Chapter 26

Taura POV

I followed Maria to a large cave under the cliffs. It was large, but hidden from mortal eyes. Her blue eyes shone in the dark like miniature lanterns. She lit a fire in the middle of the floor. "Now, Taura-sama, find a way to focus your power."

I decided to start by looking around me. The walls were slimy with moss and every place seemed moist. My magic won't hold there. I glanced at the fire again. I closed my eyes, pulling at my magic. I opened my eyes and felt the purple glow at my chest. I spread my arms out and embraced the light. The light flowed through my arms and settled at my fingertips, the light sparkling there. I looked at Maria. She was smiling softly at the purple light that was curling at my fingers.

"Good job, Taura-sama, you did great for your first try." Maria praised. "Now try again. Try to perfect it."

After a few times, I could collect a ball of purple light in my hands and hold it for an extremely long time. I dispersed the ball and the purple energy was sucked into my body. I felt the energy collect and settled in the heart of my body. I looked up at Maria. Maria was smiling slightly. I cocked my head. "What are you smiling about?"

Maria turned her head. "I-It's nothing." She waved her hands in front of herself. "I'm just thinking." She turned away and whispered to herself. "She resembles Gaito a lot." I smiled inwardly at what she said. I waited for her to collect herself again. Maria took in a deep breath and faced me again. "Now I am going to teach you a new method."

I was excited. "What do I need to do?"

"Oh, what I taught you early is all you need. The rest, I believe you have the ability to do by yourself."

"What am I going to do?"

"Oh, that…" Maria tapped her chin. "You are going to make a nightmare."

A chilling silence was the result of her words. I was deciding if what she said was a joke or if it was true. If I am going to make a nightmare, I only need the forming of purple light? That's it? I have a feeling it is going to be more complicated than that. Wait; does she want me to figure it out? "Um, Maria, do you want me to figure some of this out on my own? Is it because you can't do it yourself?" Maria's eyes told me all I needed to know. "I see." I sat down on the cavern floor, thinking.

"Okay, now I will teach you how to start and the rest is yours to figure out." Maria smiled. "Now picture the vast purple energy inside of you. Close your eyes and think of the person you want to connect to. The rest is yours to decide."

I closed my eyes and slipped slowly from the living world into my subconscious.

Subconscious

I opened my eyes (subconsciously). I saw a field covered with white flowers. In the middle of the field was a ball of purple light. I beckoned it to me with my hand and it landed in my hand. I tossed it up and it landed, creating a hole. I stared at the hole and a table filled its place. A tea set was floating on the table. Then a woman appeared. She had orange eyes and orange hair. The woman was wearing a long white dress with a black sash. She titled her head and said: "Hello, Taura."

I studied her carefully. "You are my mother, right?"

"Correct. Keen as always, just like Gaito, hmm…"

"What are you doing here?"

"Straight to the point, eh, all right, I will tell you. I am going to help you."

"You are?"

"Of course, Maria is not much help, you know. She does not specialize in dreams. I brought someone who does." She turned towards an empty space and said: "Come out now, Yuri."

A girl with lime green hair and a long red dress came out, her eyes staring at me. I gasped, recognizing her from the dream. "You are that girl from the dream."

Yuri smiled. "Of course, I specialize in the art of nightmares. I've done it before. Gaito is the best, but I am the best teacher. Now, shall we start?"

I nodded. Yuri began to speak. "Now, like Maria said, you need to figure it out by yourself. I am here to guide you."

"I understand."

Yuri nodded and said: "Imagine the person's face." I imagined Ron's face and I felt anger pop up. I banished the image from my brain.

"I can't hold it."

"Take a deep breath in."

I took a breath in and imagined his face and I saw Ron appear in front of me. He was dressed in a jersey and looking at me.

I glanced at Yuri and she nodded. I smiled and turned to glare Ron. Ron was gawking at me and desperately pinching himself, looking scared.

I held out my hand and a ball of light appeared in my hand. I imagined spikes and long silver spikes appeared all around it. I smiled darkly and cackling, I threw the ball onto Ron. His screams of pain were like music to my ears.

The torture began. Blood spewed from the wounds from the spikes. His gasps and breaths went in and out, scared. I cut his arms here and there, watching as the red blood oozed onto the floor as it was clotting.

I let out a last laugh when he vanished from sight.

I woke up and saw Maria standing there. "Was it successful?"

I smiled darkly. "Yep, I managed to preserve myself. Boy, that felt good, almost refreshing. Should I do it again?"

Maria smiled. "As much as I'm sure you will like to, you need a rest. This is, after all, your first time. You must not overtax yourself on what you are doing."

"Alright, I will wait." I got up.

"I have prepared you some supper and a bath. You need to regain some energy." Maria smiled gently and ran off.

"Hey, wait for me." I ran after her.

Under the sea

Normal POV

"Don't you think the bloodshed was a little too much?" Sara opened her eyes and glanced at Gaito, worried. "I am scared what too much bloodshed will do. You went almost crazy with it, you know."

"Don't worry, dear." Gaito smiled at Sara. "Taura will be able to control herself."

"What if you can't?" Sara's hysterical voice rang out.

Gaito wound a comforting arm around Sara and said: "If she can't, she is in good hands. I trust Maria will take care of her. You have surely noticed that Maria has taken a liking towards our girl."

"I hope so. I kind of want our Taura to be like you to protect her. But if she is all you, I am scared she will go mad."

"Are you saying my genes are bad?"

"No."

Gaito smirked and walked away. "Whatever, you say, Sara."

"Hey, that is not what I meant."

"Sure."

"Hey!"

I will try to make it up to you.
