the love that she was told she could never have.
And Wally… all he wants right now is his Spitfire.
How was that? REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW!
