"Are you ready for your last day of middle school?" Lena asked Jude as he lay on his back ready to sleep.
"Yeah," Jude nodded, watching Lena carefully.
"What's wrong, Buddie, talk to me, please?" Lena asked when he turned towards the wall, "I'm sorry things have been so different lately. And I know you're worried. But we can't figure anything out unless you talk to me." Jude stayed silent, causing Lena to sigh, "I love you, I'll see you in the morning, alright?" Jude nodded in response.
"I love you, Momma. It's just been a long day," Jude said, turning towards her and hugging her.
"You sure? You know you can talk to me about anything, right? And if you would rather talk to Mom she is the same way, you can tell her anything," Lena said, kissing the side of his head.
"I know. I just want to go to bed."
"Alright, Son. Good night," Lena said as she turned off his bedside light as Jesus walked in. "All ready for tomorrow?" She asked Jesus.
"Yeah, night Mom," Jesus said, hugging Lena before getting into bed. Lena shut off his light before blowing one more kiss to her sons, shutting the door softly.
"Almost ready for bed, Miss. Thing?" Lena asked Mariana as she walked into her youngest daughter's bedroom. Mariana sat on her bed, texting away on her iphone. "Time to put that away."
Looking up, Mariana quickly sent out a text telling Zack good night before setting it in her bedside table drawer. "Yeah," she said as she pulled the covers out from under her and slid in them. Lena sat on the edge of the bed, running her fingers through Mariana's long, dark hair.
"You seem a lot better. Why didn't they start doing transfusions a long time ago?" Mariana asked.
"Because, Baby. It isn't a cure. It's just to help when my red blood count is really low. I'm up more because with more red blood cells oxygen is able to get to my body," Lena explained as she slid into bed next to Mariana, wrapping her arm around her daughter as she sat up on an elbow.
"Dialysis isn't a cure either," Mariana mumbled.
"You're right. But it does help do what my liver and kidneys aren't. And like you said, I'm doing better."
Mariana snuggled back against Lena's warmth, letting her mother spoon her like she always has when Mariana was upset. Lena watched her daughter fall asleep, soon finding herself in a troubling situation when she made the note that Mariana's bed didn't raise, so she wasn't able to get up by herself. Figuring Stef would come looking for her soon she closed her eyes and kissed the back of Mariana's head. She turned a couple minutes later when Mariana's door opened, "Babe I'm- Callie?" Lena asked when she saw Callie standing there in her own pajamas.
"Sorry I was just going to... I'm going to go to bed," Callie said, looking guiltily at the ground.
"Wait, CallieBug, do you mind helping me?" Lena asked, figuring if she was able to get up she could find out what was going on with her oldest child, "I umm, I can't really get up..."
"Oh, Yeah, sure!" Callie said a little too quickly, walking over and helping Lena into a sitting position before Lena sat up, grabbing onto Callie to make sure she didn't try and get away before she could talk to her.
"I'm putting all my children to bed, I don't care if tomorrow you'll be a graduate," She said as she stood and they made their way to Callie's bedroom. Once Callie was settled on her bed Lena sat down, thinking more this time she decided to stay propped up by the headboard as Callie quickly snuggled into her side, wrapping am arm around Lena's waist. "Did you need to talk to Mariana about something?" Lena asked softly, running her fingers through Callie's short curls.
"No," Callie said, closing her eyes and breathing deeply.
"What did you go in there for? I'm not mad, I promise. I just feel so out of the loop from all my babies," Lena said as she kissed the top of Callie's head. Callie stayed silent for a few minutes before answering,
"I always come in to check on her before I go to sleep. Sometimes I stay for just a minute or wait until she falls asleep, or sometimes we both sleep in there, like before I got my own room," Callie explained.
"You're a great sister, you know that," Lena said with tears in her eyes.
Callie shrugged, "It's just the right thing to do."
"And that's what makes you even more amazing, is that you don't have to think about it, you just do it," Lena said as she felt Callie starting to grow heavier against her. "Goodnight, Babygirl," She whispered, kissing her head one more time before disentangling herself from Callie and sitting up.
Lena made her way downstairs, and headed towards their makeshift bedroom as Stef finished the dishes, she forced herself not to look in the mirror as she put a black cami on and Stef's favorite royal purple panties on. Trying not to think about how she looked, she crawled in the bed. If she was being honest with herself she would go straight to bed, the dialysis, transfusion, and putting all the kids to bed had worn her out, but she also didn't know the next time she would even feel this good. Her joints didn't ache so badly, she didn't have a migraine, which she got a few times a week from her daily medication, and although she was tired she wasn't totally exhausted.
"How are the kids?" Stef asked as she pulled back the bed spread and slid in.
"Fine," Lena answered, pulling on Stef's arm so she would come to her, kissing her deeply. Stef smiled, situating herself so she was kneeling above Stef. Lena pulled Stef's shirt until she could get to some skin, running her hands across the small of Stef's back.
"Love, are you sur-" Stef was cut off by a sigh of frustration from Lena, "You're well enough."
"Stefanie!" Lena growled.
"Sorry, sorry," Stef said quickly, pulling her shirt over her head. She went to pull Lena's off when she saw Lena tense. "You want to leave this on?" Stef asked with a small smile. Lena nodded, thankful that Stef didn't make her ask. "Can I take these off?" Stef asked, playing with the band of the lacy panties. Lena nodded.
A half hour later Lena lay against Stef's chest, her legs in between Stef's parted one. Lena hummed contently, just coming down from her orgasm as Stef ran her hand over Lena's butt and down her thigh, every so often edging her fingers under the cami. "And you thought I would have problems finding sensitive spots now," Stef teased softly, kissing the spot under Lena's ear that had always made her melt.
"Mmmm," Lena murmured, too tired to speak or open her eyes.
"And you, my Love, I don't know how, but have gotten better," Stef smiled. Lena grunted in response. Stef laughed lightly, wrapping her arms around Lena's back and flipping them so Lena was laying on the bed.
"Hey!" Lena protested.
"I'm just going to go clean up, and them I'll snuggle you," Stef promised. Ten minutes later she walked back into the bedroom, shrugging off the long pajama shirt she wore since downstairs they didn't have an ensuite, and she didn't really want to explain to a child why she was walking to the bathroom naked. Taking a couple warm wash clothes she had brought from the bathroom she gently cleaned Lena up some, knowing Lena wouldn't be happy when she woke up if she didn't. Laying back in the bed she wrapped her arms around Lena, pulling her to where she could tuck Lena's head under her chin. Lena had woken a little with the minstrations "Thank you," she whispered softly, closing her eyes.
"We have two graduating babies tomorrow," Stef whispered. Lena smiled and nodded.
"When did that happen?" she asked rhetorically before falling into a deep sleep.
